Greenspan not worried Chinese will dump Treasuries
Tue Jun 12, 2007 2:28PM EDT
By Pedro Nicolaci da Costa
NEW YORK (Reuters) - There is little reason to fear a wholesale pullout by China out of U.S. government bonds, former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said on Tuesday.
While expressing concerns about China's runaway growth rate and what he described as overvalued stocks, Greenspan played down the prospect that Chinese authorities would sell Treasuries in earnest, forcing a sharp spike in U.S. interest rates.
Asked at a commercial real estate conference if investors should be worried about this oft-cited concern, Greenspan said: "I wouldn't be, no."
Still, Greenspan said the reason such a withdrawal was unlikely was that China would not have anyone to sell the securities to, hardly the sort of comfort jittery bond investors were seeking.
U.S. government debt has been under severe pressure over the past week, with yields rising sharply on anxiety over the likelihood that global credit conditions would tighten as the year progresses. Bond prices move inversely to yields.
Greenspan reinforced the nervousness, saying that a global liquidity boom which he traced back to the end of the Cold War would not go on forever.
"Enjoy it while it lasts," he told the audience.
Now a private-sector consultant following more than 18 years at the U.S. central bank, Greenspan reiterated his prediction that China's latest growth spurt had come too far, too fast.
"We cannot continue this rate of growth in China and the Third World. This cannot continue indefinitely," Greenspan said in a speech. "Some of these price/earnings ratios are discounting nirvana."
Why me no worry
I know I left for a meeting in downtown Seattle and return three hours later to see the pain.
It's hard working full-time and trading Forex at the same time. - Lesson learned. All my losses have been work related, I need to stop working!!!

A few snip's from the Mayoclinic
It's not always possible to avoid food poisoning, but common-sense precautions can go a long way toward preventing infection with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.
Cook all ground meat, hamburger or roast beef thoroughly. Meat, especially if grilled, is likely to brown before it's completely cooked, so use a meat thermometer to ensure that meat is heated to at least 160 F at its thickest point. If you don't have a thermometer, cook ground meat until no pink shows in the center.
To prevent the growth of bacteria in your kitchen, thoroughly wash anything that comes in contact with raw meat, including your hands, counters and utensils. Use hot, soapy water, bleach or disinfecting wipes. Never put cooked hamburgers on the same plate you used for raw patties.
Order beef cooked medium or well-done when eating out. Be persistent about getting what you ask for, even if it means sending your food back more than once.
Drink pasteurized milk, juice and cider. Any boxed or bottled juice kept at room temperature is likely to be pasteurized, even if the label doesn't say so.
Wash raw produce thoroughly, using plenty of running water and a scrub brush or a vegetable wash. Children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems should avoid alfalfa sprouts.
Avoid drinking untreated water from lakes and streams and swallowing water when swimming — even pool water, which can be contaminated with feces.
Make sure that family members, including children, wash their hands after using the bathroom, changing diapers and before eating.

We need the illegal immigrants for the Construction Industry, paid your non-union non-english workers $10/hr under the table and billed the client $45/hr plus 20 percent overhead and profit.
A little mud and some paint and we have prefect houses to sell for $450K to the legal immigrants who will pay taxes and interest to the bank and government for the next thirty years.
We need open borders, the business model cannot make money paying english union workers $45/hrs.
The dancing monkey made $5K on his XAU short last night but was caught laundry dirt money by d'MM and was bitch slapped.
Seattle area for the last 10 years, I'm starting to grow flippers from all the rain.
You can play d'music and I can be the dancing monkey
I'm placing a buy order for 1000 XAU units @ 626. I can wait for the market to come to me.
My Horoscope today reads:
There is plenty happening regarding money, settlements, investments or even winnings, so concentrate on your financial situation and make it count. Move money around and play the game of chance, within reason.
I closed the position - I'm gonna give myself a timeout from trading.
closed long and going short XAU - please don't try this with real money.
I may not need the entire seat anymore a few more days and I will be selling body parts to pay off my Forex trading account.
I'm gonna have to start selling blood and stand on the side of road begging for cash in a couple of weeks. :)
Long 900 XAU units @ $659.80, this time I'm carrying a parachute to store my bottle of scotch and ice cubes....with my luck I will be hit by a plane.
Did a XAU ground bounce - Loss $8K profit and a margin call of $6K total $14K drawdown for the week.
Caught 1200 XAU Units @ 668.25
Skydriving without a parachute - time to enjoy the sun and ride a free thermals...
Maybe to early to test 675. I'm placing a limit order for 668 and calling it a night. Good-luck
Thank-you I've been selling - I've dumped about 1100 units @ 672.50.
You can have the backseat after I bank $600 more dollars on my last 294 units.
I'm gonna sub-lease the backseat!
Yes it's only a demo account.
I would never try that with real money after my $35K BK investment write-off on Trenwick Reinsurance a few years back.
I keep my screen name "Twk000Jester" as a reminder
I wish I could rode d'elevator on both side of the morning trade.
I bought on the first half wave going up in 10 unit lots as the margin became available then rode it down pray'n for a bottom.
Kinda like sky-driving without a parachute
Nice snip from the article -
"It's important to remember that gold production is falling even in the face of higher prices. The big gold miners would love to produce more gold … they simply don't have the resources."
added another 300 XAU units on the dips today
Nice site - thanks
It's hard to hold XAU down - it snap's back every time.
