another tough film for HH.
good point.
Starz deal is obviously a great thing but it's not earth-shattering news. Most films of this calibre go to cable TV outlets like HBO & Starz & Showtime so it really was expected. There's no reason the stock should rise on this announcement.
The good news is there will be nice revenue in Q2 of 2011 when the films start playing.
everybody agrees this is an old, outdated, non theatrical release yet most think its worth the time and effort and money to release in 10 cities? explain how that's great for dvd business. maybe a few extra orders in those 10 walmarts? really, this is just a good excuse for a press announcement. there is no benefit in releasing this movie. the critics will have a great time with this and it will make HH look foolish again.
everyone here should look out for this weekends performance of the documentary Waiting For Superman. If it does well in limited release, HH should copy that model.
we shall see. I believe I am correct in my assumption that the press announcement regarding the Moeibus comic book and 2011 release was put out just to get the stink off their latest stumbles.
there's a big downside that can come out of another dismal theatrical release. commissioning a comic book by a design company that has never created a comic isn't exactly a great marketing achievement. HH needs to recognize the films that should be release in theaters and the ones that should not. small marketing budgets equal small boxoffice. we don't need HH practicing that, they have it down to a science already. its been over a year since HH has released a hit DVD title. I believe that's what they should be spending time on.
I know what the press release said but I don't believe this will make it to theaters. this is just my own observation. please watch the preview and then tell everyone your own thoughts on this.
No worries here. This movie will not last "thru" the first weekend in theaters. I believe this film will never make it to movie theaters. This is 6 or 7 year old animation technology. Since Block Buster is going BK, I don't think we'll ever see Moebius Strip on the DVD shelves. My guess, straight to VOD.
all good. just waiting patiently.
Maybe add Joyriders & Christmas In The Clouds to your list. They're supposed to be good films as well.
me too
Very nice. But, I do "know a good post from a bad one". Thanks 9arybusey
good idea. That means we'll guarantee added value to the library in 2016. Hopefully we'll see 2009 audit before then?
I'm getting soft in my old age. I just became a full deck.
Ryan who?
My guess is that there will not be TV ads in the major markets either. Too expensive. If TV ads were made they would probably be on the Wild Hunt internet sites or youtube by now.
not a good strategy Tom.
This is how I was introduced to HH. Went to a preview of the movie in 2008.
Let's get a petition going - "Free CK - Free CK"
Here's a Amazon search result. My guess is that this is a better list of their top titles?

HH's "best sellers" according to their website.

Very nice work there Speck. Thanks for digging out that solid homework for us. I'd like to hear your thoughts on how HH came up with the 16M valuation. You seem to dig up a lot of good information regarding the tough questions posed here on the board so your analysis would be much appreciated by all. So far as I can tell, the auditors have spent approximately 40 hours of time "per title" trying to evaluate each titles actual worth to the company. I hope HH is not paying by the hour?
Big question: If Hogan & Taylor have come up with a fair market value for the library, are the powers that be at HH obligated to disclose that finding?
very nice response. thanks for that Jeff.
Fair answer. Good night Bill.
It is inconceivable to believe that it would take 9 months to come up with an answer. This is not MEANINGFUL information Bill. This is an excuse. I ask again? Anyone with MEANINGFUL information regarding why in the heck it would take this long to audit this library valuation please send my way.
OK, But. I'd like to know how (or why) HH figured the library was worth16M and why they can't easily convince the auditors of that worth. They must have a good reason why they came up with the 16M?
I believe the library valuation was reported to be 16M the time of the merger in Dec. 2009. I don't see why it would take 9 months to either refute it and give a revised number or validate it.
There are plenty of business owners or former CFO's & CEO's that read and post here. Do any of you have meaningful input here?
It's very hard to understand why it would take so long to publish last years numbers? Unless there is something to hide, this should be a very simple procedure. I beg someone to really explain why there is such a delay. This has nothing to do with any new business.
It's confusing because the HH website has Eric as President.

this pact is a big one. very high profile partnership here.
Let's hope they do some TV ads otherwise the poor suckers wont know the movie is in theaters. And, once again I will throw this out there - I don't think this is a 3D with glasses movie. This is a movie that was modeled with 3D animation elements that is intended to be seen at standard theaters. There is a big difference. Lots of animation is created in 3D but exhibited in 2D.
this MOEBIUS STRIP trailer looks a bit dated:
http://www.fantasticfilmsinternational.com/films/moebius-480.html
Cartoon Network raised the bar when they aired Clone Wars series:

yes, but one has to wonder how it stacks up against today's 3D animation? The latest 3D animation shows on Nick, Cartoon Network & Disney Channel are what kids are used to these days. I believe the Moebius animation looks a bit outdated. After all, according to reports online, they started making this movie in the year 2000. A lot has changes in a decade.
on a positive note, they partnered with a major design company for the comic book.
I don't think 6 or 7 year old animation techniques is going to hold up in today's marketplace. It already looks VERY dated. I really think this is a disaster waiting to happen especially if there is any truth to them trying to prove they can make a 70 million dollar 3D Terminator film.
Yes. It is a 3D CGI film. It was animated using 3D modeling techniques but that does not automatically mean it will be "exhibited" in 3D. - i.e. Meant to be watched using 3D glasses.

My opinion is - Run it straight to DVD.
The film was created in a 3D animation environment. But it is intended to be projected traditionally on 2D projectors. Maybe they are converting Mobius?
Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Surf's Up, the original Toy Story are all "3D animated" but they we exhibited in theaters or TV in 2D.
Let's hope they have some money for TV ads. free comic books is a cute idea to promote the movie, but that won't get butts in seats.
I think it is 3D animation but not made to be exhibited in 3D
If HH manages to open Wild Hunt with a respectable per-screen average I believe they will start to gain back a little credibility with both Hollywood and perspective new film producers looking for distribution. When is Wild Hunt release? HH web site still says Sept 27 but others have said it's now ben pushed to October? Maybe they're going for the Halloween crowd?
