Anything/time left in VOIS?
Brand new here, so please excuse the buttin' in. You might want to look at VOIS as a play for Monday, depending where it ends up today. News ran it up extremely fast to .02, tons of volumn, but looks like some may be stuck with their .02, and looking to get out.
Just my 2 cents, and probably worth less that that!
Naw, just got back in country, and was looking up some familiar faces, and found yours here. What are you folks playing here, if ya don't mind me asking?
Hi Sidney.
BHS I'm thinking SLW will piggy back right along with these. any thoughts?
News: Laying off 150.....
http://www.charlestonbusiness.com/news/25913-force-protection-shrinking-work-force-by-150
More Good news, in a slightly round-a-bout way. Be sure to read entire article!
Shares of Force Protection, Inc. (FRPT: View sentiment for FRPTsentiment, chart, options) have dropped about 5% so far today, after the security was targeted by some negative analyst activity. Stanford Research reiterated its "hold" rating on the firm, but cut its target price to $3 per share from $4 per share. The stock is thinly covered by Wall Street analysts, with only 4 brokerage firms currently offering an opinion on the shares, according to Zacks. Of those firms, 3 rate FRPT a "buy" or better, while 1 designates the equity a "hold."
Digging a bit deeper, we find that the average 12-month price target for FRPT actually rests at $4.83 per share - a 10.5% discount to the stock's Wednesday close. This configuration could be bullish for the stock, as additional coverage from analysts or price target upgrades could provide additional buying pressure for the equity.
For the record, Force Protection designs, manufactures, and distributes mine-protected vehicles. The company's products combine innovative designs with power, safety, handling, and stability to create vehicles designed to protect and save lives. Force Protection made headlines on November 13 when it received 2 new orders for its Buffalo A2 vehicles, valued at a combined $34.1 million, from the U.S. Army and the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense.
Technically Speaking
From a technical perspective, FRPT's price action has been impressive in recent months. The stock has outperformed the S&P 500 Index (SPX) on a relative strength basis by 158% during the past 60 trading days. Furthermore, the shares have soared more than 200% since setting a near-term bottom of $1.70 per share on October 24. During this time frame, FRPT has enjoyed the support of its 10-day and 20-day moving averages. While the shares have since outpaced these short-term trendlines, they have bested formerly staunch resistance at the 5 level. FRPT has not closed a week above $5 per share since mid-December 2007, and a finish above this area by Friday's close could be a bullish signal for the shares.
Daily chart of Baidu.com since August 2008 with 10-day and 20-day moving averages
On the sentiment front, options traders are betting on continued outperformance by FRPT. The stock's Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) of 0.17 indicates that calls more than quintuple puts among options with less than 3 months until expiration. This ratio also ranks below 81% of all those taken during the past year, underscoring the degree of optimism levied against the equity. Given the stock's price action since mid-October, some of this bullish sentiment seems warranted, but contrarians should keep an eye on support at the 5 level, as a breach of this area could spook some of the weaker FRPT hands into taking profits.
Checking in with the short-selling community, it would seem that the bears are headed for the exits following the stock's recent technical strength. During the most recent reporting period, the number of FRPT shares sold short dropped by more than 7%. However, more than 3.6% of the security's float remains sold short, indicating that there is room for this short-covering trend to run.
In conclusion, FRPT looks sharp from a technical perspective, and if the shares can maintain their perch above the 5 level, we could see the stock extend its trek higher. Traders should keep a close eye on sentiment levels, as elevated investor expectations could spoil the security's strong performance on the slightest negative news or bearish brokerage note. For the time being, however, the trend is FRPT's friend.
