i think you're just short a multiple of your initial position, 2 for 1 = 2x short position, but foward splits usually result in price appreciation so...

and sometimes it does nothing. I think it has to do more with the supply side of the market, basicaly, the tradable float, MM positions, short interest, dilution etc etc.

News usually creates the demand but the MMs have alot of power over how they "apply" that demand to the market(all of us have seen some pretty crazy L2 behavior). So without the supply side of a market being clear news doesn't mean much(atleast in a technical sense) imo..
