Matt Bryant’s infant son dies
15 hours, 20 minutes ago
Buzz Up PrintTAMPA, Fla. (AP)—Matthew Tryson Bryant, the 3-month-old son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant, died Wednesday.
“I don’t have a lot of details,” coach Jon Gruden said after practice. “It’s just a horrible tragedy, and I can’t explain it.”
Bryant, a seventh-year pro in his fourth season with Tampa Bay, kicked a winning field goal in overtime against Chicago last Sunday. Two years ago, he made the third-longest field goal in NFL history, a 62-yarder to beat Philadelphia.
“The entire Buccaneer family is deeply saddened by this tragedy,” general manager Bruce Allen said in a team statement.
“The Bryants have been an inspiration to our entire community through their commitment to their family and their exhaustive efforts working with children and those in need in the Bay area. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt and Melissa during this difficult time.”

NASA delays Hubble mission by 5 days, Ike blamed By MARCIA DUNN, AP Aerospace Writer
1 hour, 2 minutes ago
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA is delaying next month's shuttle launch to the Hubble Space Telescope because of problems stemming from Hurricane Ike and replacement parts for the observatory.
Space shuttle Atlantis is now set to blast off late at night on Oct. 14 for the last visit to the orbiting telescope, officials said Wednesday. Liftoff had been scheduled for the wee hours of Oct. 10, technically making this a five-day postponement.
Senior managers will reassess the launch date next week.
Atlantis' seven astronauts, who wrapped up a practice countdown at the launching site Wednesday, lost a week of training because of Hurricane Ike. The hurricane shut down the Johnson Space Center in Houston, which did not reopen until this week.
Payload problems also contributed to the delay. Last week, NASA had trouble with the insulation on replacement batteries for Hubble and, over the weekend, encountered snags loading the equipment at the launch pad.
The delay also pushes back the launch of Endeavour's space station mission to Nov. 16. Endeavour will serve as the rescue ship for Atlantis, if needed. It is the first time that NASA has ever had a space shuttle on the launch pad, ready to blast off as a rescue ship if there is an emergency.
Tropical storms Fay and Hanna, which held up work at the launch site, prompted NASA earlier this month to put off the Hubble flight by two days. The original launch date was Oct. 8.

Flash Lite on Android( HTC Google Mobile)
Posted on September 24, 2008 by Nihal
T-Mobile unveiled yesterday G1 - the first phone ever to be powered by the new Google mobile operating system Android. This new mobile OS by Google is a threat to other mobile OSes such as Symbian, Windows Mobile, and even the iPhone as it is backed by the Open Handset Alliance (Includes HTC, Motorola, Samsun, LG, T-Mobile, and others), it is almost fully open source, it is integrated with many of the Google apps and services such as Gmail, Calendar, and Maps, and it features an online application store.
The question raised by many Flash developers is “what about Flash Lite?”. The Android SDK is available for anyone to develop applications for it for free, there are no restrictions whatsoever on what kind of application you can develop, and anyone can install any application they wish - This is unlike the iPhone SDK which prohibit developing any ‘runtime’ and applications can only be installed through iTunes.
Bill Parry, a developer at Adobe, made a post on his blog saying that Adobe is “closely working” with Android licensees and that in the future “Android based devices will ship with Adobe Flash support”. Bill also says that the movement of Flash into more mobile devices is part of Adobe’s Open Screen Project.
This is surely good news for Flash Lite developers, especially as no signs can be seen for releasing Flash Lite on the iPhone even after the recent release of second version of the OS and even though reports were published three months ago about Adobe successfully running Flash Lite on the iPhone through emulation.
Flash Lite is currently available on Symbian and Windows Mobile, and according to Adobe it is available on 800 million devices shipped worldwide.
As a heavy user of various Google apps, I am very excited about Android, and the inevitable release of Flash on it will surely improve the chances of me getting an Android powered phone in the near future.

Section 1: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others
You have a sensible and realistic outlook on life and your
two feet are always planted firmly on the ground (though you may,
on occasion, have your head in the clouds). Others often see you
as a rock of strength, solid, reliable, dependable, and constant.
You are, in fact, amazingly consistent for you possess great
powers of endurance and do not like to make changes or
adjustments in your regular routine. You do things deliberately
and methodically and do not easily accommodate the unexpected.
Though you have a gentle, even soft, appearance, you are
enormously strong-willed and stubborn. You go at your own pace
and refuse to be rushed or pushed into anything before you feel
sure about it. You can be coaxed and persuaded by charm, beauty,
love, or affection - but never forced. You won't fight either,
but simply stubbornly resist any attempt to coerce you to do
something you do not want to do.

Section 2: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation
You are, in many ways, an eternal child. Your mind is bright,
alert, curious, flexible, playful, and always eager for new
experiences - and your attention span is often quite brief. You
grasp ideas quickly and once your initial curiosity has been
satisfied, you want to go on to something else. You crave
frequent change, variety, meeting new situations and people.

Carpe diem is a phrase from a Latin poem by Horace (See "Source" section below). It is popularly translated as "seize the day". The general definition of carpe is "pick, pluck, pluck off, gather" as in plucking or picking a rose or apple, although Horace uses the word in the sense of "enjoy, make use of, seize."[1]

[edit] Meaning of the phrase
One interpretation of the phrase might be as an existential cautionary term, much like "eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die," with emphasis on making the most of current opportunities because life is short and time is fleeting. It has some connections with another Latin phrase, Memento mori.
[edit] Related expressions
Evoking some of the same meaning is the expression, "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die," which derives from Biblical verses (such as Isaiah, although it does not carry the same connotations in context. 22:13), and which occurs many times in modern English-language popular culture.
The phrase non-collige virgo rosas ("gather, girl, the roses") appears at the end of the poem De rosis nascentibus[2] (also called Idyllium de rosis) attributed to Ausonius or Virgil. It encourages youth to enjoy life before it's too late.
Related but distinct is the expression memento mori ("remember that you are mortal"); indeed, memento mori is often used with some of the sense of carpe diem. However, two major elements of memento mori are humility and repentance, neither of which figures prominently in the concept of carpe diem.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Siduri attempts to dissuade Gilgamesh in his quest for immortality, urging him to enjoy life as it is: "As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man."
In the Ecclesiastes (9,7-9):
7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Horace himself parodies the phrase in another of his poems, 'The town mouse and the country mouse'. He uses the phrase carpe viam meaning 'seize the road' to compare the two different attitudes to life of a person (or in this case, a mouse) living in a city and in the countryside.
[edit] Influence in Culture
Main article: Western canon
Horace's influence is widespread in western culture as the Greek and Roman "Classics" were part of the everyday pedagogy of prep schools, many universities and colleges, until they gradually began to decline in emphasis and university influence during the early twentieth century, when institutions of learning had to cope with the plethora of new subjects generated by advances in industry, the sciences, and research in the humanities. Latin and Greek language instruction, which were for centuries core fundamentals universally taught, which practices fell to the wayside save for the science naming needs of science and medicine, and so too did studies in the Classics, which became the narrow specialty field now usually known as Classical studies.
[edit] In literature
In Darkly Dreaming Dexter the title character Dexter mistakenly translates carpe diem as meaning complain in daylight.
This idea was popular among 16th and 17th-century poets. French poet Pierre de Ronsard for example, who wrote Cueillez dès aujourd'hui les roses de la vie (Sonnets pour Hélène, 1578), or Robert Herrick, whose To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time begins with "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may".[3]
This theme is also recalled in the verses of English Victorian poet Tennyson, and in Andrew Marvell's famous To His Coy Mistress.
The 'O mistress mine' song sung by the clown in Act II, Scene iii of William Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night has been referred to as having the spirit of carpe diem in it because of the line 'Youth's a stuff will not endure', amongst others.
In Shakespeare's Hamlet (act V scene ii), Hamlet observes that "There's a divinity that shapes our ends," and says a few words about how fate is inescapable. He concludes that "the readiness is all." In other words, a person should act now, or seize the moment, whether it seems favorable or not. As Horace says, we should not subject ourselves to augury.
Carpe diem is also used to denote the theme of Christopher Marlowe's The Passionate Shepherd to His Love.
Saul Bellow's novella Seize the Day deals with this idea of living for the moment vs. worrying about the future.
The phrase inspired the title of Terry Pratchett's 1998 book Carpe Jugulum.
The poem, To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell is another example of Romantic carpe diem poetry.
Title of a story by Argentinian writer Abelardo Castillo in the volume "Las maquinarias de la noche" (1992).
Robert Frost wrote a poem entitled "Carpe Diem" considering but ultimately rejecting the idea.
The title of the Dean Koontz novel Seize the Night is derived from the phrase.
In the book "Herman Herraidersonns Big Adventure" the main character's sidekick "Action Jackson" uses Carpe Diem as his catchphrase. The word appears a total of 12 times throughout the 30 page book for children.
In the book "Wise Children" by post-modernist Angela Carter carpe diem is a widely repeated moral of the protagonists Dora and Nora and their Grandmother. It also means It also means "Seize The Day".
[edit] In movies
"Carpe diem! Seize the day, boys! Make your lives extraordinary!" was used in the hit movie Dead Poets Society, a film that explores the idea of carpe diem from the viewpoint of a classroom of young men at an all-boys boarding school. Starring Robin Williams - Released in 1989 [USA]
The phrase also appears, albeit less prominently, in a number of other movies, such as Clueless, Torque, Waiting..., Newsies, and Out Cold.
In the 2003 Oscar winning short film Harvie Krumpet, Harvie, struggling against a series of unfortunate events, feels compelled to change his life after encountering the words beneath a statue of Horace.
In the movie Roxanne, Steve Martin elaborates on the phrase.
One of the gang members from the movie Death Sentence has a tattoo on his neck that says Carpe Diem.
In "The Ron Clark Story" Carpe Diem is one of Ron Clarks essential 55 rules for success in school.
In the movie "Out Cold," Pigpen says, "Carpe Diem... seize the carp"
[edit] In music
A number of songs are titled "Carpe Diem", including songs by Freya, Quo Vadis, Mostly Autumn, Alex Sandford, The Fugs, Metallica, Dream Theater, Ayreon, Nebula, Aesop Rock, Authority Zero, The Speaks, Bigod 20, Nena, Will Haven, YeLLOW Generation, The Nerve Agents, Elena Paparizou, MC Solaar, Martyr (Canada), Jehst, Jin Au-Yeung, Aldebert (France), Andy Timmons and Rodrigo Leão. Other songs include the phrase in their titles, such as Metallica's "Carpe Diem Baby". The phrase is also the title of some albums, such as one by Lara Fabian and also Baltimore/NY emcee Profound.
Likewise, a number of songs are titled "Seize the Day", including songs by Demons & Wizards, Avenged Sevenfold, and Carolyn Arends, or include the phrase in their lyrics. Indeed, many songs include both "carpe diem" and "seize the day" in their lyrics, such as "Anthem" by Zebrahead.
Part III of A Change of Seasons from the album of the same name by the progressive rock band Dream Theater is titled Carpe Diem.
Will Haven's 3rd album was entitled Carpe Diem.

Sun Microsystems Announces Internet Availability of Annual Stockholders' Meeting Proxy Materials for Fiscal Year 2008
Wednesday September 24, 6:50 pm ET
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAVA - News) today announced the Internet availability of proxy materials for its 2008 Annual Meeting of Stockholders under the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Notice and Access rule. Sun's proxy materials can now be found on the Company's investor relations website at http://www.sun.com/investors.
As an alternative to the traditional approach of delivering a printed set of proxy materials to each stockholder, companies may now deliver a “Notice of Internet Availability of Proxy Materials” to stockholders, provide Internet access to the proxy materials, and provide a printed set of proxy materials by mail upon request. In 2007, Sun was one of the first large accelerated filers (issuers having a market capitalization of $700 million or more) to adopt the rule. Since adopting the rule, Sun was able to reduce the number of printed copies of its proxy materials by nearly 95 percent as compared to the number of proxy materials printed in 2006 – lowering both the cost and the environmental impact of producing and delivering these materials to its stockholders.
Sun's 2008 annual report on Form 10-K and proxy statement have been filed with the SEC, and may be viewed on Sun's website at http://www.sun.com/investors. Sun's stockholders may obtain printed copies of Sun's proxy materials free of charge by following the instructions provided on the company's website or in the “Notice of Internet Availability of Proxy Materials.”
The Sun Microsystems 2008 Annual Meeting of Stockholders will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. (PST) at Sun's Santa Clara Campus, located at 4030 George Sellon Circle, Santa Clara, California 95054.
