re Paul Otellini, on web cast, first I apologies for misspelling Mr. Otellini's name; I listened to the webcast
one more time it occurs at about slide26, hearing it again
it seems that motherboards available at the time for Pentium
4 will be able to accept Prescott. It appears Intel is listening to its OEM and motherboard customers as maintaining
socket compatibility was a recurrent theme, current Itanium2
systems will be able to upgrade to Madison which should obviously same the same socket. With this approach potential
customers will know that they could keep the same platform
for at least 3-5 years and benefit from performance enhancements
along the way, one of the excuses to delay upgraded is also removed.
As an aside during Q&A, CEO Craig R. Barrett made it clear
that AMD or any other competitor is taken seriously, he said
this in a very professional and respectful manner, in stark
Contrast to the former CEO of AMD whose remarks about competitors were often less the respectful.
