Yes, well, besides doing the Pogroms, the Catholics also did the Crusades, were hard core "Jews killed Jesus" people, expelled the Jews from Spain, ghettoized the Jews in Italy, started the blood libel fun, and the S. American branch welcomed some of the worst Nazi war criminals.
I think a lot has changed since your were a child, but that might be wishful thinking. Personally, I've never experienced prejudice at the hands of our Catholic brethren, but mine has been a sheltered existence.
I predict you will be elected on the first ballot to the Blah Blah Hall of Fame. I honestly still have no idea what your points are, you don't seem to actually come out and state them.
What fun it will be when American kids start coming home in body bags from fighting Russians in Ukraine, eh?. Who could object to that? And Russia then starts using tactical nukes in response.
I find strict Constitutionalists to be a bit like Bible thumpers, not open to change due to their interpretations of foundational documents.
Of course it's all bee ess, they're stances to justify and rationalize all sorts of unacceptable behaviors.
I liked Adams, heard him speak twice at private functions before the election and was impressed.
I maybe don't like that he was a cop and some stuff that he's done so far in office, but anyone would be a major improvement after DiBlasio, a real sleaze-o.
Subways are running better since his election but that's partly due to the Governor, who is also, thankfully, a new one.
Biggest threat to NY State now is if the invertebrate Lee Zeldin gets elected Governor. In a rational world there would be no way he can win, but that would be in a rational world.
And some here are working hard to prevent that.
They apparently loved killing them some Jews. I'd heard that the Lithuanians were enthusiastic, too, but, I guess, informally.
Not sure what you're saying here. Putin, bad! We all agree on that but so were Mao & Stalin & Pol Pot & Amin & Mugabe.
You seem to be under the impression that if we stop Putin now, even at the risk of starting a nuclear WWIII, that evil will be wiped off the face of the earth.
That's not to say we shouldn't try, but warfare's evolved, we can beat him without GI Joe getting in on the action.
Is proportional voting the same thing as ranked voting? We had that in NYC for the first time during last year's election for Mayor. I'm relatively pleased with the outcome, even though this is a small sample size.
It's like in the Constitution where the line goes, "...all men are created equal..." It really depended on who got to be defined as "men" and who got to do the defining.
America has evolved into a democracy (which we're trying to hold on to) but certainly wasn't founded as one.
The southernmost portion of Poland at the time, Galicia, now part of Ukraine had a southern border with the Ottoman Empire.
https://www.geshergalicia.org/about-galicia/
The Poles didn't look too kindly on my grandparents' sorts. The deal was that the boys had to turn 18 on the boat or else they'd be conscripted and most likely not come back. My grandmother had to flee from the pogroms and the fun rapes that came with them. (according to her, the pogroms were always led by a priest, although not the raping part)
At home, my mother always referred to Poles in two ways, as Polacks and Fucking Polacks.
rooting for the home team is always important
Yes, thank you.
No powerful nation is blameless in the way it has historically treated other countries or its own citizens, in fact.
The issue here, in my opinion, is to first make sure we don't participate in the onset of a nuclear holocaust.
There's plenty we can do to help the Ukrainian people without causing crazy Vlad to start dropping nukes all over Europe. I'm guessing there's also a lot more internal dissent amongst the Russian people about this than we're hearing about.
If my grandparents were from a part of Poland that's now a part of Ukraine, does that make me part Ukrainian?
Yes, we allowed atrocities, if you mean that we didn't send in American troops.
Don't keep me guessing, what's your point?
Couldn't we also say that atrocities were committed in Iraq and Vietnam (napalm, anyone?) and Cambodia? There are reasons that Kissinger is considered a war criminal in some circles, ditto Cheney.
What about the Uyghurs, Myanmar, Sudan, Ethiopia? More than one head of state is responsible for the sorry state of the world.
https://www.voanews.com/a/usa_us-calls-out-genocide-atrocities-committed-6-countries/6208177.html
Again and once again, I've never said not to fight Putin, I just don't want American kids dying to satisfy your apparent bloodlust.
Sending troops in.
Listen, I've already challenged you to cite where I wrote that we shouldn't be helping Ukraine, and said I'd apologize if you found something.
Instead, you continue with this nonsense. I said don't send troops in, we didn't send troops into Syria and Rwanda. And why do you advocate for sending troops in now but didn't for those other countries. And whether that's racism.
I'm getting a feeling that you're really Donald Trump Jr. Regular people simply aren't this dense.
You continue to misrepresent what I've previously posted, to what end I cannot fathom.
I'm against American troops fighting in Ukraine against Russia. All other aid to Ukraine is on the table. That includes cyber warfare, armaments, sanctions, missiles, what have you.
Do you have this much trouble comprehending what others write?
I have never written "that since we didn't act before why should we now", or anything remotely to that effect.
Yours is a plea for attention.
No you hadn't but someone else had.
What country is a true democracy, when you come right down to it?
Democracy seems to be, maybe, aspirational.
True, there's no perfect place to live and America seems to be as good as anywhere else.
That being said, there seems to be a bit of a brain drain of really smart young Americans headed off overseas to work and live.
I have 3 cousins who have done that and one of my son's childhood friends, all in different countries in Europe. Brainiacs all.
I'm not defending Israel. I'm advocating for not having a double standard when judging that country. While it's true, obviously, that two wrongs don't make a right, there has to be some context, too.
Cruz is just a performance artist. There is zero substance to what he usually states, it's an act for those who he considers the rubes, his voters. It would seem that his constituents should feel like he is constantly insulting their intelligence.
"I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz." - Al Franken
“If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you” - Lindsay Graham
Such a weird post. Was America a democracy before women could vote? Was it a democracy before the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965?
Is America a democracy now, with all of the voter suppression laws being enacted? Is America a democracy when the loser of the popular vote can win the Electoral College vote and be installed anyway?
I guess not, people who live in glass houses..... That rose colored nostalgia casts a powerful spell.
Yeah, maybe you should explain the news to me. When Trump did the deal with Mexican oil, did that help or hurt Russian exports?
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-global-oil-mexico-trump/trump-oil-deal-raises-question-for-mexico-at-what-cost-idUSKCN21W1XN
So great to have a stupid conservative (is there any other kind) posting here who thinks they're smarter than everyone else. Which would be fine, who doesn't think that about themselves - but only particularly stupid people reference other's intelligence based on almost nothing, one post or two.
No need to regroup. The Post is a Murdoch / Putin media outlet. So tell me genius, what's Murdoch's connection with Putin? Here's a hint:
https://bylinetimes.com/2022/01/26/why-is-rupert-murdochs-media-parroting-russian-propaganda-over-ukraine/
https://www.thedailybeast.com/malcolm-turnbull-says-rupert-murdoch-and-donald-trump-did-vladimir-putins-work-for-him
Thank you, my point exactly. Unlike the liberal media, conservative outlets waste no time with opposing points of view.
In a recent poll, according to DW, a majority of Germans want to stop importing Russian fuel, even though it makes up at least 40% of their supply and will lead to seriously higher prices.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/20/germany-gas-deal-qatar-end-energy-dependency-on-russia
And what independent liberal leaning columnists write opinion pieces for that rag? At least the fake news like WaPo and NYT have some pathetic conservatives on their teams, not so any Murdoch / Putin publications.
You look to the NY Post for impartial analyses? Ok, you tipped your hand.
Not sure what your point is. Navalny put out the multi-part, "Putin's Palace" a few years ago, it's available on YouTube.
Income inequality has only gotten very much worse in Russia throughout Putin's entire tenure. The makings of a peoples' revolt has been long in the making, they resent them some oligarchs, and now with the military otherwise occupied, Vlad's number may be coming up.
This invasion of Ukraine has helped zero Russian people. Food will be harder to get, be more expensive, and the male breadwinners are dying in droves.
How would you have heard? From Russian state media?
The fact that Vlad's not trotting out traitors / saboteurs for execution might mean they are being more effective than is known.
I'm sure that woman tv producer isn't out there on her own.
Duke's legit. They're going to be a tough out in this tournament.
Blah blah, according to you.
I think it shows how little you know if you think American soldiers in Vietnam would follow leaders into hell.
Why the heck do you think we ended the draft shortly after that fiasco?
So, these "shiny 2 bars" were of no consequence and you know their actual motivations for doing various stuff?
Make that meaningless blah blah.
I gather it's not your thing, but maybe sometimes read a little history:
https://www.historynet.com/the-hard-truth-about-fragging/
"There were thousands of fragging threats during the Vietnam War, most of which were never acted on. There are at least 800 confirmed attempts in the Army and Marines. 86 of the officers and sergeants were killed and approximately 700 were injured. This is only the documented cases. The true number of fraggings may never be known."
And this: "Several hundred murders of U.S. soldiers by firearms occurred in Vietnam but most were of enlisted men killing other enlisted men of nearly equal rank."
The issue, in my opinion, is how to do this without playing Putin's game of drawing NATO into a shooting war. I'd bet that all of this stuff and a lot more is going on behind the scenes.
Of course we're going to state, for the record, that we're not doing anything directly, why would we antagonize a crazy dictator like that?
We can't read the news about this war and think that we're remotely getting the actual story.
I suppose you think you're irking me greatly by constantly referring to me as Tucker.
Well, I guess that's easier for you than thinking about things and posting cogent responses with links.
So, have at it, it would be really really difficult for me to care less about what you think about me, at this point.
Ivanka is truly a no-nothing who was in over her head, there and almost everywhere else.
To be fair, though, you can't actually plagiarize fashion designs, they are exempt from copyright considerations. The fashion industry encourages copying and knock offs.
"However, clothing is considered a "useful article." This means you cannot copyright the clothes themselves, or even the design."
https://www.newmediarights.org/business_models/artist/can_you_copyright_clothing_designs
What did you want do about Rwanda, General? Why do you only seem to care about Europeans being murdered.
Show us your posts where you demanded American military intervention there or in Darfur.
https://genocideeducation.org/resources/modern-era-genocides/
"It is estimated that 400,000 people have died due to violence, starvation and disease. More than 2.5 million people have been displaced from their homes and over 200,000 have fled across the border to Chad. Many now live in camps lacking adequate food, shelter, sanitation, and health care."
That cool, bro? Where's your outrage for genocides perpetrated against brown people?
Yes and another thing to be remembered is that for Russian (and 3rd party) soldiers, this is just a job. But Ukrainians are fighting for their lives and their country.
It's not a perfect analogy but is similar to what we faced in Vietnam. American officers were being fragged by their own troops because the feeling amongst some grunts was that the cause really wasn't worth it.
The NVA didn't have those feelings, it was life or death for them, too, and there was no other place to go home to after a tour of duty.
Putin needs more ragtag troops because his military has been found out to be mediocre and he lacks sufficient high tech weaponry and funding. So, more cannon fodder, please, and I'd expect a pretty high number of desertions from Vlad's army.
The issue that's just as great as defeating Russia in Ukraine is to make sure that process doesn't spiral into some sort of global nuclear conflagration.
I mean talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Yay, Russia's been defeated but we're all now living in some sci-fi post apocalyptic nightmare scenario. In this case, Biden's discretion is to be respected if not admired. The last thing we need now is an irresponsible, IQ challenged mad man, insecure about his masculinity in charge, i.e., Trump.
We can and must support Ukraine in ways that are undetectable by Russia. We can send arms through 3rd parties, wage digital warfare, increase sanctions, etc. War has been declared, for sure, 21st century style.
Except for this one lunatic armchair general, no one has advocated for America to get involved in a shooting war in Ukraine.
We can be more effective behind the scenes and avoid a global nuclear war.
Which makes me think that this one person here, possibly, is a hard core evangelical pushing for something to cause End Times so he can go to his Rapture.
Is asking others to join the fight really warfare as usual?
We had the French and the Brits had the Hessians (and freed slaves) so it goes at least that far back.
Bush I, formed a coalition of other countries to fight Saddam in Kuwait over his donors' oil wells.
How could Melania not be a planted honey-pot? Isn't that the first, most obvious thing?
So what if he's a zoned out crackhead? How has that even slightly influenced any course of events.
It's not like he's friends with a murderous dictator in the Middle East and his brain dead father in law is President and taking his advice about how to deal with that same murderous dictator.
That's the obvious thing. We're doing stuff and denying we're doing that same stuff. No use antagonizing Vlad any more than necessary.
