It just occurred to me that the telephone number for Epiq I had was in Houston Texas. If the e-mail went there, the reply was even more immediate: 11:41 a.m., not quite an hour and half after I sent it.
The reply came almost immediately: on March 2nd. I sent both forms by courier - TNT, I believe - on Feb. 29th, so they must've arrived on March 1st. To be doubly sure, I sent scanned copies by e-mail on March 2nd, 10:14 a.m. and got the e-mail reply in direct response to that at 6:41 p.m., which would have been 12:41 p.m. New York time (I'm in Berlin). The reply was signed:
Gregory Winter
Case Manager
Epiq | Corporate Restructuring
It came from this e-mail addy: LBHI-Noticing@epiqsystems.com
I submitted those forms by the 4th and got this e-mail reply:
Thank you for your submission. However, we do not require your W9 and OFAC forms to be submitted to Epiq. Any payments you are entitled to receive will be coming directly from Bank of New York Mellon, as trustee.
I thought so, too, but just want to be extra double sure. Plus, I know neither BNYM nor my broker has an OFAC from me.
OT: I used to live around the corner from what used to be the real Cabaret in Berlin. It was called the "El Dorado". Now it's the El Dorado health food store. And Brian and Sally's apartment is there, too. The owner of the Friedrichstadt musical theater - biggest in Germany - lives there, now. His little son has Sally's room. The building was spared destruction in WW2.
Everybody says the CTs get annihilated, but as I understood it, they simply no longer count as Tier 1 capital. Of did I get that wrong?
Yeah, I saw that it had already been posted and talked about. The wire services are supposed to deliver only breaking news for other news outlets to publish. I don't know why they were so slow on this one. Thought maybe it was some new angle, but no!
Anyway, don't shoot me - I'm just the messenger.
This just came over the wire services: JPMorgan Chase pays $1.42 billion to settle most of Lehman Bros. suit: court document
(I work for a new channel and have access to the wire services for breaking news.)
As I understand it, the subordinated debentures LEHMAN issued to the trust are the BK claim, NOT the CTs. Remember: the trust issued the CTs and sold them to the public to raise the cash to lend to Lehman in return for the subordinated debentures. The trust also issued common shares that gave Lehman the controlling interest in the trust, making it a separate legal entity entirely under Lehman control. Is that correct? Does this help clear up the "in BK, not in BK" issue?
It was originally Ó Leabhaimaíhny, but they changed it when they immigrated to make it easier to spell and pronounce.
OMG! There are two of us! I'm another lurker who's read every word here for seven years and lives in Germany.
Ines, did E-Trade actually use this exact word: "reincorporated"?
Thanks for the tip, Dine! That's what I'll do!
OK, mine are back in my Ameritrade account! I sent them an e-mail this morning asking about it - also using the "Fidelity's already done it - why haven't you?" tactic. They never responded, but now my J's are all present and accounted for!
But seriously, how could we NOT be listed as the shareholder of record! I mean technically, none of these shares are even trading. They're escrow positions.
I think I saw a basher's handbook floating around somewhere on I-hub that explains in great detail how bashers do their jobs (when they do them properly). This guy's employer isn't going to be at all happy with the quality of his work!
You've heard all about the NSA - now here's the NSE! (USA Today's reporting on Fuld's presentation):
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2015/05/28/dick-fuld-lehman-brother-national-stock-exchange/28079427/
OK, I've just GOTTA have a look at my account balance! I know it doesn't mean anything, but just for the cheap thrill of it, to heave a sigh and dream!
LORTAP, some months ago, you said you knew what the "real deal" here was. I'm just curious: was that your opinion, based on DD, or were you inspired by something even more substantial? Or are you not at liberty to say?
I went through school with the main fall guy from Enron. He was always the big man on campus - nice guy, but always had to be the best at everything. I guess now he's the big man in the pen. Initials DD, but they had nothing to do with due diligence!
Same here: great to see you posting again. I've been following your posts since 2009 or '10 or whatever. If you're ever in Germany again, drop me a line; maybe we can meet up for a Weizenbier or so. Ich lade ein (my treat).
The joint venture has already been formed. That's the entity known as LBHI2, which includes LBIE and LBHI and other parties, a temporary construct formed for the purpose of collecting excess cash reserves from the affiliates and passing it on to LBHI.
I don't see how those funds will someday be able to benefit LBHI creditors.
On topic: Happy New Year to all, and may 2015 be the year all our Lehman dreams come true (with interest)!
Maybe the CTs are still trading for the very simple reason that they're not included in the bankruptcy. So, there were no legal grounds to halt their trading. What's a mystery to me is why, then, do they have the Q attached? And why were they uplisted to the pinks? I don't subscribe to the view that it was simply because an MM or two were willing to make the market for them. That doesn't fly.
If the Supreme Court is going to be scrutinizing the Clarification Letter, what specifically did the letter say about assuming or not assuming the executory contracts? In particular, our executory contracts? I don't recall ever seeing Barclay explain why they didn't do this or why they shouldn't.
Thanks Cotton! Joe's posts are a fascinating study in propaganda strategies in today's advertizing-jaded corporate America. Thanks for keeping the flame of sanity shining bright!
Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Joyeux Noel, Happy Holidays to all we've been sharing this board with for so many years!
(Guess I'm not only in it for the money, after all.)
The web site has 'recently been listed for sale'. Let's hope the rest of the company has, too.

Old news, but worth repeating - if not stickying:
U.S. vs. Ryan Coblin, 11-80159-CR-RYSKAMP
Coblin, 41, of Boca Raton, was the president of Delivery Technology Solutions Inc., a domestic and international delivery company catering to corporations. Coblin was charged by information in September 2011 and pled guilty on March 8, 2012 to engaging in a scheme to pay kickbacks to a hedge fund fiduciary to induce the fiduciary to misappropriate money from a hedge fund in order to buy restricted common stock at inflated prices. Sentencing is scheduled for July 13, 2012.
You're the one who lives in Miami - why don't you drive up to Boca Raton, run a screwdriver up the sole of its (his) foot and see if it twitches?
You could PM me, I guess. I'm always interested to hear stories about the Wall. Got a few myself. I was among the crowd standing up there, when they stormed it in '89. That's a memory and an experience nobody will ever be able to take away from me!
The underground hangars at Tempelhof were used for the most recent "Tribute of Panem" film. Don't remember the exact title, but my ex-wife was an extra in that scene.
Muchas gracias, as we say here in Berlin. And Frohe Weihnachten and guten Rutsch to all on the board and their loved ones, too! (Guten Rutsch means 'Have a good slide into the new year', but few Berliners realize it's actually derived from the Yiddish way of saying 'Happy New Year'.)
I came to Lehman when the TV station I work for did a report on the one-year anniversary of the bankruptcy (OMG have I been in this that long!?!), and whenever my German colleagues say ANYTHING about stock price movements, I double-check it on the charts, 'cause about 90% of the time, they're wrong. The chart indicators showed that the commons, still trading at the time, were about to blow, so I plowed all my spare powder into them and made more than I did working on the report. Then I re-invested in CTs, adding here and there over the years.
By the way, today's the 70-year anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Bulge. Hats off to the memory of everyone swept up in that madness - on BOTH sides, please!!! So many people see the Germans as the villains. Some were, but the vast majority were victims, too.
No all of it together. I've only caught scenes from it. But it's on my list.
Ummm... it wasn't the Germans - they bombed the Titanic.
Sounds like all that stuff is in the star your hotel is missing. We have it in Germany, though I admit, I'd be hard-pressed to find a Foreigner 8-track here.
Germany censored Frankie and Nat King Cole (got it on CD anyway) but let me watch both Lynyrd Skynyrds. Go figure!
Today's was $600.50 worth. What was yesterday's? Anyone know?
One point I disagree on: it's not stealing from U.S. tax-payers but from everyone who has assets in dollars, whether inside or outside the U.S. This implies the added danger of the dollar losing even more of its status as an international reserve currency.
The fact that the word "timeously" occurred in this text indicates that someone of South African origin wrote it. The word is typical of South Africa but rarely used elsewhere.
An explanation of what? What should I be looking for? I can peruse the German-language news, if that would help. In fact, I work for a news station, so I could theoretically get the news before the news does. Just give me a hint!
