sounds like Musclepharm could get some assets frozen of this anthony and actually be paid some money...perhaps $1 million or more...
I thought Musclepharm sold for $30 million at BB.com?
Yeah, and Cellucor's phone is overheated too as 5 lbs Cellucor Whey is priced at $34.95 at Costco right now...
Don't you understand? Dymatize, EAS, Cellucor, Musclepharm, MuscleTech, BSN and Optimum Nutrition....they are broadening into mass market retail...they will all benefit while the specialty retailers eventually will suffer...None of these major brands give a shit what specialty retailers think of that, because nothing is gonna make them miss out on the mass market.
Specialty retailers need to consolidate...exactly what we have been seeing over the last couple of years...What you are saying is pure rubbish!
The smaller players like Gaspari Nutrition...they just fade away, Gaspari went bankrupt last week if you didn't notice.
Romano's web site is from Mexico?
I have a feeling that we are close to th conclusion of the SEC investigation.
Appointing a new independent board member as per Nasdaq rules could probably have waited till next year if Musclepharm wasn't going to seek uplisting anytime soon. Usually, you get the people you need for a business"just-in-time"
somehow Musclepharm should try to capitalize on all this GOPro hype...I guess filming ourselves in cool settings for social medias is going to be the next big thing...so, the celebrity endorsers and other cool users of Musclepharm should be encouraged to do so...Im sure Arnold would be more than willing to do so.
Arnold Iron brand alone is worth $100-200 million. Musclepharm really got something right with the positioning of this like
Whether Tiger Woods signing will be accretive to earnings in similar manner as Arnold has yet to be seen...
Tiger Woods is kind of in a league of his own, he is a golf player and he is 39 years old...so he is in no way representative of the usual user of Musclepharm. Tiger Woods got no association to UFC that is not exactly a gentleman's sport.
Musclepharm's Nature Sport or some other line for the fitness generation over 35 years old...for this segment I think he would work fine.
The way whey protein is sold is widened more and more to mass retailing...which is good for the larger protein companies like Optimum Nutrition, Musclepharm, MuscleTech, Cellucor, Cytosport, Premier Protein, EAS and Dymatize....The cost of servicing small accounts is gone and the smaller protein companies got no chance at these big box retailers and drug stores.
I wonder where Pines Florida is located? I know it as Pembroke Pines.
milking cow protein....
Acquisition would be the best thing that could happen to shareholders...because the stock would double from one day to another.
Is an acquisition likely now? could be, as the purchasing price might be discounted $100 million....the buyer gets the business for $300 million and assumes all responsibilities of the SEC investigation....where fines likely will be less than $1 million....That would be good for all parties...
understand one thing, Walmart buys cheap and Walmart sells cheap....so you do sell a lot.
Also, Walmart's margin like any other grocery retailer got very slim margins....so, it is not like Walmart takes it all.
At the end of the day, nobody wants to pay too much for anything, so whether you are specialty retailer or grocery retailer, prices have to be competitive, whether through low base price or though discounts, coupons or other promotions.
Cellucor got lots of shelf space and sells a lot through Costco this month, but only because of a promotion. Promotions give you sales, sales is what it is all about in a business where margin are fats.
Bellator_exec gives the impression margins are slim, and in grocery retail they are slim to none....that is all bs! This is a business of selling generic whey protein powder added some few non essential additives...the product got little cost of manufacturing. Don't make this more complicated than what is it....it is all about sales!
I wonder where you got all that information from regarding Musclepharm's margins?
You have no chance of knowing what Musclepharm makes on each unit sold at GNC versus Walmart.
I guess you are ze wiener! I lost!
bellator_exec...what you don't get is that Musclepharm got different brands, different channels and ultimately different types of customers.
It might be the same type of customer that goes to the Apple store that shop at GNC...while the type that buys Arnold Iron Whey at Walmart is the same type of customer that buys his Iphone at Walmart.
Arnold Iron is a more mass market brand than MP....still the full line of Arnold Iron is sold at GNC.
Comparing to MuscleTech's brands....Arnold Iron would lie between MuscleTech and Six Star. Could Arnold Iron turn into Six Star kind of brand....only if GNC dumps the brand.
Just my 5 cents.
I think we need to wait for some acquisition of Musclepharm to cash in big on our investment....Musclepharm should be worth as much as Cytosport and Dymatize...so around $400 million would probably be a realistic price tag.
The SEC investigation and Tiger Woods potentially negative influence on the MP brand is my concern. I wish, Musclepharm would use Tiger Woods to endorse the coming Nature Sport line of products. Tiger Woods is old, so products like Joint support, Cardio Vascular support...for these kind of products he would be a great endorser. Tiger Woods endorsing, MP Combat....it makes no sense, he got zero credibility among young athletes.
Today, a Costco employee was trying to sell me some liquid CoQ10 in the supplement section of the local Costco. As he seemed to be in charge of that section, I asked him if Cellucor sold better than Musclepharm since it got more shelf space lately....he answered me: "Not at all!" He told me that there was a promotion running with Cellucor Whey right now, $34.95 for 5 lbs.
So, nothing has changed for Musclepharm at Costco. Temporarily, Musclepharm has been downsized to 4 shipper display boxes (with 2 Musclepharm Combat in each box) while Optimum Nutrition has 2 display shipper boxes (with 2 ON Whey in each box).
From time to time, certain brands will be promoted over others....but nothing has changed in Musclepharm's status in the market.
Codie, you better SELL!
Musclepharm is a really bad investment, other whey protein competitor Dymatize sold to Post Holdings for $380 million in March 2014...with $140 million revenue.
So, Musclepharm is only worth $400 million? what a freakin' joke!
I have 23K shares and I find it useful discussing risks of Musclepharm....I prefer assessing the risk well, as risk assessed well can be quite profitable. Surprises are not profitable.
only speculation though...no information out there supporting it as of today....only that companies that commit such offenses will face below- mentioned consequences.
possibly Brad will be forced to leave Musclepharm too...the length of this investigation suggests that Brad might have reported revenue too early or too high on a consistent basis....if that is the case, he may be forced to leave and pay back his stock bonus...
the American elite eats very well...real Italian food, lots of organic fruits and vegetables, and they eat moderate amounts of calories in general.
then, you got the mass...the average Americans....they do eat way too much garbage...Probably because fruits are expensive while high calories meals at fast food and casual restaurants are cheap.
Being half Danish, half Italian...a North South comparison makes most sense. I can tell you that in Denmark, the mass is pretty close to the American elite in eating habits..... The organic movement in Denmark is the strongest in the World. Also, Denmark was the first country to ban trans fat in food...which Bloomberg made law in NYC too.
In Italy, the mass eats better than the American elite by a mile...comparing the American mass to the Italian mass is a joke...the Italians eat very healthy....even if consumption of pizza has risen quite dramatically over the last decade (Pizza being one of the least healthy Italian meals).
I have stayed in other parts of Europe and overall people eat healthier....the times where the Brits and Germans ate garbage are over...the sales of fish and chips as well as bratwursts, bockwurst and leverwursts are declining...but fatty meals such as pizzas, hamburger and shawarma pitas (some lamb dripped gyro style sandwich) have gained popularity....Still, most Europeans consume less garbage than Americans.
Northern and Eastern Europeans drink more than the Americans though..which is no good.
In Europe there is much less market for these protein products all together as the people there is much more skeptical about the safety of these kind of products.
There will always be a market for them but probably much smaller than in America....I mean, in France...Gatorade can only be sold at drugstores
Ive lived most of my life in Denmark, where candy stores are abundant and the people has one of the most fatty, sugary and starch rich diets of all of Europe, in terms of consumption of candy, pastry, bread, ice cream and sodas....still, little sweet and starch compared to United States where I live now....where it's extreme how sweet and fatty everything is....not only that, the size and portions are enormous.
not at all, for my sake the Cooking Monster or Paula Deen can endorse a Victoza flavor...all I'm interested in is making money.
Probably a Tofu flavor for Nature Sport would be a good idea.
SEC investigations are only positive long term as you get rid of the bad CFOs and CEOs....plus, stock bonuses will be returned to sender.
Brad has been good so far, but a replacement won't hurt anybody at this stage.
Yeah youre right, America expects these taste options.
I do notice that Musclepharm tone it down a little bit in Europe, predominantly selling flavors such as Vanilla Icecream, Banana, Triple Berry.
Europeans are far more "back to nature" oriented...Eating sweet things is done in moderation and eating fatty sweet things is more of a taboo...In America, there is somewhat of a denial when it comes to people's health. You tell yourself and the doctors tell you that your American Standard diet is not good for you....but you won't give it up entirely....So, you hit the gyms and take some protein peanut butter crunch bars, with some sugary Gatorade and some Cookies n Cream whey protein powder.
Competitors ain't any different when it comes to fatty american diet flavors. Cellucor got these flavors:
Available Flavors
Cinnamon Swirl
Cookies N' Cream
COR-Fetti Cake Batter*
Mint Chocolate Chip*
Molten Chocolate
Peanut Butter Marshmallow
Red Velvet Cake Batter*
Strawberry Milkshake
S'mores*
Whipped Vanilla
And Cellucor Whey Protein as well as Musclepharm Whey protein is very popular. Internationally, these flavors make no sense though.
talking about flavors...how come those going to the gym in America crave cinnamon bun, strawberry cheesecake and cookies and cream? I mean, I thought you were trying to be healthy? what's wrong with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry?
Perhaps theyll work in America but im quite sure foreigners find these flavors disgusting...sound pretty gross to me.
shotz product? dropz right? shotz is a great name though, Musclepharm should get that trademark registered.
it's a protein company...any other label makes no sense.
like me, Im some euro trash Floridian living in the Russian Miami Beach ghetto...a Russian ghetto with numerous Trump Towers and Lambos, nevertheless a ghetto.
I can call myself, "The Expert Himself"....it doesn't make me more expert than Joe Biden on Personal Finance.
perhaps Tiger Woods needs to get off the main site and be used where he serves better....as an endorser for brand extensions of Musclepharm.
I'm afraid he hurts the credibility of the brand more than he benefits it...Cellucor is determined to be all about building muscles...I mean, Tiger Woods is kind of "old"..Arnold is a different creature, he is extrovert...he is timeless.
Perhaps it's a harsh critique...but really, you need to think very carefully about who represents your brand and who doesn't.
there is competition...which Optimum Nutrition, Musclepharm, MuscleTech and Cellucor feel on their bodies every day.
Cellucor is somehow getting very popular lately....something Musclepharm needs to respond to.
Definitely Musclepharm should work on getting more flavors and enhancing it's products...because if the product ain't the greatest, no marketing can save it in the long run.
Musclepharm's products even if above average, could always get better by listening to the end user.
thank you for calling SEC, very kind of you!
I guess your $20 might be a realistic year end target....with a little help from the SEC and a positive guidance...
employee retention....that's the only reason why you would give a CFO stock options. Unvested stock options are lost if you leave the company. So, somebody like Prosser, who might be a damn good accountant...well, Brad doesn't want to lose him.
Thinking about it...Brad probably won't hand out much more stock options next year apart from for himself and for Mr. Lupo, the new board member.
Perhaps, there is only one ghost...the SEC investigation.
the CFO should be paid a regular salary. Principles of accounting should not be dependent on stock performance...and effective implementation of internal controls should be expected at any public company....This is not an extraordinary accomplishment....thus, I see no need for stock awards.
the right word is "shipper display box"...That Musclepharm ships before it got them shows how fast Musclepharm moves from drawing table to finished product...whether it has to reach the finish line with pants on or not...it will deliver!
Musclepharm needs to get some larger display/storage boxes to put the Coco protein 12 pack boxes in...but I guess that is something Musclepharm is working on. The product looks great though.
