xbitlabs fixes misleading headline:
CPU AMD’s Fusion On Track for 2009 – AMD’s Chief Technologist [CORRECTED]. Graphics Processor – The Next Math Co-Processor, Says AMD
Category: CPU
by Anton Shilov
[ 01/16/2007 | 11:45 PM ]
CORRECTION: A spokesperson for AMD said that InfoWorld web-site incorrectly quoted Phil Hester as saying that the first commercial Fusion processors emerge in late 2009. Insted, the company stressed that the first products to combine general purpose and graphics processors will be produced in early 2009. InfoWorld web-site, which incorrectly quoted Mr. Hester, has corrected its interview...

Windsock - That's one of the silliest things I've heard.
Elmer - Maybe. You may have caught me at a bad time. Sorry.
Elmer - I asked a question, and you didn't even attempt to answer it, but instead attacked my integrity. That looks pretty insulting to me. wmbmw(whom I thanked for it), on the other hand, answered my question and helped me to see the big picture better.
Elmer - Perhaps instead of being an insulting jerk, you could've offered some helpful info like wbmw did.
wbmw - I doubt it. Why would they tip their hand now? So they can Osborne all their current products? They know they won't have anything for a few months, so why build up the new item too soon? Its time will come. And AMD's.
wbmw - Good points, thanks.
Joe - If the 65nms were all going to OEMs, how would we know what their presence is? It's not like the OEMs say anything about the process used to produce the processor.
wbmw - re: "But let's face the facts. It wasn't exactly up to spec in December, so it's probably not going to be shipping any time soon."
You don't know if it was up to spec or not. Just because they didn't tip their hand doesn't mean you can safely make assumptions...
MSI 690G MB pics, preview upcoming:
http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2908
"After attending a short presentation by AMD on the benefits of their upcoming 690G chipset that features Radeon X1250 graphics capability, we stopped by the MSI booth to view an early board built on this chipset. The initial performance numbers show the 690G easily outperforming the Intel G965 X3000 graphics core, and with some additional driver tuning it should offer a very competitive platform choice when compared to the NVIDIA 6150 boards, along with providing additional features.
The board we viewed was an early design release from MSI and will be marketed at the K9AGM2-FHI. It is a mATX design that features the AMD 690G Northbridge, AMD SB600 Southbridge, Realtek 8111B Gigabit Ethernet, Realtek ALC888 HD audio codec, and IEEE 1394 support from the VIA VT6308P chipset. The 690G chipset features native HDMI output via the integrated transmitter and HDCP support.
Based upon our early viewing of the X1250 graphics capability we have to say that AMD has an excellent solution for the HTCP crowd. The gaming performance was acceptable at 1280x1024 resolutions in both the Half Life 2 and Prey demos while providing more than enough capability for running most RTS and simulation type games. We will have an early preview of this board in the upcoming days."

Joe - Have you considered RAID 0+1? 2 fast drives striped and then mirrored on another 2 drive striped array should perform much better than your RAID 5 setup.
Elmer - Why don't you present your evidence that Intel did make money on it or stop your whining already? There's a lot more evidence to show they didn't than shows they did. Get off the martyr act already.
Elmer - Amazingly, many of us have memories, if not the ability to search posts. "Increased (or increasing?) profitability" doesn't ring a bell to you? It should. Just because no one has provided a link doesn't mean it's not the truth.
Edit: I see jjayxxx provided one already.
wbmw - It was on hkepc.com. Quad core sales story.
A whole bunch until then, very few after that.
drjohn - Not likely yet, since they'll be making them through Q2.
Elmer - AMD made it clear in an article a while back that they had nothing to do with the K8L moniker, that they'd only grudgingly responded to questions about it because the name had caught on like wildfire and it was easier than explaining what was really going on. I imagine they weren't prepared yet to tip their hand, either. So in answer to your question, yes.
Klaus - Sorry, too blind to notice! :)
kpf - imageshack is nothing more than a free image hosting site.

Tenchu - re: "sour grapes" - Hardly, they're just doing fine now that Intel doesn't use flash to punish AMD anymore.
http://www.fabtech.org/content/view/2116/2/
They are what they are now. And most of last year, they had flash revenues in there.
DoU - re: Gather ye rosebuds while ye may
I think it's a little early to write Intel's epitaph just yet. :)
Keith - Don't you know it's "all for show" - desperation! :)
Joey - There was no analyst day, it was just a meeting for the press. The analyst day isn't until December. Check the investor calendar.
EP - Don't worry, brown bananas make great banana bread. I have no doubt AMD will always find the appropriate market for their product, appropriate to its capabilities, and do just fine in the process.
Keith - LE model?
EP - Maybe because it's still listed as 90nm in the specs.
CJ - What difference does it make? Elmer never thinks AMD's yields or binsplits are any good.
And I'm sure when AMD feels like they need your advice on how to treat the channel, they'll ask. Remember, just because there are a few complainers in the channel does not mean that they are the channel.
Funny, when I look at Monarch Computers and ABS(newegg was born out of them), they show the same delivery times for AM2 systems as for 939, as well as Intel Core 2 Duo systems. Guess they're not among the complainer crew.
spaarky - Why? Because they didn't run through 2 process nodes in 2 years you don't think they can get to the next one in 2 years?
Really? And can you tell me where I can buy Intel or AMD "CPG" stocks? Didn't think so.
herb will - And gross margin. And mobile market share gain. And....
herb will - Licking wounds? Hardly. One comes to expect punishment of AMD after CCs regardless of results. Apparently you didn't pay much attention. AMD did better than Intel in many, if not most, metrics.
1.33bn, .27 EPS
Hope it works out for you. And I hope AMD smokes some earnings tomorrow! :)
sgolds - Any luck with that laptop?
mmoy - May be some Barcelona SSE info useful to you here:
http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2006/1013/kaigai311.htm
And you're assuming Barcelona = Altair why?
sgolds - nLite worked well for me to "slipstream"(incorporate into) SP4 with my Win2K CD info. Give it a shot.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/nLite.shtml
sgolds - That doesn't seem to be the overall chipset #, but maybe a somewhat generic southbridge component. Try using their chipset ID utility from here:
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-009266.htm
Then you can go here and see if they have anything for it:
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/#notebook
Hmm...
Looks like it might be 82801GBM, not 82800 1GBM, which looks for one, to be a part of the Intel Mobile 945PM chipset here(assuming no int. graphics, since you said it had GeForce xxxx Go), so look here in the 945PM section:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022034.htm
Those two links will take you to a page where you select OS, then the specific driver package. Actually, the "Storage Matrix Manager" page here:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101
is probably where you need to look, the other has to do with USB and AGP.
