luckyluciano77- bet's still on as far as I'm concerned
take a look at some polls as of RIGHT now,,after todays numbers
Virginia: Bush 49% Kerry 46%
North Carolina: Bush 50% Kerry 45%
Missouri: Bush 50% Kerry 46%
Georgia: Bush 53% Kerry 42%
Bush down 2 pts overall after Dem convention & todays numbers, and before Rep convention
Dem convention was a sleeper
no candidate in history has come out of a convention without getting a bump!
until Kerry
3 months till election
alot can & will happen
see you in November
short side consistancy
the past weeks Major_Poppers currently 15 down, 6 up,, Major_Droppers 17 down-5 up,,constant short side profits,,not just because of today's market, but in general this has been the way to go for years..there is risk of getting caught in a boomer up ofc, but overall short side consistancy on popped stocks has really been a site to see.
sometimes it's hard to look at a stock & you just 'know' it's going to go up from all available info as well as historic data, yet as much as 85% of these poppers of either direction give a short side profit within a few days to at most a few weeks.
Until there is an exteme turn of events in the marketplace, shorting is so strong on these as not to be ignored.
nasty numbers
U.S. JULY NONFARM PAYROLLS 32,000 VS. 235,000 EXPECTED
U.S. JUNE PAYROLLS REVISED DOWN TO 78K VS. 112K
steeledge
I absolutely read that board still. There are some major quality people there. My previous differences with the board have nothing to do with getting as much information as possible to trade on.
As to disdain for that poster, I've posted on this before. There are some people who just prove time & time again to be wrong. Just like on the chat boards, where some ops want to ban these sort of posters, & I say 'no don't, we need to watch these folks who are always wrong to be able to go against them. They are ATM machines as opposites." In that regard, this person has proven to be single minded in their market attitude & to always wear blinders.
As for a rally, I really have absolutely no clue. I'm shorting constantly as nothing seems to hold. A Major_Popper retraces, A Major_Dropper continues to die a harder death. Earnings misses just collapes. Why fight it?
karlzuni
was being completely sarcastic
have no clue where mkt is headed, just know that the poster I'm pointing to is absolutely never correct
could be a massive rally now, cause the absolute worst mkt caller who is in their own universe of bad calls has just posted a prediction of Nas going to maybe 400... so put on those rally caps.
this guy is never, ever, EVER, N E V E R !!! right.
for old "L" board readers, you will know who I refer to.
was the strongly disagree & the bet you a cup of new england claw chowder to my new york bagel on Bush vs. Kerry?
If so I accept the bet, but have no clue how you will pay off the cup of chowder!
:)
I said all last week in #at that Kerry needed a 6-8pt bump coming out of the convention or he was done. And low & behold, there are actually polls last night showing Kerry DROPPED 2 pts & Bush gained 5 pts after the convention. That has NEVER happened.
imo, from here on it's Bush's election to lose. I'm certainly no rabid Bush supporter, but don't see Kerry stimulating the voting undecideds to come to his side. And of course, the election is not between Bush supporters & Kerry supporters, who will not have their minds changed. It's those undecideds that they both need to grab.

Stoogie- we look at the profits in the day differently

Your last line
"Too often a stock that makes a major move on news will "fill the gap" and quickly correct after open"
true, but in the case of NANO & TARO, traders had plenty of opportunity to rake in profits based on the price at the time of the post.
Best of luck to you as well.
justinsjewels- certainly didn't think you were insulting, just pointing out other winners.
I always miss the magic amn & love his calls as well.
justinsjewels- while magician is certainly 'the man' ,,there has been much made in the market since he has been away.

UTSI,,that was rather easy
ELN CC scheduled for 8:30am Thursday
Some things to consider
First, watch Biogen Idec (BIIB) today.
(They just reported & beat by $0.02, ex items, beats on revs 56.51. Reports Q2 (Jun) earnings of $0.34 per share, excluding items, $0.02 better than the Reuters Estimates consensus of $0.32; revenues rose 20.6% year/year to $539 mln vs the $530.4 mln consensus.)
This is an advantage with their CC & ELN CC being just a day apart. Biogen is drugmaking partner with Eln on this drug.
Biogen has positive comments on Antegren, ELN will have the same & goes more on Thursday with their earnings & CC and then could continue.
(from ELN board)
BIIB CC points: Antegren the big topic
KEY POINTS:
1. antegren will expand and capture lion share of MS market
2. BIIB expects MS market to expand to 6 billion $US
3. avonex growing 20% year over year; avonex expanding 33% in Europe. BIIB has 40% of MS market now [my comment: despite avonex being only the 2nd best interferon product; so PFE can misrepresent competitior's products all day long and the BIIB sales force win on the field selling a SUPERIOR PRODUCT: ANTEGREN]
4. sales force for MS: expanding sales force and focused to optimize sales force to optimize sales of Antegren. =>>>BIIB will use entire current sales force in field for Antegren sales plus it is doubling its MS sales force <===[this I think is a departure from prior strategy with a greater focus on ramping up antegren sales]plus it will use ELN's hospital sales force
Will use ELN's hospital sales force too. Entire company convinced of antegren blockbuster capacity and focused on the early launch. antegren’s accelerated launch galvanized all aspects of our organization
5. Will announce pricing in October jointly with Elan at a CC. To preserve competitive advantage, not announcing some aspects of strategy.
6. Manufacturing: NC, Oceanside and Denmark but also working on increased productivity.
7. Mentioned Countermarketing by some competitiors, so not
8. Antegren will be a therapy for all patients with MS. Once a month therapy with antegren will be more appealing to patients then once a month plus combination with a interferon<==[it seems BIIB is more and more recognizing antegren is the sole horse to ride]
9. Crohns: end of year submit crohns approval package, but in US the additional induction study will be necessary to support FDA approval in US.
10. PFE comments: BIIB:
when antegren gets out the major chatter will be around data. PFE may get share of the "waiting room" as its sales force wait to see the Doctor but the data will speak for itself in the neuorologist's office. BIIB says this market is sensitive to information and the data will speak for itself.
11. MS patients: antegren post will continue...in 2nd post.
Biotech is waking up
"So far Chiron Corp., ImClone Systems Inc., Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Medimmune Inc. have all returned strong earnings. Amgen Inc., one of Biogen's biggest rivals in the sector, saw profits up more than 20 percent during the quarter and reiterated earnings guidance last week.
All of those companies moved higher today, with most heading into positive territory by 2 percent or more. The Amex Biotechnology Index was up 14 points at 469.74, though still off the 52-week high of 567.94 that it hit in April. The Amex Pharmaceutical Index also gained on the day - up 2 points at 313.60.
Amgen closed up 49 cents at $55.99, Genentech was up $1.62 at $48.12, Millennium was up 33 cents at $11.12, Chiron was up 49 cents at $44.63, and ImClone closed up $2.88 at $59.30 in Nasdaq trade."
"Elan is due to report its Q2'04 results tomorrow. ...forecast a loss per share of 27c from revenues of $102.9m for the quarter. However, the results will do little to move the share price with the market more concerned about future potential rather than current performance. Over the past four months, potential has been bolstered by the accelerated filing and review of Antegren by the FDA for the treatment of MS. The last part of the initial regulatory process was confirmed on Monday when Elan and Biogen IDEC announced that the FDA had formally accepted the filing of the BLA. On the results, the key issues will be evidence of continued momentum in the remaining product portfolio (primarily Maxipime and Azactam); the level of SG&A as it relates to internal cost control measures; and updates, if any, on the SEC investigation, pipeline and pipeline acquisition strategy."
"FDA has given priority review to Antegren.... Reducing the usually excessive timeframes to get applications and FDA approvals is extremely promising....Phase III results will not be released until October, expect Antegren results to be at least as good as its Phase II study, which found the drug "effective in reducing the rate of relapse by 50%, and also significantly reducing the number of new brain lesions".
from a Yahoo post regarding comments made in PFE CC
"We in turn, as we always do, are executing plans to blunt the efforts of those competitors."
rough translation
"let's do whatever it takes to screw the competition, that is good business. Doesn't matter that this is a product that can help many sick people. If it can hurt our earnings, we have an obligation to F'em as much as we can.Truth be damned"
UTSI news bad,,short could see $20. today
in ELN early today @ 18.20 on dip..
Before I left today I was saying on the irc channel to those that I posted the buy to that maybe I should change my name to Al_B_Tross, since from the moment I picked up ELN it dove down more very quickly. But by time I left it had moved back up to be a little over the buy spot. Came back tonight to see the beauty move up ELN made.
This has been manipulated based on Pfizer bull comments. ELN slide started after 7/21,,'coincidentally' when PFE had it's CC.
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/yhoo/story.asp?source=blq/yhoo&siteid=yhoo&dist=yhoo&gui....
Then the stock was defended with these statements
"Richard Parkes, an analyst for ING Financial Markets in London, said Pfizer was distorting Elan data.
In an early Phase II study which recruited 72 patients, there was indeed a rebound effect; however, in a larger 213 patient study, the rebound effect disappeared, he said.
Parkes said the comments are indicative of counter-marketing measures, and noted that Serono and Schering Plough (SGP, Trade) are planning to increase marketing spending on their MS drugs ahead of the expected launch of Antegren."
He also pointed out that Elan shares have been relatively flat during early Irish trading hours, only to fall when ADRs start trading, which to him suggests that U.S. hedge funds are behind the share price decline.
ELN had massive volume today. October should be the completion of the Antegren trials. Elan & BIIB can submit this data as a follow on prior to the FDA deadline for action on the BLA. If P-III data supports the conclusions of the P-II's, FDA wont screw up this application. They asked for the early filing. The sample size in these studies is huge.
Think,,why does PFE make these statements.
competitors doesn't want to see this drug on the market sooner.
It's a good indication Antegren will be a blockbuster for MS. Competetitors are concerned when the drug is not even on the market yet and has such potential to smack them.
PFE started falling just as the Marketwatch report hit the wire.
Payback is a bitch.
No one really knows the potential of this drug yet since it hasn't even reached the marketplace. Need seatbelts, Dramamine and a LARGE amount of Excedrins to hold this one.
ELN could very well have value beyond out understanding. It comes down to one simple sentence. If Antegren works
ELN climbs bigtime, if it fails, crashtime. All that is readable (thatis NOT from a competitor) says it will work.
Watch ELN move over the next few days (earnings are Thursday PM & watch them wait til then to pound back)..Sweet pickup
(and yes,,STILL! in ELN in the IRA from Oct 2002 @ $1.67,,what a great profit!)
TASR does opposite of what I expected..
lucky for me I was not in it
interesting!! Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, the hero of 9-11, is being secretly courted to become President George W. Bush's running mate in the November election, The ENQUIRER has learned
cnbc just said there wont be any national coverage of reagan stem cell speech tomorrow
TASR gonna be so hurt!..CBS story in a few minutes
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/07/26/eveningnews/main631891.shtml
The coroner, Dr. Roland Kohr, called the Taser shock partly responsible for Borden's death. He found that Borden had heart disease and toxic levels of two drugs, but that the stress from the Taser is what pushed him off edge.
"The application of the Taser was the trigger factor which stressed an already damaged heart to the point that it went into cardiac arrest," says Kohr. "The Taser is what triggered his heart attack."
Yet, on Taser's Web site, where the company keeps a list of the fatalities and all the official findings that exonerate the weapon, you won't find the opinion from Kohr.
Every other time a medical examiner has ruled in its favor, the company includes it in a grid on its Web site. But Kohr's findings were left out.
Asked why, Smith says, "They were disputed by our medical experts who read them and thought they were inaccurate."
According to medical records, Shaw used the Taser at least six times before Borden died.
"Taser related fatalities has now passed 50"

a fun time, THAT's for sure!
as for TASR.. my systems are not designed to predict a price move in general, but rather built on movements after big up or down moves.
the CEO is one of the best I have seen on CNBC. He fights back. Seems to me that TASR has turned into a cult stock & should potentially move back up.
There are however, many who say short the crap out of it. So I'm in the no solid opinion department on this one for anything other that a play off a Major_Dropper or Major_Popper day.
consider this idea for the next week
possible BIG upside with potentially little downside.
Find your favorite weak stocks & short Monday morn.
The little downside is that it's doubtful any major rally will occur this week coming. General market weakness will most probably help your weak picked stock move more down making the short profitable.
The potential big payoff is if there is any terrorism at the Democratic Convention. The security looks solid, but there is unfortunately so many warnings & possibilities. Should anything occur, the markets in general will get creamed, and your weak stock pick will dive strongly.
Let's hope nothing at all occurs, and that a short from Monday simply pays nicely during the weak due to summer/markets malaise. But this is a hedge idea against other possiblities.
mismaster- yes on OVTI, but with market wreak, I'm playing daily movements now
catch hi $10;s to low $11's & sell mid to mid/hi $11's & do over & over.
took OVTI profits,, will play next week on early morning dip
