Thanks Matt! I was just about to do a people search for him because I'd seen his name earlier. Best regards, MM
Hi cOUSIN SHORTY, I guess you broke some rules and I'm not sure you're still around but if you are let me know where to go on iHub to find some technical analysis enthusiast's. Preferably those that are into modeling setups and coding them.
Same for anyone else that might know where I can find like minded trader's to bounce ideas off of.
I'm not interested in any picks, calls, or market talk... just coding profitable rules.
Best regards, MM
Can any of you recommend an iHub thread where I might find traders interested in technical analysis. I'm looking for a caliber of trader that might be anywhere from beginner to pro but definitely serious about doing solid research and with sharp analytical skills ... even those who might just be starting but have that gift of distinguishing true value when they first see it and can tell what won't work in advance because they've either tried it or worked out the theoretical basis.
Also, other message boards or email lists of serious TA enthusiasts are of interest to me.
Best regards, MM
Trendlines are so linear but price is non-linear. btw, this isn't a comment about anything or anyone on this thread fwiw, just a comment about linearity...
I lied, not sure way, guess I wanted to be nice. That was a comment about a chart i saw here. Confession is good for the soul. I was acutally amused by the trendlines that were capturing price and suspending it in air without rules for how to deal with the whips that were sure to come, because the chart already was full of chop, which of course all had nice neat trendlines supporting it... after it had moved to those new locations of course. yeah a little sarcasm but..
rules for trading chop are defined before hand not after it moves and a new congestion pattern forms within those tight flag boundaries, and defining movement out of the congestion area verses traps that just poke out and back in... might wanna have a plan for that.
Don't know what's bothering me yet but if i keep writing maybe I'll sort it out. Oh, it's all those projects, I enjoy them but when I get distracted it's sometimes hard to get back to them. I told someone yesterday that I accepted it was my responsiblity to control the ammount of time I spend on the net so there's still time to code.
I haven't been to this site in awhile, I don't need another site, so that's nagging at me too... but if I look at this from the perspective I had when I came here tonight this isn't just another site, it's a replacement for some places I've been spending lots of time. That puts a smile back on my face because it means it's not necessarily more time spent on the net.
However, I've yet to meet many people that actually use TA other than those that think combining a few indicators will produce profits. <sigh> I'm happy ya'll think that works and glad to trade against you. And I don't want to share proprietary ideas but I do want to discuss TA if it can be subverted so the actual variables are concealed beneath layers of talk about conventional indicators. The rules often will be similar but 1 produces a profit while the other doesn't.
And ... There are moments I don't mind sharing bits of proprietary material because the feedback helps me better understand it. But there needs to be like minded traders to share with. I'm obviously on the wrong thread! But where on iHub are there good traders? I've an idea... I'll look up LG and see if he's here.
You're welcome.
This thread was a good idea. It's dead now. I'm partly responsible in that I wanted to take but wanted to protect proprietary thoughts.
Maybe it can be revived.
I think my trading methods are different than the direction the thread was taking. I'd like to see code. Preferably EL easy language for TS tradestation.
If anyone wants to post some pseudo-system code or even some real stuff, this is one place it could be done.
Someone sent me a system last week that they described as "really" profitable. Their quotation marks not mine. I read through it and it made sense but being in system format I knew I'd need to convert it to the matching indicators to make sense of the signal arrows. I never even plotted it. Supposedly he wrote it 3 hrs earlier and was based on the theme of his main system which is even more profitable. I believe the idea was I'm supposed to offer him some input on system1 which doesn't give away all his proprietary stuff in system2 and then he'd use my input to improve system2 because it's so similar to system1.
Someone else sent an incredible ammount of input and put some really hard work into duplicating a parallel model of a new system I'm working on. I think he actually put more effort and time into his model of my model than I spent on it this past week.
Meanwhile I've determined that a project I decided to write long ago was going to be assigned a project number a few weeks ago and finally got started on it. Although I certainly don't need to be going in that direction right now, nor can I spare the time but I just love brainstorming theoretical system stuff and can't help myself from wandering off onto interesting paths when the actual code I'm writing for something else becomes tedious or boring.
Then someone sent me a project that needs my programming help and dovetails nicely with what I'm already doing and my skills in a certain area would help tremendously. I offered to write the parts he was having difficulty with but said I'd leave some comment blocks where he could fill in the details that I would describe ... in other words, I said I'd help but he'd have to write the main module.
I really didn't have time to get involved with that one and don't have confidence in the methodology but I'd do it anyway, to help him, and for what I'd learn, if I could find the time.
I did accomplish quite a bit of exception rule modeling for the 1 project I should be spending all my time on. It's a takeoff of Dunnigan's One Way Formula and I've strayed far from the original but it's still swing... Swing like nobody understands anymore, my pet peave is people who think a swing trade is longer than some given length of time. Well that's the way everyone abuses the word but Swing is actually a method that uses swinglines.
I'm a bit pissed at myself for the amount of time I spend on the net. I'm also very pleased with some of the friendships I've made and the help I receive developing system rules. It's a quandry finding the time to implement all the ideas I have because I keep looking for new stuff. Something challenging there that I don't understand or I'd have it under control by now.
Just need to close IE and open my code editor and pickup where I left off... and I need to do it now, but I want to go read some messages first ; )
I need to unsubscribe from all these message boards but that will never happen.

Hi Sara,
I'm swamped with programing projects right now so it's time to focus. That means I can't poke around on these message boards much or I won't make the progress I want. I'm cutting back everywhere in order to find more time.
Best regards, MM
I haven't tried Linux. I'm told it's for setting up a dedicated machine for highly specialized unfathomable tasks that result in more data than EDS would know what to do with. That's from a trading buddy that's been known to do that sort of thing.
It's tradestation's easy language which includes an array sort function but it's not trustworthy. Meanwhile there's other routines but I haven't figured them out yet.
It's a small problem but I have to get past it before I can progress. I should get back to it instead of posting and reading messages.
Tradestations easy language. But you should note by my question there's quite a bit I can't do.
just a little perpetual motion thingy...

Correcting a mistake in a few of the default values:
array: uSort[3](0), dSort[3](0);
I want to sort the arrays uSort+dSort in ascending and descending order. So far I've only succeeded in populating them. Any thoughts on how to sort them?
var: ui(0), di(0);
array: uRoc[9999,0](0), dRoc[9999,0](0), uSort[0](0), dSort[0](0);
if ui>=4 then begin {populate uSort}
uSort[0]=uRoc[ui,0];
uSort[1]=uRoc[ui-1,0];
uSort[2]=uRoc[ui-2,0];
uSort[3]=uRoc[ui-3,0];
end;
if di>=4 then begin {populate dSort}
dSort[0]=dRoc[ui,0];
dSort[1]=dRoc[ui-1,0];
dSort[2]=dRoc[ui-2,0];
dSort[3]=dRoc[ui-3,0];
end;

I missed EXPE and was just wondering if it's over or might still be in play tomorrow. TIA for your analysis and Best Regards, MM
Alex: I like your thoughts on scaling profits and would add a mirror image can be used for entries but maybe that was implied and I'm being redundant. I'm interested in conditions, patterns, and areas that signal changes.
SE: if you or anyone else is familiar with techniques Tom Trader used it could be a starting point for discussion.

Trendlines are so linear but price is non-linear. btw, this isn't a comment about anything or anyone on this thread fwiw, just a comment about linearity... actually non-linearity and why it fascinates me... along with array's to store stuff that's not sequential, actually it's sequential but not along a time axis.
Someone I've always admired mentioned non-linearity once and ever since then I've watched for methods that could be considered non-linear. I've twisted a number of approaches until I was convinced I had achieved that goal but most times I was just fooling myself.
Anyway, I enjoy looking at trendlines and thinking about the true nature of the price which is almost contained by them.
Nice thread, Regards, MM
Do you trade for a living?
What do you know about this OTC BB stock?
It's a mistake to strip a user's alias and give it to someone else. The alias belongs to the user who claimed it. Not someone who claimed it somewhere else.

At least not until this suspensions over. What happens afterwards is up to you Hal...
