We keep hearing that managers are chasing performance. I guess so, but how much chasing can be going on if new highs are not expanding?
Zeev, getting close to 1500, 90% upside volume, and the markets are yawning off a hijacking. Where's your cash position?
A.
Zeev, with a confluence of forcast turn dates next week and so many (too many?) looking for a major top, have you, at 32 percent cash, begun to lean toward a short squeeze?
A.
Nearly ninety percent upside volume and P/C is...rising?
Zeev, why on earth (actually, it belongs on a shingle) is BRKS so strong?
A.
Zeev, just my luck. I've learned my lesson. Never try to initiate purposeful discourse about semis or bios while dc and TR are jabbing at you. (g)
In the calm of morning, noble farmer, can you suggest potential tops for either the SOX or BTK?
A.
Zeev, for those who wish to avoid stock-specific risk, do you have upside/downside targets for SMH and BBH?
Thank you,
A.
George, if you don't mind my asking, which are your favorite gold plays?
TIA,
A.
Um, I don't want to ALARM ALARM ALARM anyone, but did a poster called Jon Lebed make an appearance last night?
Rich, for how long should those lows hold?
A.
Zeev, do you have a Maginot line for the dollar? Or do we wait for a now-expected European rate cut to set the floor, if it will?
A.
Zeev, as a bear, doesn't the steepening P/C ratio bother you? Lots of bearishness, falling volume, the indices hanging tough; what's wrong with this picture?
A.
Zeev, any feel for how high we can bounce before we whoosh lower?
A.
Mlsoft,
Tonelessly, as used, what does "whips and chains" mean?
A.
Zeev, can you weigh in on AJTJ's call for a huge selloff?
TIA,
A.
Zeev, per your model, what is the likeliest window for a fullfledged "to the hills" cry?

Does anyone know MARK LEIBOVIT's current take? Thanks.
Zeev/others, why have we been getting extreme tick readings, positive and negative, on the NYSE but not the Nasdaq?
Thanks,
A
OJ, is there a level at which you expect the BTK to top out?
A.
mlsoft, with the understanding that there is not any blanket piece of advice to serve all investors, all sets of objectives, do you have any personal rules of thumb for asset allocation in bear market phases?
Oh, and since I used the p word, are we in phase one or phase two? To my thinking the question invites distinguishment between old economy and new--which itself is evidence of how profoundly unhealthy things are.
Finally (yup, a hat trick of sleepless nuisance), how aggressively do you position yourself at perceived intermediate term lows?
You, sir, would be wise to discourage me. -g-

Matt,
A quick question: How does one delete a post?
Thanks,
A.
m-l-soft. That's an l? Dangit. I need glasses. I don't want to be a foureyes.
Seeing as how you nailed the high, what are your takes on the coming low and the balance of the year? Leadingly, my haphazard reading keeps pointing to November 7, just after elections, as an important turn or retest. If turn dates even enter into your approach, does this dovetail with your outlook?
Regards,
A.
Zeev, I have been watching your favored sentiment indicators. VXN is up 1. The Naz trin is barely above .25. That does not seem at all right. What does it mean?
A.
Zeev,
It seems that many of the four-letter stocks which you regard as strong candidates to make new highs--COCO, INVN, USPI--are far removed from the tech old guard. Does it follow that you are more constructive on the Dow than the Naz Comp at this time?
aldaka
Zeev, do you have handy ballpark figures for the foreign dollars which have left our markets or the total dollars which have moved from stocks to bonds? These pieces of the puzzle go curiously underreported.
Thanks,
A.
Misoft, as you have mentioned a former life as a broker, did the oldtimers ever speak of antecedents to the PPT?
While I am inclined to agree with those looking for a down September, I have to imagine that Wall Street will do anything and everything to produce/maintain higher year over year prices at points after the eleventh. This would be a great marketing device; a validation of buy and hold, a comfort to investors who want to believe that a nebulous quantity called 'it' always comes back. Would work out nicely for officeholders running for reelection and fund managers who want to dump losers in October, too.
Is there a rate cut in our near future?
A.
Thank you, George.
George, did Saville indicate an exhaustion date or price level for the rally?
A.
Zeev, the lack of expansion in new highs reflects the diminished presence of momentum investors. Once the last panicky short covers, there is not anyone left to propel a stock still higher. "They" do not mark up their own inventory; they engineer moves in the futures and induce saps to chase.
There are plenty of bears around--true believers, too--but hereabouts, few who will fade your calls AND announce it. The Great Man, it has been well-documented, has a memory like an elephant and a Sicilian"s appetite for revenge. -vbg-
Can an organic rally form and hold on the heels of PPT monkey business?
Reformatting the thread would be tantamount to mass moderation.
A.
Zeev, are you raising cash or staying the course? Is your allocation to stocks determined solely by your model, or do you give your instincts some leeway?
Still finding my voice, but I'm getting ready to make mischief.
A.
Is commercial solicitation kosher here in Turnipville?
Zeev, when you speak of sentiment, it is always tried and true measurables such as tick, trin, and put/call. What about Zeitgeist? Nine Eleven changed the world. How do, ahem, the turnips account for variables which defy quantification? Haven't you been forced to incorporate more seat-of-the-pants thinking into your forecasts?
A.
LG, does your work include turn dates? I have seen the 8th cited as a high. Any thoughts?
A.
Okay, people, I'm not too proud to repeat myself. -g- Will someone take a stab at the central question in post 11459? Um, grumble, thanks.
Zeev and others, I have a question about commissions. Illustrating with round, hypothetical numbers, why does it cost more to trade 10,000 shares of a $1 stock than 1,000 shares of a $10 stock? The broker I spoke to attributed this to the clearing house, but was robotically fuzzy. -g- Is the clearing house, or any other entity, really doing substantially more work? Also, the point went unraised, but would daily trading volume in the issue be a factor?
Thanks,
A.
Zeev, can you state your case for an imminent significant bottom, and not a retest of the lows? Apart from sharply decelerating volume on the selloff, I do not see great positives.
Glad you're back,
A.
Rich, as you seem to think highly of Carpino, I'm wondering if he ever entertains longer timeframes? Does he set year- or month-end targets? Are his macro calls couched in terms of dates or prices?
Any info you can share would be helpful.
Thanks,
a.
M., Bogle is one of the fathers of the bubble. What's more, the cycle of active money managers and momentum investors chasing after the passively managed money which flowed into index-fund components will be repeated in the next bull market.
