Analyst hikes price target on Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan on expected rise in potash prices
NEW YORK (AP) -- An analyst hiked his price target on Canadian fertilizer maker Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. on Thursday to $300, based on an expected rise in the price of potash, which is used for fertilizer.

RBC Capital Markets analyst Fai Lee's new price target, up from $250, implies upside of 51.3 percent to Wednesday's $198.26 closing price.
Lee said some in the industry think potash prices may hit $1,000 per metric ton by the end of this year.
Lee's new first-quarter profit estimate is $1.64 per share, from $1.32 previously, and analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect $1.50 per share.
Demand for potash has been driven by rising food consumption worldwide and rising demand for ethanol, which is made from corn.
Meanwhile, Potash on Wednesday said its joint-venture company inked a deal to sell potash to Sinofert Holdings Ltd., a Chinese fertilizer company, for $400 per ton higher than last year.
Shares of Potash declined $5.99, or 3 percent, to $192.25, but set an all-time high of $199.89 earlier in the session.

Saskatchewan potash producers more than double price of fertilizer exports to China
NEW YORK (AP) -- Saskatchewan potash producers have cut an export deal with China that calls for the price of fertilizer shipped during the rest of this year to more than double, one of the producers said Wednesday.

The contract between Canpotex Ltd., the export association of Saskatchewan potash producers, and China's Sinofert calls for shipment of 1 million metric tons of potash at $576 per metric ton -- a $400 per metric ton increase over the 2007 price, said Mosaic Co., a phosphate and potash fertilizer maker.
Besides Mosaic, Canpotex members include Agrium Inc. and Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. Potash owns a 20 percent stake in Sinofert
Shares of Canpotex members rose in premarket trading: Mosaic gained $3.40, or 2.7 percent, to $131, from their close Tuesday at $127.60; Agrium added $2.02, or 2.6 percent, to $80.98 from their Tuesday close at $78.96, and Potash rose $4.34, or 2.4 percent, to $188.75, from their close at $184.41.
