It seems to me that the confusion over the latest results
comes from the lack of understanding that many people
seem to have about how HCV is treated. It is, and will be,
treated with a drug combo. Bavi may just possibly be able
to replace IFN. Couple bavi with one of the new protease or
polymerase inhibitors and you could have a real competitor
to the current SOC. People should be thinking of bavi as
a replacement for IFN and not as some wonder drug that is
going to cure HCV all by itself. If bavi has far fewer
side effects (does it have any?) than IFN then I could
see that the bavi combo could take over the market. Not
only that, but to create a bigger market because many
people quit the current treatment because of the bad side
effects. What about those who don't even start the current
treatment because of what they have heard about those
bad side effects? I see the phase 1b results as very
positive. I wait to hear what effect the larger 6mg dose had.
