I knew the turnips wouldn't approve of my "strategy" and I appreciate your comment. I didn't realize that my inaction constituted a strategy, but it is. Time to change that bad habit of sticking my neck in the sand.
Zeev, If you had to choose between QLGC AND SNDK to keep in a portfolio which whould you choose. I have both losers and fear of whipsaw has kept me in. I know I should dump both but for now I will settle on one. Thanks much!
It looks like QLTI is having a fun day.
You are right, they are kind. Your questions sound like you want Zeev to hold your hand every step of the way. That is taking advantage. Just my opinion. You can ignore me too. :)
Holly, I must agree with Patrick. I find your posts annoying too. I don't know how Zeev stands it.
I agree with you Zeev. Unfortunately, I can imagine that with the sunset provision in the estate tax code as it stands, there will be a few wealthy elderly who die before estate taxes revert back to the less favorable terms.
OT, you might want to find out what kind of mold was detected. There are two types (Stachybot??? and ?) that are toxic. Clean up is typically with bleach on common molds as noted here by other posters. The mold thing has been a scam overall (yes, some have experienced true horrors with toxic mold) and if the problem was corrected as to why it started then you might be able to get a good deal on the place given the fear mold has placed in public's perception. However, be aware that insurers no longer insure for mold and some won't insure a place that has had a mold problem. so check with your insurer too.
I haven't seen the Bush commercials you are talking about, so I have no comment on that. About your comments about the sanitized war costs - I have the same complaint about 911. I have mixed feelings about how we got to Irag, but since we are there, we must finish what we started and let the military do its job. It seems to me the press focuses more on problems than the progress.
For Peg it is about the horror. I understand your point about it not being about the gore and that is why I also bring up the lack of mention of the actual cause of a beloved man's death.
I don't agree. The press did not show pictures of the people who jumped from the World Trade Center, nor was it widely published that there were jumpers. Father Michael Judge (not sure of the spelling, sorry) was killed by a jumper who landed on him while he was giving last rites to someone. If one was to read accounts of his death they might assume that he could have died of "natural causes". I think the press doesn't want to show dead Americans because of the horror for the families.
OT Good point Fred!
The new drug benefit is not a done deal?
Its future old folks that have to worry. From what was given in that blurb, those collecting now are ok. Plus isn't there a new entitlement to worry about - drug benefits?
It is more than annoying to pay into a system that won't be there for me. The only saving grace is at least my parents are getting something.
OT Is it downtown? Maybe Arnold decided to find a place to live. :)
shouldn't you be out looking for a place to live? :)
Hi Zeev, if I remember correctly, you were no longer following the defense sector. However, you used to follow ATK and it has made a 52 week high. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Thanks for keeping me in mind BasserDan. I haven't had a chance yet to do much research, so your article could be the prod I need . :)
BasserDan, Thank you for the SI idea. I will check it out.
BTW I haven't skied Mt Shasta in a long time. I usually visit in the summer. Lake Shasta is just as awesome in my book.
Basserdan, Do you follow other mining companies such as Cameco (CCJ) and Denison Energy (DEN.TO)? I know nothing about them and someone asked me. Apparently they are in the uranium business and there are long lead times to ramp up production. I don't know about current or expected demand or uranium pricing. I appreciate any insight you or others might have. Thanks.
I have no info on ENMD. A friend of mine used to follow in the early days, but it was sector interest, not firm specific.
Maine, I don't recall you posting about ENMD. Is this a biotech to avoid in your opinion? I see it has been weak lately. I have no position. Thanks
OT, I think it was the United Way that had problems in the past.
OT AGI is adjusted gross income on your 1040
I am not an accountant but this is my understanding on IRAs...
Not all traditional IRAs are deductible. If you are an active participant in an employer sponsored plan you can't deduct if your AGI is over $60,000 on a joint return. Also if you have AGI over $160,000 then you can't do a deductible contribution either.
If you qualify for ROTH it is better than a non-deductible IRA. You can't contribute to a ROTH if your AGI is over $160,000 for married people with a joint return (it is phased out from 150,000 to 160,000)
There are also spousal IRAs and you can rollover a regular IRA to a ROTH. If you do a rollover then you must pay taxes on the amount. Rule of thumb is if you are over 50 it probably isn't worthwhile, except for maybe estate planning purposes.
The $3,500 limit is for those over 50, otherwise it is limited to 3,000.
Also, to contribute to any of these you need earned income. Capital gains don't count.
You might want to check into an umbrella policy. In an umbrella policy there will be minimum levels required for liability on your car policy (maybe $300,000?). If your minimum levels are reached then your umbrella policy limits kick in. You can get a 1,000,000 policy for about $200 I think. As far as limits such as 100,000/300,000, remember that most likely there is only one person in the car so the first number matters.
Hi Zeev, Do you have a stop loss for PII? Thanks much.
Christmas/New Years have been a "traditional" shutdown. Thanksgiving is a new addition. There was shutdown for July 4th also, like many silicon valley firms. I think Agilent was shut down for Labor Day week as well.
NVLS is looking hard at cutting costs. They have announced to their employees another company-wide shutdown during Thanksgiving week.
Desite the troubles CA is facing, I love Upstate California too. I wish it was feasible for us to create our own state.
OT Thanks inthehills
OT Brazil: I heard the opposite about the beaches. I guess they are ok during the day. Also, it would be impossible for me to blend in (think of My Cousin Vinny) as I don't think there are many blondes there. As far as the language goes I am sunk. I can barely speak English and I have been trying to learn Hungarian....
OT, is it safe to travel solo in Brazil?
BDY is the new symbol for Bradley Pharm. I also thought you followed them (although it has been a while).
Slowing growth from 20% to 15% per briefing
Zeev, is CAH one you still follow? Any thoughts about catching this falling knife? Thanks.
OT The big water issue right now is the Klamath. I am amazed when I see pictures of Mt St Helens. Mt Shasta and Lassen are active too. I hope they stay quiet for many years to come...
Thanks Zeev, I stuck my toe in and then had second thoughts. While I was pulling the order I lost that "toe". I guess I will watch it for a bit. At least its not bleeding right now.
Zeev, is this a good time to start a position in TBL?
Thanks.
OT Ajtj, beware of different markets in using the $1700 month per antenna figure. Also consider the length of lease, any rent increases, etc. Check with local planning officals to see if it is permitted.
Zeev, did you double AGM?
