Jeebus, you try and pretend you are rational at the start of your post, but by the end of it, you have given yourself away as a nutjob. LOL
FPG, Neolib & other Anyone But Intel loonies from Silicon Investor boards still believe this.
I'm only talking about Win 8.x vs Win 9 from the perspective of the consumer.
Whilst Microsoft have already begun to take steps to fix Win 8, seeing such significant updates also makes me want to hold out for Win 9 even more, because if Win 9 isn't quite right at launch, it will also likely receive such updates.
But if I go with Win 8.x now, then I won't be able to get the improvements that Win 9 and updates brings, without having to pay and upgrade my O/S.
I'd rather wait and do a clean install with Win 9 & live with that and whatever updates it brings.
It is good to hear that Win 8.x brings certain performance enhancements(which presumably will also carry over to Win 9.x), but I am already quite happy with Win 7 performance, it is the interface which is the big issue with Win 8.
Tanks. ;p
If Intel can win in Smartphones, then that will be the beginning of the end of the ARMy and with it, the threat of ARM taking significant Desktop or Server share away from Intel.
For now, Smartphones is the beachhead that allows the ARMy to have the financial backing of trying to expand into other areas.
If Microsoft can make Win 9 be seen to be the kind of improvement that people saw Win 7 being over Vista, the 2nd half of 2015 should be very strong for Intel.
I'm holding off on any next PC purchase till at least Win 9 comes out and this also applies to a few friends of mine.
Whether it is rational or not, Win 8 is really seen as poison by so many regular computer users who just love Win 7.
It would appear that the beautiful friendship between Ashraf and Mr Nenni is over. ;p
Well according to FPG, college students would have no issue doing all that work on their ARM powered smartphones.
Yet somehow you don't see Intel being a player here.
You may not have known at the time of his post, but Ashraf's follow up post about the matter to you, should have made it clear that he wasn't just making numbers up.
I hope an apology will be incoming for David.
It's flawed thinking alright.
No one is buying devices because they have ARM processors in them, they are buying devices because of the respective eco-systems and "coolness" factor of Apple & Android.
At least if Microsoft's tablet versions were based on x86 Windows, people might be buying the tablets thinking that they might choose to run some of their PC software on the tablet, whether they actually ever do or not.
I can't help but think that Microsoft would prefer to see ARM take over from Intel as the dominant CPU architecture for things that matter, so Microsoft are doing their little bit to help them achieve that.
What benefit does Microsoft stand to get from pushing an ARM version of Windows, especially in light of what they forego by not being able to sell an x86 compatible version of Windows on a tablet?
Do they think that they can make a killing selling APPS at their APP Store or something?
If so, do they believe that the APPS have to be for Win RT, as opposed to being for Win x86?
Why not BayTrail?
Seems Microsoft is doing all it can to promote ARM.
fpg said that College kids would have no issue typing out a PhD thesis on a smartphone. LOL
Nothing wrong with being accurate.
LOL
Damn, those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride.
What's wrong with that? Do you get off on having your phone constantly attached to the charger?
A friend of mine was complaining that she had to recharge her iPhone 5, after 5 hrs of usage(viewing the net, playing basic games) and that kind of poor energy efficiency/endurance is largely why I haven't even been tempted to get a smartphone yet.
Would love to see if Intel through design & process superiority, could quadruple the endurance of these phones(not sure how much is SoC & how much is screen), as that is something I would certainly value very much.
What do you mean by "endurance"?
You keep giving him love. ;p
Was Red Dwarf ripping off Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and their "42" ?
Would have been nice if Intel could have used their fab advantages to lead the way into taking over the mainstream SSD market.
Intel sure are taking their sweet time to dominate in SSD.
Also, rather than just quote a sentence from Russ Fischer, please provide a link to his article.
Francois also compared Haswell to Conroe and when I questioned him about that shortly after official benchmarks, he claimed that Haswell would see the biggest rush of consumers purchasing PC devices(since Conroe), due to the myriad of new form factors that Haswell made possible.
I would say he bombed out on that one too.
I don't know, I'm running it on my PC.
How many loops does WebXPRT go through?
I stopped it as it went to start Loop 6
Link would be good. :)
Intel were still Moblin/MeeGo only, right up till the time that Nokia dumped them.
Who the hell was supposed to be the main software developer of the Moblin/MeeGo operating system going forward?
Intel were going to become the new King of Mobile O/S's? Preposterous.
I find it utterly ridiculous that Intel had so many of its mobile eggs in the MeeGo basket.
Another sign of how out of touch the Intel mobile team has been in recent years.
Didn't we hear recently that Intel were aiming BayTrail at high end tablets as a primary objective????
Obviously they never took your advice about Tri-Cores
How long before Nvidia is vulnerable enough to be purchased by Intel?
If Intel is ramping up its GPU efforts with Gen 8, Gen 9 and presumably Gen 10, Gen 11 etc, what then does Nvidia bring to the party?
Also if Nvidia was purchased in 4 years time by Intel, it would probably be another 3 or so years before Intel could produce products based on Nvidia technology, so in 7 years time, how far away are we from Ray Tracing?
Once Ray Tracing is widely available, isn't that the end of GPU's as we know it?
Pffffft to your i3. You should have went with Kadaveri and experienced the awesome power of HSA.
Is it any different to when someone says "Kids these days", as a reference to people much younger than themselves?
I really can't do without VLC.
Nothing else runs so many video files with different codecs.
Nice to see they gave you a mention. :)
Now of course your reputation as a stock manipulator will only grow. LOL
I'm still rockin' my Nokia 3200.

FPG thinks Uni students would be happy enough to type out their Thesis on a smartphone, so they can avoid the "Wintel Tax". LOL
