the Mini and Intel
I don't disagree.....but
Apple has always, to my memory, artificially crippled the lower end in one way or another. That may be saying it in too strong a fashion, but here seems to have been some along those lines over the past few years.
If there are immediate advantages to the Mactel, I think it is less likely that lower range consumer products will get Intel first. Following that line of reasoning, the iMac and PowerBook scenario gets a leg up.
Ron
I don't think this will stand up in court either.
That's a shame.
Intel iMac and Powerbook in January - Appleinsider
Surprisingly, the most reliable information indicates that the iMac and PowerBook -- two of the company's most recently revised Mac offerings -- are targeted to be the first two Mac models to receive Intel processors in January. The iMac and PowerBook are also believed to be Apple's best-selling Mac models, which explains why the company will be upgrading them with Intel processors first and refreshing their associated product lines for the second time in as little as four months.
thanks lango. Not boring.
Not at all.
The theory of evolution does not reject the existence of God. That is nonsense, pure unadulterated nonsense.
What many of us do reject is the theology of the biblical inerrantists. With good reason a majority of Christians reject that.
ILA, don't worry about it. EOM.
I do not have the ability to delete posts on this or any other board. That requires the intervention of a moderator or the owners of the site.
OK I love you Apple
To set the record straight. I do not bash Christianity. I point out chalartans that I think are posing as christians - and not doing a terribly good job of it. In my opinion they are confidence men and women at worse and horribly mistaken at best.
I posted a thing about the discussion of a topic here on the board in a post that was light-hearted.
I do not think intelligent design has a place in science classes in public schools. It certainly has a place in the discussion of current events, in a study of political strategies, perhaps in some other topics. To say it belongs in science classes - well, the voters in Dover answered that one correctly, in my opinion.
Now, if the science class includes discussion of current events that are somehow related to science, then a critical view of ID could be used in the curriculum at the discretion of the teacher.
To think that the bozos on the Kansas Board of Education should infringe on what little academic freedom exists at the k-12 level is to replicate the Islamic schools in the United States - and our position on theocracy is more than clear and in the our Constitution.

Intelligent Board Design
My Ouija board says no, yes, maybe probably and no.
Fairly interesting article about the Mac side of Apple
But there's a bigger trend at play here. And Charles Wolf, a financial analyst at Needham & Co. in New York, discussed it in his latest research note on Apple. While downgrading the stock from to "hold" from "buy," based on the shares' recent price spike, Wolf noticed something else: a measurable surge in purchases of Macs by people who had previously been Windows users.
Wolf has created an interesting forecast model in which he assumes that 11% of Windows users who buy iPods also purchase Macs at the same time or soon afterward. The model also assumes that of these new Mac buyers most stick to the Mac platform and buy a second one when it comes time to upgrade. The conversions resulted in about a half million Macs purchased by Windows users in fiscal 2005. In all, Apple sold 4.5 million Macs in the period, vs. 3.3 million in 2004.
and
Hence, the strategic importance of these "switchers" -- as Apple once called them in a TV ad campaign -- to the future of the Mac platform. "The sad reality about the Mac market is that until the fourth quarter of last year, it had been shrinking," Wolf says. "Apple sold a million more Macs during the first three [calendar] quarters than it would have if it were only Mac users buying."
STOREFRONT SUCCESS. Pushing the model forward, Wolf projects that a growing number of Windows-to-Mac converts will propel Mac shipments from 3.3 million in 2004 to 12.8 million in 2014, by which time Apple's market share will effectively double, to about 4% from 2%.

Congrats Blue!!
Oh the experiences you will have!!
Have you bought the little tyke's first shares of AAPL yet? :).
I need a windows environment
Five or six days a week. I'd love a dual boot system. It has been a dream since the day of the CHRP.
If SAS once again develops/ports its most recent SAS System for OS X, if Apian software develops its software for OS X, I will no longer need a Windows environment
Ron
Bootz
You need some intelligent design, now available in Kansas and endorsed by none other than our President, that scholar, George W Bush.
Creeping theocracy, anyone?
TV content
Lango, are there some other options - like bought over a PC and watched on TV? I spent a night with friends in Santa Clara a couple of weeks ago - big time geeks, two couples who share a big house in Silicon Valley - two work for one big net company, two work for another big company whose stock price is approaching $400.
They were were putting the content from a laptop screen onto a 60 inch flat panel television - running it through a Mac Mini on the home wireless network, as I recall - it has a Video out port, does it not? Anyway, I may be wrong on how they did it, but it impressed me.
OT: JimisJim Many people who had unfortunate experiences did not follow the rules or know the laws.
They neglected to hire a reputable notario - an attorney who just does title searches and property transactions. Some acted as though it were a US real estate transaction without doing the research to know they needed a fideicomiso (bank trust) or a corporation.
In other words, they did not do enough DD. In some cases they relied on the unreliable. Did they get screwed? I dunno.
dilleet
I don't think you are missing anything :). Hope your ex thinks of you when thinking of AAPL.
Wolf's downgrage
What I hear him saying is that Apple is OK going forward contingent on one or two things.
Ms. Roni is back in - having sold at 60.60 and bought back at 61.51. Initial purchase of the batch sold was @ 51.20. We reviewed how much she has made from AAPL in the past two years, what some possible futures are and she wanted back in.
This is the woman who introduced me to (among other things) the Macintosh back in IIvx days.

OT applecider
Tom and I have different agendas :). I plan to sell out and move when I retire in a few years. People from CA think the housing is inexpensive here.
OT San Diego
Was really nice when I lived there in 1971-72. There are quite a few folks who have moved south of the border, into beautiful beach homes for far less money, and commute to work in San Diego every day.
Ron
re: Bressi Ranch
Ya'll oughta emulate many other Californians and move up here to Portland. Median house price is still below 275k :)
re: keeping her happy
Actually, her account has outperformed mine :).
Ron
Have some of that Gammon.
I like it cause it is opening a mine next quarter :).
Get Shorty
Altaire, you give me chuckles with these little sayings.
Long and strong, I assume *smile*
no stinking AAPL
She who owns the account advised me to take the profits :). I like to keep her happy.
Sold AAPL
at 60.60 (cost 51.20 on Oct 11). Not buying anything now. Holding PMs, nat gas, oil service, international bond fund and cash - about 17% cash.
Selling AAPL
I had taken a large position (relative to the size of one IRA account) in AAPL at the aforementioned price of $51.20. Just sold it at $60.60.
Pretty satisfying for a 3 week trade.
Elsewhere in the world, gold is up on US jobs news and oil service and nat gas have had a pretty good run the last short period of time.
May buy AAPL again between now and the end of November, but would like to see a fairly good pullback - in the 10-15% range anyway - before doing so.
U.S. nonfarm payrolls up 56,000
Job growth 'below trend' excluding Katrina, BLS says
By Rex Nutting, MarketWatch
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - U.S. job growth slowed in October even excluding the direct impact of two monstrous hurricanes, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday.

AAPL downgrade
Makes sense from at least one perspective.
Somtime on October 11 it was at 51.20. Dipped the next day after earnings, as I recall.
Closed yesterday at 61.84. That is a pretty fair 3 week run. Wring out some froth :).
What else is there to upgrade at MWSF?
The continued evolution of the Media Center.
Video content deals.
Blue, the
early part isn't due solely to my abilities as an investor - if it were I might be on the die at my desk plan :) - but between Apple and natural resources it has been a good two years. Even a broken clock and all that :)
Will Apple introduce
A mini based media box with a videoPod dock on its top this January?
I remember buying Apple in April 2003 - I think right after the announcement of 1 million songs sold via iTunes. Are we going to see a repeat performance after the million video announcement?
How many iPods will be sold to those who want PocketPorn?
Anyone order a new iMac yet?
RoniOnTopic
What a beautiful smiling day
for my IRA portfolio. Had several stocks up over 4% and so far, before 4 funds report, am up close to 4% overall - and 3 of four funds follow indices that are up between 1 and 3%.
Apple is up about 17% since we bought back into it at 51.20
There is, however, marital discord in my household. When we discuss early retirement, I say 3 years and she says 5 years. We both think retiring at 57 makes good sense, but we will be 57 in different years :).
In the words of Ram Dass "Haha hoho hehe"
At least we all love Apple *smile* eom.
OT: ILA
I am not even going to waste my time with your twisting and ignorance concering the Christian right, nor Christianity for that matter, as you havn't a clue to what your even try to talking about.
I'd say you don't know enough about me or my background to make any statements like that. FWIW, Jim Wallis is one evangelical who, IMO, comes far closer to getting it right than the legions of right-wingers who attempt to claim the Christian name. When the time comes, I predict their attempt will be less than successful. Course, I could be wrong :).
Ron
ILA OT:
You really do not have a clue do you. It surprises me, because I would expect someone who claims to be a Christian would expect higher ethical and public morality standards from our elected officials.
Truth is, that is not correct. The Christian right, radical and against core American values as they are, don't really care if our elected officials are liars - all they care about is that they support the same political positions that are dear to the hearts of the radical right wing.
It is not too late for you to repent and be saved. We'll be praying for you.
Ron
Making money on defects?
from appleinsider
Meanwhile, concerns over iPod nano and iPod video durability appear to be fueling sales of the company's AppleCare extended warranties, which were listed as the fifth most popular item.
OT: Ross Perot
On a program Sunday about the indictment a series of clips were shown about previous ethical/legal problems in various administrations. One of the clips was Ross talking about ethics. I apologize to all Ross lovers, but Ms. Roni and I just laughed out loud.
Good businessman, apparently. Successful. Funny as all get out just about everytime he opened his mouth :).
Ron
Unbelievable projections
Maybe unattainable also. Major retailers are prepping early Christmas promotions - wanting to get people to spend money before they get their first big heating bill.
The consumer is projected to be weak this winter. How much will it affect AAPL, if at all? I dunno, but it is a risk out there and to be considered.
We will be ok - building inspectors just approved the installation of our new high-efficiency heat pump and our wood burning fireplace insert. I moved and stacked a cord of oak this weekend and am ready for the mild winters we have here :).
Cost: Several iMacs and a handful of iPods - but that included new ductwork.
Fitzgerald under the gun to come up with something
I think you need to study Fitzgerald a bit more. Everything I have read and heard seems to indicate that he is relatively unaffected by that.
