I think we'll see a rapid acceleration of video content available and a concurrent rapid acceleration of vPod sales and iTMS sales. Clearly Apple will make money on the Pods. I'd speculate that they will do all right on the video sales and that the myth of iTMS as a wash financially can be put to rest. I think it is a moneymaker.
Of course they have the computer business, the software business, the periperal business, the retail business........
MWSF is going to be interesting. I'll bet, though, that expectations will get ramped up beyond Apple's ability to meet them.
If there are no significant transition-to-Intel problems - in other words if Apple executes competently and if one can boot to a variety of OS's on them, I think there could be considerable upside.
But, Apple's competitors are not going to disappear. They will continue to lag behind, though. Cisco will emerge, perhaps, as a competitor and Desktop Linux will continue to improve and be a competitor as well.
I feel good.

Well, I took some profits in a couple of positions today
Selling parts of two precious metals holdings, but did not sell any AAPL.
About the Tivo thing: This from:
http://www.internetoutsider.com/
TiVo to iPod: Don't Go Overboard About Impact
A cool announcement from TiVo has the Journal speculating about an end to Apple's $1.99 TV-show downloads almost as soon as they began. After all, why would consumers pay for something they can get for free?
Answer: For the convenience. For the TiVo service to work, you have to 1) subscribe directly to TiVo (according to the Journal, 1.3 million people, 2) have your TiVo connected to your home network (some sub-set of the 1.3 million and probably a small sub-set), 3) buy the TivoToGo software (another sub-set), and 4) go through the steps required to get the program onto the TiVo, from the TiVo onto the computer, and from the computer onto the iPod--all so you can watch it with advertising on a screen 1/100th the size of the screen on the box you downloaded it from.
Which isn't to say that some people won't do it--of course they will. Especially if the networks don't get their acts together and make most/all of their content available on iTunes. And it also isn't to say that people don't want to watch TV on iPods--of course they do. School hallways and buses will soon be filled with kids catching up on what they missed the night before. But for a generation that thinks nothing of shelling out $40 a month for ridiculous ring-tones, spending $1.99 to have advertising-free copies of all the cool shows may seem a no-never-mind.
All of which IS to say that the death of network TV is probably being exaggerated, especially in light of last week's industry "research" suggesting that DVR users skip fewer ads than they purport to (definitely true in our household, where it's easy to forget you're watching TiVo) and even remember some of the ones they do fast-forward through.
AAPL stock valuation
How many vPods is Apple going to sell in the next 2 years?
I do not know, but I think we will continue to see expanded uses for it for some time. What if 10% if the pervs in the western world buy one? How many is that?
How much will Apple make from video downloads? Again, unknown, but it will grow rapidly, I think.
How many computers will Apple sell?
What new devices / modified devices / uses for current devices will be introduced in the next two years?
I don't know the answers to any of those questions. Heck, I don't even know what some of the questions are.
I do know that we've (Ms. Roni and I) have been making money hand over fist. Apple has been a part of that. I don't see any reasons right now to change our investments or our allocations. Investment-wise, life is very good.
RNC up 30% in past 5 trading days. eom.
OT: Pacific Crest raised Google to $500.
Law and Order is available also
My wife is a member of that cult :).
Apple said more than 3 million videos have been downloaded off iTunes since the format's debut on Oct. 12.
from a street.com article linked to on yahoo.
And that is with very limited content availability. Hmmmm.
So Bootzie
Didja go ahead and make those portfolio moves the other days - the ones that would have funded a few hundred shares of AAPL?
Thanks tomm. I added some, but now
I only see half the chart part of the window and no longer see the little i. Cannot find a way to easily resize the widget - seem not very intuitive. Cursor at the corners does not seem to do it. Can anyone tell me how to do that - have a couple of other indices I would like to add.
Cool stuff *smile*
So, how does one had ticker symbols to the stock widget?
Can't figure it out.
More Yamana - RNC news from Marrone. Does it seem consistent with your view of things/the properties after your visit, ammarksp?
TORONTO, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Tiny gold firm, Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) , expects to vault into the mid-tier leagues with a stock-exchange deal to buy RNC Gold Inc. (RNC.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) and the San Andres mine in Honduras.
Part of the motivation for Yamana's takeover deal, announced on Sunday, is RNC's acquisition of a 75 percent stake in San Andres, which it will be able to complete with an $18.9 million loan from Yamana.
San Andres, which is near the border of Guatemala, is touted as producing more than 70,000 ounces of gold a year.
"We think San Andres can justify the whole transaction," Peter Marrone, Yamana's chief executive, said on a call on Monday.
"We were quite harsh on the other assets when we looked at them. So we carved them back to pretty small values. San Andres is the asset here that generates the most value."
Yamana will exercise RNC's existing option to buy the other 25 percent of the mine before the deal closes and said it could still acquire the mine if the bid for RNC fails.
"Our view was that we are not in the business of loaning money to companies, we are in the business of buying assets and buying companies and so we do have the right to apply the loan proceeds toward the purchase of San Andres, even if the transaction does not complete," said Marrone.

Goldcorp announced acquisition
VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2005--Goldcorp Inc. ("Goldcorp") (TSX:G - News; NYSE:GG - News) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Virginia Gold Mines Inc. ("Virginia") (TSX:VIA - News) to acquire Virginia's Eleonore gold project pursuant to a plan of arrangement involving Virginia. The transaction will combine Goldcorp's operational and financial strength with Virginia's world class exploration asset, the Eleonore gold project in James Bay, Quebec.
"Eleonore is a unique and significant property located in the core of what Goldcorp believes is one of the most promising new gold districts in North America," said Ian Telfer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Goldcorp. "The incredible success that Virginia has had in the short time since discovery in late 2004, when combined with accessible infrastructure and a mining friendly regulatory environment, reinforce the quality of this asset. Of the 212 drill holes completed to date on the entire property, over 70% have reported assays greater than 10 grams of gold per tonne, and the principal Roberto deposit remains open in both strike and depth. Goldcorp plans to continue aggressive exploration and development on Eleonore, with resource and scoping studies to be initiated early in 2006."
"All of us at Virginia wanted to see Eleonore developed by a qualified and experienced mine development team and Goldcorp with their Canadian expertise is without any doubt one of the best in the industry," said Andre Gaumond, President of Virginia.
Based on the 10 day weighted average trading price for Goldcorp's common shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange of Cdn$24.70, the transaction values the Eleonore gold project at approximately US$420 million. Goldcorp will issue 19.6 million common shares pursuant to the transaction, representing approximately 5% of the 359.5 million common shares outstanding after giving effect to this transaction.

Country risks
I do not disagree with much of what you wrote, being somewhat of a cynic myself. I would suggest that relatively free and fair elections are only one metric, and I think getting a good handle on country risk requires more. Nonetheless, I have invested in regions with significant risks, but tend to be more conservative on that front now.
Venezuela has had free and fair elections for over 40 years, yet there seems to be a higher level of country risk there than in some places with a shorter history (or no history) of free and fair elections.
One could argue that some of the Middle East would have greater country risks if they had free and fair elections.
None of this refers directly to Nicaragua or to Honduras, I have not taken more than a very superficial look at those countries.
This Mighty Mouse
I kinda like it. Still getting used to it. Frequently when using the little ball to scroll in a browser, I end up being transported to a previous page. The right click think is nice, though.
Ron
This evening we fine gold up, silver up, oil up, nat gas up.....
Hope it holds hope while I am away in dreamland. A good December in the markets sure would be nice.
They will be well served, but, IMO, country risk in Brasil is not significantly higher than in other stable democracies.
And Mark - I said nothing about my current political leanings or support for governments in other countries. I would like to know how you leapt from my statement, quoted here:
I guess I still remember those Sandinista-Contra days, and for the record, I supported the Sandinistas at the time :).
With current support for the Sandinistas? Did you not read my post carefully?
Also, for the record, a mixed economy is, IMO, the best means to achieve sustainable and responsible economic development. See the USA and Canada for examples.
Best wishes
Ron
RNC - Yamana
It does sound like RNC is going inexpensively - but I like the political risk profile / stability of Brasil a lot better than the Central American countries where RNC has projects. I think I am more careful about country poltical and health risks than many precious metals investors who I read in various net venues. It is why I sold Gold Reserve quite a while ago (Venezuela).
I am not asserting a concern about near-term instability or threats to foreign mining companies in the Central American counties where RNC has operations - just a generalized ill-ease with Nicaragua, Honduras region. I guess I still remember those Sandinista-Contra days, and for the record, I supported the Sandinistas at the time :).
Thanks amarksp - I downloaded it when you first posted it, but have not read it carefully yet.
I understand your disappointment.
Ron
I hold Yamana and have liked their story for some time.
Have never held or looked at RNC - reckon I will now.
The new iMac
Wow. So far we like it a lot, a whole lot.
Had folks over last night. In the prelude to the friendly poker game, we were sitting around the bar and someone asked us about our trips to Mexico. I walked to the other side of the family room, picked up the remote and started an iPhoto slideshow of some of our Mexican trips on the iMac. That impressed folks.
Kathy really likes the monitor size. A 17" is the largest she has worked with. She really likes all the space for Photoshop and Illustrator work.
Everything seems to be working just fine. I tried out Photo Booth this morning. Fun little app. Didn't find the effects stuff, but didn't look real hard either. Have video chatted with a few folks. It is all right, but can be disruptive to life around the homestead.
Monday I stop at a local Mac Shop that still has a couple of airport cards in stock to pick one up for the 17" G4 iMac. I think I am going to go with Airport Express for the AirTunes feature, but am certainly open to suggestions.
Ron, enjoying Kathy's shiny new toy
One more Saft post would be better than one more Iraq/Bush/Cheney/liar liar pants on fire post :).
Found a Saft Lite folder on the hard drive. Put it in the trash and emptied trash.
Safari opened and am posting this from Safari.
Disappointed about Mail
But the I have a long history of wanting to customize things so that they are how I like them. Will either get used to Mail or start using a different program for email - and using a different one sounds like more work than using mail :).
We'll get around to reading a Tiger book tomorrow - have to get ready for company now.
Yofal
I guess it would help if I knew what the frack SAFT was :), and why there are mismatched Safari-SAFT pairs out there.
Annie There is an Apple store a mile and a half
away. I'll stop by tomorrow morning and speak with one of the geniuses :)
Mail
in 10.3 I had the mailboxes on the right hand side of the mail window. Have not found a way to move them to the right hand side in 10.4 Frankly, I like the look of mail in 10.3 better, but can live with the look change, especially if I can learn how to move the mailbox listings to the right side of the mail window.
Ok, I did the pacifist thing, reinstalled Safari, exact same problem exists.
The window I get says
Saft Loading Problem
The current version of Safari (v412.5) is not supported.
Then there are three buttons: Try Anyway Disable Saft OK
No matter which one I click I get a spinning beachball and the force quit menu shows safari as not responding.
Pacifist
Yeah, I remember playing that game with the Panther upgrade. It should not be necessary. I should be able to easily download and install Safari as many times as I want to from Apple's website.
Until I miss something in Safari, I don't think I will go to the effort.
No install. Says the system cannot use this software :)
Won't let me install it. Says it requires 10.4.2. I have 10.4.3
I sure do not want to reinstall Tiger, in fact, I do not believe I will do that. Will dink around some more, but no Safari is not a big loss. Just seems odd.
Thanks Bootz,
Still should have been an easy find on Apple's site :). Downloading now
Safari
looked at the Safari package contents so I trashed Safari, figureing there would be an easy way to download the lastest version from the Apple web site.
Boy, was I wrong. Any other browser you go to their website and the latest version is easy to find. Not so with Apple. Found 1.2 from Feb of 2004. Found some information on Safari RSS in info about Mac OS X. but no easy to find "Download Me Here" place.
I can do without it and I can certainly do without putting for a lot of effort to find it, but somehow something seems wrong, and I suspect that something is probably User Error :)
Safari no usuable
On the new box. Everytime I open it I get a little dialogue that says SAFT failed to load - if I click any of the three options in this dialog box I get spinning beachball and have to force quit Safari eventually.
What's up with that?
Ron
Bootz trading strategy
You got a plan, go for it.
We have done well with Apple, energy and metals miners.
Metals - 4 companies, one mutual fund
Natural Gas - one mutual fund
Oil & Gas services - one mutual fund
Apple - Apple
There is another account - with much greater disversification, but I don't mess with it much. Did put all of it in a money market fund for a couple of months this year, but it is back into large cap growth and value, mid/small cap, international and it is up 11% YTD.
A possesive wife
Would not have lasted 15 minutes :)
