Metal infused spider silk super strong
By BEN HIRSCHLER
01:19, May 25 2009
http://www.stuff.co.nz/science/2360665/Metal-infused-spider-silk-super-strong
Spider silk is already tougher and lighter than steel, and now scientists have made it three times stronger by adding small amounts of metal.
The technique may be useful for manufacturing super-tough textiles and high-tech medical materials, including artificial bones and tendons.
"It could make very strong thread for surgical operations," researcher Seung-Mo Lee of the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle, Germany, said in a telephone interview.
Lee and colleagues, who published their findings in the journal Science, found that adding zinc, titanium or aluminium to a length of spider silk made it more resistant to breaking or deforming.
They used a process called atomic layer deposition, which not only coated spider dragline silks with metal but also caused some metal ions to penetrate the fibres and react with their protein structure.
Lee said he next wanted to try adding other materials, including artificial polymers like Teflon.
The idea was inspired by studies showing traces of metals in the toughest parts of some insect body parts. The jaws of leaf-cutter ants and locusts, for example, both contain high levels of zinc, making them particularly stiff and hard.
Spider silk has long fascinated scientists but producing it in commercial quantities is difficult because spiders kept in captivity tend to eat each other.
As a result, researchers have looked at alternative ways of producing silk without spiders, by duplicating their spinning technique.
Approaches being tried include deriving fibre from the milk of transgenic goats with an extra spider-silk gene and adapting silk produced by other insects, such as silkworms.

I learn something new today.
It why I come here. In hope to learn more about
the stock market. Thanks Truth for sharing your
knowledge about it. A shout out to Yankeeclipper,
Lebbe and you Truth. Thanks guys, for all your time
and effort. Yeah, you guys truly are Kongs. KBLB time
has come. :)
Wow, you said a mouth full. :)
Same here bro. Holding the Golden. )
It would be great if they can do that in a couple of months.
It has been a long road for kraig biocraft lab and no one
here on the message board has stated the reason why. Placing
the blame on someone without knowing the reason. Is foolish.
As Truth has said. It is what it is. :)
Check it out guys. KBLB could easily make suits like this.

Hello imelcooler,
Thanks for sharing. Good job. :)

Hello hopeabides,
I can agree with flippers being the largest part of selling kblb shares.
But for me, it more sense able to sell and pay bills than to sell for
short gain and lose out on greater profits. Which answer bananarama
question. " How can anyone be selling at a time like this?". Peace bro.:)
Hello bananarama,
I hope you are doing well. I get what you are saying. It is a good
opportunely that don't come around often and kblb could be once in
a lifetime chance to make a lot of cash. My guess is that
sometimes people have to sell what they got to pay the bills.
Peace bro.:)
Hello trainer2,
See ya at the winners circle. :)
Peace.:)
I own over 100,000 shares After about 10 years, I"m still here.
Why? I believe in the product and the Kongs. Wow, better days
ahead. Hope I will get to know some of board members. Bananarama,
I hope you are doing well. Peace, and good day everyone.
Wow! great finish for the day. 0.37
Vietnam signs today?
Peace Everyone.:)
Wow, nice finish today. Gotta let this bull run.
I'm glad to see Kraig biocraft lab getting started.
It been a long road for Kblb. It is an
amazing material that can be use in many fields.
Such as military , medical field , and construction.
The wildest idea I heard of is using this material to
make a space elevator. Image that, putting skycrapers in
outer space. I have follow this board for years. It been a
good place to stay up to date with kblb current events.
Thanks to everyone that bring news relatied to kblb. Darryl
Hello Truth,
It has been hard at time. But It will be well worth the wait.
I just wonder if the history our country has with Vietnam might
have been part the reason it took years to work out a deal.
Peace. :)
Wow!it so good to see Kraig biocraft Lab doing great. The mood in this room is great. Godbless the long and strong.:)

07/05/2019
Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (Company), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, announced today that, through its subsidiary Prodigy Textiles, the Company has signed a new 5 year lease on a factory, expanding its production footprint in Vietnam. The roughly 50,000 ft2 facility in Quang Nam province is expected to play a major role in supporting the Companys increasing production capacity of its proprietary recombinant spider silk technologies.
Our team in Vietnam, led by Mr. Kenneth Le, has done an excellent job of scouting, selecting, and negotiating the terms of this deal. With its close proximity to the necessary mulberry fields, and easy access to shipping ports, this facility will serve as a springboard for Kraig Labs’ introduction of spider silk into the global textile markets, said COO Jon Rice.
The Company expects to begin transferring its technology into the larger factory from the temporary facility that Prodigy Textiles has been utilizing since December of 2018.

I thought I had the jump on them today. Crap :(
My mistake, sorry for the false alarm.
Hello Everyone,
https://www.innovationintextiles.com/kraig-biocraft-laboratories-completes-first-batch-of-dragon-silk-for-us-army/
Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, a leading developer of spider silk based fibres, has completed the first batch of Dragon Silk cocoon production for its recently reported military contract. The fibres will soon be headed to a reeling facility to be prepared for delivery to Warwick Mills.
The company will contract Warwick Mills to produce ballistic shoot packs, for delivery to the US Army, based on the company’s Dragon Silk technology. The company is expected to make final delivery to the US Army in the second quarter of 2017.
For the past century, Warwick Mills has been a leader in the engineering of technical textiles for protective applications. Warwick develops and integrates complex fibre composites for the most challenging safety applications. Its core products include technical textiles, custom adhesives, and performance coatings.

Kraig Biocraft Set To Begin Production In Vietnam
June 13, 2018
Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Inc., Ann Arbor, Mich., has announced the formation of Prodigy Textiles Co. Ltd., a Vietnam-based subsidiary that has been granted an Investment Registration Certificate (IRC). In related news, Kraig Biocraft has obtained its Enterprise Registration Certificate (ERC) from the Vietnamese government, which grants the company permission to begin its spider-silk-based fiber production in Vietnam. The combination of the IRC and ERC licenses allows Kraig to commercialize the production of spider silk using an advanced silk production platform to fit within Vietnam’s existing traditional silk industry infrastructure.
“These licenses to operate in a traditional silk producing region are the most substantial milestones for Kraig labs commercial development since the creation of our first spider silk transgenics,” said Kraig Labs Founder and CEO Kim Thompson. “Our teams in the U.S.A. and in Vietnam have been working closely with officials in Quang Nam province and with central government ministries to bring this long-standing vision to reality.
“Our work to obtain these approvals has been driven by our goal of producing recombinant
spider silk on a large scale, which can only be achieved by harnessing the opportunities presented by existing large-scale silk production infrastructure,” added Thompson.

Spider silk could help build a better hearing aid. Here’s how
Spider Web© PHILIPPE HUGUEN/AFP/Getty Images Spider Web Hearing aids could one day get an upgrade with help from a spooky source: spiders spinning super-fine silk.
Humans hear through their eardrums, which sense pressure changes and tell the brain where a sound is coming from. But spiders actually use their hairs to detect the velocity of air to decipher sounds.
Engineers at Binghamton University harnessed those sound-sensing capabilities by taking spider silk, coating it in gold so it could conduct electricity, and incorporating it into a microphone, like those found in hearing aids. New research on the approach was published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
“The microphone consists of super-thin fibers that move with the air in a sound field,” said Ron Miles, a mechanical engineer at Binghamton University who created the microphone. “The fibers are driven by viscous forces in air, like those that cause tiny dust particles to float around in a slight breeze.”
Hearing aids work by taking pressure changes created by a noise, turning them into an electric audio signal, and translating that into a sound. The spider-inspired microphone operates in a different way: It takes movements in the air, rather than pressure changes, and converts them into audio signals that relay sound.
Another potential benefit of the new approach: It better processes low-frequency sounds that standard hearing aids aren’t good at picking up on, according to Miles.

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 30, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB:KBLB) (“Company”), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, announced that it is now working to create a set of new custom designed transgenic silkworms under its contract with the US Army. The Company is working with material performance objectives, defined by the customer, to develop entirely new genetically enhanced silkworm strains.
These new silk polymers will be evaluated against defined performance requirements and the best performing materials will be scaled up to produce upwards of 100kgs of silk thread. The Company expects the new strains to complement its record setting Dragon Silk fibers, but, with an eye on additional targeted applications, the fibers will be designed to generate even higher tensile strength. As a result, these new enhanced fibers should provide outstanding performance in protective textile applications.
“This project is an excellent opportunity for us to demonstrate the incredible potential and power of engineered silk,” said COO Jon Rice. “Tailoring the focus of our design efforts directly to a materials performance requirements is a perfect example of the amazing flexibility, and possibilities, of engineered proteins. These new transgenics will be the beginning of our Enhanced Tactical Fiber (ETF) line of materials. While a monumental moment for the Company, it is but one of many new and exciting opportunities for, spider silk, the Company, and our shareholders.”
To support this effort, the Company is hiring additional research and production staff and rapidly building out its in house lab capabilities at its Michigan based research and production center.
