PAA.TO Gates sells 1.7M Pan Am shares, keeps 3.32M

RENO--(Mineweb.com) While the world's richest man has sold has sold an estimated 1.75 million shares of Pan American Silver, Bill Gates retained 3,320,000 shares of the Vancouver-based mega-silver producer.
Despite the sale, Pan American Silver Chairman Ross Beaty told Mineweb late Thursday that Gates' fund manager Michael Larson remains "a very active and appreciated director of the company."
In a Schedule 13D filed with the SEC Thursday, Larson, the Business Manager of Cascade Investment, LLC, of Kirkland, Washington, said the company sold 1.75 million shares of Pan American Silver from December 12 through December 20, 2005. William H. Gates III, Chairman of the Board of Microsoft, is the sole member of Cascade.
The shares were sold on the open market for prices ranging from $17.75 to $19.36.
Beaty said he believes that Gates intends to hold his current share position over the long term. "He has held this stock for eight years and is certainly entitled to sell after being such an excellent long term holder," Beatty said, adding "he has made an excellent return on his investment."
"Often large institutions need to adjust their portfolios for all kinds of reasons. I assume this was the case here," Beaty said. "I don't believe it reflects on anything the company is doing, and, of course, it does not affect the company at all." Spot silver prices rose to near $9/oz earlier this month and hovered around $8.50 as of close of markets Thursday.
Pan American stock (PAA:TSX) closed at C$ 22.15 per share Thursday, up 75-cents or 3.5%; and (PAAS:NASDAQ) at US$19.04, up 80-cents or 4.21% .

Circuit City Canada selects the Xtention Learning Management System
Xtention LCMS: Scalable, Flexible and Affordable
Columbia, S.C., July 14, 2005 - Xtention Incorporated, creator of the Xtention Learning Management System and Learning Content Management System, was selected by Circuit City Canada to manage all 800 retail locations and their corporate office location in Toronto.
InterTAN Incorporated is the leading technology retail chain in Canada. InterTAN owns and operates three brands of retail store which include The Source by Circuit City, Rogers Wireless and Battery Plus.

With Xtention, we will equip InterTan/Circuit City with the ability to monitor, manage, and deliver training directly to each location daily”, said Mitch Smith, president and CEO of Xtention. “Likewise, our multilanguage LMS will enable them to manage the diversity within their organization.”
Xtention’s Enterprise LCMS has consistently been recognized by industry veterans as a cost-effective application to manage training, certification, testing, and surveys for medium to enterprise organizations. Xtention’s license is the most cost-effective in the industry, thus allowing organizations, even with training budget constraints, to effectively and efficiently manage internal and external training costs. Xtention is built in a modular fashion which allows organizations to acquire only those features needed, while adding features as their training matures. Current modules include Content Authoring, Skills Assessment, Survey and Evaluation, Ecommerce, and Events.

An Italian Christmas Eve
I thought it would be a nice idea to bring a date to my parents house on Christmas Eve. I thought it would be interesting for a non-Italian girl to see how
an Italian family spends the holidays. I thought my mother and my date would hit it off like partridges and pear trees..... I was wrong! I had only known Karen for three weeks when I extended the invitation. "I know these family things can be a little weird," I told her, "but my folks are great, and we always have a lot
of fun on Christmas Eve."
"Sounds fine to me," Karen said.
I told my mother I'd be bringing Karen with me. "She's a very nice girl and she's really looking forward to meeting all of you."
"Sounds fine to me," my mother said.
And that was that. Two telephone calls. Two sounds-fine-to-me. What more could I want? I should point out, I suppose, that in Italian households, Christmas Eve is the social event of the season -- an Italian woman's reason for living. She cleans. She cooks. She bakes. She orchestrates every minute of the entire evening. Christmas Eve is what Italian women live for. I should also point out, I suppose, that when it comes to the kind of women that make Italian men go nuts, Karen is it. She doesn't clean. She doesn't cook. She doesn't bake. But, she has the largest breasts I have ever seen on a human being. I brought her anyway.
7 p.m. -- we arrive:
Karen and I walk in and putter around for half an hour waiting for the other guests to show up. During that half hour, my mother grills Karen like cheeseburger on
the barbecue and determines that Karen does not clean, cook, or bake. My father is equally observant. He pulls me into the living room and notes, "She has the largest tits I have ever seen on a human being."
7:30 p.m. - Others arrive:
>>> Zio Giovanni walks in with my Zia Maria, assorted kids, assorted
>>> gifts. We sit around the dining room table for antipasto, a
>>> symmetrically composed platter of lettuce, roasted peppers, black
>>> olives, anchovies and cheese....no meat of course. When I offer to
>>> make Karen's plate she says, "No Thank you." She points to the
>>> anchovies with a look of disgust.... "You don't like anchovies?" I
>>> ask. "I don't like fish, Karen announces to one and all while 67
>>> other varieties of seafood are baking, broiling and simmering in the
>>> next room.
>>> My mother makes the sign of the cross. Things are getting
>>> uncomfortable. Zia Maria asks Karen what her family eats on Christmas
>>> Eve. Karen says, "Knockwurst."
>>> My father, who is still staring in a daze, at Karen's chest,
>>> temporarily snaps out of it to murmur, "Knockers?"
>>> My mother kicks him so hard he gets a blood clot. None of this is
>>> turning out the way I'd hoped.
8:00 p.m. - Second course:
The spaghetti and lobster sauce is on the way to the table. Karen declines the lobster sauce and says she'll make her own with butter and ketchup. My mother asks me to join her in the kitchen. Uh, oh...... I take my "Merry Christmas" napkin from my lap, place it on the "Merry Christmas" tablecloth and walk into the kitchen.
"I don't want to start any trouble," my mother says calmly, clutching a bottle of ketchup in her hands. "But if she pours this on my pasta, I'm going to throw acid in her face." "Come on," I tell her. "It's Christmas. Let her eat what she wants." My mother makes a gutteral sound and considers the situation, then nods. As I turn to walk back into the dining room, she grabs my shoulder. "Tell me the truth," she says, "are you serious with this tramp?"
"She's not a tramp," I reply. "And I've only known her for three weeks." "Well, it's your life," she tells me, "but if you marry her, she'll poison you."
8:30 p.m. - More fish:
>>> My stomach is knotted like one of those macrame plant hangers that
>>> are always three times larger than the
>>> plants they hold. All the women get up to clear away the spaghetti
>>> dishes, except for Karen, who, instead,
>>> lights cigarette. "Why don't you give them a little hand?" I politely
>>> suggest. Karen makes a face and walks into the kitchen carrying three
>>> forks. "Dear, you don't have to do that," my mother tells her,
>>> smiling painfully.
>>> "Oh, okay," Karen says, putting the forks on the sink. As she
>>> reenters the dining room, just as a wine
>>> glass flies over her head, and smashes against the wall. From the
>>> kitchen, my mother says, "Whoops."
>>> More fish comes out. After some goading, Karen tries a piece of
>>> scungilli, which she describes as "slimy, like
>>> worms." My mother winces, bites her hand and pounds her chest like
>>> one of those old women you always see in
>>> the sixth row of a funeral home.
>>> Zia Maria does the same. Karen, believing that this is something that
>>> all Italian women do on Christmas Eve,
>>> bites her hand and pounds her chest. My Zio Giovanni doesn't know
>>> what to make of it. My father's dentures fall out and chew-- a
>>> six-inch gash in the tablecloth.
10:00 p.m. - Coffee, dessert:
Espresso all around. A little anisette. A curl of lemon peel. When Karen asks for milk, my mother finally slaps her in the face with a cannoli. I guess it had to happen sooner or later. Karen, believing that this is something that all Italian women do on Christmas Eve, picks up a cannoli and slaps my mother with it. "This is fun," Karen says. Time passes and believe it or not everyone is laughing and smiling and filled with good cheer even my mother, who grabs me by the shoulder, laughs and
says, "Get this bootana out of my house."
"Sounds fine to me," I said.
THE END
If you aren't in stitches by now, you don't know Italians!
PS: If you ARE Italian, I'm sure you experienced this, or something close to it. Buon Natale.

Ukrainain Fire Department
One dark night outside a small town in Alberta, a fire started inside
the local sausage plant and in a blink it exploded into massive flames.
The alarm went out to all the fire departments from miles around.
When the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene, the sausage
company president rushed to the fire chief and said,
"All of our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant.
They must be saved and I will give $50,000 to the fire department
that brings them out intact."
But the roaring flames held the firefighters off. Soon more
fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate.
As the firemen arrived, the president shouted out that the offer was now
$100,000 to the fire department who could bring out the company's secret files.
From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight.
It was the nearby Mundare rural township volunteer fire department composed
mainly of Ukrainians over the age of 65.
To everyone's amazement, the little run-down fire engine, operated by these
Ukrainians, passed all the newer sleek engines parked outside the plant....
and drove straight into the middle of the inferno.
Outside the other firemen watched as the Ukrainian old timers
jumped off and began to fight the fire with a performance and effort never seen before.
Within a short time, the Mundare old timers had extinguished the fire and saved
the secret formulas. The grateful sausage company president joyfully announced that
for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to $200,000, and walked
over to personally thank each of the brave, though elderly, Ukrainian
firefighters.
The local TV news reporters rushed in after capturing the event
on film asking,
What are you going to do with all that money?"
"Vell," said Nick Sputski, the 70-year-old fire chief, "da furst
ting ve gonna do is fix da brakes on dat focking truck!"
