Got mine today. Haven't opened it yet
I am a surgeon and know medical devices but don't know the device industry like others here. I own 60k shares at an average of $1.43; I am very much in the red.
I do realize, however, that I am SMALL POTATOES to management and would not expect them to reply to my calls or emails. Any info we have gained is pure gravy.
I have a bigger $ share in Apple but would not expect Tim Cook to respond to my complaints about a delay in the iWatch release. I am amused by those recommending mutiny against management. We are just investors; we are NOT the company.
From my perspective, one has two choices: sit pat and stop complaining, or SELL.
Agreed. Part of speed comes from the ability to think 10 steps ahead, most of speed is actually just efficiency in motion and eliminating unnecessary maneuvers. Some of this can be learned, most cannot be.
In my portfolio, this is intended to be the homerun. I will not settle for a single. Give me $20, I will be happy.
Do tell, SIU....
Covidien, aka Tyco Healthcare, aka US Surgical, has been a large player in MIS since 1990.
Thanks Dak. There remains a light (however faint) at the end of the tunnel.
Testing $1.26 again. Fingers crossed.
My name is scalpel and I too am a titanaholic. For reasons I don't understand and can't control (OCD?), I find myself checking my portfolio ALL of the time. I also saw my portfolio take a tremendous dive over the last several weeks. I saw all my profits dissipate into losses. I average out at $1.43. Don't know why I think we will see a meteoric rise anytime soon, but one can hope, against all things rational, that something will happen soon and hopefully get me back into the green for the short-term.
....and they are closed
EGR:
Good luck to you....stick around and play with us though.
A little disappointed that they didn't show the arms moving or changing shape. They seemed static in their orientation.
LOL. Hoping that the camera can move independently relative to the effector arms. If the entire unit needs to be rotated, say 90°, the arms would be coming in oriented vertically rather than horizontally.
Agree about the upward view.
Finally saw the video once bandwidth issues abated. It looks very promising. The image is very sharp, but I would caution against comparing it to the "standard" laparoscopic view. That image is substandard. Currently, I use a system from Storz, providing HD imaging, which is brighter and clearer than the one seen on the video. I still think that the image from the SPORT is an improvement over what I use, even in the 2-D video, but it is not as profound as you might infer from the video.
Not two machines, but an additional access port (usually 5mm) to allow an additional instrument to be used, usually from a different approach angle
Mostly true Dak. The guy was Leon Hersh and he five-fingered the technology.
The company was Auto Suture, which morphed into US Surgical, was bought by Tyco, and is now Covidien.
Ethicon makes a better suture, but Covidien makes a much better stapler.
Don't waste your time on this chicken little shorter.....
Our anonymity on this board is a double edged sword!
Agree with you, but don't you mean $ to pointofreturn and not IITF?
I had sarcastically posted earlier that I thought that the press conference on Friday was a nefarious attempt by management to increased stock visibility and trading volume. It seems that that result has indeed come true, regardless of intent. Trading volumes have been consistently in excess of 500k. If they can keep the volume up and the news positive, we will go to a happy place much more quickly! Woo hoo!
Why don't you just take your cranky ass and go away? We don't need pump and dumpers on this site. The weak have fled. All that is left are those that are long and strong. You are wasting your time and ours.
It would likely have to be remote from the primary incision. You have to realize that the camera is probably 10 mm in size, going through that incision as well. For bariatric surgery, the patients weigh, usually, in excess of 300-400 pounds. The cosmetics associated with a single incision are less critical in that patient population.
Point
Good luck. Hopefully they will be open, honest and forthcoming.
Thanks
I would be very hesitant to use a 5 mm stapler on the stomach. I would have no compunction to add a second port to enable using a standard 12 mm stapler in conjunction with a SILS port.
You've bailed on the company. Do us all a favor and bail on this forum as well.
Here's hoping NOT
The good news is that my order for 10k at $1.00 never got filled.
The BAD news is that my order for 10k at $1.00 never got filled.
Any comments on the tremendous volume that we have seen the last few days. Unless someone was in a coma, the tree shaking should be over and those that were going to bail have bailed. Is this market makers taking over and turning multiple deals at 0.01 differences or is there new interest in the now deeply discounted stock price?
Sarcasm
Could this be their nefarious way of increasing investor interest? Catastrophically bad news dramatically increasing share volume!
Even finer for urology.
The last thing one wants to do is an anastomosis with 5-0 or 6-0 suture (very fine) on delicate tissue without haptic feedback.
As a surgeon, I am embarrassed to ask this question, as it belies my naivety: why do they need to go back and develop multiple prototypes to obtain multiple indications from the FDA?
When one buys a car, the car can be driven anywhere. It is not specified that a certain model can only be driven locally to the supermarket while another model can be taken across state to the amusement park....
Not sure that adding more indications will change the timeframe (not necessarily the timeLINE) significantly. The mechanisms will not change, only the end effectors. There will be a need for different grasper tips, etc, but this should be straightforward. I don't see the addition of additional arms or other major changes to the base "module".
The problem that many of us longs have with this stock is that we have been in for the long-haul for many years and there is still the opportunity for newbies to get in right now and ride the wave with us. Despite our enthusiasm and cheerleading, the stock has moved very little and it is frustrating to us. Here's to hoping that 2015 will be the year that we all know it can be and all the angst, anger, and frustration will be well worth it.
Regarding an internal salesforce, I have seen many medical device companies sell their products through distributors. A company of this size can do all of their sales with outside people.
I have more than all but one of the funds.
Huge volume again. People starting to notice our little gem.
Not happy with the price, but liking the volume the last few days !
