" ....
As is the case with Google’s video, it’s all conceptual and not actually functional. Still, that doesn’t mean Nokia hasn’t been slotting the necessary pieces into place; the company made a deal with Vuzix back in October 2011, allowing the wearable display company to use Nokia’s EPE (Exit Pupil Expanding) optics technology.
“Vuzix will perform on-going research and development and is expected to manufacture and bring to market components ......
............
Since that deal, Nokia and Vuzix have been relatively quiet about the technology, but the eyewear firm did announce a clunky prototype with NEC - shown above – that could overlay social networking and more on top of a real-life view of the world. Like Project Glass, it’s equipped with a front-facing camera, though Vuzix’s STAR series kit is a lot less streamlined than the “design studies” Google has shown.
......."
"That means Vuzix managed to create a display with a higher resolution than the iPad 3, bright enough to be seen in daylight but transparent when switched off. Compare that to efforts by the company just two years ago to sell a significantly worse pair of AR glasses to get an idea of just how far this technology has come in a very short time."
our time will come!!!

We're working as hard on the SMART Glasses and they will be worth the wait."

"Local Company Developing "Smart Glasses"
Rochester, N.Y. – We’ve all heard of smartphones. A local company says the next big thing will be “smart glasses.”
Vuzix is developing glasses that have built-in cameras, Internet connections, GPS and facial recognition software.
You could ask the glasses for the nearest ATM and a line will appear directing you. If you’re in Paris, you could ask the glasses to translate the signs from French into English. The glasses would also be able to read and send emails.
Google is also developing so-called “augmented reality” glasses.
“If they're done right, they could be the next iPhone,” said Vuzix President Paul Travers. “It gives you this amazing experience. People are going to say, ‘How did I do this without this in the past?’ And that's sort of how people feel about their phones today.”
Vuzix has 40 to 50 workers. It’s main customer is the military. The company sees consumer smart glasses becoming widely available in the next couple years."

Google is reportedly going ahead with manufacturing eyeglasses that display information to the wearer via an embedded screen. The devices were first talked about a few weeks ago; now a new report puts their prices anywhere from $200 to $600, with availability starting later this year. However, Google may not necessarily be the first in the world of wearable heads-up displays.

Reports that Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is working on special glasses that will stream information to a display in one lens in real time have once again surfaced.
The glasses will hit retail shelves by the end of the year, The New York Times reported.
They will be priced in about the same ballpark as new smartphones, meaning they'll likely fall into the US$250 to $600 price range.
The glasses will reportedly run on Android.
"The technology is not that far away for glasses that would even include enough processing [power] to support Android or other OSes," Paul Travers, founder, CEO and president of video eyeware maker Vuzix, told TechNewsWorld.
Google did not respond to our request for comment for this story.
Possible Details of the Google Glasses
The so-called Google Glasses will reportedly include a small screen that will sit very close to the wearer's eye.
They will apparently sport a 3G or 4G connection and several sensors, including a motion sensor and GPS.
The glasses will also reportedly have a low-resolution built-in camera that can overlay information about locations, surrounding buildings, and nearby friends.
Augmented reality technology will let the glasses tap into various Google products. The glasses will interact with data in the cloud.
Striving to Be First
Google's not alone in working on enhanced glasses. Vuzix has a $1 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop prototype glasses of this sort.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Vuzix also announced SMART Glasses, a line of sunglasses that would integrate HD displays and waveguide optics. The glasses will work with devices connected to the Internet and will be able to be used at night or outdoors in full daylight.

lets hope so ...

Google Could Sell Stylish Augmented Reality Glasses this Year
Posted by Dave
February 22, 2012
Thanks to being one of the world’s largest companies, Google has the time and money to throw at highly-secretive, cutting edge projects. It currently has several in development, but one in particular that has come to light recently is a set of ‘stylish’ Augmented Reality glasses.
The product is said to resemble everyday sunglasses, though with masses of tech crammed in. The lenses will be capable of doing their regular job of, you know, being see-through, but will also be able to display translucent images as a HUD, or ‘Heads-up Display’.
Using a form of data connection – presumably either 3G or 4G – the eyewear will be able to show things like weather updates, restaurant reviews and more on the screen. Augmented Reality will work with tiny cameras to detect what you’re looking at, and Google’s online services can then kick in to show information. The eyewear is also expected to provide street-level navigation, and even video recording, which could make them the ideal covert video capture device!
For those who aren’t too sure, Augmented Reality, or AR, is a technology that can take a real world surrounding, and overlay a digital source. For example, a product could use cameras to feed your actual surroundings to a screen in front of your face, and Augmented Reality software could throw in digital elements such as animals or surroundings. We’ve seen this done with products like Vuzix’s AR eyewear before.
How soon can we expect to see this sort of technology? Well, AR tech has been around for a while, but it seems Google’s product will be going on sale this year. Unnamed Google employees recently confirmed to the New York Times that the product would launch later this year, costing “around the price of current smartphones”. Of course, you can pick up a smartphone for as little as £100 nowadays, though most fall into the price range of £300-£500, and that’s the price range we think Google will be aiming for.
With a large share in the smartphone market thanks to its Android operating system, it’s highly likely that this product will pair with your Android smartphone using Bluetooth or NFC to provide a feed of your text messages, Facebook and Twitter updates and perhaps even more.
Are you excited for this type of product? What would you like to be able to see in your Google Goggles?
