Just to add...
Aside from the backroom boys, the marketing head of Motorola for Europe and now Asia has seen Qode in action. Though in an unrelated forum.
All the best,
SA
My flatbed scanner doesn't even do OCR 100%!
Given the field of vision of the average camera lens, how much info could you capture accurately? Maybe... maybe.. a basic URL, which could be useful.
At least 2D codes provide a significant amount of characters to be accurately available.
Nicely Put. Can anyone name a 2D player who has secured major contracts in the US or Europe or UK yet?
Surely others should have launched last year as well...
lemon... I totally agree with your perspective. Please don't get me wrong. I hate an unsubstantiated pump as much as most, and the course of action we have taken thus far has yielded results (if any) which are far from anyone's liking. More to the point there is currently a very bitter taste in many mouths.
I know it's sounds incongruous to suggest that the previous PR did not refer to the ONE water campaign and given our track record any PR announcing a significant campaign may not help us at this stage, but regardless, take it for what it's worth.
Of course... this is just an online forum. The regular rules of reality apply.
Just like you... hanging in there.
SA.
That press release does not refer to the One Water Announcement.
Hear you loud and clear buddy.
Interesting to know what protocols the forum wishes to employ...
Don't get too exited about the Wii...
If Qode had any part to do with the launch promotions, it would have to have been out there for at least a month leading up to the launch.
I would suggest we recieve nothing, nip, nada from the Prentice Hall arrangement.
It's just free advertising, nothing more.
Lol... those are capital i's
Certainly is Nintendo.
'WII' is working in the Qode window.
Apologies if this has been posted.
This happens to new pages.
How do you know it's Mobot?? What if it fell through?
Just out of curiosity, which PWC companies had you heard of beforehand?
Right you are nazgul...
Interesting... if the numbers are correct that's 33,798 downloads (or download attempts) in the last week
Denso Wave - QR code may not exactly be classified as a competitor.
Denso Wave owns the patents but do not exercise them, meaning they are available to Neomedia to incorporate into Qode as and when they wish. In fact, the sooner Qode can read QR codes the better!
Brothers Streetz... how about an . m4v version?
I can swing one your way for the ipod crowd.
Don't stop there! Keep looking at those numbers...
:)
More info on the Super Girl talent contest
This is BIG - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Girl_(contest)
NeoMedia is promoting the VIP GBQ programme across China via the apparently popular ‘SuperGirl’ talent search content and qode will be used to vote for the winner from 24 finalists, each of whom will have their own smart code. Currently the company is still in the process of preparing its Java-based qode application to run on Chinese handsets.

NeoMedia: Converting Chinese social networks into offline activities
This entry was posted on 10/30/2006 8:08 PM and is filed under social networking.
Virtual to actual could be a challenge
(by Louise Wells (taken from www.gomonews.com)
NeoMedia Technologies is expanding its marketing efforts in China, adding its qode technology to one of the country’s biggest social networking Web sites, GBQ, by agreement with its GBQ’s founder, Internet marketeer Cyber Century.
GBQ (stands for boy, girl, question – see www.gbq.cn ) was set up in 2000 and is said to have two million subscribers between the ages of 18 and 35, most of whom are students. Cyber Century also says that the average user page view at GBQ is twice that of other social networking sites in China, according its own research, and that online dialogues are underway between 10,000 or more subscribers at any one time.
Cyber Century has begun organising offline activities for its members in China’s biggest cities, Shanghai and Beijing, which is where qode comes in. It enables GBQ participants to use their camera phones to ‘click’ on smart codes on posters, printed media and products to find out how, when and where to meet other GBQers.
NeoMedia is to launch of qode for Cyber Century and GBQ in two stages, First it will offer members a GBQ smart code to encourage them to sign up as a VIP GBQ Code Holder. The second phase will be to invite the VIPs to free events, offering discounts and other incentives. However, they will be charged for the qode service, either per click or on a monthly plan.
Camera phone shipments in China has been slow, lagging behind Japan and Korea. However, according to research published by Lyra Research on 20 October, (http://www.tekrati.com/research/News.asp?id=7961) camera phone shipments are poised for “explosive growth” in China and India, so NeoMedia’s timing is great, so long as it gets on to the best-selling camera phones.
Also the extraordinary phenomenon of MySpace-type social networking is yet to hit China, but as four times more Chinese people own mobile phones than PCs, it’s come via mobile first. It’s not clear though whether the enthusiasm for social networking via mobile will translate into outdoor events.

>And very slowly once again I will explain you are wrong. Qode can not even take a >picture of a QR code as we speak can it? They intend to adopt it to all codes in the >future, but IT CAN NOT READ THEM AT THIS TIME
true.. true...
But just a thought... what if another printable code is adopted over time to replace the QR code? Looking further ahead... what of RFID?
Brew.. it's true.. Qode is not firing on all cylinders when it comes to operation, but I can't name a competitior within the sphere on the European and US fronts which is functioning on a wider range of handsets with a greater degree of functionality.
You are right though... time is ticking.
Please go back and read Neom's patents...
And examine post #96746 from N E O M
----------
Once more,
Again from our very first patent:
After the two-dimensional bar code data is scanned by the scanner 34, a decoder 36 is used to decode the raw data into usable commands and data. The decoder is typically a software program executed by the microprocessor of the computer, and provides thereby to an Internet browser 40 the URL which had been encoded by the vendor into the symbol 12. The browser 40 application is then loaded (if not already running on the computer 32) by the launch command, and the URL is used to access the Web site of the vendor accordingly at the target server computer 46 via the Internet 44. <b/>
As a result, the user may automatically access the vendor's Web site to obtain a computer file therein without having to enter the URL by a keyboard, thus eliminating all chances of error due to manual data input. The requested file is obtained from file storage and generation means 50, and sent to the client computer via the Internet for display to the user on the browser 40.
The whole point is AUTOMATION! Better, faster, cheaper, easier, more robust....
I believe we are covered!
I encourage all to go back and read the first patent as I have and you will note an incredible level of detail! (as is evidenced in the small snippet above).
To me it is highly unlikely that these intelligent and highly skilled and devoted people did not think of something like this!
Might be a reference to GPS applications rather than mobile web 'navigation'
I jumped through some hoops and hacked it onto a Moto E2
(don't try this at home - not supported).
Everything works great except for the reader which naturally gives me some event thread call issues.
In order to ascertain number of download links, one would probably need to know every link associated with each supported handset.
Just for fun...
Any field reports on 1D UPC code usage with Qode?
I wish NEOM would engage a real web design team.
clawmann,
You are a valuable asset to this board.
Thanks for everything.
N E O M,
Brilliant.
Anyone with a compatible phone can try here...

>"What I did say quite clearly though is they own zero patents for these other codes >and are limited to decoding them period"
Phew! I bet Microsoft is glad that the QR Codes are open then thanks to the patent not being exercised by Denso Wave!
>"And do you think the postal service using QRs is violating NEOMs patents? I doubt >it seriously, and we know they arent paying NEOM licensing fees, so just how much >does NEOM control this bridge?"
Absolutely!
Neither is FedEx paying liscencing fees for their mobile code reading devices... nor is JC Penny paying liscencing fees for their in store scanner, nor is Borders paying for their scanning with in store CD listening stations.
Because none of them is traversing NEOM's ip.
Certainly possible, though for many, the appeal of Qode is the fact that the required hardware is ubiquitous (namely the cellphone) and in the hands of people already!
Just one guy's opinion...
I don't know if there will be a big KABOOM pr... or that we should expect one.
Seems to me like a hangover from TS's pumping days where he kept promising a 'big deal' was just around the corner.
Qode may simply slowly grow into what we hope it to be.
---
Or I could be totally wrong.
This article basically states Neomedia should focus on making itself a proper market player with real direction instead of relying on their patents which may or may not be able to help them survive.
You are missing nothing my friend!
I, and many others agree with you... No one will want ads on their mobile phone.
Especially unsolicited ads... they are annoying. This is what we call "Push" based mobile marketing.
"Pull" is what Qode offers. Where if you WANT to recieve more information, make a purchase or access content from a physical object, you CAN! It's marketing driven by the consumer. The world will become your yellow pages... and so much more.
You are right.. however, in exposing the company whose technology they are employing can be thought of be some of these companies as 'showing their hand'. Of course you and I know it doesn't take much detective work to find out said information, but I have had experiences with many of the marketing departments in larger companies whose thinking is often along these lines. Big organisations can breed some odd cultures.
