Oil Majors To Meet Iraqis Thursday To Discuss Tech Pacts-Official
By Hassan Hafidh
Amman, 23 January 2008 (Dow Jones)
An Iraqi Oil Ministry delegation will meet in Amman later this week with senior executives from five oil majors to discuss the possibility of signing technical support agreements to help develop five oil fields, an Iraqi oil ministry spokesman said Tuesday.
"A delegation from the Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Directorate will be in Amman later this week to meet with five well-known international companies," Assem Jihad told Dow Jones Newswires in a telephone interview from Baghdad.
Jihad didn't name these companies but a former Iraqi senior oil official who is still close to the oil ministry said they were BP PLC (BP), Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB), ExxonMobil Corp. (XOM), Chevron Corp. (CVX), and Total SA (TOT).
Jihad said the Amman meetings would be the second round of talks Iraq is holding with these companies. The first was held in December last year, he said.
"If they reach conclusions they could sign technical agreements if not they would meet again in a third round," the official said.
These new agreements would help increase production in five producing oil fields which could include Rumeila and Missan in the south, Kirkuk in the north and East Baghdad in the center, Iraqi oil officials had said before.
These technical support agreements could be the first step before awarding service contracts to these companies to develop oil fields, the Iraqi officials said.

Gulf to revalue currencies by April
Gulf Arab oil producers could revalue their currencies together if the US dollar weakens further, with appreciations of 8% in the UAE dirham and Saudi riyal likely before April, Standard Chartered said on Wednesday.
Markets piled pressure on Gulf currencies last year as speculation mounted that more GCC countries would follow Kuwait and abandon links to the weak dollar partly to curb imported inflation. Kuwait ditched the peg in May.
"It seems likely that GCC countries will maintain their dollar pegs," Standard Chartered said in a note on Wednesday. "However, if we see further dollar weakness against the majors a coordinated revaluation by the GCC is possible," it said.

No more than you can show me a country that has lopped without one.Furthermore what benefit would a lop do? ....nothing.
Also Iraq has no astronomical inflation that demands a lop,
the currency is held at a program rate.
Found a post on IIF by emile who brought up a great point;
Iraq cannot "lop" without a Currency Board which it does not have.
Here's a link for some great reading.....

thats what I fail to understand, why sellout? it's not like the dinar is losing value...sheesh
just seems to me anyone pushing the "lop" theory is either trying to get people into the isx, warka or plain disgruntled people that have already sold out.
WOW...haven't heard that name in a while.....he does write like him.
yep...seen that, if they release 25 dinar note(without outright exchange for the 25k note) it would effectively put all the "lop" talk to rest.
I'm still positive about no lop, see no benefits for it.
From Stockings previous post 244"Another step is the removal of the three zeroes to become the exchange rate of one dinar against the dollar"
Whats so difficult to understand? zeros dropped from the rate not the bills....
