Movieguy and WilliamFL, Thanks...here's hoping that you can continue to confirm that the Virgin settlement will be favorable, and if it isn't settled on May 17, how soon it would be thereafter. We appreciate and look forward to your feedback on this board shortly after the hearing ends.

Microsoft's New Mobile OS?
From SunSentinel.com Microsoft launches new version of Windows for cell phones.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/business/local/ny-bzmicr0511,0,5959225.story?coll=sfla-business-front
NEW YORK -- Microsoft Corp. unveiled Tuesday a new version of its Windows operating system for mobile devices that unifies the platform for cell phones and Pocket PC handheld computers.
There's one sentence in this story that could have enormous consequences, do you see it? Stay tuned.

I read the article. It was not obvious to me what sentence the Pondering Primate was referring to. I picked the one bolded below, but it seems like a "motherhood and apple pie" type sentence so I am not sure that's what he had in mind.
"It also marks another change of course in Microsoft's long-evolving strategy to extend the dominance of its Windows computer platform to mobile devices."
What do you guys and gals think? Is this the important sentence or do you see another more significant?

Senate approves electronic ID card bill

Last-minute attempts by online activists to halt an electronic ID card failed Tuesday when the U.S. Senate unanimously voted to impose a sweeping set of identification requirements on Americans.
The so-called Real ID Act now heads to President Bush, who is expected to sign the bill into law this month. Its backers, including the Bush administration, say it's needed to stop illegal immigrants from obtaining drivers' licenses.
If the act's mandates take effect in May 2008, as expected, Americans will be required to obtain federally approved ID cards with "machine readable technology" that abides by Department of Homeland Security specifications. Anyone without such an ID card will be effectively prohibited from traveling by air or Amtrak, opening a bank account, or entering federal buildings.
After the Real ID Act's sponsors glued it to an Iraq military spending bill, final passage was all but guaranteed. Yet that didn't stop a dedicated cadre of privacy activists from trying to raise the alarm in the last few days.
UnRealID.com, which calls the legislation a "national ID card," says that more than 10,800 people filled out its online petition to senators.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation hastily created a "Stop The Real ID Act!" campaign last week, and the ACLU denounced the bill as a measure that would create "a system ripe for identity theft." Security guru Bruce Schneier offered his own negative critique.
If the Real ID Act had been a standalone piece of legislation--instead of being embedded in an unrelated military spending bill--its passage in the Senate might have been less certain.
The House approved it in February by a relatively narrow vote of 261-161, and some senators had condemned it. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., warned last month that the Real ID Act creates "de facto national ID cards" and the National Immigration Law Center said it will make it harder even for legal immigrants and citizens to get drivers' licenses.
Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner, a Wisconsin Republican and Real ID Act sponsor, applauded the Senate vote on Tuesday. "The Real ID is vital to preventing foreign terrorists from hiding in plain sight while conducting their operations and planning attacks," Sensenbrenner said. "By targeting terrorist travel, the Real ID will assist in our war-on-terror efforts to disrupt terrorist operations and help secure our borders."

Microsoft's Mobile Initiative

Microsoft's Mobile Initiative
Redmond is hauling out its big guns in bid to claim a dominant position in the market for mobile-devices software
Microsoft is trying to gain a stronger hand in the mobile-devices market by doing what it does best: Winning the hearts and minds of software developers.
At Microsoft's (MSFT ) annual conference for mobile-software developers, held in Las Vegas on May 10, Chairman William Gates unveiled a new mobile operating system -- Windows Mobile 5.0 -- which will largely unify the company's previously separate software for cell phones and personal digital assistants. Now that the platform for both devices is practically one and the same, it will be easier for developers to work with Microsoft's software.
Moreover, the operating system's many nifty features -- such as its support for miniature typewriter keyboards and the ability it offers users to view e-mail attachments and PowerPoint presentations -- make it comparable to RIM's (RIMM ) famed BlackBerry, which is mostly used for wireless e-mail access. "[The new operating system] does help Microsoft to close the gap," says Todd Kort, an analyst with the research company Gartner.
TRIED AND TRUE. While all of this may sound like a marked change, it's really a page out of the old Microsoft playbook. Since its early days, the company has excelled at convincing software developers to write programs that build on top of Microsoft's products. In the process, Microsoft creates what software gurus call an "ecosystem" in which other types of software become inseparable from its own creations.
That's just what the folks in Redmond (Wash.) are trying to achieve now in the mobile market, and the uptake for the new operating system is expected to be healthy. Several manufacturers, including Samsung, have already unveiled devices using Windows Mobile 5.0 in Europe, and the operating system is expected to become available in the U.S. from manufacturers such as Dell (DELL ), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ ), and Motorola (MOT ) in the summer or in early fall, says Susan DelBene, a corporate vice-president of marketing for the mobile & embedded devices division at Microsoft.
Though rivals say Windows Mobile 5.0 doesn't do anything they don't already do, it could be bad news for the world's largest cell-phone maker, Nokia (NOK ), which uses a rival smart phone operating system called Symbian. And that's not to mention the difficulties it could cause for mobile-device makers such as RIM and palmSource (PSRC ).
WINDOW ON THE FUTURE. Microsoft is certainly putting plenty of marketing clout behind its mobile push, with a blitz rumored to reach $100 million in spending before it's over -- a startling sum when you consider Microsoft Mobile, together with Microsoft's other offerings in consumer-electronics software, generated only $80 million in sales in the first quarter. Microsoft execs won't say for sure how much they plan to spend but, "You'll see a bigger marketing effort from us than you've ever seen in the past for Windows Mobile," says DelBene.
At stake is one of the fastest-growing segments of the tech industry. Sales of so-called smart phones, which Microsoft is targeting, are expected to increase 67% this year, to 32.2 million units, according to researcher In-Stat. While the PC market is stuck in single-digit growth, sales of software for mobile devices could be nothing less than one of the keys to the software giant's future.

SYWARE to Display Mobile Database Software Interoperability with Socket Communications’ RFID Reader Card at Microsoft Mobile and Embedded DevCon Show
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15587
CAMBRIDGE, MA, U.S.A. -May 5, 2005- SYWARE, Inc., announced it will exhibit at the Microsoft Mobile and Embedded DevCon Show (MEDC 2005) to display interoperability between the company’s Visual CE mobile database software and Socket Communications’ CompactFlash RFID Reader Card. SYWARE rapidly mobilizes information between the enterprise and the field and rapidly converts paper-based or PC processes into mobile applications, without programming, that can be deployed on any Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Windows CE device. Socket’s RFID Reader Card allows users to add RFID capabilities for Pocket PC applications. Socket’s RFID Reader Card product reads and writes to all ISO 15693 and many proprietary 13.56Mhz RFID tags being used or deployed for asset tracking, access control, process control, healthcare, medical, pharmaceutical and other applications.
This news follows SYWARE’s previous announcement that the company’s customer, Reflex, successfully deployed SYWARE’s Visual CE to mobilize information, allowing Reflex representatives service Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT), Home Depot (NYSE: HD), Canadian Tire Corporation (TSX: CTR.NV), Rona, Inc. (TSX: RON) and others. Socket’s RFID Reader card is supported by SocketScan keyboard wedge software that sends the RFID tag ID to any Windows application as virtual keystrokes. An additional application allows reading and writing to the accessible tag memory blocks.
“We welcome the opportunity to continue our relationship with Socket as we believe a combination of SYWARE and Socket technology can address a booming RFID marketplace,” said Sy Danberg, President, SYWARE, Inc. Large retailers such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot are reportedly making plans to require their suppliers to start equipping arriving pallets and cases with RFID devices soon. Venture Development Corporation (VDC), a market research and strategy firm specializing in the RFID industry, estimates that the RFID industry will grow at a five year compound annual growth rate of 22.6%, putting the market size at about $2.7 billion in 2007. The interest in RFID has reached an all-time high, and large retailers and CPG firms like Wal-Mart, Gillette, and Procter & Gamble are stepping up the timetable for broader adoption of the technology.
“Using Visual CE in conjunction with Socket’s RFID Reader Card enables companies to quickly implement cost-effective, easy-to-use mobile RFID scanning solutions,” said Jack Brandon, Senior Business Manager, Barcode & RFID Products, Socket Communications. “Our RFID Reader Card and Visual CE enables companies to significantly improve the speed and efficiency of all their mobile data entry processes, whether in inventory control, field force automation, logistics, transportation, or health care.”
Visual CE’s intuitive, drag-and-drop interface allows users to create powerful data collection and information access applications. When used in conjunction with Socket’s RFID Reader Card, customers now have a quick and convenient way to capture and access indispensable data.
Once RFID data is entered into Visual CE, reports can be created using SYWARE’s Report CE®, the world’s only reporting writing tool for Pocket PCs. Report CE allows users to quickly design and share professional reports in exactly the format required. Reports can be e-mailed as text attachments, or displayed and printed in color, providing a professional look and feel for the end product. Visual CE can also be integrated with mEnable®, SYWARE’s wireless architecture, extending Windows Mobile software applications with real-time, interactive access to server data allowing mobile devices to be easily integrated with business processes.

Beacon27, there is a mountain of DD evidence already presented on this board that the settlement will be favorable. I am not even considering the alternative as I believe the probability is very small. JMHO.
SS9173
SOG, Neom typically issues PR's at 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM Eastern time zone. However, sometimes they have varied from that schedule, but not very often.
SS9173
Movieguy, as you stated, it wouldn't surprise me to see this go beyond May 17th...it seems these settlements always take a lot longer than one would think it should. Nevertheless, whether its next week or a couple of months from now, the probability to get a significant return on your investment with the pull-back we have seen this week seems like a "no-brainer" imo.
SS9173
FWIW, I bought another 20,000 shares this morning. Remember the Virgin settlement court hearing is scheduled for one week from today, and all indications (from WilliamFL and Movieguy who attended in Chicago on April 15) are that it will be favorable. IMO, you have got to take advantage of pull-backs. If we get the news that is expected, you may be able to double your money in a relatively short period of time.
SS9173
Success, I had the feeling it might be significant. Is it worth passing on to Neom management?

DD From FierceWireless.com
Microsoft to launch newest version of Windows Mobile next week
Microsoft next week is expected to launch the latest version of its mobile software, Windows Mobile 5. The new mobile OS, code-named Magneto, is designed to make Microsoft's mobile platform more flexible and scalable, allowing device makers to create a large variety of Windows-powered mobile gadgets. Windows Mobile 5 is reported to include a number of improvements, including better one-handed device navigation, a improved version of mobile Word, a mobile viewer for PowerPoint, and the ability to add photos to phone contacts. Windows Mobile 5 will also supposedly make it easier for users to roam between different wireless networks, such as roaming between a cellular data connection and a WiFi hotspot.

OT JP, Congratulations! I wish you continued success in all of your future endeavors.

Wooger, Thanks for reposting. I especially like and agree with your perspectives stated on March 26. IMO, we just need to get the Virgin settlement behind us so we can move on to bigger and better things as you outlined.
SS9173
Wando, I am not an expert in this field, but I believe a company acquiring more than 5% shares of NEOM would be required to file either form SCD 13-D or SC 14-D within 10 days of making the transaction.
Here is a link with a guide to SEC filings that I used to make the above statements:
http://research.thomsonib.com/help/sec_guide04-03-02.htm
If anyone more knowledgeable on SEC rules can confirm, please do.
SS9173
JoeDimaggio, I agree with you. IMO, NEOM has life changing potential, MOBL does not. That doesn't mean MOBL isn't a good investment. TS recommendation last night to move some profits from NEOM to MOBL might be fine for a short-term play, but I will keep my dollars right on NEOM because once those "major PR's" are released, the ROI potential for NEOM will far exceed MOBL.
SS9173
So much for my joining the Million Dollar Club...I am down about $130K since the high reached shortly after Monday's open. :>(
That doesn't surprise me though as I have repeatedly said to expect a pps retracement if we didn't get a "major news" PR. Like I said in post #14683, I won't celebrate until the press releases are issued. Nevertheless, my convictions for Neom run deep and I am sure in the long run we longs will all be winners!
SS9173
Cloud8, I respectfully disagree. TS last buy under for Neom was $0.50. Typically those that follow him will push the pps up 15-20% higher than his buy under, then it will retrace. I disagree for two reasons: (1) The increase beyond $0.60 would not generally be attributed to TS based on his last buy under price, and (2) the sheer volume of shares traded since the beginning of April indicates MM or institutional activity...not TS driven. JMHO.
SS9173
Kokonutguy, Great analogy. Once the PR's on the Virgin settlement and Fortune 100 deal are released, Neom is a going to be like the 1849 Gold Rush. I am glad you and I as well as the other pre-0.15 longs found it beforehand.
JP, I will second the nomination of post of the week.

SS9173
Success622, Thanks for welcoming me to the Million Dollar Club. I was briefly there when the pps reach 0.742 first thing this morning. The market has pulled back since then, so guess what, I bought another 20,000 shares at 0.70. When you believe in Neom's "life-changing" potential like myself and many others on this board do, you have got to take advantage of these pull backs every chance you get before the "real" news hits.
SS9173
Alynnb, Interesting scenario you outlined. Maybe we could go back through the last month or so of individual buys occuring for the last hour of the close and figure out if there was a hypothetical Fortune 100 company systematically buying the 19.9% ownership, how many shares do they own now, and based on their buying rate, when (ie., what date) would they satisfy their share requirement for this level of ownership.
SS9173
Mudrez, JoeDiMaggio, YellowJacket, Wooger,
Congratulations on making it to the Million Dollar Club. I appreciate all the great DD you guys have provided to us. I am not far behind you guys...needing $0.742 to reach the million dollar mark. I am anxious for the press releases confirming the winning of the Virgin lawsuit and the Fortune 100 deal, which will sustain this pps increase and propel us to new highs, (and more $$$millions$$$).
SS9173
Wow, just had a chance to check on Neom for the first time today, and can't believe the momentum this stock has without significant news. I need the pps to reach $0.742 to reach the Million Dollar Club. At this rate that could happen tomorrow. :>)
Although my convictions for Neom obviously run deep, and I know the press releases are forthcoming, I am finding it hard to be at ease with this huge jump in pps until we get the official confirmation of the winning of the Virgin lawsuit, and the announcement of the Fortune 100 deal. Only then will I feel it appropriate to celebrate.
SS9173
Are there any other links similar to the one below that would show a more updated listing of institutional holdings of Neom? I have got to believe with the receive share volume that the institutional numbers would be up dramatically at the end of April.

SS9173
Another 3 month chart...huge volume this month to go along with the nearly 3X increase in pps.

SS9173
Ron,
You should have heeded my advice on Saturday, see post #12568, 3rd paragraph. Nevertheless, in the long run, you will do fine. Just continue to hold what you bought yesterday. Eventually the press releases will come, and the pps will propel to new highs.
SS9173
It appears there will be no press release today. Typically, Neomedia issues them at 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM Eastern time zone.
I am amazed at the volume and pps strength this morning in absence of news.
SS9173
JP, Great idea! EOM
Success, I love that scenario...win-win-win! Thanks for posting. EOM
