OT: Transocean rigs keeping busy
Houston Business Journal - 10:43 AM CST Monday
Transocean rigs keeping busy
Offshore contract driller Transocean Inc. is continuing to net more contracts for its rigs.
The Houston concern said Monday that three of its high-specification deepwater floaters -- the Transocean Marianas, Jack Bates and Sedco 709 -- have been awarded contracts of two to three years for drilling operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and offshore West Africa.
The Transocean Marianas has been awarded a three-year contract from BP (NYSE: BP) valued at around $476 million. The contract is expected to commence in December in direct continuation of the rig's current contract, also with BP.
The Jack Bates has been awarded a two-year contract, worth roughly $248 million, from Woodside Energy (USA), with an expected commencement date in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico some time around November.
The Sedco 709 has been awarded a two-year, $150 million contract from Shell Nigeria Exploration & Production Co. for drilling on Shell Nigeria's Bonga field development program offshore Nigeria. The contract is expected to commence in September 2006.
Last week, Transocean (NYSE: RIG) announced that five of its jackup rigs won contracts totaling 15 years, for an estimated $805 million in revenue.
c'mon S2R!
Its just like waiting at city hall for a service to be fullfilled! LOL!

With all of the positive changes going on, I wonder what Phil Nugents opinion might be these days??
OT: Auction service for oil, gas properties sees sharp rise in activity
Monica Perin
Houston Business Journal
The Oil & Gas Asset Clearinghouse, which provides auction services for buying and selling oil and gas properties both online and in floor bidding, reported this week that its hybrid auctions in the fourth quarter of 2005 totaled sales of more than $200 million.
The Clearinghouse's hybrid auction process allows Internet bidders to compete simultaneously on a real-time basis against floor bidders at the physical auction site.
Of some 400 bidders registered for a December auction, 32 percent were bidding on the Internet, the Houston company says.
The largest sellers were ExxonMobil, which sold $42 million worth of properties, and Total E&P USA, which sold $4 million of properties.
The Clearinghouse introduced its hybrid auctions in March 2000, and in the next 18 months held 13 hybrid auctions plus five exclusively online auctions.
"The growth and acceptance of selling higher valued, quality oil and gas properties has never been more evident," says Ken Olive, president and CEO of The Clearinghouse.
In 2005, the average of all minimum bid properties sold in The Clearinghouse's hybrid auctions exceeded $1 million per lot for the first time, Olive says.
Another record was set in the December 2005 auctions: a record bid of $9.4 million for an Oklahoma property.
By contrast, in June 2002 The Clearinghouse reported selling $5 million in properties at a hybrid auction in Houston which offered some 200 lots.
The Clearinghouse was founded in 1993 by Olive. The company is now an affiliate of Calgary, Canada-based Tristone Capital, an investment banking and energy advisory firm.

FG to Sao Tome: Stop Political Interference
By Mike Oduniyi, 02.08.2006
Nigeria yesterday cautioned the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe not to allow political considerations and excessive interference truncate the orderly exploitation and exploration of hydrocarbon resources in the Joint Development Zone (JDZ) of the Gulf of Guinea.
The two countries are managing the JDZ under a treaty signed in 2001, and have till date awarded six oil blocks to local and multinational companies.
Speaking at the opening of 11th extra-ordinary meeting of the Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) of the JDZ, Head of the Nigerian delegation and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Edmund Daukoru, decried the way technical matters involving operations in the zone had been made to drag on for too long.
Daukoru, who said the meeting was called to resolve outstanding issues dragging back development of the zone, noted that the frequent politicisation of issues in the administration of the JDZ, was affecting the economic interest of the two countries.
He said drilling of the first exploratory well by US oil major, Chevron, on block 01, has added the needed impetus to realise the economic value of the joint development area.
Daukoru said more progress would have been made, but for the political interference in the investment decision process.
Said Daukoru, “my observation has been that a lot of routine issues of technical nature that could have been easily resolved are being allowed to drag on for long.
“This does not service the economic interest of the two countries, because oil business is done in real time.It is worth mentioning the level of progress being made by Chevron, this is example of what you get when decisions are taking in real time.”
You can imagine the level of activities that would be going on to the benefits of the two countries if all the oil blocks have been awarded the same time.”
While urging the Sao Tome and Principe delegation to concede to their Nigerians counterparts the areas of comparative advantages in their relationships, Daukoru added that similar gesture would be conceded to them.
“We stand to benefit from each other experiences. There areas that Nigeria where Nigeria has experience and you should concede those areas to us. There are also areas where you better experience that we would concede to you,” said the minister.
He added that the two countries stand to benefit from each other through mutual trust and respect for each other.
The leader of the Sao Tome and Principe and Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Deolindo bon Esperanca, said that his country was working with Nigeria on the basis of mutual trust so that the two countries can work as a body to advance their economic interest in the common border areas. The JMC meeting continues today. Execution of the treaty between Nigeria and Sao Tome
for the management of the JDZ, had come under threat after the latter kicked against the awards of five oil blocks, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06 last May, by the Joint Development Authority (JDA), the body administering
the Zone.
The Sao Tomean Attorney General last year, released a report alleging "serious flaws" in the way the blocks were awarded. The said several of the companies chosen to explore the JDZ blocks, lacked the technical know-how and the financial muscle necessary to carry out the work, and that the procedures used to select the companies which received concessions contained
serious flaws and did not satisfy the minimum standards required for the award of such licenses.
The tiny archipelago island also picked holes in the preferential rights granted ERCH Energy, in many of the blocks. ERCH Energy is a quoted company on the New York Stock Exchange in which a Nigerian indigenous oil company Chrome has major equity interest. The country said it would lose about $58 million in expected income if the award to ERHC was allowed to stay.
The Joint Ministerial Council has the overall responsibility for all matters relating to the exploitation and exploration of hydrocarbon resources in the JDZ. It has the final say on all matters bordering on the treaty.
At stake is the princely sum of $283 million to be earned from the award, based on the signature bonuses offered by the winners of the blocks. The amount is made up $71 million for Block 2, $40 million on Block 3, while partners in Block 4 including Conoil, will pay $90 million signature bonus. The signature bonus on block 5 fetched $37 million while Block 6 fetched
$45 million.
According to the treaty, Nigeria will get 60 percent of the revenue and Sao Tome, 40 percent.
