Wednesday's Energy Absurdity: This is how much land you must condemn to get 1/2 of a standard gas or coal power plant out of solar

Wednesday's Energy Absurdity: This is how much land you must condemn to get 1/2 of a standard gas or coal power plant out of solar
The video below, posted yesterday by Wide Awake Media, provides an aerial view of Western Downs Green Power Hub, the largest solar power plant in Australia. The WDGPH condemns more than 4,000 acres of arable farmland and contains more than 1 million solar panels across its vast complex.
Video at link
The developers and local officials boast that the plant will be capable of producing 460 MW of electricity at peak times on days the sun happens to be shining. That's what you get for sacrificing the amazing food production potential of 4,000 acres of arable land in Australia.
By contrast, an average natural gas or coal power plant produces 1 GW of electricity, and does it 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, regardless of the weather conditions. Such plants do have to be taken offline several weeks each year for maintenance, and, as we saw in Winter Storm Uri in Texas, can go offline in extremely severe weather events. (Of course, pretty much all the solar in Texas fell offline during that storm as well.)
The typical natural gas plant in Texas occupies perhaps 6-8 acres of land, the typical coal plant perhaps double that.
It's a big, big difference that boosters of solar don't like to talk about, but there it is.
That is all.

Harvard blatantly indoctrinates students into advanced anti-American Marxism
By Andrea Widburg
I had to read American literature in both high school and college. I read Mark Twain, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Louisa May Alcott, Jack London, Maya Angelou, Herman Melville, John Knowles, J.D. Salinger, and many other famous American writers. Some I liked; some I didn’t like. What I invariably hated was how English teachers approached them, picking them apart to the point of inanity (and, in my day, always with an eye to sexual symbolism). However, none of my teachers used those books to advance Marxism. At Harvard, though, things have changed, with the American novel being used as a platform for destroying America and her values.
Those of us who have been paying attention (as I have since my days at Berkeley in the early 1980s) know that academia has been home to leftism for a very long time. Mostly, though, it was subtle, and ordinary Americans viewed it as fringe, irrelevant stuff that students would abandon when they hit the real world.
We normal kept saying that as we read about snowflakes and their trigger warnings. We said it as the snowflakery morphed into the racial madness of DEI and CRT. We said it when gender madness overtook racial madness. And some people have been trying to say it (“It’s a few bad actors.” “It’s outside actors.”) regarding the antisemitism that’s now the norm on American college campuses.
And mind you, this is pure antisemitism. On the UC Davis campus, which used to be among the more sensible campuses in the University of California system, an elderly Jewish (not an Israeli, but a Jewish) professor was blocked from the campus:
Masked activists block Jewish Professor from entering the UC Davis campus where he works.
pic.twitter.com/pdq4CdyXCc
— Oli London (@OliLondonTV) May 15, 2024
This is not going away, and it’s not going away because what underlies all these ugly campus movements (hypersensitivity, racial grievances, gender insanity, antisemitism) is one unifying thing: Marxism.
Moreover, the subtly of my youth in academia has given way to blatant indoctrination. You can see that in this message from a Harvard Teaching Fellow within the English Department:
Do you want to understand the depth of the rot? Here is a course eval. sheet from a Harvard Teaching Fellow on American Novels. Read the yellow: pic.twitter.com/H4uy00M9v1
— David Wolpe (@RabbiWolpe) May 14, 2024
Here is the meat from that cheery note about what the teaching fellow hoped students would take away from their readings (and God alone knows what they were reading) (emphasis mine):
You will have noticed that we spent much of our time in lecture and discussion section connecting American novels and short stories to much broader questions: about American culture and history; about intellectual histories and philosophical movements that inform these novels; about American selfhood, sensibility, free spirits, artistry, and self-making. While our formal study this semester has ended, debates about the American self, culture, and freedoms are ongoing and unfolding in a lively way right here on Harvard's campus. Concerted efforts to divest these united states from imperial and colonial projects around the world--and thereby to engender freedom, self-determination, and liberation for more of earth's inhabitants-are being foregrounded by the Harvard students, faculty, and staff who are calling for the university to disentangle itself from weapons manufacturers and settler-colonial states that use indiscriminate violence against civilians. If you haven't yet visited the encampment in Harvard Yar which regularly hosts teach-ins and opportunities for ongoing study that directly or indirectly cut to the core of American culture and freedom, I highly recommend stopping by to continue learning and thinking about many of the questions with which we have grappled this semester.
This is not English literature. Indeed, it is barely English. This is preaching the Marxist revolution using the gibberish cant of academia.
I’d like to say something profound, meaningful, and hopeful at this point but I can’t because there’s nothing to say. Our once-premier institutions are now utterly corrupt. The U.S. is facing an existential ideological war. The normal people either win or they lose.
I do suggest, though, that you vote a straight Republican ticket in November, and I say that knowing that many Congressional Republicans are RINO, Uniparty members. I also know that many conservatives viscerally dislike Donald Trump. However, a Trump-led government with a Republican Congress, even a weak one, is better than a government led entirely by Democrats. At the very least, it will give us a little breathing space to try again to right the American ship of state.

Great shortstops and now swimmers?
By Silvio Canto, Jr.
Mayor Eric Adams of New York City took illegal immigration to another level. Who knew that this whole thing could get any crazier? I guess that the Trump "hush money" trial is not the only farce floating in New York.
Here is the story:
New York Mayor Eric Adams has just the job for the city's growing legions of illegal aliens, many of whom were bussed or flown in from distant locations like Texas where the illegal situation is far worse. But before I tell you what it is, I'm going to ask you to sit down and swallow that sip of coffee because I don't have the budget to replace everybody's keyboards.
Ready? OK.
Adams on Tuesday said the illegals should be hired as lifeguards -- the city has quite a shortage -- because “they’re excellent swimmers."
Wait a minute -- I thought that Venezuelans were great shortstops and the women were top Miss Universe candidates. I've got the evidence: Luis Aparicio, Omar Vizquel, and lots more. Have you checked the Miss Venezuela candidates over the years? They lead the league with those beauties from down there.
What gave the mayor the idea that these people could swim? He was the same man who said migrants would wreck the city and got no backlash from the media. I guess Democrats can say those things and the media just forgets about it.
On a serious note, whatever happened to young men who served as lifeguard over the years? It was a decent job, as my son told me. I did it for a week and watching all those girls in their Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikinis. It reminded us that boys and girls were different and nobody questioned it.
As for the mayor, I feel his pain specially having to work with the City Council and state legislature in Albany.

A Voter Integrity Group Hovers over the Target
By Jack Gleason
“You know you’re flying over the target when you’re getting flak,” the WWII saying goes. It means, “If you’re not a threat, they can safely ignore you, but when you’re directly over the target, they start shooting.”
United Sovereign Americans (USA), a 100% volunteer, nonpartisan organization, has been working for the last two years to expose errors and demand honest and accurate elections. They now share their technical and legal expertise with teams in 24 states. Their peer-reviewed audits of state voter rolls have found millions of errors that violate multiple federal election laws. Recently they joined an election lawsuit in federal court in Maryland, alleging that diluting real votes with fake and illegal votes violates our civil rights to honest elections. More lawsuits are on the way.
Looks like their efforts have struck a nerve.
It’s obvious that anyone elected in this new climate of “anything goes” voting rules probably wouldn’t want those rules to change. Instead, laws have consistently been weakened to the point where absentee ballots are mailed like sportswear circulars. In some states, signature verification on mail-in ballots has been reduced to a bored election worker clicking a mouse in one or two seconds, when a proper review takes up to thirty seconds.
This means that anyone who picks up an unclaimed ballot from an apartment complex’s postage room floor can fill it out with no fear of getting caught. In a blockbuster poll that should have made front-page national news, Scott Rasmussen revealed that “21% of Likely U.S. voters who voted by absentee or mail-in ballot in the 2020 election say they filled out a ballot, in part or in full, on behalf of a friend or family member, such as a spouse or child,” and “17% of mail-in voters say that in the 2020 election, they cast a ballot in a state where they were no longer a permanent resident.”
This is more than enough to have changed the results in 2020, and to confirm Americans’ suspicions that our elections are out of control. Inaccurate voter rolls allow for millions of extra votes to be cast by unscrupulous actors, as well as ordinary citizens with an extra ballot in their mailbox.
But challenges to the 2020 and 2022 election results have mostly failed, possibly because prosecutors and judges also run for election, and/or don’t want to make waves.
Until now, USA efforts have been largely ignored, but the Maryland lawsuit means that any additional conflicting rulings will automatically be sent up to the Supreme Court prior to the November election — and this has the Uniparty coalition worried enough to start cranking up their propaganda machine.
A recent article by the L.A. Times is a textbook case of shamelessly of using trigger wording to slant a narrative to oppose USA’s efforts.
(Trigger words in italics...)
The headline says it all: “Inside the far-right plan to use civil rights law to disrupt the 2024 election.”
The USA is not “far-right,” but strictly nonpartisan. Voters from both sides should want fair and honest elections — in primaries, too. Ensuring accurate vote counts would restore confidence, not disrupt it.
Marly Hornik, the unpaid CEO of USA, is labeled a “self-proclaimed ‘election integrity activist,” and chairman Harry Haury is called “a man who helped push former President Trump’s baseless challenges to Joe Biden’s election in 2020.” The Rasmussen poll proves that the challenges were not baseless.
The authors call the group’s plan to file civil rights lawsuits in multiple states and demand changes a “legal long shot” and say their experts “worry that if even one sympathetic judge rules in their favor, it could sow doubts about the integrity of a presidential rematch between President Biden and Donald Trump.”
Justin Levitt, a former deputy assistant attorney general who specializes in voting rights, says, “The group’s legal arguments rely on faulty interpretations of federal election law and are likely to fail in court.”
More trigger words...”United Sovereign Americans is part of a cottage industry of far-right election deniers that has sown disinformation since Trump lost his reelection bid.”
They discuss Hornik’s first group, New York Citizens Audit, whose “members spread conspiracy theories about the results of the 2020 and 2022 elections at events across the state.”
They bring up a cease-and-desist letter from New York attorney general Letitia James telling Hornik to stop “voter deception and intimidation efforts,” describing complaints that volunteers with her group had “confronted voters across the state at their homes, falsely claimed to be Board of Elections officials and falsely accused voters of committing felony voter fraud.”
Hornik explained that at the time of the letter, no one from their group was knocking on any doors.
They describe how she met future USA chairman Harry Haury “at a 2022 conference hosted by the group that funded the debunked pro-Trump propaganda film 2000 Mules, which is based on lies about the 2020 election.”
“Haury had been part of a little-known team of self-proclaimed cybersecurity experts who helped search for evidence of fraud in the 2020 election for some of Trump’s closest allies in the weeks after Trump lost. Haury’s background as a software engineer has largely been focused on energy technology.”
Haury has been involved with election matters for decades, including consulting on the design and creation of the Help America Vote Act of 2002. He has worked extensively with the U.S. military, the Department of Homeland Security, and the banking and intelligence communities. He is a recognized subject-matter expert on cybersecurity forensics, attack, and defense. He was directly involved with elections systems analysis after 2020 and was the first to advocate focusing on the massive election misconduct. He submitted expert testimony in several election challenges in 2020, including testimony before the Supreme Court.
Haury is much more than a software engineer.
The authors continue, “David Becker, who leads the Center for Election Innovation & Research, a group focused on restoring trust in the nation’s election system, described the work of Paine [from EIPCa] and Hornik as ‘an effort to dismantle election integrity under the auspices of election integrity’ amid an ‘ecosystem of grift[.]’ ... Hornik and Haury have asked for donations at public events and on far-right media, saying they need millions of dollars for their lawsuits.”
If these two are grifters, they’re the worst grifters on the planet. Neither takes a penny of compensation for their 100-hour workweeks. All funds go to retain lawyers for their federal lawsuits and minimal operating expenses.
Surprisingly, the authors quote Hornik accurately about USA’s plans.
“We believe that this very simple approach can advance rapidly,” she said. “It doesn’t matter if you weren’t allowed to vote or if your vote was drowned and suffocated by invalid ballots, either way, you didn’t really get to vote.”
The writers continue: “But the entire plan is based on a count of alleged errors in the voter rolls conducted by volunteers who lack expertise in the election system and election law. Hornik’s allies at Election Integrity Project California claim to have counted 257,894 people who voted in the state’s 2022 election despite potentially being ineligible to cast ballots. But they did not explain their criteria for identifying alleged discrepancies in the voter rolls, raising serious questions about their count.”
Election Integrity Project California is not USA. All USA analyses are based on official state data and are meticulously peer-reviewed by a team of statistics and database experts.
Congratulations to USA for flying directly over the target.

Jewish Donations Drying Up Over Biden’s Convoluted Israel Policy
It’s being called the “Never Biden” movement
by Leesa K. Donner | May 16, 2024
Pick a day, any day, and flip a coin: If it’s heads, the Biden administration is pro-Israel, and if it’s tails, it’s pro-Palestinian. A fluid foreign policy, to be sure, as evidenced by the president’s windsock approach to the war in response to a vicious Hamas attack on the Jewish homeland. To many, it appears as if Joe Biden is working overtime to master the art of sticking his finger in the air to determine which way the wind is blowing. If college campus protests are making the front pages, then it’s time to hold up a promised weapons shipment to Israel. If Jewish donations are drying up, then it’s time to hand over these critical armaments.
On May 7, the president addressed the Jewish community at the US Capitol in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day. In the 16-minute speech, Biden spoke forcefully about his commitment to the Jewish people in general and to Israel specifically. “They are already forgetting that Hamas unleashed this terror. It was Hamas that brutalized Israelis. It was Hamas who took and continues to hold hostages. I have not forgotten nor have you. And we will not forget.”
Some of those listening couldn’t be faulted for thinking the president’s words did not reflect his recent actions to slow-walk an armaments shipment to the Jewish state, forcing Israel to sit on its hands while he panders to the mob. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu had steam coming out of his ears. Liberty Nation’s National Security Correspondent David Patterson labeled it Biden’s “Jell-O-clad commitment to Israel.”
While all this flip-flopping is happening, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) appears to be panicking over the loss of donations to both the DNC and the Biden 2024 campaign. The cry of the Holocaust survivor has always been “never forget” or “never again.” Now, “never Biden” has made a grand entrance into the American political lexicon.
In an article in The Free Press titled “The Rise of the ‘Never Bidens,’” author Eli Lake made a compelling case that “[d]onors who once worried more about Donald Trump now see the president’s bid for a second term as the greater threat to America.” They identify longtime Democratic high-net-worth donors who are cashing in their chips and heading for the door.
Lake cited Democratic mega-donor Haim Saban, who felt the need to remind a couple of high-ranking White House advisers “that there are more Jewish voters who care about Israel than Muslim voters that care about Hamas.”
Jewish Donations – Drying Up Like a Leaf on a Cursed Fig Tree
What really has Democrats worried (other than the polls) are people like hedge fund moneyman Bill Ackman, who are jumping off the Biden train. Ackman’s post on X was short but not sweet: “Crazy. This is one of the worst acts against an ally of a sitting president ever. Hopefully, this means he won’t be sitting for much longer.” Then he doubled down with:
“A president who cared about his reputation and that of our country would never behave this way. I can therefore only conclude that these disastrous policy decisions are made by others in the administration as the president no longer has the capability or judgment to make them himself.
“Do we really want four more years of this?”
According to an interview The Free Press conducted with an anonymous political operative, an anti-Biden feeling has been growing since March among some Democratic donors. Multiple posts on X revealed that the whining about Biden has turned to grumbling, which has turned into openly declaring their disgust with the president’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.
A self-identified liberal progressive named Bertilak#JusticeForMalkiRoth put it this way:
“The President is losing Jewish votes. Most are frozen in place. Some large donors are not donating, but may. Some, including yours truly, a lifelong Democrat, will not vote for Joe Biden under any circumstances. Next week, I will decide on a candidate and get busy. Frankly, the more I see of Democrats in Congress, the less I think it possible for me to vote Democrat ever again. I am not alone. I am in a small minority, that gets bigger every day, all thanks to Biden.”
Another X post from someone called Erik hit the nail on the head: “Turns out trying to gain votes by siding with America hating domestic terrorists on college campuses and Islamists supporters from the Islamic province of Dearbornistan is not very popular among normal voters But seriously, the reason is wealthy Jewish donors called.”
Once the DNC started noticing a sinking trend in Jewish donations, Biden changed his tune and announced a plan to send $1 billion worth of arms to Israel.
Another X post written by someone named Domkle may have put it best when he wrote: “B [Biden] has one goal and one goal only, to be re-elected. Après moi le deluge [After me, the flood]. After the move to please the Squad and Muslims, he got an earful from the Jewish donors and saw a drop in the poll. So one swing to the other side. Color me surprised.”

The Presidential Debates Are On, But Team Biden Wants Safety Nets
The Biden campaign is hoping to stage-manage the showdowns with Trump.
by Graham J Noble | May 16, 2024
It’s election season 2024, but this year, presidential debates were never a sure thing. Given Joe Biden’s evident cognitive degeneration and a long list of policy failures that he and his White House staff can only tout as successes by making blatantly false claims, it really would have come as no big surprise had he flat-out refused to debate his opponent, former President Donald Trump. However, Team Biden has proposed two debates, one in June and the other in September. The Trump campaign has accepted this proposal. It was inevitable, though, that a few strings would be attached – and so the matter may not yet be settled.
The good news for Trump is that, unlike in 2020, he will get to debate his opponent before millions of Americans can take advantage of early voting. The timing of candidate debates was also an issue prior to the 2022 midterm elections. Mehmet Oz, who was running as a Republican for one of Pennsylvania’s US Senate seats, didn’t get the chance to debate his Democratic opponent, John Fetterman, until early voting was already well underway. At the time, Fetterman was recovering from a stroke that left him with cognitive and communication difficulties of his own. One could argue that if the two candidates had verbally duked it out in a televised debate before any Pennsylvanian got to vote, Fetterman may well have never been elected.
Strict Rules for Presidential Debates This Year?
There also had to be bad news, though. Trump is boisterous, brash, and a scrapper. He wants to interrupt and talk over anyone who is saying things he doesn’t like or doesn’t believe to be true. This is his nature. His ardent supporters love him for it, more moderate or centrist conservatives find it annoying, and, for Democrats, Trump’s bluster and bluntness can be added to the long list of reasons they despise him.
This time around – if the Biden campaign gets its way – Trump will be prevented, well, from being Trump, during this year’s presidential debates. On April 30, Liberty Nation reported that more than a few people in the left-wing media are apparently feeling some trepidation about presidential debates between the two main White House candidates. They fear, no doubt, that Biden is simply unable to meet the challenge without compromising himself in the eyes of millions of American viewers. The gaffes, the often-slurred speech, the temper tantrums, and the seemingly unquenchable desire to tell fictional stories about himself give Biden-supporting journalists good reason to feel worried.
Liberty Nation predicted that, for these very reasons, any Trump-Biden debate would be carefully controlled:
“[Biden’s] undeniable cognitive decline in recent years renders him incapable of holding his own against Trump in anything but the most rigidly controlled and staged-managed event. The rules by which Trump might refuse to play are perhaps those these journalists hope would be put in place to make the debates as accommodating as possible to Biden. They would leave little or no room for mistakes on his part – or for any appearance that he is not up to the task.”
Biden at least held his own against Trump during the 2020 presidential debates. In fact, he claims he came out on top in both of those encounters. That is debatable – no pun intended. Whether Biden won or lost those debates is largely subjective. His supporters would say he won; Trump supporters, of course, would disagree.
The Biden campaign is reportedly demanding that there be no studio audiences for the debates and that firm time limits be set for candidates’ answers to questions and rebuttals from the other candidate. Additionally, they require that “a candidate’s microphone should only be active when it is his turn to speak.” The incumbent’s campaign wrote that this last condition would ensure that “time is evenly divided and we have an exchange of views, not a spectacle of mutual interruption.”
Another stipulation is that the debates are one-on-one, meaning independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would not be allowed to participate. It appears, then, that Biden’s handlers are determined to protect him from having to make any unscripted remarks or being compelled to spontaneously respond to anything Trump says.
On social media, Trump posted, “Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!” Does this mean that he has accepted the Biden campaign’s conditions? We do not know for sure. Perhaps the Biden team thought that Trump would never accept the terms, giving them an excuse to avoid debating altogether. Maybe Trump thinks that he will come out on top, no matter what format the debates take. It seems quite likely that, muted microphone or not, Trump will interject during the debate as and when he wishes. One way or the other, this is sure to make for some entertaining viewing.
