CBMX - CombiMatrix (bird flu testing play) up again today on good volume. I'm in big and holding.
March 7, 2006, at 11:22 a.m.
Here's another play. Risky, but potentially huge.
CBMX - CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics to Test for Influenza
Tuesday December 6, 7:00 am ET

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 2005--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:CBMX - News; Nasdaq:ACTG - News) announced today that its CombiMatrix group's wholly owned subsidiary, CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics (CMD), is now offering influenza testing services utilizing the CombiMatrix Influenza DNA-based microarray. TINY 13.79 down $1.01. Anyone like it here? eom
Out of PFE @ 26.03 for $5.04
Also sold GSIG (unannounced previous buy) @ 12.77 for pennies.

Disclosure - long PFE, MRGE, CBMX, net short big tech.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I'd love nothing more than a rotation out of tech and in to medical. I've also got a bunch of MRGE (healthcare), and tiny CBMX (bird flu/medical patents)
and I'm short a block of the QQQQ's ....
Also holding IWOV, SNWL, & GSIG as pet project/longer term recovery plays.
PFE - I smell gap fill to 23.50ish ! HPQ warns on revenue, was priced to perfection - I smell 200dma @ 25ish !
Disclosure - long PFE , short HPQ ..... (surprise!)
Got a second serving of PFE here @ 20.63.
Bot more MRGE. Now have 3 servings, average cost 25.07
IWOV trying for $10.00 !! Patience....
ACTG cratering. Lost a key patent case. The better play is CBMX (both companies are part of Acacia Research). Confusing press releases have led many to believe that the company's bird flu testing patent is part of ACTG. It is not. CBMX holds this patent, and many other medical licenses.
In MRGE @ 26.15 Revenues, earnings, margins, guidance... all looking good. Check this one out.
I'm in CBMX for the bird flu play, but I like ACTG too - more diversified patent holdings and great revenue growth over the last few quarters - but a bit too overbought right now for me. I'll wait for a pullback on ACTG, but I think CBMX is a "just buy it now" story.
RE: ACTG and CBMX (bird flu)
These are both Acacia Research companies - Acacia Technologies (ACTG) and CombiMatrix (CBMX). The bird flu testing technology is part of CBMX's business. It is my understanding that CBMX is the bird flu play, not ACTG.
In CBMX @ 1.87 - IN PLAY Briefing.com :
Identification of (H5N1) Bird Flu (CBMX) 1.82 :Co announces it is now offering influenza testing services utilizing the CombiMatrix Influenza DNA-based microarray. The array will enable genetic identification of the specific type of influenza including the bird flu as well as others. This influenza analysis may be run on animal as well as human samples for Research Use Only. At the current time, the influenza array is not an FDA approved product, nor will it be run in a CLIA - certified facility, as CMD is currently awaiting laboratory certification. Those interested in having samples tested will be provided specimen collection kits with appropriate instructions.
Now that's what I call putting your money where your mouth is! I'm with you. Currently short a buttload of QQQQ, will add if it goes any higher today, likely will also add USPIX or RYVNX if it closes green.
The Naz starts the day around 2195 with the QQQQ's around 40.92. Now the Naz makes its way up to 2205 while the QQQQ's are still hovering around 40.92.... (numbers not exact, but you get the idea)... Hmmm.
In PFE @ 21.32 eom
I'm hoping the covering/buying won't be enough to keep the price from easing back to the 50dma on the daily chart. It oughta be right at that little gap at 39.50 in a day or two...
QQQQ .50 miracle reversal - except this time it's downward off the high. Wonder if this is the start of a new pattern (or just the inverse of the old pattern). I'm short, so bring on $39.50
RYVNX closed at 19.46, a 52 wk lo. RSI(14)at 32. Tempting.
(For those not familiar, RYVNX is Rydex double short QQQQ fund)
Is that an IBM specific move, or a proxy on tech in general? Any other techs interest you on the dark side? Your thoughts appreciated.
Short QQQQ @ 40.67 Might have to double tomorrow, but
then again, for whom - bulls or bears - does the DELL toll..?
Dividends and buy backs? Hmmmm... not exactly the profile of a "growth" company. What's the appropriate PE for INTC now that they're a nice, safe widows and orphans investment? <g>
I've been watching that too! The 52 wk low is 19.87, could be taken out today. You thinking of pulling the trigger?
My eyes are starting to glaze over. Tried to follow your QQQQ short lead, but set my price too high and it never filled. Thinking of leaving it open at 40.33 in case the market ramps into the close on short-covering, but I'm having a hard time not being tempted to just call it a week and go enjoy this gorgeous Florida day.....
OT - Thanks for the link. (can't do private reply) Great memories. It's been awhile since I've seen one - I forgot how street-serious that car looked. Enjoy your "toy", I'm totally jealous!
Am I correct in discerning that you are currently long the SMH and short the QQQQ? If so, what are your targets?
OT - A friend of mine back in the early 70's had a yellow Pantera. We used to cruise around in it - man, that car was an attention-getter! :)
Not enough of a pullback for me. I'm not smart enough to "day-scalp". Now INTC, SMH and QQQQ are all running, and I gotta wait for an obvious opportunity. Leaning towards shorting SMH around 35.20 or maybe the QQQQ over 40.
OT - <<< Only other company I have more disdain for is Ford. >>>
I'm thinking that maybe there's a story behind your "Pantera" alias and Ford's involvement with your namesake supercar....
Out INTC @ 23.30 for .68. Bring on the pullback !!!
All right. You are Mr. RSI, so I will await your further insights. Thanks.
Can you calculate what price on SMH would put the RSI at 65?
<<< SMH thru 34.Bring on 34.40 >>>
I'm thinking anything over 34.20ish puts us in short term overbought territory. (With QQQQ hitting about 39.25). Also
thinking this ramp closes the gap (10day/hrly) on INTC at 23.42. I'm looking to sell my INTC at 23.36, then hopefully reposition lower.
In INTC 22.62 - Softie just yelled TIMBER - I'm feeling good.
<<< Anyone else have any experience with (DELL)?
Bought a new Dell laptop a year ago. Defective hard drive, but Dell insisted the problem was my fault because I must have let spyware and viruses infect my system. After countless time-wasting utilities and reinstalls - which only confirmed that I had NO malware on my computer, they finally admitted the obvious hard drive problem and replaced it. Very frustrating experience. Next time I'm getting a MAC.
I agree. Itching to reposition, but not gonna chase. This may be a one day End Of Month run.
