I hear ya' brew. Wish it were sooner too.
Waiting buddy.... waiting.
;)
Doc...
It's a first for smartcodes appearing and being used in a public promotion via cellphone in the US. Not necessarily a super big deal when considering everything else that has already happened... but still a first, and that's the point of the PR from where I see it. It is a small thing in and of itself.
As you rightly notice, there have been many other promotions using the concept, from Mobot's work with Ellegirl and Starbucks, to our partners across the pond using 2D barcodes, to everything in Japan...
Really not much difference except for
- 2D smartcodes
- In the US
- Linked via cellphone for public participation
Right on JP!
Come on guys... think about it...
ANY product must begin somewhere. Qode MUST go through at least one real life test before they can allow it to be utilised by major clients. It's the only sensible thing to do!
If there are any glitches that need to be worked out, would you rather Neom sorts them out with Pepsi??? Or would you rather a local newspaper quietly do the job.
The fact that they PR'ed this is not so much to advertise the promotion itself, but to announce that this is the FIRST TIME in the US that 2d codes have been featured in an ad.
This is a little piece of history folks.
Where I come from... they'll knock off the authentication methods too ;)
And keywords are only a small part of the equation!
What's the status of Google's patents for linking Barcodes and RFID to the internet?
SA
Or possibly the same word by geographical location?
>NeoMedia could be charging a fee for the Word 'Chocolate' in 9 different languages >from 9 different Brand Partners, or a combination thereof.
Hahaha... Not for a second YJ!
Gotta' know the tech implicaions of what's out there though, especially as it applies to real world applications.
Our exchange was only one side of the dilemma... Having .mobi resolve itself automatically on mobile devices is good ONLY if you know the exact address you want!
Now if you're searching on a moile device.. THAT's a different story. And that's where we come in.
It does't matter if it's 500 address or 5000.... although 1% of every barcode out there still raises a smile on my face.
...but does P&G have 500 .com's now?
>"....but if you're P&G with say 500 .mobi's, which one will it resolve?"
...unless mobile devices automatically resolve any site entered as .mobi by default
Soxy... MMS has been ready for some time! It's just that few folks want to spend all that extra cash using it.
OT: Maybe that's the next question for the Starbuck's Challenge!

Landon Kearns... the guy knows his video streaming...
Remember that phone Nokia launched in Early August?
OT Lol... and who the heck is that "News International" media group that Sponge works with... I bet they're not a subsiduary of anyone important...
Certainly an interesting theory...
A lot of business gets done that way in my neck of the woods.
And remember... If everyone is expecting Qode to be perfected and already launched, why has a competitor not released a fully functioning, perfected system??
Even in regions where Neomedia's patents do not apply apply this has NOT happened.
Those aren't dots.
Those are thick marker lines for anyone who knows how this industry works.
Great find!
Sean buddy... the possibilities ARE endless.
Now throw RFID into the mix and start stretching your brain 10 years into the future.
Have fun, and remember to take regular breaks.
Blacky...
You should not be in the habit of trusting strangers on an internet forum.
However..
Rest assured that while John and Jill Public may not know about your 'phenomenon', the important who are about to set the wheels in motion people DO know.
You can take that to the bank.

Wow.
This is so good for us.
Think about it... If you were a Scanbuy lawyer, why not post your arguments in a forum where multiple counter arguments will come freely from intelligent and concerned folks. How nice to be able to check all the angles and make your case a little tighter... Hm?
Is it possible that engaging bashers equals feeding information to the defendant?

Try 15 billion.. :P
But streetstylz..
Neomedia will never land a big client like McDonalds or Taco Bell...
Oh wait.. hang on...
From Google's Mobile (.mobi) site
"Search the Web – At the supermarket and need to find the ingredients for thai curry? Just query "thai curry ingredients" on your phone's Web browser to search through more than 8 billion pages for the recipe that will wow your taste buds."
8 billion pages at the supermarket??
Faster for me to just fly to Krabi...
Single McDonalds outlets would not mount campaigns individually, rather, they would be implemented over market segments.
Maybe it's because McDonalds is only a tiny European company based in Portugal.
Claw... you definately 'get it'
Or we sit tight until RFID kicks in...
All the best,
SA
By consumers, do you mean the end users or the clients?
I am witnessing a reasonable amount of interest from the latter growing.
Nice news this morning.
I have three Asian plays in the consumer goods trading sector with Africa and the Middle East From what I'm seeing in those markets, it's great for us to be there now.

OT: Just looking at those posters in the background...
The concept/design is starting to look quite sexy. Some nice work being done behind the scenes there. Hoping the website get's a good overhaul soon!

We'd actually be up to #10,021
Check YOUR facts mate.

Musing for the day.
Imagine if people posted only what they knew for fact.
We would only be up to post # 10,000.
JMHO

Seeclear? You truly do.
Bonza!
I wonder if Australia knows a little more than it's letting on!

By "Pushing", the mobile company sent messages over the Chinese New Year Period to 300,000 people without their permission.
Every person who received a message was charged $1 on their phone bill.
Every major telco partner severed ties and their liscence was suspensed by the regulating authorities.
Though it was claimed to be an 'accident', within 36 hours, a multi million dollar public company was effectively out of business and all of their clients who relied on their platform (I for one) was left stranded.
SA.
Pull will be everything.
I have just finished about a month of cleanup after a vendor of mine (not unsimilar to HipCricket) decided to push 300,000 SMS unsolicited at $1 a pop in Feb.
Want to know how many angry people there were?
Want to see how fast telco's will drop a client?
Folks, NEOM is in the right place.
