*** JUST RE-POSTING THIS AGAIN FOR ALL YOU WEAK-KNEED NON-BELIEVERS******* Reduce price of sickle cell drug – Minister

The Minister of Science and Technology, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre, on Friday tasked Xechem Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Limited, manufacturers of Nicosan, a herbal sickle cell drug, to make the drug affordable to all Nigerians who need it.
Speaking while being conducted round Xechem’s laboratories, sited within the Science and Technology Complex, Sheda, Abuja , she said sickle cell affected persons from different strata of the society.
Ekpiwhre, who was excited to know that there was a made-in-Nigeria drug that could effectively control the disease, added that a reduction in the price of the drug would ensure that more sicklers had access to it.
She said, “I enjoin those in the sales of this product to consider that sickle cell cuts across every class of the society. It is not a respecter of any status in the society. That should be put into consideration in the retail price of this drug. In fact, it should be seen as your contribution towards alleviating the suffering of these people.”
The production retail price of Nicosan is said to be N3,000 for a dosage that will last for 30 days. However, retailers inflate the price to N7,000.
SHESTCO was established as a multi-disciplinary research and development centre to initiate and promote rational and innovative programmes for the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
Nicosan is a herbal anti-sickening drug that has been in use since 1995 but only received NAFDAC certification in July 2006. It has also been approved by the United States Federal Drugs Agency.
The minister promised the support of her ministry to ensure that productivity was increased and to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of the drug.
She also regretted that the drug and other research findings of SHESTCO had not been well publicised to make sickle cell patients aware of the drug.
Ekpiwhre also called for wider publicity of gamma irradiation, a finding of SHESTCO, used to protect farm yields after harvest.

AN OBSERVATION: swift has done an "exceptional" job putting a very tight lid on "any" info coming out of the company, period. also we "know" that nicosan sales are way up and demand is huge and getting larger, period. also we know that XKEM has the exclusive worldwide distribution rights for the sale of nicosan, period. so UNLESS pandey completely bankrupted this company (which i don't believe) then imo swift is def working on something big. realize he has only been at the helm for a short period and had to clean up pandeys mess first. my gut tells me swift will make this happen( he has more at stake than we do.. his money and more importantly , his reputaion! imo
LOOKS LIKE TOXIC MARGE IS AT IT AGAIN.. SHE MUST BE DOWN TO 80-90 MILLION BY NOW.. FORM 144 FILED AT THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION ON 08/10/07

i agree 1000% !! have a good nite all.
imo swift has something big up his sleeve and missed the filing to give the company more time to finish negotiations. i've done some digging on swift and he has an impecable background in big pharma( eli lilly) and biotech hedge funds etc. true the silence is enough to drive most sane people nuts... but all the great dd ( brume/isd/trans/drift/raven and others) tells me that this crazy puzzle called XKEM is about to be completed and very soon. mentally i have given the company till end of year before i start to get concerned.. but think we will see .15c before then. imo
Nice post steve... just reinforces the previous post from brume... now we just wait on swifty to start unleashing to good news! lol
agreed! eom
I AM ANXIOUS like everyone else here but have you already forgotten the article posted by BRUME yesterday?? this thing will happen and soon** below: Reduce price of sickle cell drug – Minister

part of an article in the newspaper.. NIGERIAWORLD************** We have Professor Sunday Fadulu, a medical researcher on sickle cell anemia. His emphasis is on Medical Mycology, Sickle Cell Anemia, and Clinical Trial of Hemogenol. A drug to cure Sickle Cell Anemia/Thalassemia has earned him very high reputations in the field of science. Professor Fadulu was able to isolate the anti-Sickle properties as a medicine for sickle cell. One of his works is of the Orin Ata, Chewing stick. Nigerian Government has signed an agreement with a US-based pharmaceutical company, Xechem International Incorporated to produce sickle cell drugs utilizing the facilities of the Gateway Pharmaceutical Company, Ikangba, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The company is employing the use of locally sourced herb, Orin Ata, in the production of sickle cell drugs locally and has the international rights for its commercial distribution. To my readers Sickle cell anemia is genetically inherited disorder afflicting millions of Afro-Asian people worldwide. Experts say that 40% of all sickle cell disease (SCD) sufferers are Nigerians. Fadulu is a Nigerian Abroad.
