It matters not whether the Israeli/palestinian peace talks are face to face, brokered by a third party, or done by e-mail.
The simple, undeniable fact is that the arab/islamic/palestinian side does not want peace, or better stated, will never accept peace on any terms as long as Israel is still a state and Jews are still in the middle east.
The total elimination of Israel and the Jews is their goal, and nothing less is acceptable to them.

This is the way I see the "ground zero mosque controversy:
The islamics have a legal and constitutional right to build the mosque wherever zoning permits it. It is on private property, so the legality is not in question.
But...
A very large majority of Americans are against building a mosque so close to "ground zero" and consider it an "in your face" insult to the memory of those killed on 9/11.
Regardless of his reasons for doing so, obama was very foolish to come out in favor of building the mosque there -- his support will be used against both him and democrats in general in the future.
Just as the muslims have a legal and constitutional right to build the mosque, other Americans have a First Amendment right to oppose it and do what they can legally to block it from being built.
Most importantly, construction workers have a right to refuse to build it.
So, I guess obama's next step will be to set up a bankruptcy proceeding for states like California so he can give those states to the unions just like he did with gm and chrysler.
The blue collar union guys and gals in NYC should refuse to build that mosque there!
I am pretty comfortable this will be the case. While the national union leadership is very liberal (marxist is a better word), the local unions in NYC are controlled by the mob, not by the marxist national union leaders. Also, the rank and file union workers are much more conservative and patriotic, and I believe they will rebel and will refuse the build the mosque.

The real news was in the revisions to the monthly employment numbers. Somehow <gg> they managed to "understate" the loss in non-farm payroll by almost 100,000 lost jobs.
They are playing with the numbers by reporting inflated figures, then revising to more accurate numbers when it is old news so nobody cares.

The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for May was revised from +433,000 to +432,000, and the change for June was revised from -125,000 to -221,000.
In June, they only missed by 100% -- but that's just a rounding error, right??

For publicly traded companies, I think it is unconscionable for the top executives to rape the company (i.e. the stockholders) for tens of millions of dollars while paying as little as possible to their employees and decreasing shareholder value. I never thought I would say this, but I think congress should enact a tax on the top executives of publicly held companies, imposing a rate of 98% on all annual earnings over $5 million (arbitrary figure, pick a number). The money saved would go to increased corporate earnings and thus the shareholders would receive the benefit and hopefully some of it would go to the employees who did the hard work.

The Bible tells us that what are commonly known today as "the Jews" are the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob (also known as Israel). Through the unilateral Covenant that God made with Abraham, God revealed that He had chosen the descendants of Israel to be a unique people, called to be His own, and to be given special blessings, privileges, and responsibilities. He declared numerous times that Israel would remain a distinct and blessed people before Him for all time.
It is out of respect for that declaration of God's choice and purpose that fundamentalist Christians maintain a special place of high regard for the Jews. It has nothing to do with eschatology (the study of Biblical Prophesy of the End Times).

As for Ben Gurion's quote, when accurately quoted and placed into historical context, there is nothing wrong with what he said.
The Hebrew word "goy" means "nation" and the plural of goy is "goyim" - (nations). Since the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob were the nation of Israel, "goyim" came to mean all the nations other than Israel.
So the accurate translation of his quote is:
"Who cares what the non-Jewish nations say? What matters is what the Jews do."
Given what the Jews were going through in that stage of the establishment of the Jewish homeland, it is a very reasonable and valid statement of fact. If the Jews faltered in their pursuit of their goals, all hope of a Jewish state would be in vain.

The country is far more polarized than at any time in my memory -- probably more so than at any time since the civil war. I have begun to wonder if ordinary Americans will not begin to speak of impeachment, but to date they have not seriously proposed it to any degree.
Impeachment is a fearful word that should be used sparingly, and when speaking of the President of the United States it is a process that should be avoided except in the most extreme case of conduct detrimental to the survival of our nation. As morally reprehensible as he was, the move to impeach clinton was politically motivated and we are fortunate that he was not convicted and removed from office.
In obama's case though, I personally believe that it would be appropriate to consider impeachment if conservatives can capture both houses of Congress in the next election. I am not sure which would do more damage to our country -- to leave him in office for another two years or to remove him.
