The Yankees announced today (Sunday) that they have signed seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens to a Minor-League contract.
The 44-year old Clemens made 19 starts with the Houston Astros in 2006, posting a 7-6 record with a 2.30 ERA and 102 strikeouts (113.1IP, 89H, 34R, 29ER, 29BB). He signed a one-year contract with the Astros on May 31, 2006 after going 13-8 with a career-best 1.87 ERA in 32 starts with Houston in 2005. 2006 was the 10th consecutive season that Clemens has posted a winning record, and he has now done so in 21 of his 23 Major League seasons.
The 11-time All-Star owns a career record of 348-178 with a 3.10 ERA. His 348 wins rank eighth in Major League history, 13 behind Pud Galvi and Kid Nichols (361) for seventh place on Baseball's all-time list. Clemens' .662 career winning percentage trails only Lefty Grove (.680) and Christy Mathewson (.665) among all-time pitchers with at least 300 wins, and his 21 seasons with a winning record while starting at least 15 games are the most in baseball history.
With 4,604 career strikeouts, Clemens is one of only four pitchers in Major League history to have reached the 4,000 strikeout milestone. He ranks second on baseball's all-time list behind Nolan Ryan (5,714). Clemens ranks second among all-time Major League pitchers with 172 career strikeouts in the postseason, behind only Atlanta's John Smoltz (194). He leads all active Major League pitchers in wins, strikeouts, games started (690), innings pitched (4817.2), complete games (118) and shutouts (46).
Originally acquired by the Yankees prior to the 1999 season from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Homer Bush, Graeme Lloyd and David Wells, Clemens was a member of two Yankees World Championship teams in 1999 and 2000. On June 13, 2003 at Yankee Stadium, he became only the 21st pitcher in Major League history to reach the 300-win milestone, while also recording his 4,000th career strikeout in a 5-2 victory vs. the Cardinals.
The winner of an unprecedented seven Cy Young Awards, Clemens was most recently honored as the National League's best pitcher in 2004 with the Houston Astros. He also earned the Cy Young in the American League in 1986, 1987 and 1991 with the Boston Red Sox, 1997 and 1998 with Toronto, and 2001 with the Yankees. In 2004, he became the oldest pitcher in history to earn the Cy Young and is one of only four pitchers to win the Cy Young in both leagues (also Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and Gaylord Perry). Clemens is the only pitcher to receive the honor with as many as four different teams.
Looks like YO stepped away from the pc...L2 is short for Level 2 where everyone looks to see the shares being traded, their quantities, times and buy and sell orders being executed. There is other technical information as well. I'll let the others continue...

The Vatican Library
Books for Popes and Scholars
The popes had always had a library, but in the middle of the fifteenth century they began to collect books in a new way. Nicholas V decided to create a public library for "the court of Rome"--the whole world of clerics and laymen, cardinals and scholars who inhabited the papal palace and its environs. He and Sixtus IV provided the library with a suite of rooms. These were splendidly frescoed, lighted by large windows, and furnished with elaborate wooden benches to which most books were chained. And, unlike some modern patrons, the popes of the Renaissance cared about the books as well as about the buildings that housed them. They bought, borrowed, and even stole the beautiful handwritten books of the time. The papal library soon became as spectacular a work of art, in its own way, as the Sistine Chapel or Saint Peter's. It grew rapidly; by 1455 it had 1200 books, 400 of them Greek; by 1481, a handwritten catalogue by the librarian, Platina, showed 3500 entries--by far the largest collection of books in the Western world. And it never stopped growing, thanks to bequests, purchases, and even, sometimes, military conquests.
From the start, the library had a special character. It included Bibles and works of theology and canon law, but it specialized in secular works: above all, the Greek and Latin classics, in the purest texts that the popes and their agents could find, for the popes and their servants saw these as the most powerful source of knowledge and counsel that the world possessed. The Vatican Library, in fact, became a center of the revival of classical culture known as the Renaissance. Its librarians were often distinguished scholars. Historians and philosophers, clerics and magicians visited the collections and borrowed books from them. By 1581, when the French writer Michel de Montaigne visited Rome, the treasures of the Vatican had become a mandatory stop on any well-informed traveller's Roman itinerary. To his delight, Montaigne was shown ancient Roman and ancient Chinese manuscripts, the love letters of Henry VIII, and the classics of history and philosophy (many of which can be seen in this exhibition). Then, as now, the Vatican Library was one of the greatest in the Western world.
The manuscripts and printed books that came to rest in the Vatican Library tell many stories. They help to explain the development of Renaissance thought and art, scholarship and science, in Rome and elsewhere. They shed light on the history of the universal Roman church and on the city in which it flourished, on the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter-Reformation--even on the history of Western efforts to understand and convert the peoples of the non-Western world. They describe the new education, art, and music of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries; they show how the curia reached beyond the bounds of Europe, to the Islamic world and even to China; and they reveal some of the conflicts that flared up when the accomplishment of church policy and the pursuit of new knowledge could not both be carried out.
Sorry FD7, for some reason I thought you were in San Diego (SD)...
Best to you.
Cousin Michael is on leave from FDNY and taking care of my fatherinlaw battling Mulitple Myeloma. We're having a pretty tough time watching Poppy(my kids Poppy)slowly shrink before our very eyes each week. We are so grateful to Michael for coming to California to stay at the house and care for my wifes father. It is pretty nice to have a Fireman/Paramedic "in the house" everyday.
Thanks for all your work..
and in keeping with ON TOPIC...lol
SLAP that ETIM A$K !!! every chance you get...LMAO
Say hi to your pup !
Thank you for your compliments to basser..lol He is a very special man. In fact, Thanks Giving of 1976 basser taught me how to drive. Several years earlier, while he was serving in Vietnam my grandfather taught me how to fish in that same little town. When basser returned from overseas we fished in that very lake, road motorcycles, learned to shoot a rifle, fished in the canals and celebrated life with our somewhat large family.
Over 30 years later we as a family and a family that is very close and even larger have vested our resources together "as a group" at times. We have experienced some successes and some "significant loses" "together". We have adapted, improvised and overcome some big challenges. In previous years we have had fraud played against us that occurred at a very large scale. Many of us had our life savings lost in the wind. Basser and his wonderful wife (my Aunt) pretty much lost their home in that deal. To see them go through this was very difficult not to mention my household.
Through drive, discipline and dedication we have survived. When we first opened brokerage accounts and began to learn how to trade securities we were somewhat burned out on the investment thing. When I discovered Eternal Image I must admit I was apprehensive to mention it to any in our group. Each of us was doing our own thing and own DD by then. I did not want to, well you know be a part of someone elses possible loss..I realize the ethic of doing your own DD and how important it is especially when.."family" is concerned.
One day I went and mentioned it to basser1 because I was so thrilled with what I had discovered. So he and I began the journey the same month (10/06) We have been able to invest over the past 7 months. Our investment has grown "significantly" since then. What a blessing to be a part of this company and its even better when I see my family smile. There of course are more family members on board but is taken a little time before others invested. So here we are again....Vested together and winning.
So we're cruising along with you and all here on this ride. Welcome aboard mate ! And thank you for taking us on your journey!!!
iknowaguy~
May a little Luck always be with you.
When JP stated in the CC that we would have the AFs on or "before" May 30 I am sure he meant it. He from what I can tell is a person of integrity and thus far has a reputation of being "early" in meeting goals, hence "watch out" cause they are going to be here before you know it... and as far as being concerned about share structure and AF results..I'm not...I'm already vested heavily here and while we are still pink I will not use the traditional fundamentals that one typically uses in order to make a decision on whether to buy or sell a security, cause if I started using those fundies completely I would have never bought ETIM or any other Pink Sheet Security.. I beleive we should be more careful on how we try to mix big board fundementals with pink sheet companies. I like Eternal Image for its potential, originality, product, market and future. Not because I like the share structure or the money on their books for the past 3 years (cause there isn't any...lol) So to ALL of us..ask yourselves why you bought ETIM in the first place. For me it wasn't so I could sell it at the end of May of 2007...cause thats just the beginning..
TFN, SB 383....Nice post'(s) !! Good morning all.. Now check this out....iknowa For that soon to be International Eternal Image....

The final pick in the Israel Baseball League draft was Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax. The Modi'in Miracle chose the legendary Jewish pitcher, who famously refused to start Game 1 of the 1965 World Series because it fell on Yom Kippur. Koufax was one of the most dominant pitchers of the 60s and retired from baseball unexpectedly in 1966 at the age of 30.
"It's been 41 years between starts for him," said Miracle manager Art Shamsky. "If he's rested and ready to take the mound again, we want him on our team."
The 71-year-old Koufax was a six time All-Star, threw four no-hitters, won three Cy Young Awards and can probably still uncork a decent fastball.
Big stick
Manny Ramirez, on Tuesday, became the 14th Major Leaguer to garner 1,000 hits with two different teams when he reached a grand with the Boston Red Sox. Ramirez posted 1,086 knocks with the Cleveland Indians from 1993-2000. The Sox outfielder joins the likes of Jake Beckley, Joe Cronin, Carlton Fisk, Jimmie Foxx, Frankie Frisch, Tris Speaker and Joe Torre in the double-grand club.
Iron will
Monday marked the 68th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's last game. The New York Yankees icon and future Hall of Famer played his final game in the Majors on April 30, 1939, against the Washington Senators going 0-for-4. Gehrig, who was suffering from undiagnosed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), asked manager Joe McCarthy to drop him from the lineup for the club's next game on May 2, ending his consecutive games streak at 2,130. When he played his last game, Gehrig ranked second to former teammate Babe Ruth in career homers with 493 -- today he ranks 21st. According to David Vincent of "The Home Run Encyclopedia," the top 10 home run hitters on the day the "Iron Horse" played in the Majors for the last time were (* -- career homers on 4/30/1939; # -- final total):
Player, HRs*, HRs#, Current Rank
Babe Ruth, 714, 714, 3rd
Lou Gehrig, 493, 493, 21st
Jimmie Foxx, 431, 534, 14th
Mel Ott, 344, 511, 19th
Rogers Hornsby, 301, 301, 113th
Al Simmons, 299, 307, 106th
Chuck Klein, 280, 300, 114th
Cy Williams, 251, 251, 175th
Goose Goslin, 248, 248, 178th
Hack Wilson, 244, 244, 186th
All in one
Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies executed a baseball rarity on April 29, when he turned an unassisted triple play. Tulowitzki is just the 13th Major Leaguer and the eighth shortstop to record three outs on one play all by himself.
The triple killing came in the seventh inning against the Atlanta Braves in Denver. Tulowitzki caught a line drive off the bat of Chipper Jones, stepped on second to double off Kelly Johnson then tagged out Edgar Renteria, who was running from first. It all happened so quickly the shortstop wasn't sure he'd made all the requisite outs, so he stepped on second again then threw the ball to first baseman Todd Helton just in case.
Unfortunately, Helton, without thinking, tossed the ball into the stands as he usually does at the end of an inning, depriving his teammate of a souvenir of his once-in-a-lifetime play. The first baseman treated Tulowitzki to lunch the next day to make up for his gaffe. On Monday, a Denver talk show host claimed he caught the ball, but video of the play includes no shots of Helton tossing the ball into the stands or of the fan who caught it.
Loyal retainer
Closer Trevor Hoffman set a new big-league record when he made his 803rd appearance for the San Diego Padres on April 28. The all-time saves leader set the mark for most appearances by a pitcher for one Major League team. Hoffman broke a tie with Walter "Big Train" Johnson of the Washington Senators and Elroy Face of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The five pitchers who appeared in the most games for one club are (* -- through Wednesday):
Pitcher, Team, Appearances
Trevor Hoffman*, Padres, 804
Walter Johnson, Senators, 802
Elroy Face, Pirates, 802
Phil Niekro, Braves, 740
Mariano Rivera*, Yankees, 729
Masquerade
Five fans in the left-field pavilion at Dodger Stadium are wearing wolf masks every time Randy Wolf starts for Los Angeles. Paul Hagen of the Philadelphia Daily News reports the tradition began at old Veterans Stadium and continued at Citizens Bank Park when Wolf plied his trade for the Philadelphia Phillies. The idea originated with Wolf's former Pepperdine University teammate Micah Weathers. In order to continue the tradition at Chavez Ravine, though, Weathers had to get special permission from the Dodgers because the club usually prohibits the wearing of masks in the stands at their home park.
Roaming the outfield
It looks like Josh Hamilton is a keeper. The Cincinnati Reds outfielder finished April leading all National League rookies in homers, RBIs, total bases and slugging percentage. The Reds acquired Hamilton in the offseason when they persuaded the Chicago Cubs, in exchange for cash, to pluck Hamilton out of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays system in the Rule 5 Draft, then trade him.
Hamilton recently demonstrated his versatility when he became just the 10th player since 2004 to play all three outfield positions in one game. Reds manager Jerry Narron moved him around the outfield in a series of late-inning double switches during a 10-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on April 24. The rookie started the game in center field, moved to left in the eighth and to right in the ninth. The only Major Leaguer who made circuits of the outfield more than once in the last four seasons was Damon Hollins, who did it twice for the Devil Rays in 2005. The 11 times since 2004 one player rotated through all outfield positions in one game were (* -- didn't start game):
Date, Team, Player (Sequence)

For all those who love the big fly, Potomac Books has just released David Vincent's new opus entitled: "Home Run: The Definitive History of Baseball's Ultimate Weapon." Vincent, who co-authored "The Home Run Encyclopedia" in 1996, further illuminates the history and tradition of the round-tripper in his newest work.
Deal or no deal
Time Warner and Liberty Media are trying to close a deal for the Atlanta Braves before a provision in the federal tax code changes on May 17. Major League owners need to approve the deal, which would send the Braves, a group of magazines and tons of money to Liberty in exchange for Liberty's huge block of Time Warner stock.
Major League Baseball's quarterly meeting is scheduled for May 16-17 in New York, and the companies must complete the complex deal by 11:59 p.m. ET on May 16 in order to reap the tax benefits in the current code. A delay could significantly reduce the amount of cash and stock changing hands and make it less attractive for both parties.
A fan to the end
Red Sox baseball is an essential part of life, and death, in the Northeast, as noted by Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. Cafardo spotted an obituary in the Portland Press Herald (Maine) last week that began: "Shirley Elizabeth Zeegers, 79, of Fort Pearce, Fla. and Oxford, Maine, died Sunday evening between the third and fourth consecutive home runs of the night by her beloved Red Sox. Some suspect she may have had an influence in the fourth home run."
The Red Sox hit four homers in a row on April 22 to defeat the New York Yankees, 7-6, and sweep their series with the Bronx Bombers.
Around the Horn
Tony La Russa became just the fourth manager in Major League history to lose 2,000 games when the Cardinals lost on Monday. On the positive side, La Russa has registered the third-most managerial victories in the bigs. ... When Mariano Rivera recorded the first save of the season for the Yankees in the team's 22nd game, it was the longest a team had gone without a save at the start of a campaign since the 1986 Tigers -- the 1975 Orioles set the record by going save-less in their first 58 contests.
According to "Great Baseball Feats, Facts and Firsts," the new book by Scott Flatow and David Nemec, Curt Schilling became the first big-league pitcher to record his 3,000th strikeout before issuing his 700th walk. ... Derrek Lee of the Cubs led the Majors in doubles in April with 14. ... Setup man Brian Shouse has stranded all 16 runners he's inherited this season, but the rest of the Brewers bullpen has allowed 18 of 25 inherited men to score. ... The Rockies have already used 19 different pitchers this season. Last year, they used just 16 before the All-Star break. ... Bobby Cox is moving up: the Braves skipper needs just seven more wins to pass Sparky Anderson (2,194) for fourth place in managerial victories and just five more ejections to pass John McGraw (131) for the all-time lead in that category.
Lance Berkman of the Astros, Chipper Jones of the Braves and Jose Vidro of the Mariners are the only active switch-hitters with 3,000 or more plate appearances who have career batting averages of .300 or better. ... Royals batters set a new franchise record for the month of April by getting hit by pitches 20 times -- the old club mark was 18 set in 2004. ... Through Wednesday, Miguel Tejada needed to play in 10 more games to pass Billy Williams (1,117) for the fifth-longest consecutive game streak in Major League history. ... Through Wednesday, Mike Scioscia needed one more victory to become the Angels' winningest manager -- Bill Rigney (625 wins) holds the mark. ... With his next win, Mark Buehrle will join Red Faber, Joe Horlen, Ted Lyons and Ed Walsh as the only White Sox pitchers to post their first 100 wins with the team.
Frank Thomas is just five homers away from breaking Edgar Martinez's record (243) for most homers by a designated hitter. ... The Reds plan to retire uniform number 13 in honor of former shortstop Dave Concepcion. The three other Reds who wore the number were Eddie Miller (1946), Eddie Pellagrini (1952-53) and coach Ray Shore (1966-67). ... Eric Chavez joined Jason Giambi as the only other player to both homer and make an error on their bobblehead day. Chavez accomplished the feat on April 28, while Giambi did it on September 13, 2003. ... Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer went 6,887 days between his second career double in 1988 and his third on April 29 of this year. ... Hideki Matsui needs six more hits to become the 46th member of Japan's "Golden Players Club," the members of which must have 200 wins, 250 saves or 2,000 hits. Matsui had 1,994 career hits through Wednesday between the Japanese and American Majors.
In his five-year career, Mark Prior of the Cubs has been on the disabled list nine times. ... The New York Mets lead the Majors in hitting. The last NL team to lead the bigs in hitting for an entire season was the 2001 Rockies. ... Former Major Leaguer Carl Everett is planning to play for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. ... On Wednesday, the Yomiuri Giants became the first franchise in the Japanese Major Leagues to record 5,000 victories. ... Thursday marked the 71st anniversary of Joe DiMaggio's big-league debut. In his first game, the "Yankee Clipper" started in left, batted third, went 3-for-6 with a triple and two singles, scored three runs and drove in one against the Browns.

Cardinals pay respects to fallen friend
Hancock's good nature remembered at memorial service
By Daniel Berk / MLB.com
TUPELO, Miss. -- Josh Hancock's sister, Katie, may have said it best -- somewhere, Josh is probably still laughing.
Then again, that was his favorite thing to do. Whether it was at his younger sister, his teammates or his parents, Hancock was a laugher. And he loved to make other people laugh with him.
That was one the many messages conveyed to hundreds in attendance at First United Methodist Church in Tupelo, Miss., where nearly an hour-long memorial service took place to remember the life of the Cardinals pitcher who was killed in an auto accident in St. Louis on Sunday.
Hancock was remembered as a funny, easygoing, loyal teammate, friend and family member.
Each person that spoke at the service talked about Hancock's fun personality and shared stories of him from all ages of his life. One thing that was common, no matter who was speaking, was Hancock's deep-voiced giggle that could bring a smile to just about anyone's face.
Cardinals pitcher Randy Flores spoke on behalf of the team and shared some insight as to what type of guy Hancock was on the road, in the clubhouse and on the field. Flores shared a few stories and talked about how Hancock was his throwing partner on the team, and how the two of them had thrown to each other every day from Spring Training 2006 until the day before Hancock passed.
Hancock routinely gave Flores a hard time on his throwing motion and used to tell Flores he looked more like a toddler than a grown man. Flores once asked if Hancock was mad at him, to which the reliever had an answer that Flores will never forget.
"He used to say, 'Oh Flo, you're too bad to be mad at. Let's do it again tomorrow,'" Flores said. "He loved what he did. He loved being a baseball player. He loved this team. One of the great things about being a ballplayer is you can act like a kid."
Flores also talked about a moment he shared with Hancock's family before the service. The family and members of the Cardinals looked at a photo from last season's World Series celebration, with most of the members already in a dogpile celebrating the win, Hancock was one of the last players to join his teammates, running with his arms in the air and a huge smile on his face.
"That's something I'll remember for the rest of my life," Flores said.
Katie Hancock spoke as well and also had numerous funny stories to share with the audience. She talked about how, when the two were younger, she wanted to ride a horse after Josh had earlier in the day. He said OK, and told her he had a perfect horse.
The fun-loving guy he was, Josh came back with a baby calf and put his younger sister on it, gave it a tap and off they went.
Katie Hancock talked about all the lessons her older brother taught people throughout his life.
"He taught us how to follow our dreams," Katie Hancock said. "He taught my dad to be a best friend. He was a great man."
Others that spoke included one of Hancock's high school coaches, Cas McWaters, his agent, Bo McKinnis, and the scout that signed Hancock to his first professional contract with the Red Sox, Joe Mason.
Mason, who is currently a scout with the Brewers, said Hancock would have been Dizzy Dean's right-hand man in the Gas House Gang because he was such a fun guy.
"He tried to make people laugh and fit in no matter what level they were in," Mason said. "He was always doing something for someone else. Every day was a good day for him."
All of the speakers mentioned how Hancock always talked about how proud he was of Katie and his brother, Jon-Jon.
Hancock's father, Dean, met with members of the media before the service and talked about how much Hancock loved playing for the Cardinals. The elder Hancock wore a red ribbon on his suit jacket pinned across a mini Cardinals jersey with Hancock's No. 32.
"Professional baseball players are brothers within a family, and the St. Louis Cardinals players and coaches are bonded together, in my opinion, like no other family in baseball," Dean Hancock said. "Josh was so proud to be a part of that family."
The Cardinals charted a plane and arrived at the church shortly after 1 p.m. CT. No member from the team spoke to the media before or after the service. General manager Walt Jocketty and other members of the front office were also in attendance.
Hancock was in his second season with St. Louis and had posted a career record of 9-7 in seven Major League seasons. He made 70 appearances with the Cardinals.
The right-handed reliever was a part of the Cardinals' run to the World Series and pitched 77 innings in the 2006 championship season. This season, Hancock had made eight appearances and pitched 12 2/3 innings.
Hancock was laid to rest on Wednesday outside Marietta, Miss., in Itawamba County in a private funeral for family and close friends.
"Normally, most families in our situation would be grieving anonymously, supported by family and friends within their communities," Dean Hancock said. "But Josh belonged to a much larger community. It is our good fortune to be getting strength from prayers, thoughts and encouragement, not only from our friends and family here, but from people throughout the nation.
"We have received so many calls and notes from total strangers telling us something wonderful about Josh. He was a great son, friend and teammate."
