Zeev, you are good at discerning MERQ. MERQ's earning is AH tomorrow. What is the chance of a warning? It recently broke 18 which is 52-week low, but bounced back hard to the high of 22.8 today.
I am thinking of build a position in MERQ, but remember your famous word "new lows beget new lows".
I suspect that MERQ's business won't be as robust as it claims to be, just a gut feeling, I can be totally wrong.
Zeev, welcome back. I sold some stuff again today after switching my 401k into cash yesterday at 3:58pm<g, ng>. At least I have ample cash to re-deploy.
You are the expert on SOX, with INTC screwed up pretty badly, do you think the likes of AMAT, CYMI, VSEA etc can hold the low for a successful retest or they will make at least nominal new lows? I sold all of them during the past two days, and wants to buy back, but this INTC missing is quite severe.
What I most worried about is the fact that NAZ may just go to 1200 or max 1150, but some momo stocks might nose-dive again.
Your opinion is very much appreciated.
P.S. I hope this is not the March 22 2001 senerio again, I remember NAZ rallied HARD for several days in March last year, and we were dancing and thought the Jan massacre was over, then the NAZ dived again and finally hit the bottom at April 3rd(4th?), where you told me to hold on for another hour but I goddamned capitulated 12 minutes before the astronomical bounce ensued....
Enough said, you are the master of trading.
Covered QLGC at 26.14, for a loss of 0.2. Man, this market is resilient. I am out of here.
Shorted a very small position of QLGC at 25.94, with very tight stop, will see how this plays out. Fully expect to be stomped again, so the size is small. 200 shares.
The only problem I have with NVDA is its management does not know the word "HONESTY".
If I sticked to my mantra of not trading in Sept till late October, I would have a spectacular year this year. Instead, I have been stomped, kicked, smacked during the past 50 days, it is the most frustrating trading during the past several years.
Well, woulda, coulda, shoulda. Live and learn.
Start to feel like last late October to me, too bad I switched my 401k into cash before yesterday's close, dang, missed this 4% index jump today<ng>.
Zeev's cash position scared me<gg>.
You could be right. But I just sold another 1/3th position of AMCC, can't resists. Will hold the 1/3th till Jan(yeah, right). We will see.
Sold some VSEA again for lunch money. Sold final portion of BEAS for a very nice gain of 20%. Man, even a sucker trader like me can make money, this market is too easy.
Man, ATML up in 3 days almost a whopping 200%, man, this market mania has not died out. Some of the POS stocks I followed almost doubled, even POS PDII almost doubled. This market is crazy.
My cash position is at 64%.
That is quite a high cash level. I am taking heed here, out of GNSS at 8.65 and another portion of AMCC at 3.25(still has 2/3 that I will hold till next Jan.), sold CYMI at 19.87 for some lunch money.
Back to my day job now. Thanks for the heads up Zeev.
Sold ATML that I bought last Wednsday at 0.89 for a very nice gain at 1.28, but it could have been better if I were in last Thursday for the crash to .58. Sold NTAP at 6.94. I am out of here.
Must be me who did SSCC a favor. I am doing a deal with SSCC to export some of their paper stuff. Seriously. No wonder I don't have time for trading<g>.
Have a nice weekend all. I am out of here.
You da man, never see a better trader than you. I have been knowing you long enough not to follow your every move, otherwise I go berserk<g>. I have better luck with loser stocks than with Qs. But again, thank you for your forcast Zeev. I sold a bunch of stuff just to be on the safe side. I dumped some BRCM at 11.64. Now I can safely have a peaceful weekend.
Did you see AMTL? Man, I would have bought it yesterday if I were in my office. I like to catch falling knives<g>. Oh well.
Sold half position of BEAS and TLAB, will hold the other half. Dumped POS ITWO for a loss. Hate ITWO, no bounce no matter what, so adios.
Not going to wait for 1222. Sold AMD for a minor gain. I am done here. A very nice day. You all have a nice weekend.
Just sold SWKS and SEBL here for some nice profit. SWKS has been a tiny little ATM for me. Too bad everytime I can only withdraw about 200 bucks, and then lose the money immediately into the gambling pit called "SOX" machine.
But SOX now looks to me have hit a bottom. I will buy VSEA and CYMI on pull back if I can get them.
Zeev, are you still in the Qs? Didn't get a chance to grab them yesterday because I was away from my desk. Now they are far away from my buying target. Any more fuel under the Qs or you are ready to take profit?
Even a broken clock can right twice. I sold CNXT at .95 for a whopping 50% gain. I can't believe that I can have this type of luck. My trading usually sucks. Even my buy of NTAP and VRTS now are up 30%. I vowed to hold CNXT till year end, but can't resist the temptation here. Will try to get it at a discount.
PDII has up over 30% since you mentioned the other day. Even my loser AMCC is behaving ok.
Is market turning Zeev? Last October and early November 2001 we never got the retreat or pull back. I just remember wave after wave of tidal short covering squeeze day after day just to kill me.
This year, no shorts for me. I am comfortable at 40% cash. Whatever the market is doing, so be it.
Yeah, you right Brightness, that NAZ "1700" number feels like three centuries ago, yet it was just less than a year ago.<g> This market surely sucks ass.
I hope Zeev is right, hope NAZ is still basing according to him. I am very bearish nonetheless(though I don't short).
Have you ever SERIOUSLY consider running for President? Why can't you be a Henry Kissinger type of person? I don't want to sound trite here, but honestly, Zeev, I have greatest respect for you, and have seen you possess great wealth of knowledge, whether it is physics, engineering, or in political, social, historical realm. Besides, unlike the idealistic left and the hawkish right, you HAVE real ideas and real solutions to offer.
I would vote for you in a heartbeat. Ever thought of establishing a "Cool Hed" party or the "National Turnips Front"? <gg>.
Back at my office, and just picked up some CNXT at .62. Hey, that is what I am refering to "relentlessness". Mark my word Zeev, if CNXT won't go belly up in the next three months, I will hold this sucker like AMCC for 2 to 3 months.
I start to see October tax selling, am I wrong? Weak getting weaker. My basket of loser stocks smell like fish baking under a hot sun for three days.
Picked some SWKS at 4.11 and some AMTL at .89. Cash at 40% or so.
NTAP is doing very nice since I picked it this morning. TLAB which I have been holdingfor a month, acutally is quite resilent.
Thanks Pat. Very informative as always.
Sold SEBL AT 5.75, EMC 3.92. I am out of here. Good luck to you all.
Pat, you work on Wall Street, what do you see about the market? I broke my vow of not trading in Sept/Oct, and have been deservingly stomped, (but not to the point of a head examination by you though<g>). My question is with the layoff and stuff on the street, do you still see a seasonality of strong 4quarter in the market or the massive layoffs finally take its toll on the market?
Thanks man. See ya(or not).
Just sold QLGC at 20.6, EXTR again 3.62 for another 5%, cool.
Thanks Pat for the information. Very much appreciated.
I trust you on SKX, may nibble some here. Just hope it won't turn out to be a "Cripple Begger"<gg>.
Zeev, did you realize that you have 666 people bookmarked you? <gg>
Forget it, someone just bookmarked you, to destroy the bad karma<g>.
Back to EXTR at 2.47, EMC at 3.79. Let the rally begin. Or what rally?<gg>. I hope to have a bit green out of an ocean of red.
Sold EXTR for a 10% gain. JNPR sold at 2.48. Have to take some profit first.
I got a feeling that this afternoon will be strong? But I'm usually wrong 98%.
Bottom=Nine Feet Under? I hope the analysts and their bosses all laying there. But, don't count on it.
I picked up some EXTR at 2.37, some JNPR at 4.36, and a slew of blew ups like NTAP, SSTI, and yeah, QLGC, I must be crazy, but with VIX and P/C ratio like these, I am going to give them a try.
What do you see this afternoon Captain Zeev "Cool" Hed?
...and zillion other f..ked tech stocks that used to be a fixture on my screen.
Hey, I know that the techs might be destined to all penny stocks, at least the "shock" will be view with cynicism "$1 to $0.1", rather than the anger and disbelief of "$150 to $15".
Two years ago, although bearish, I would have NEVER expected this kind of massacre.
Nothing surprises me anymore.
Some tech company should fold right now, and return the cash per share back to me!!!!
Now I know you have a cult following<g>. Just saw your post to me, and noticed that PDII jumped from 2.9 to 3.23, a 10% jump right after your post. Hmmm, someone did a "justifiable pre-emptive strike"<gg>.
Oh well, too late for me to chase it. There always is tomorrow.
BTW, Zeev, do you still have GNSS,SSTI, and ZRAN? There performance are downright rotten.
EXTR, OAKT(!), PDII, any thoughts of worth buying them here? I am thinking of buying some EXTR, pure cash level, but what do you think?
Tony, that is a fatasy. I have not seen a society, whether it is capitalistic, socialistic, communistic, fascistic, whatever, that the rich or the privilaged will suffer first than the ordinary people.
Like the English writer once said, it's ALWAYS the common people who would get marginalized. Not the rich one.
In another country, what we have seen on WS and the corporate America would have incited mass demonstration or a possible revolution. I don't believe revolution will solve problem either, I don't believe anything will solve problem, I do believe rich will always screw the poor with few exceptions.
Am I cynical enough?
I don't know about you, with NAZ down only 4 points, but a lot of stock I follow are down "relentlessly", man, this October sucks to no bound. No way we are "retest", we are making new lows after new lows. NAZ 1000 will not surprise me.
Thank you Zeev. You have said exactly what I want to say.
I support War against terrorism. But it is the precedent of "justified preemptive military attack" that really is scary. Based on this doctrine, then what can prevent any other country to attack another country under this premise? Once Pandora's box is opened, it is very hard to close, and may drag the world into warring abyss.
Bush has wasted a lot of goodwill that the world has gave to the U.S. after 9/11. Now his incessant war rhetoric starts to run hollow, and push a lot of people to view it rather cynically at this is just another move to get the oil. Saddam should be removed, but by waging a war that will kill a lot of people(our soldiers and Iraq soldiers and civilians) just to get one guy? Does not make whole lot of sense.
What about the real daunting task of ridding terrorism from the world? There is a real danger that a marginally-justifiable war against Iraq will further incite terrorist activities against the US because we can see that rest of the world, including our allies, view this war with suspicion.
Bush's foreign policy can be euphemistically called "cowboy style" or sheer "jackass tactics". What he should do actually demands a great deal of patience, meticulous strategy and planning, and superb statemanship to foster strong global support, alliance and intelligence gathering to fight terrorism. Because terrorism can not be cleared by dropping a million bombs, but rather, it might take years of hardwork to make the world a safer place.
I remember Sun Tzu's most important military doctrine is "A battle in the field is not the best way to defeat an enemy". Similarly, I think Teddy Roosevelt's "speaking softly but carrying a big stick" is more effective.
U.S. used to lead the world on high moral ground, even in the event of a pending war. But this time, we can not say with 100 percent moral justification that Iraq should be attacked before we are presented with convincing evidence that it is a immidiete threat to the free world.
Back to 30% cash does not seem to be a bullish stand Zeev. Is this becuase of the Bush speech and your not in the morning tomorrow, or becuase you still see dangers ahead?
I vaguely remember your cash position was very low several days again when the NAZ was at higher level.
I sincerely hope that Bush's speech won't rock the market. There is a strong corellation that everytime Bush speaks, the market tanks. It sounds like a joke, but sadly, it is a fact<ng>.
Hey, this is not political, just an observation.
Martha's Stuart, although guilty, did nothing compare with the real frauds during the past several years on WS or in the corporate boardrooms. I will not be convinced that a Martha Stuart will solve the systemic problems and the total loss of confidence for corporate America. SEC is a joke.
All day everyday, all I hear is war. I suspect that the market, in it's own wisdom, senses that the political mess and the war threat is too much and situation too murky, thus the sell off.
I support war against terrorism, but if the government can only stop for one hour per day and concentrate on rejuvinate the economy. Geesh.
Out of respect for Zeev, this is my only and last comment about politics. (Though it is not that political I guess, just some thoughts that can be totally wrong).
I just fast-read your more than 30 posts here. Are you expecting a black Monday? Don't worry, I will not hold you accountable<g>.
Just came back home and saw the market tanked again. Well, not a surprise. It would really surprise me to see one freaking up day for a change.
Too bad I didn't get a chance to sell some of the Q for profit intraday, because I saw around 3pm some of the stocks I bought had small gains. But I did got stopped out of QLGC, and ZRAN.
Weirdly, rest of my buys didn't dip that much at all. VSEA, EXTR, VRTS and NTAP actually are higher. Hmmm, usually with NAZ like this, my portfolio would have been killed.
Do you have an opinion of PDII? Are you still in it? I am thinking of buying some, but this kind of low-volume decline is pathetic.
Have a good weekend Zeev. Once again, this market sucks to no bounds! Too bad I am not a SM fan, otherwise I might like the torture. Uhh!
Bought the Q's at these fire-sale prices, almost all around the lows. I also bought EXTR few minutes ago, bought some VRTS. Doubled up on AMCC, and bravely(or insanely) loaded up on VSEA, CYMI and AMAT. Also got some AMD near the low. Either I will be the road kill, or come out ok. I am taking my chance here.
I will hold these at least for a day or two, unless of course, either the market craps, or I have big gains intraday.
I will be out for the day today. Good luck Zeev. Hold the market for me.<g>.
In edit, got some ZRAN(new low!), some SEBL, and JNPR. Man, talking about roll the dice. Whatever, I hate this market regardless.
