I was going to save my last post of the day for a lighthearted remark, but felt the need to respond to this post..... I spend a great amount of time in Panama, and the reference to people "begging at the Markets to sell a t-shirt or souvenier" just makes me wonder, am I missing something here?? (Esto no suena correcto) Perhaps!!
Until you (I mean anyone) actually lives with and/or among these people (I am not talking about South America as you mentioned) I am not qualified to do so, but I am talking about Central America (PANAMA) then you really do not qualify to talk about an issue like poverty.
Again, I am not speaking of South America. I have never been south of Panama, but I do understand alot about this country having travelled there, back and forth for about 10 years, (living for months at a time on each visit) and being amoung the people there.
Yes many people are poor. I am around some very poor people, where I stay. I can, however, walk freely through the large town (or city if you will) of La Chorrera and never have people trying to molest me by selling me merchandise I don't want. I walk back and forth from the Super Store La Xtra at night, and don't worry about being attacked, as the streets are newly paved, bright lights are on all streets, although I take necessary precautions like a person normally would anywhere. I have had the same experiences in other parts of Panama as well. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can happen anywhere. Just turn on the TV here, and you will see violence, poverty, etc, rampant.
And to know the people is to better understand them. By nature panamanian people are very expressive, so to more reserved people, one could be taken aback by the openness expressed. I can say this for Panama City as well. But let me tell you something, and you can research this or not if you like, I really don't care. Panama is rated as one of the most friendly places to visit/live on this planet. Yes there is povery, we have poverty here too.... But I guarantee that this nation (Panama) by July 2006 estimates of 3,191,319, have by far some of the nicest people you will ever find...... Ever go to their fiesta's?? Carnavale??? You won't find unhappy people there, and it is not a facade. They have social security, and the poor get free health care. Granted the hospials in the public hospitals are crowded, and sometimes are not staffed properly, but they get medicines, and healthcare for free...
As far as private hospitals are concerned, they have some of the highest standards for care you can find anywhere. And guess what, the prices being much more reasonable than the US, many people travel to Panama for hospital care, from other parts of the world, but from the US as well. Just do some DD on that and you will see.
Internet..... just on the street where I stay many have internet, and these are hardworking, poor people. You need to also factor in that Panama is not an expensive place to live, so everything is relative now isn't it. Also, you can walk into any internet cafe (mucho cafe's) pay 50 to 75 cents/hour, and bingo access the internet etc. I have accessed ST from these types of places many times. And you will find not rich people only, but many "poor" people as well as children using the internet cafe's. Access to internet throughout the country is everywhere... Just check into Cable And Wireless, Inter.net, Cable onda, just to name a few. There are many companies that provide internet service in Panama.
Please though, don't group all of these countries together like they are all one country. Panama is distinctly different, is in Central (as I know you are aware) not South America, and is the hub of banking for Central/South America. Incidentially, the Panama Canal in and of itself is an inducement to bringing in enormous wealth for this country, and they don't expect handouts... The don't need too.. They deal with their own problems, economic, social and political.
I guess there are times when you can find children right in our country begging for money. Happened to me in New York City....
When it comes to the very technical DD on Panamersa I will defer to the guys who spend countless hours providing information, what I for one don't really deserve to have shared with me, but that I certainly appreciate so I can make my own decisions. This type of DD is I feel better for the experts to explain... :)
Being my last post for today, as I have run out of posts, if you respond or attack my post or others do so negatively, it is unfortunate, as I will only be able to look at these posts as a bystander, and not be able to defend my position, but I would be more than pleased to respond in kind tomorrow.
I do appreciate your remarks that you made that you did not want to sound like a basher. It takes a big man to say something like that!!! :)
Have a good one Guys and I will enjoy reading the posts, as I finish this damn book I am typing. (not my book) LOL!!!
Don't you hate when that happens. Them Dammed Son's of.......... Well you get the picture!!!! LMAO.........
Well then I just might be your Guy. LOL.. On that note, I'm going to go grab a nice frosty PEEEEPSSSIII :)
Hola como estas?? Cuando descubriste eso??? LOL..... I just got in from afuera (outside)... My lawn is growing like crazy :( I guess I shouldn't mow 5 acres, maybe the front lawn would be enough... LOL... Need to catch up on the posts... Does MT have the ball game rolling yet?? HE WILL... Es un poco obvio para mi!!! ES VERDAD!!!
I wanted to say that but didn't know if I should... LOL.....
BINGO!!!
Nooooooooo Mommie I thought you said Duunnnnkin Donnnnnuts!!! I am soo confused.... That was tooooo funny Shankman!!! LOL :)

Now what are you really trying to say???? >) LOL....... Now back to DD......
If you click onto the news link in the website, and then Panamersa.net, it has an article about the theme park....
Thanks Mike. I own property in Llano Largo and in Churuquita Panama (circa Penonome):) but I will browse through that site now!!! Appreciate it.....
Hey Mike.... Love to shoot a round or two on the links!!! Are we allowed any Mulligans??? :( LOL.....
Great golfing down south of the border for sure.....
Midas... Some of those negative posters to you are just full off......... HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM HOT AIR... LOL>>>
Thanks for sharing all your DD guys. This guy for one (and I know there are many others) appreciates it!!!!!
Good Morning PNMS!! Bright sunny day.......... :)
Noticed I had 1 more post in my box tonight LOL Your post 72032 made me worried :( What are we ever to do about those starving poor people living in huts??? :) In the foreground of your first picture in that series I can almost make out the Puenta de las Americas bridge built by none other than the good ol' USA. Wait, if I strain my eyes a little more off to the right of the Puenta de las Americas, heading into the city, I can make out that poor Oil refinery with all it's poor Oil companies (representing different countries from around the world. :)
Another classic post for me is 72042. Just think, in that "poor" little town of La Chorrera, Mariano Rivera (we all know who he is right) was born and raised. Same area where I live for the winter, well nearby in Llano Largo...
And to cap off my third pic is this post. Brillant!!! Kudos for all the hard work and DD that has been put into by you guys (you know who you are)... Your TOPS!!! NOW COME ON UNCLE PEDRO LOL.......
And on that great post I will sign off for the evening....... Thanks for your insight!!! :)
Thanks, nice post...
"The King of All Pirates" Henry Morgan was there!! :) ARRRRRRRRRRR MATEY!!! There's gold in Panama, and I am not talking fools gold.. SHIVER ME TIMBERS!!!! But seriously, the pirate theme park will bring in much revenue......
Well I can't say much for the US either. Check the poverty rate here... :) And I am only talking about the reported statistics. Well, Panama has a growing economy. Check out how many Panamians emigrate from their country to here. They are proud people, and don't expect handouts...
Panama (Most Stable Central American Country) has legal systems in place for corruption just like the US. HUMMMMM Interesting post... LOL
Great Info. Thanks.... :)
Thanks Man...
Need to catch up on the posts. Stepped out for a bit..... :)
My friends have a property for sale in Boquete for 2 million (10 hectares, around 25 acres).... Would love to buy it, pricey for my blood but who knows. In 10 years to buy it will be out-of-sight......
Near Volcan. Love the area. Vocan still better value for your buck, but Boquete is muy bonita!!! :)
Thanks Man. You Guy are Cool. I think with my long previous post it's time for a nice frosty PEPSI!!! LOL....
Just like to say that when I signed up for my account with IHUB on June 15th, as I was making out my registration is says in one section to have fun. Well yesterday I got a little hot under the collar with some certain comments that were put out there. I won't mention names, don't need too as we all for the most part know what happened. Must be the Irish in my blood that gets to me at times!!
I really do feel for those who have had issues with the different stock companies in regards to the land divy in particular. I for one was not involved in this, and at first (if you read my first post, though not important) thought that perhaps we needed that medallion stamp affixed to our certs as well. I was thinking that this medallion stamp would be needed so I asked ST (local branch in Burlington,VT) about this first, and was rudely informed that they never do this, and don't know anything about it. Because of this confusion I decided to sign up on IHUB and ask the board for insight on this matter. Well, 4God steared me in the right direction on that one.
I am not a pumper or a basher. My Agenda is outlined in my first post. I am though very passionate about Panama, and it's good people. And it is my association with the prior that first caught my attention to Panamersa, as well as later from visiting Ihub only as a spectator, and reading the posts to see what more I could learn. Fine DD has been done by many many intelligent people on this board. Now I am not talking about DD as in Dunkin Donuts, but DD as in Due Diligence :) You know who you are who have painstakenly provided info for all of us to read. Just look though past posts it reads like a road map. Go to Texas if you can, or go see the offices of Panamersa in Panama City, Panama. If you cannot, then read all of the meaty posts with DD carefully. Then with all the information you have decide. Get on the Bus or not. To me it is as simple as that.
As far as MT is concerned. I think about what I would do if I were in his shoes. Yes being human is to err at times. So what, we all do, but, when I personally read of the problems that ones have been having with Ameritrade, or CT, or ST or whatever, then for a moment I think about what it must feel like being MT dealing with brokerage house(s), not allowing stock to be purchased, like we are children or something, ridiculous. If you (MT) can demonstrate that they (brokerage houses) have been stonewalling your attempts, ie., giving us the shareholders a runaround etc., just going in and asking for a medallion stamp for example that should be our right, then maybe it is a little payback when we as the shareholders get a little ticked off at these brokerage houses for not cooperating with our requests (in my opinion).
Also, although I am a young man yet :), I know if I had a child who did not respect the decisions I made, although he was too young to do so, but he expected everthing just when "he" wanted, even though I knew the best time for it, then maybe I would give the proverbial "copier doesn't work" reply, until such time as I saw fit to help him see the proverbial "forest" through the trees.
I did go to college for 4 years to study law (prelaw), did well at it, did not like it, and decided a different career move was in order. I am saying this because I mentioned yesterday in 1 post that I had studied law in the past....
At any rate, I want to personally apologize if I offended anyone by my posts yesterday. I have no problems with opinions (on topic of course), but statement of facts really need facts provided, no?? When it comes to a point where this is no fun anymore my posts will end :) !!!
To quote the great Rear Admiral David Farragut: "DAMN THE TORPEDOES, FULL STEAM AHEAD!!!!!! :)
Good Morning Panamersa!!! :)
Some like to believe fiction over fact. Well it makes for comical reading anyway. Must be one big conspiracy theory, BUT I for one strongly doubt that...... A third grader could read between the line of some of the rubbish thrown out today. Anyway, each to his own. Catch you on the flip side!!! :)
I second that Fenian!! Thank you...
I HAVE!! GOOD TRY!! LOL... Gread DD buddy. Thanks...NOT
Oh. So in other words, say whatever you like, don't think about what you say, and hey, maybe what you say "may" be true. Takes the DD out of the equation now doesn't it. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
Well said. Thank you. Could't have said it better.
Nice to see some are so objective. But we are right??
HE's got a great spot too!!! :)
4GOD. ON POINT MAN. Studied Law for several years and you know your stuff!!! Thanks...
GREAT POINT. Panama loves the US too, and copies it in many ways. Maybe it is for this reason that many from the US retire there!! UMMMMMMM
4God. True wisdom from a wise man!! Thanks for the perspective. You have to consider the source. In this case not much to consider LOL
Dffhog's said: "I guess if I go to Panama, they may make me vanish."
You really don't know anything about Panama now do you, and slander is good if it suits your purpose??? IGNORANCE MAN. I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU.
I would suggest doing DD on these what constitutes "libelous statements" You might change that statement you made.
