10 Top Technology Dogs Sniff 12.73% More Return From 5 Lowest-Priced As Of October 13
Oct. 16, 2015 4:59 AM ET | Includes: CNSL, CTL, FTR, GRMN, PHI, QSII, STM, T, TEO, WIN
Disclosure: I am/we are long T. (More...)
Summary
$5k invested in the lowest-priced five of ten top-yield technology dividend dogs showed 12.73% higher net gain than from $5k put in all ten.
Annual dividends divided by closing stock prices as of October 13 determined yields. Analyst median target prices were used to calculate gains one year out.
The five lowest-priced high-yield technology stocks are FTR, WIN, STM, QSII, and TEO.
Five higher-priced stocks completing the ten top high-yield technology issues are CNSL, CTL, T, GRMN, and PHI.
Consider these stocks reference points for your October technology stock investment investigation.
Ten Top Technology Talents
This article refined and distinguished this earlier report that revealed Small, Mid, and Large cap utilities bargain stocks to buy and hold for one year. Small cap firms were valued at $200M(illion) to $2B(illion), Mid cap firms were worth $2B to $10B, and Large caps were valued above $10B.
See the Dow 30 article for an explanation of the term "dogs" for stocks reported, based on Michael B. O'Higgins' book "Beating The Dow" (HarperCollins, 1991), now named Dogs of the Dow. O'Higgins' system works to find bargains in any collection of dividend-paying stocks. Utilizing analyst price upside estimates expanded the stock universe to include popular growth equities, as desired.
Dog Metrics Dug Up Bargains
Ten small, mid, and large cap technology equities were culled by yield from here. Yield (dividend / price) results verified by Yahoo Finance did the ranking.

Actionable Conclusions: Analysts Allege 5 Lowest-Priced of Top Ten Highest-Yield Technology Dividend Dogs (1) Generate 20.09% vs. (2) 17.82% Net Gains by All Ten by October 13, 2016

$5000 invested as $1k in each of the five lowest-priced stocks of the top ten technology dividend kennel by yield were predicted by analyst 1-year targets to deliver 12.73% more net gain than $5,000 invested as $.5k in all ten. The fifth lowest-priced utilities dividend dog, Telecom Argentina S.A. (NYSE:TEO), was projected to deliver the most net gain of 29.88%.
The five lowest-priced technology dividend dogs for October 13 were: Frontier Communications (NASDAQ:FTR); Windstream Corp. (NASDAQ:WIN); STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM); Quality Systems (NASDAQ:QSII); and Telecom Argentina S.A., with prices ranging from $5.15 to $14.66.
Five higher-priced technology dividend dogs for October 13 were: Consolidated Communications Holdings (NASDAQ:CNSL); CenturyLink Inc. (NYSE:CTL); AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T); Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ:GRMN); and Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (NYSE:PHI), whose prices ranged from $19.66 to $47.91.
This distinction between five low-priced dividend dogs and the general field of ten reflects the "basic method" Michael B. O'Higgins employed for beating the Dow. The same technique may also be used to find the more rewarding dogs in the utilities kennel.
The added scale of projected gains based on analyst targets contributed a unique element of "market sentiment" gauging upside potential. It provided a "here and now" equivalent of waiting a year to find out what might happen in the market. It's also the work analysts got paid big bucks to do.
A caution is advised, however, as analysts are historically 20-80% accurate on the direction of change and about 0-20% accurate on the degree of change.
The stocks listed above were suggested only as reference points for a small, mid, and large cap technology equities dividend stock investment research process in October 2015. These were not recommendations.
The gains/declines as reported did not factor in any tax problems resulting from dividend, profit, or return of capital distributions. Consult your tax advisor regarding the source and consequences of "dividends" from any investment.
