Google released Android 4.4.3 KitKat on Monday, an update to the mobile operating system that consists mostly of bug fixes and minor tweaks. The update is rolling out across the company’s line of Nexus devices, including the Nexus 5 smartphone and Nexus 7 tablet.
Among a number of bug fixes and design changes, the biggest update introduced by Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) in Android 4.4.3 (KTU84L) is a redesigned Dialer app, used to make phone calls and access contacts. With Dialer version 1.1, Android users still view their most “favorite” contacts -- those whom they contact the most often -- but in Android 4.4.3, they can rearrange their favorites and access all of their information directly from the app.
The blue telephone icon still loads the Dialer app in Android 4.4.3, but users can customize their favorite contact cards by pressing and holding, what is known as a long press, to rearrange their position in the app. The three dots that appear throughout Android, called an overflow button, now appear on contact cards as well, allowing users to access more information, including phone number, email address and the option to send a text message.
Google has also been criticized by some users for breaking more than it fixes in Android 4.4.3. A number of users are reporting issues with data connections and notification lights with the latest KitKat update.
Google also fixed a number of Bluetooth issues in Android with version 4.4.3, sometimes caused by connecting to wearables like smartwatches and other devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. The playback of lossless (.FLAC) audio files was improved, as well as certain errors that could cause the operating system to reboot. A comprehensive list of the changes Google made with Android 4.4.3 KitKat, known as a changelog, is available online.
The LG Nexus 5 smartphone will be one of the first devices to receive the update, which is expected to roll out for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 tablet in the next week. The device previously had issues with audio quality during phone calls and GPS navigation, but it is not immediately clear from the changelog if those problems were rectified in Android 4.4.3.
I wonder what will happen to the PPS when the public is told that the NP-1 has been approved for the google kit kat update & shipping will commence within a week. Hmmmm. Any thoughts you guys have is appreciated.

Europe Reins in Google
The Android KitKat 4.4.3 update did not come for the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 as was rumored.
A rumor cropped up that the update, which users have been waiting months for, would finally come on May 22.
But the rumors, which appeared to originate from the website Myce, turned out to be wrong.
Some of the other latest rumors about the update come from TKTechNews and Sam Mobile.
The former posted a photo of a settings window on a phone, saying: “Galaxy s5 active or prime?”
The latter shared, citing a source, that new software features are being tested for the upcoming Galaxy Note 4, including “Swipe to launch Motion Launcher”, “Aqua Capture”, “Multi Network for Booster”, and “Smart Fingerprint.”
The features “are currently being tested on the Galaxy S5 with Android 4.4.3 as a base,” it reported.
The update was also confirmed by Samsung late last week on a developers website, reported the blog Sammy Today.
“I belive that Samsung is the first OEM to confirm Android KitKat 4.4.3 in official publication. Yes, 4.4.3 is just around the corner ,” he said.
The update has also been confirmed by Google in the past, including in a leak in a change log into the Android Open Source Project, though it later pulled the references. Sprint also confirmed the update for Nexus 5 but was forced to postpone the scheduled release due to unknown reasons.
Motorola also confirmed the update in a teaser video for the new Moto E phone, referring to it as the current version of Android.
Google said that the update will include the following enhancements for Android users: support for new Google spreadsheets, support for Android 4.4.3 and non-Nexus tablets, and minor UI updates and bug fixes.
The update is rumored to be included in the HTC One M8 and M7 sometime this month, June, or July.

So far there has been little sign of the eagerly anticipated Android 4.4.3 KitKat update, the latest rumors are claiming that the update could be rolled out before the end of the month. According to rumors, the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will be the first to receive the update.

An earlier leak had claimed that the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 would also receive Android 4.4.3 KitKat at the end of this month, but those claims did not specify any details whatsoever as to an exact date.
Android users are desperate for the update to be rolled out, as the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update will fix numerous problems that have been faced by users since the OS was launched in November.
According to reports the update will fix over three dozen bugs currently plaguing the Android OS, and it is expected that the upcoming update will deal with random reboots, unstable data connections, VPN fixes, missed calls, LED problems and more.
The Android 4.4.3 KitKat will also be available for most of Samsung's top smartphones that are currently running on Android 4.2.2 including the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3 among others.
Some reports have claimed that many of those devices will skip the Android 4.4.2 and upgrade straight to the 4.4.3.
The Android version will also be released to devices such as Motorola Moto G, Moto E, LG G Pad 8.3 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
However, with the Android 4.4.3 KitKat release date still not officially confirmed, the dates are still not certain, and users will have to keep an eye out for any further confirmation and specific news of a rollout from Google.
TGIF. NTEK loves Fridays.
Cheers
Very true. Read below. NP-1will release on e approved & PPS will take off.

KitKat has its fingers in 2% of Android devices
Android device manufacturers could soon be banned from launching their handsets on older versions of the operating system, Google has decreed in a purported leaked internal memo.
The memo, obtained by MobileBurn, expresses that all new handsets must run Android 4.4 KitKat if they want access to the Google Play Store and other Google Mobile Services like Gmail and YouTube.
"Starting February 2014, Google will no longer approve GMS distribution on new Android products that ship older platform releases," the memo states.
"Each platform release will have a 'GMS approval window' that typically closes nine months after the next Android platform release is publicly available."
Ever-present fragmentation
The reported move comes as the company looks to solve the ever-present problem of Android fragmentation, which has left the vast majority of users perennially stuck on older versions.
KitKat was designed especially to befit lower-end smartphones as well as those packing the latest and greatest spec sheets, but uptake remains slow.
According to stats released by Google earlier this month, KitKat has only made it onto 1.8 per cent of devices since its launch in November 2013, struggling to graduate beyond Google's own devcies.
Enforcing KitKat - and ensuing versions - is a must on new devices would certainly assist in the process as smartphone users grow tired of companies launching phones on older versions, promising updates that take eons to arrive.
