Is the FDA barking up the wrong tree, or have they just gone to the dogs(they might have to)?
Just got an email from a friend about Stromectol (Invermectin), post #21167

Ivermectin, FDA-approved... The medicine is widely available.
“As the virologist who was part of the team who were first to isolate and share SARS-CoV-2 outside of China in January 2020, I am excited about the prospect of Ivermectin being used as a potential drug against COVID-19.”

The "Interferon Phenomenon"
April 4, 2020
An infectious diseases doctor muses on COVID-19
"I recently retired from my 45-year career as an Infectious Diseases consultant and.... No one has, so far as I can tell talked about some curious aspects of this outbreak.
"Why don't all people in closed settings like in Wuhan or on the Diamond Princess cruise ship acquire the virus? Three explanations occur to me.
"B) The well-known interferon phenomenon has been known for at least 50 years. It seems that a cell infected with many kinds of viruses produces proteins that cause itself and nearby cells to become resistant to being infected with other unrelated viruses. The interferon effect lasts for weeks.
I’m envisioning widespread influenza infection in a population followed shortly by the introduction of COVID-19. The new virus would not be able to infect most of the people exposed, truncating the infection as has apparently happened in Wuhan itself as well as in Korea, Japan, and Singapore during their winter influenza seasons."

"I'm not that optimistic about hydroxychloroquine. It's not really clear it's having a clinic effect," former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Wednesday. "I hope it works, but I think a lot of the enthusiasm is because it's available, so people are over-interpreting the data, because it's on the shelf."
HadToHavit said(#21071) "If a hospital were to incorporate Cytosorb, how many machines that facilitate its use would they have ?
Does a hospital have the expertise and training to put Cytosorb in play when many are going to require it?"
Insufficient # of machines and trained staff and lack of ctso production capacity too, under pandemic conditions?
Raptor, that's a good idea - maybe better for smaller/mid-size, less affected communities? Not sure if it'd work in Mega-cities especially where the mayors' policies were late to the dance. Seems like that would require (1)FDA nod and (2)private sector coordination. And real soon. Too innovative for Federal level gov't minds? Then give it to the states/counties/towns.
So, the FDA needs pills/syringes(see below), lots of pills/syringes that don't require machines&staff, under pandemic conditions?
But, Chan did say they're working 24/7 and hospitals across the country have requested cytosorb filters.
Me thinks pieces of the puzzle are missing. I don't know. Beats me.

Amarex Assists with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for COVID-19 Treatment
In the past week Amarex worked with client CytoDyn to prepare, submit and achieve FDA approval for an EUA for CytoDyn’s leronlimab, a monoclonal antibody product, as a POTENTIAL treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Amarex CEO, Dr. Kazem Kazempour, explained, “Cytodyn’s product has the POTENTIAL to control the body’s hyper-immune response to coronavirus infection which contributes to life threatening side-effects of the disease.”
Amarex has been working with CytoDyn for several years on the development of leronlimab as a treatment for HIV infection, and several other disease indications, and the drug has demonstrated a favorable safety profile in clinical trials to date. Dr. Kazempour added, “Leronlimab has the POTENTIAL to help the most severe cases of COVID-19 and we are very hopeful for the patients currently in need and grateful for the swift action of the FDA for the EUA approval. Two patients have already been treated and we are waiting to learn the effect”.
CytoDyn has a good supply of the drug available and the ability to ramp up manufacturing quickly if it appears to be effective for treating COVID-19. Amarex’s Sr. VP of Clinical Operations, Dr. Kush Dhody, added, “ Amarex is spearheading the effort to obtain FDA approval for expanded emergency use of the drug and coordinate supply of the drug to the hospitals and clinics.”
Additionally, Amarex has submitted a rush IND application for leronlimab as a treatment of adult patients with mild-to-moderate symptoms of respiratory illness caused by COVID-19. If approved this will result in a Phase 2, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study.

5 Extraordinary Measures We Should Take to Help Health Workers Fight COVID-19
"Hospitals should coordinate with state and local officials to provide an option for external housing near the facility, so that nurses and doctors may self-isolate and prevent spread of the virus to family members.
"..health care workers need guaranteed workman’s compensation for exposure resulting in quarantine or illness without using paid time off or vacation hours. Hazard pay should be considered for those on high-risk units.
"Hospital ethics boards must establish clear guidelines for crisis decision-making, to prevent moral distress. Psychologists and spiritual advisers should be readily available to provide counsel. Managers should ensure appropriate staffing and adequate breaks, meals, and time off to recover.
"State legislatures should loosen restrictions on professional licensure regulations, allow for licensed personnel from other states, suspend restrictions on advanced practice nurses, and expedite licensure for retired medical professionals.

Giacomino Nicolazzo is one of Italy’s most beloved writers.
As I sit here in my involuntary isolation, it was just reported that overnight 743 more people died and 5.249 new cases have been reported. This brings the total cases of infection to 69,176 and the body count to 6,820. We take relief in knowing that 8,326 people have recovered so far. (Numbers as of 3/24, 8:30 pm in Italy.)
Most towns here in Italy, from the upper reaches of the Alps to the ancient shores of Sicilia and Sardenia, while not deserted, are closer to being ghost towns than the bustling centers of tourism, business and daily life they were just a few weeks ago.
Stores and shops have been shuttered. Restaurants and coffee shops no longer serve customers. Schools, universities, sporting arenas…even our museums and theaters…all closed.
Beginning in about 2014, Matteo Renzi, the imbecile ex-mayor of Firenze (Florence) acting as the leader of the Partito Democratico (synonymous with the Italian Communist party), somehow managed to get himself elected as Italy’s Prime Minister. To give you a proper frame of reference, Matteo Renzi was so far left, he would make Barack Obama look like Barry Goldwater!
In 2014, China infused the Italian economy with €5 billion through purchases of companies costing less than €100 million each. By the time Renzi left office (in disgrace) in 2016, Chinese acquisitions had exceeded €52 billion. When the dust settled, China owned more than 300 companies…representing 27% of the major Italian corporations.
The Bank of China now owns five major banks in Italy..Chinese state entities own Italy’s major telecommunication corporation (Telecom) as well as its major utilities (ENI and ENEL)...China also now owns controlling interest in Fiat-Chrysler, Prysmian and Terna..
But the sector in which Chinese companies invested most was Italy’s profitable fashion industry..Throughout all of these purchases and acquisitions, Renzi’s government afforded the Chinese unrestricted and unfettered access to Italy and its financial markets, many coming through without customs inspections. Quite literally, tens of thousands of Chinese came in through Milano..
Thousands more were allowed to enter and disappeared into shadows of Milano and other manufacturing cities of Lombardy, only to surface in illegal sewing shops, producing knock-off designer clothes and slapping ‘Made In Italy’ labels on them. All with the tacit approval of the Renzi government.
..thousands of Chinese, the majority from Wuhan, began arriving in Milano.
In December of last year, the first inklings of a coronavirus were noticed in Lombardy…in the Chinese neighborhoods. There is no doubt amongst senior medical officials that the virus was brought here from China.
Senator Klobuchar shares the story of her husband's bout with coronavirus
“I think a lot a people have it worse than we did, in that he got out of the hospital," Klobuchar said on CNN.
"He had a temperature over 100 degrees for ten days, and then he ended up going in after he was coughing up blood for tests and X-rays. They checked him right away and said he had pneumonia. And he was on oxygen for four or five days, and then somehow turned the corner, and he’s now recovering at home. They still don’t know when he won't be contagious, so I am going to go wave to him outside the window."
Just thinking.

How Mayor De Blasio Botched NYC's Response To COVID-19
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/how-bill-de-blasio-botched-nycs-response-covid-19
Just my opinion
This is intentional. So, someone wiped the net clean of the young man at Pennsylvania?
And hardly a recent peep from Germany or China?
Not a word in the media.
Walks like a blackout, talks like a blackout. A blackout.
It's eerie, everybody is marching in orderly silence, while people are dying horrible deaths.
Why?
Pitch forks and torches?
If people found out
(1)about the life saving filter
(2)that the FDA, BARDA, etc. blew us off (the EU did not) - no stockpiling, as Trump said yesterday.
(3)and, ergo, that production cannot possibly meet today's need
(4)and, basically,that it's too late, Joe.
there would be a blood curdling scream from coast to coast.
Cuomo just said, "It's too late to do the preparation"
"Who gets a filter?" I guess we should ask the eugenics crowd.
Naturally, accusations would arise that the gov't is probably hoarding(remote triage) filters for "Continuance of Government"
Who was it who said, They promise that they'll rule us well. But, they intend to rule.
Afterall, if - according to Chan - they're running 24/7 (and hospitals have requested the filter), where are these filters going? Have you heard a peep? Where're the hospital reports, where specifically are these filters shipped, whose lives have been saved? Where's the tearful, happy family on TV?
Are they wiping those from the hospital records too? Or are the filters just NOT being wasted on the dirty fingernail crowd?
Judging by the blackout, what filters? They don't even exist.
I do not know that the above is true, but I do know that what is going on does not make sense, ethical/otherwise.
Would you be shocked? I for one would not, and have honestly expected it, since filter production #s came out, with fingers futilely crossed.
In the future, I'll try to follow the clinical outcomes of elites who get infected - political, business, hollywood, military brass, etc.
I doubt Chan would blackout his own product.
By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.
all the above, imho, but somethin'ain't right.
If you have a different idea, I have an open mind. Please disprove my hypotheticals. That would be welcomed.
(The governors of Michigan and Nevada outlawed HCQ. Maybe somebody should have Vinny check the trunks of their cars.)

Bahrain, Belgium Report COVID-19 Treatment Touted By Trump Is Working For Patients
"..its impact has been "profound," according to the Bahrain News Agency."
"..hydroxychloroquine was administered according to the same regimens as those used in China and South Korea.
"Meanwhile in Europe, another U.S. ally, Brussels, is reporting similar early success with the same drug and is taking steps to ensure its availability

Plaquenil/hydroxychloroquine/HCQ
More than six million tablets of hydroxychloroquine sulfate donated by the Israeli drug company Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.
have arrived in the U.S. and are currently being shipped to national wholesalers to be distributed to American hospitals, a spokesperson for Teva confirmed to Breitbart News.
three national wholesalers – ABC, Cardinal and McKesson.
Ten million tablets in total are slated to arrive in the U.S. within a month as part of Teva’s donation.

The CDC's director Robert Redfield told staff there was 'low' risk to the American public and the virus was 'not spreading.' But an analysis suggests it was already spreading then
Orange#20660> "Thanks FDA! Just imagine if the FDA approved Cytosorb for EAP 4.5 years ago. It is an F'n shame. If it is proven to be an effective treatment for COVID-19 related ARDS, heads should roll at the FDA."
Probably too busy with Big Daddy and Boss Hog from Big Pharma talkin'up dem'hot research grants and pet projects. Follow the money, the "movers & shakers".
Bring back the gallows. No, better yet, put them to work in the ICUs, morgues or a crematoria.
I'm upset.
I'm sure you read that, in order to preserve medical staff, hospitals are considering do-not-resuscitate for COVID. Is that euthanasia?
That filter could've been their only chance.
Did you read that they have to strap people to their beds because they get real physical while they're drowning to death? How's that for "movers & shakers", Dr. Fauci?
Looks like the young man at Pennsylvania(cytosorb there) will live. Maybe not much left of his lungs.
Too late for containment, too late for 10,000s. CDC dropped the ball early - Send those petulant drips & prima donnas packin', and give it back to the states. wanna bet they got all the HCQ(Plaquenil) and Z-packs they want? My primary Care turned me down.
My disgust is giving way to real fear here. I just got over the flu(yea, had CDC's flu shot! :)). Immune system is weak.
techxen(#20576), I agree about beds/ventilators.
The logistics-cost paradigm can change for Gov. Cuomo (future Hero of Gotham City?)
Less time (days not weeks) in a bed, freeing up that spot for the next one,
effectively improving the bed shortage metrics. Less time on ventilation, lower staff&med costs per patient; fewer deaths
and less possibility of triage and so on.
Further on the upside, I'm glad this pr came out before end of quarter.
On the downside, I regret I'll have to return this drone I bought.
fwiw, nowhere have I read that 7,000/month was based on 3 shifts' production, 5 business day week.
5d(24hr)(4bus.weeks) = 480 hours/month to produce 7000 filters/month.
That's only producing about 15 filters per hour.
For 2 shifts, about 22 filters/hr.
For 1 shift, about 44 filters/hr.
I think I got that right. Now, how many production workers do they have?
Yea, Chan has been talking about gaining production efficiencies too.
Chan had foresight.
Smart of him to build this new factory, in hindsight.
Maybe next time Chan will add some color about production.

from Baxter
THERANOVA was designed to filter a wider range of molecules from the blood than conventional hemodialysis filters, targeting the removal of large middle molecules (25 kDa to < 60 kDa) that may be associated with inflammation and cardiovascular health for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients...THERANOVA is an investigational device in the United States, and is not approved for commercial sale in that market. HDx enabled by THERANOVA is available in Canada and select European, Latin American and Asian markets.

KCRoyal2004,
I entered the name of each speaker (non USA) followed by the word "cytosorb". Lots of hits.
Scroll away.
At the bottom of the website, I see one filter producer and a lot of manufacturers of machines that can use the filter.
This, in a room full of speakers who are all very familiar with the filter.
My question - why are there 4 American speakers, if the FDA hasn't approved the filter here?
What's going on? There's one thing that also bothers me. I'll get to that.

KCRoyal,
Teeny weeny Cytosorbent is amongst some pretty big companies there - Medtronics, GE, Getinge, Baxter, Philips...
Some American companies, but no FDA approval yet.

I don't see a Chinese filter company listed at bottom.
How do we watch this on Saturday, eastern standard time?
How about all of New york City as a FDA clinical trial site?
Any word from Dr. Fauci about that yet?

HydroxyChloroquine(Plaquenil, expensive brand)
It is available in generic and brand versions. Generic hydroxycholoquine is covered by most Medicare and insurance plans, but some pharmacy coupons or cash prices may be lower. The lowest GoodRx price for the most common version of hydroxychloroquine is around $20.41, 88% off the average retail price of $177.73.

I read using this with Z-pack is best.
Someone also recommended a zinc supplement in addition; something about interfering w/ viral replication.

The dose for malaria prevention is 400 mg every week starting 1 or 2 weeks before exposure and for 4 weeks after leaving the high risk area.
The usual adult dose for treating malaria is 800 mg initially, followed by 400 mg 6-8 hours later and then 400 mg at 24 hours and 48 hours.
Initial estimates suggest symptoms begin after exposure from 2 – 14 days with an average of 5 days.

Someone posted new factory - 7,000 filters/month
Company official said this was 4X production of old factory (1,750/month)
" " they could convert old factory back to filters
(The above not include awareness of 2nd or 3rd shifts)
That would peak at 8,750 filters per month. Or, 105,000 per year

CDC Coronavirus Testing Decision To Haunt Nation
"Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in early February distributed 200 test kits it had produced to more than 100 public health labs run by states and counties nationwide...oddly out of sync with where testing was needed.
"..places like New York, Boston, Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area — all in the throes of serious outbreaks ? couldn’t get enough tests to screen
"..officials in New York City and such states as New York, Washington, Pennsylvania and Georgia confirmed to Kaiser Health News that they each initially got one test kit, calling into question whether they would have even stood a chance to contain the outbreaks
"They would soon discover that the tests they did receive were flawed, lacking critical components and delivering faulty results...
"During those early weeks, the virus took off, infecting thousands of people and leading to nationwide social distancing and sheltering in place. Public health officials are just beginning to grapple with the fallout from that early bungling of testing, which is likely to haunt the country in the months to come.
