Perhaps Silverton’s dormant mines wait only for another rise in metal prices to swing back into another boom cycle. Sadly, however, many of the big blocks of mining claims once owned by mining companies are now being piecemealed off and sold for cabin sites. So, it appears, San Juans’ last big boom most likely will be in real estate.
But wait! Looks like another minng boom is about to happen? Silverton and the San Juans are once again experiencing a resurgance of the mining industry now that the price of base metals is climbing—this time to meet demands in China and other growing companies. So, who knows, maybe all that realestate development will just have to wait.
Gold just waiting to be mined:
One of the strangest things to occur in the San Juans was the U.S. Government’s Gold Closing Order of 1942. It forced all gold mines to close, with the logic that gold was a non-strategic metal, and that gold miners could be better put to work in copper mines or other strategic industries. Silverton’s Mayflower Mine avoided forced closure when Manager Charles Chase was able to convince the government that the operation was predominantly a base metal (lead, zinc, copper) mine. Several other local mines, however, were shut down by this order.
Shenandoah-Dives Mining Company had revived the Mayflower Mine from dormancy in the late 1920s, and built the massive Mayflower Mill in 1929. Silverton’s biggest employer for over twenty-five years, the mine survived several fluctuations in metal prices, a major strike, and the Crash of 1929 that ushered America into the Great Depression. With low-grade ores, Manager Chase was able to keep the mine open by keeping costs down. The mine shut down in 1953 at the end of the Korean War, when metal prices fell due to lower demand for metals and increasing competition from foreign mines.
the people that I needed to speak with were out of town so as for time lines and the mood I don't really know I plan on calling John Ferguson this week all the people that I did talk to said that John is out at the mill every day doing stuff, I did notice that all of the buildings had approved permits on them .
I just got back from looking at the mill most of it looks just like the pic's we already have. They have been putting new electrical boxes and wireing. the mill was very clean as far as milla go Buckshot and myself looked at it on Thursday It starts with a jaw crusher then on to a short head crusher then its screened and re cycles short head until ore is small enough to got to the ball mills they have two in the ball mill the ore is crushed untill it's all about 8 times finer than beach sand. Then it will go to the floation cells, they had all been cleaned and greased and some seals and bearings had been changed out. From floation it goes into a big sluge tank where the heavy metal sink to botom to go to the smelter. So it was obvious that work is being done and ole windows had been replaced with new glass and they have a company moving overburden from where you dump ore into the mill and there covering up old tailing ponds. John Fergusion was out of town Thursday and cell phones were bad so I let him know that I'd try and call him latter next week. hope this helps out some.
thats how i do it buy on drops and when i first get in buy a little and add as it drops looking for a stop that way i get a good position. and then sell a few as it go'es up until I am holding free shares.
alot of green lets keep it going up like this long time waiting
some is short and will be getting long soon.

I'd call the the company you trade through and have them fix it. those symbols don't show up as any kind of compaines.
I know where the mines are at: I waas just wondering if there was any more info on whats up with the mill and possible mining. I also wrote to the company and have not herad back from them.
Burkhard: have you been in contact with any of the company about whats the stats of where they are at I picked up some on the lows and thought I might make a fishing trip over there to look around its a very cool patr of Colorado. a lot of gold and silver has been mined in that area. I hope you have'nt thrown in the towel here.
