Hi Linda,
<<<<<All 24 of Wahz's picks, those in the header, are long term holds. He didn't pull RFMD; he did have a st target down to 9 in the correction, but he didn't pull it.>>>>>
A stop loss hit, removing RFMD from my portfolio and I may buy it back again later. I never questioned it being one of wahz's picks......did I?
<<<<<The Morningstar ratings will catch up to Wahz. The value of his insights is that they precede the masses' insights. If Morningstar knew what Wahz knew then his picks wouldn't have room to grow.>>>>>
Did you read what I said? I said the wahz port "may" be volatile because they are seen as speculative right now. I must like the picks, as I'm adding to them. Morningstar has always been good at what has happened and not so good at the future IMO.
<<<<<TXN is one of Wahz's picks on his watch list. It's been there a long time.>>>>>>
As far as TXN goes, a header pick and a watch list play are different. I myself see TXN similar to QCOM that is as a good tech core holding that I might not buy because I can only have so many.
Fletch
A good volatile......... :)
Hey dieselfuel,
I go by the charts as well as fundamentals....charts NEVER lie. When I say hot....it maybe chart wise......$ flowing into.......I try to use both TA and FA....leaning more towards FA now tho..........
Yes, TXN should be a possible board play ... for several reasons.
Hint hint wahz,
Fletch
Chart not so hot......but not bad...
TI Unveils 1 GHz Digital Signal Processor
Jay Wrolstad , long link
Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN - news) (TI) has unveiled a 1 GHz digital signal processor designed to effect significant improvements in the performance of wireless communications systems, IP-based video and telecommunications networks.
Boosting DSP speed from 720 MHz to 1 GHz gives customers the performance required to develop a variety of new applications, said Thomas Brooks, a product marketing manager for DSPs at TI. "The ability to process information faster means added features and channels for wireless infrastructure, telecom infrastructure and digital video content," he told NewsFactor.
Handling More Traffic
In essence, DSPs provide real-time processing for cell phone calls, VoIP transmission and other applications by compressing data to make better use of bandwidth. Other applications include IP-based video, high-speed broadband networking, medical diagnostics and radar.
For example, said Brooks, a single 1 GHz DSP can process 55 GSM (global system for mobile communications) cellular network channels, compared to about 35 channels with a typical 600 MHz DSP. "That performance lets developers avoid having to design with multiple processors," he said.
Smaller, Faster
The new 1 GHz DSP uses the 90-nanometer (nm) process node, which TI also applied to its existing 720 MHz components -- a move that slashes the prices on these industrial products, said Brooks. Smaller, faster chips based on the 90-nm process consume less power, he said, while enabling more chips to be used in a wafer.
The process, also used by other chip makers, including Intel (Nasdaq: INTC - news), allows a higher density of on-chip memory to increase application efficiency. As a result, TI has cut the price of its existing 720 MHz chips by more than half.
The new 1 GHz and 720 MHz devices at 90 nm are code-compatible with their predecessors, eliminating the need to write new software. They are also pin-to-pin compatible with previous versions, enabling drop-in replacement for increased performance, lower power consumption and lower cost without extensive redesign.
Cutting Costs
TI is sampling three 1 GHz DSPs, with production prices starting at US$189 in 10,000-unit quantities. The first will be commercially available in the fourth quarter of 2004, the company said. The 720 MHz versions of these devices also will be available at a price reduction of up to a 50 percent.
TI, which already dominates among vendors selling products based on the global GSM/GPRS wireless standard, recently teamed up with European chip maker STMicroelectronics to launch a CDMA (news - web sites) wireless chipset that poses a direct challenge to CDMA pioneer and market leader Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM - news).
Hey Bullwinkle,
Thought I'd stop by and say Hi .....where do we put our 2004 $?
My thoughts and V H Opinion is on Gold, Telecom suppliers, Linux picks, Flat screen plays and Nano techs.....
Wishing the best,
Fletch
Flat screen wedgie
Marching right on up.........very steady like......
My favorite gold...entry at hand if not in???????
Wedge formation here?
A nano wedge
wahz,
Have you considered owning any of the flat screen suppliers? There "may" be 90% growth rates on average for the next two to three years for LCD TVs as prices drop drastically and sizes get bigger. A projected surge in sales of high-def LCD, plasma and liquid crystal on silicon-based TVs can really get going around early to mid 2004. Some possible plays are SIMGE, IMOS, SPIL and AUO.
Thanks,
Fletch
Wedge formation here on a very bullish chart. Nanotechs very hot too........ ;>)
Space..........amazing huh?
Hi deiselfuel and board,
<<<<Come down quicker? eom.>>>>
Yes, that is what I left off at the end.....but.....
In my opinion the board picks are mostly "speculative" and until
those earnings start rolling in, we may be in for some
volatility. BTW, Morningstar shows an even shared wahz tracking
port as Distressed 28.45%, Slow Growth 23.23%, Classic Growth
7.65%, Speculative Growth 40.67%. High Yield, Hard
Assets,Cyclical, Aggressive Growth all 0%. I'm not complaining at
all about this, for if we get what is projected, big smiles will
be on the faces of the wahz pick players.
I myself have been increasing the wahz picks in my ports. In one
I'm into JDSU, AMCC, FNSR, NENG, CIEN, AVNX, HLIT, SONS, SUNW and
NOVL totalling 40% and in that order. I realize SONS and SUNW
aren't pure wahz picks but I'm counting them as such.
In another it's AVNX, CIEN, FNSR, PMCS, SCMR, HLIT, AMCC, NENG,
RHAT, ITXC, and MRVC. Again, RHAT and PMCS are counted and all
these amount to 31.22% of the port. Both ports I've targeted to
be at 50% board picks by late summer, with BKHM my next addition.
If wahz knows of a "must hold" I'm missing....please let me know!
I've tried to pick ones that maximize gains but know there might
be a stinker or two mixed in. As an example, QCOM can really take
off in a bull but might only double from here because it's priced
to be a good sound profitable company going forward. I like QCOM
and it's a great tech core to hold though.
Looking at what to buy and hold onto, I recently added some RFMD
on the wedge but the poor guidence and weakness removed it from
my holdings. I am holding FNSR, even though they gave a weak
projection. That FNSR final price target is my main candy or
attraction to it I guess.
Please hold $3.50 FNSR....LOL,
Fletch
In Edit..I'll change that photo..I dislike wide screen posts....
Fixed it by hitting enter.....can't change photo this post......
No wonder I liked the first 3 weeks of January so much <ggg>....but what goes up real quick might also.............nah..
Fletch
BDH = MOMO
So sorry augie..........
read too fast,
Fletch
Hey augie,
I guess I'm erring bullish for now...... I kind of know we are headed for a pull back sooner or later <ng> but after having such a great day this past Friday......with the wahz plays <VVBG> I'm ready to add to them. I must confess that it's been very rare for me to hold stuff (this many) that is up double digits % wise......AVNX, CIEN, SCMR, AMCC, JDSU, SONS....ect.
RFMD is a good solid company ready to partake in this telecom rally IMHO...
No thoughts on head and shoulders right now,
Fletch
I look at this and think it's just starting to take off....TXN a big possible core too...
Hey wahz,
Do you have an upside target on RFMD? It's lagged a little and chart looks ready <g>. I would think it should be a 5 bagger from here ...longer term... BWTHDIK.
Thanks,
Fletch ...sort of a wedge or making the handle on a cup?
Hey wahz,
Hope your enjoying the time away....<vbg>
SONS I have from the 7.50 area and you've said before that it's a little ahead of itself. I did add ITXC and MRVC in the Roth and am waiting a good entry on BKHM. Is SONS one to let go of around the $9.50 plus area IYHO?
My plan is to shed some "not so desirable holdings" soon and wait with some $ for the summer doldrums. The board picks I'll hold onto and only may add to these when good entries are offered.
Come on NENG,
Fletch
PS Still holding NENG and it's the only board pick I'm down on. Please don't feel bad about it cause....AVNX is now up 70% from the just before Christmas buy. You are a very good stock picker....bot the wedge on this....under $4.50 in Roth. I'm just loving AMCC, JDSU, CIEN, SCMR......very fine... :>)
Hey tlc,
Space.....The Final Frontier.....
Fletch

fed,
We all have different opinions and that is a very good thing. I enjoy your posts, that's why I answered you....so post where ever you want but don't leave here because my opinion differs from yours.
Fletch
Hey fed,
I guess there is very basic differences between bulls and bears.....If I had made enough $ to be happy, I might be a semi bear now..just to feel kind of safe......nah...but..not that I'm greedy....we are in a full blown recovery IMVHO...<<VBG>>...time to take a risk or two fed....????
Fletch.... being bearish now????????Come on...buy a little!...
wahz.......do the elephants ever stamped?......The thought that there is years of this to look forward too...............oh my.....+....................... <VVBG>.......
Fletch . this will look very very fine at $50!
NO fed...it will explode..... the bubble that is....... around 4 years from now........get out of your bunker and LIVE! Telecommunication revolution we are in my friend.......
Fletch
I own these btw................look at the volume too...M.Funds buying????
fed.....you see problems?????
I see.......
Fletch
handle was forming but JNPR earnings............and?
Look at this fine picture of space....cool huh?
Hey wahz,
Your NOVL is up 60% in my wahz tracking port.....<VVBG>
I worry too much when we get up too much.....I know....let your winners run........but tough to do,
Fletch
PS You are a big help my friend..... :>) ....your still helping people....like me.....even now & here..... ;>) Lets make a deal......we help each other.....big handshake! BULLS are too cool..
The stars and space are too.........
Hi wahz,
<<<<<<By the way, we had considered sunw here, and it would have been a great addition if we would have added it on the last dip, which was when I brought it up.>>>>>>>
I was lucky on buying SUNW myself and only wish I had bought more on that dip. Buying more brings up a thought and or a question. With the runs we've had, is now a good time to cut back or trim a little? I'm in most of the board picks and almost all of the projected 7 to 10 baggers except one .....JDSU. With the expected weakness approaching, is it better to build up cash now and wait for lower entries at a later dip? I'm thinking of being at least 50% board picks by summer, so a lot of my near term trimming will be on "other stuff".
Thanks,
Fletch
<<<<<<<OTOH, and those of you who tried to get me to list rhat instead of novl, well novl has been awesome, and rhat has been awesomer.>>>>>>
Your board header says 2004: the year of Linux, Storage, and Fiberoptic systems .............RHAT is Linux....you called it...
Lucky on my RHAT entry too but trimmed way too early ng. At least I can think, that about the time I sold some RHAT in one account, I bought NOVL in another LOL.
I was watching this back around the 3.25 to 3.50 area too....but thought it kind of a pos... If it gets to anywhere near $50...pos=NOT....lol. I had this one long ago.....
wahz,
Remember....not too long ago....how you felt like a market goat? .........Now you are the market KING.......Please remember board, that wahz is the same guy....in good times and in baaaaaadddd. I really appreciate your posts and efforts wahz..... Are some of your price targets high........ Oh YES. Can they hit?........????......YES! At least my child side thinks so LOL.....
I Like this board,
Fletch
Look at the long base....ready to form a cup??...............Lots of E's pointing UP!
Happy New Years Everyone......Fletch
Hey Linda,
I love WHT. I'm in from 9 or 10 months ago tho......
<<<<Is the January rally going to fizzle at the end of December? Or will it carry itself strong through January? I sure could use a whole month of green.>>>>
Not being much of a predictor, I'd say that the trend could continue up....that is with December being the correction month. The market has a mind of it's own, so I tend to let it and the charts show the way. My month ended green but just barely, with these last few days pulling it out.
<<<<<On NENG, I thought we already had our hidden bad news in that private offering deal, in the law suits, in the renegotiated contract with EMC. Isn't that enough? :)>>>>>
I'm a little worried there might be more bad or a second shoe ready to drop. I'd guess that a little company that has run up as far as NENG has, this might be expected. We are all more leary from that 3 year bear, aren't we?
I work full time myself, with a quick glance at the market and whats going on, once in awhile. If I watched full time I'd go nuts. I'm now just letting the bull led the way <VBG>. All I've sold or taken profits on, over the last 9 months, has quickly said that I'd trimmed or sold too soon. I'm trimming more now just to get better positioned into what I think will be real good in 2004, like the wahz plays.
I have RHAT from lower, trimmed around 14 but never added at 12 ng. I won't bore you with more details but it looks like we are out of the bear, at least for awhile.
GO NENG!
Fletch
Hi Linda,
Thanks for the NENG sell off thoughts, all of which I can live with. What I'm worried about is that there might be some hidden bad news waiting in the wings. Most of the time "someone" knows ahead of everyone else.....us, is my only real fear. I too was up today with CYD, TLK and WHT leading the way of the non wahz stuff.
Fletch
PS in edit: Yes, when we reach new highs, trimming isn't bad. I trimmed a little today <g>.
<<<<<Because someone has been dumping about 1/2 a million shares.>>>>>
wahz selling his trader position on us? <G>
Fletch
PS and in edit: My wahz play tracking port was up 2% today. When I made the positions it was even blocks not even value. Should still be better then the over all market tho.
Hey augie,
This one is getting frustrating to say the least. It looked like the big dump was over and then today.....again with no bad news??
The last shakeout?
Fletch ...... Someone big wants out fast.....wonder WHY?
OK, so why is NENG taking a hit today? Only news is a conference where they might have said some not so nice stuff?
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/031229/295163_1.html
Fletch
<<< so would 100 be crazy? >>>
Nope,
Fletch
Hey wahz,
Looking at your potential targets up there, from current prices, SCMR, FNSR, NENG, AVNX, AMCC, HLIT, CIEN and JDSU are all doubles or more. I listed them in order with SCMR being the biggest gainer. I'm hoping your being very conservative with NENG <VBG>. I'm holding most of these btw.
Thanks for the targets,
Fletch
Not a bad looking chart for adding some now......
Down side looks limited here too.......
These are all starting to wedge up..........
Yes Zeev,
I'm just showing the charts.....I know your opinion on them <g>.
Fletch
Hey Zeev,
Your thoughts on BSTE......does the chart say the basing period is over? Lots of buyers step in around $25.
What about this JCOM?
I haven't seen this in a long time. RIMM shorts frying???
Hi wahz,
I'm still in NENG because none has found a reason to be out other then the news price crash but it's painful. I doubled up but think it's prudent not to add anymore................just yet.
Fletch
Only 4 up days in December.
<<<<"2004: the year of Linux, Storage, and Fiberoptic systems">>>>
So far the Linux call has been good. I have both NOVL and RHAT.
Hey Bullwinkle,
Maybe we chop, then go a bit higher into mid January to comp 2100 to 2200 area. Then form the handle.............it's very very possible???
Then it's up up and away :),
Fletch...........I love talking bullish lol + <VBG>....
One that won't calm you down. What a base..from $3.50 to $35...a 10 bagger!
Sunny Side Up?
Augie,
I'm wondering how much volume is traders and how much is just hedge fund churn? It doesn't make sense that NENG sells off this much on news that it's earnings will get hit 6%. Then again, look at SNDK, LEXR, JCOM, BSTE and UTSI. NENG is yet another, that has joined the ranks of big winners, getting dumped......Why??????? Who knows why.....or is it low accumulation by daboyz?
I added too,
Fletch.......my wine is almost all gone......ng.
Another chart to look at and think on........Now it's bed time <G>.
Fletch
<<<<<What d'ya think, my friend?>>>>>>
Yes Dan,
I really was just bullish on gold..........longer term and not predicting what might happen short term. I never try to predick but do try to keep possibilities open. Lots are saying gold goes flat for a time and or to buy the SA miners.....DROOY has been a stinker but it may be ready to move now???
Fletch ... Double bottom W formation here.......with higher low.

Hey Dan,
Might as well let others see the XAU lol. It's at about mid price longer term and in a cup formation stage.
Can it pull back......yes.......... Can it run further...........
Oh yes,
Fletch ........... So, what if we form a handle at 155 <ggg>.
Hey Augie,
That looks like a ping eye 4's.......with 2 golf balls lol. With the "Hoovers" coming atcha,
Fletch
PS.....Any nipples on those "Hoovers"?....rotflmao
A very thin hit if you ask me...........very funny puppy that augie :)
My wife likes Kirby...........but I like golf and..............
Thanks for your picks and weighting wahz. I have a chart that supports today as being the local bottom. Twice recently we have had the local bottom seen with long tailed hammer candles. Today's sledge hammer looks very good.
ggg,
Fletch
Mish.........very sorry.
My dad passed just this past August.....He fell too and was living alone at the time.
Our time here is so precious,
Fletch
Hey Sam.......
If you ask me it's under valued but the large float holds it back. It can hit 5, 10 or even 20 if we get a tulip buying gold session <ggg>. I'm in it longer term as we are in a longer term gold bull market right now. 420 is the next ST target....fasten your set belts.......
Fletch
Hey Zeev,
A few to ponder.......I know you don't follow them......should you?
Fletch
