Tropical Reports Sale of Administration Building
Monday March 29, 3:48 pm ET
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2004--Tropical Sportswear Int'l
Corporation ("TSI") (Nasdaq:TSIC - News) announced today that it has sold
its currently unoccupied administration building in Tampa, Florida for net
cash proceeds of approximately $9.2 million. Approximately $3.7 million
was used to pay down borrowings under the Company's real estate loan, and
approximately $5.5 million was used to pay down borrowings under the
Company's revolving credit line.
The building was purchased by an entity owned by Gunn Allen Holdings,
Inc., a full service broker-dealer headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
Net sales for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 were $77.3 million as
compared with $99.0 million in the same period last year. The Company
incurred a net loss for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 of $10.4 million,
or $0.94 per diluted share as compared with a net loss of $5.0 million or
$0.45 per diluted share in the same period last year. Gross margin for the
first quarter of fiscal 2004 was $11.4 million, or 14.8% of net sales, as
compared with gross margin of $20.8 million, or 21.0% of net sales for the
same period last year. Gross margins for the first quarter of fiscal 2004
were impacted by the continuing closeout sales for excess inventory which
was built up during the prior fiscal year. Selling, general and
administrative expenses for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 were $17.9
million as compared with $22.3 million for the same period last year. The
decrease in selling, general and administrative expenses resulted from a
reduction of variable sales related expenses and continuing efforts to
reduce costs. Other charges of $3.8 million recorded in the first quarter
of fiscal 2003 related to a separation agreement with the Company's former
chief executive officer, offset in part by a reduction of estimated costs
related to the consolidation and reorganization of the Company's Savane®
division.
Michael Kagan, CEO, commented, "During the first quarter, the Company set
certain plans in motion to further reduce overhead. A reduction in
personnel from November to January is expected to lower employee-related
costs by approximately $6.4 million per annum. The full effect of this
reduction should occur during the third quarter of this fiscal year. In
addition, the Company has decided to transition its Tampa, Florida cutting
operations to contractors in the Dominican Republic and Honduras. The
phase out of the Tampa, Florida cutting operations is expected to be
completed during March 2004."
deac-several emails alerts from the 2.40 to 2.70,, and to many who are here and at the pit including lion,, got 2 thanks emails
GROW will get more attention when it breaks 5.25, then it will be 'new multi-year highs' stuff, yes, there is an 8 print-nothing,, any add on the dips. I dont see why this isnt trading for $8-12 at least,, I have time
vifl+still running???????????? Good grief!,, posted here and there,,it ran +35+/-% yeasteeday,, posted a few time about rtk with the news!,, Dor was a strong buy for a long for 2 +days-matching my views, artx too,, it is very easy for my subs to see what I would buy per my notes,,, I am defensive just about all the time,, with tech for a scalp
I tell ya, I wrote a scan for the pump and dumpers,, with a set of eyes in the i/p room-email system,, getting very close to being able to load before them
do you know what frustrates me? Is I can give a good entry,, trying to give the best I can, and I get ignored or called a pumper, but if the stock wakes up and run, daytraders load up and have fun- (not complaining about that-i am one too on certain stocks) but I have thought about it,, it seems most dont like my picks unless I am already up. the known pumpers put a bad taste in traders mouths when they nail a stock- too many to list,, they need to make it clear to others that their interest is scalping- unless they front ran it for a dump. Now of course not every pick is a homerun,, nobodies is.--yeah that is my 'english and my bitchin for the day.
think about a measly 100-500 shares of GROW to go long on.
CPN is at or near a bottom,, is slighlty hitting scans,,NOTE-look for cheap calls-------yes,, uts are a good way to play it,, my current bet is on CPN
rtk-long- bored,, going outside
GROW,,been pounding the table on this
I have not bet agianst it,, I just try to stay realistic.
read email warning-enjoy the defensives,, and I dont mean gold
thanks mich,, fear is bears are in charge now with gold,, 390 is a risk
defensive plays moving well
yes you did,, we called gold and bonds :),, toppy and whipsaw in bonds with an aprils fools spike for fools gold
at the risk of using all my posts,,, how ugly can you handle?
sometime back,, I noted I was only going into 2 gold stocks- mini-insurance play,, with GROW for the other half- played as: gold and emerging markets,, now my gold part of grow may sag,, but not my emerging market side of it.-jmho,, last year I had a lot of gold,, but not this year- because I couldnt find a justified reason to buy pumped up fear by a semi-employed metal,, sorta like a fat guy on the couch telling the coach how to play the game. I prefer the fuels going forward, and still think gold can get to 550-800-outside,, there are goldbug n/l out there putting targets on gold so high that you know they sold their repetation when they did that.
yip,, tried to warn yesterday--fools gold candle pre-open,, now you can look forward to a -3%+ drop in the pmu-type stocks for every $4 drop in gold,, not all will be impacted,, copper may survive,, hey magic those bonds sure took a swing out of left field :)
running out of posts,, dont forget the other one :)
dor is better than that,, if this market were to roll over-- bio-defense,, and all kinds of defensive stocks will rise from the bloody market. Get them cheap while you can.
grow- did the gold report on cnbc yesterday,, still pounding the table on how far a few shares can go:

let me make this easy,, I dont want to answer emails,, I trade alot of otc/bb-per the chart and sector or news and have done quite well,, I dont bother with mental block of worrying about mm's,, I have LeveL2 and rarely ever use it. Because I know before hand if I like the chart or not and trust my own judgement,, so sure a few losers get in there,, but it is not my job to babysit the mm's,,
