08:41 Semiconductors: Kaufman says checks indicate healthy commic demand tone
Kaufman says their checks among semiconductor vendors and channel cos at the Interop Conference indicated that infrastructure spending across servers, networks and storage infrastructure is tracking as expected, with limited signs of slowdown, order cancellations or significant inventory builds. Specifically, customers are seeing active replacements efforts in corporate and service provider infrastructure, around servers and data center networking technologies. Specific near-term drivers cited include enterprise infrastructure upgrades to 10 Gigabit Ethernet and storage infrastructure, and carrier infrastructure focus on deploying metro networking and upgrading wireless infrastructure. Firm believes the trend toward server, storage and networking infrastructure upgrades is positive for cos with exposure in the area such as LSI, NETL, MIPS, MRVL and BRCM

09:30 MRVL Marvell removed from Focus List at Amtech (11.12 )
Amtech removes MRVL from the focus list saying they expected both MRVL's and RIMM's quarters to be positive catalysts for the stock. Unfortunately, while their inputs were correct (both companies had solid quarters and strong outlooks), MRVL shares did not respond as they anticipated. With the catalysts now behind, they feel it is time to take MRVL off the AmTech focus list. The firm continues to believe that XScale will remain a strong revenue driver with its leading technology and key design wins, but the key challenge remains monetizing this revenue stream into a profit driver.
IF the market does fall, the large institions will pay dearly in the long run.Can they afford to piss off the small investor anymore.401K'S are getting killed, older investors are mad as hell. The dollar is worth 1/2 of what it was 5 years ago. This has been just profit taking by these pigs, thats all it is.They control the markets, thats why mutual funds are a poor investment.95% OF AMERICA morgages were fine, they just needed a reason.
reported on briefing.com today thtas all i know
FYI 09-Apr-08 14:05 ET In Play Apple: Nokia intends to take a bite out of Apple - Forbes (152.12 -0.72) -Update : Forbes reports NOK is remaining tight-lipped over its planned "iPhone killer," refusing to reveal either its release date or the name. But Forbes.com has learned that the 3G multimedia phone is slated for release in the second half of 2008--so it may not be long before AAPL meets the first serious contender for the smart phone crown. A Finland-based source close to Nokia told Forbes.com that the co's new touch-screen handset will feature all of the trademarks associated with its next-generation series of phones: wireless Web browsing, global positioning system, Java application support and 3G data transmission speeds. But it's the touch-screen interface that's a clear nod to Apple's iPhone. And done right, it will give Nokia users more flexibility for grabbing photos, music and other media online.
S2,thanks
S2 Do you have a opinion on brcm and or target.
08:36 MRVL Marvell: Strong RIMM results and guidance bode well for MRVL - Oppenheimer (11.23 ) -Update-
Oppenheimer says RIMM reported F4Q08 (Feb) results that were ahead of expectations, and gave very strong guidance looking into the May quarter, particularly on unit shipments. Firm believes this bodes well for MRVL, which is the primary supplier of baseband ICs for Blackberry smartphones (Note that MRVL) counts RIMM as its only non-HDD 10% customer). In the near term, firm notes MRVL is focused on addressing the margin issues by migrating RIMM from baseband devices fabbed at INTC to more cost efficient designs fabbed at TSMC. The company has already begun production at TSMC, though for the next few months most of what Marvell ships will be from INTC's fabbed inventory, which MRVL has accumulated over the past two quarters.
rambus trianles break out at 2/3 to 7/8 of the triangle very often.i'M LOOKING AT 11.53 TODAY DOR BREAKOUT IF IT HAPPENS.
Mike if you have such a problem with MRVL,why are you here.Or should i say your posts have no value to anyone here.
I've been doing this a long time.Anytime i find a stock that has been moving sideways, with the 5ema,20sma,and 50sam ,has always resulted in a move higher. The question is how high.A move to the 200sma is possible.
Do you really think home builders stocks are going to see their highs again. They were as inflated as much as the currant home prices. How long can you wait for your investment to pay off.The past tech bubble should tell you something, have all those stocks come back in last 5 years.Your better to buy 5-10 stocks in uptrend for 3-6 months than move on.To buy and hold one industry is a foolish bet that will no pay off.Buy whats hot ,don't get greedy and move on.
Monday I SUSPECT will be upside day for mrvl and semi's in general.A lot of times they will run contra to market in whole, and don't forget today was expiration day for options a favorite of hedge funds.
mrvl low ,bounced off support line at 10.42.
Tempting yes but what if it went to $2.00 today like bsc.
appl in trading range last few weeks between 118 -130,looks like it could breakout above 130.
Well i have no complaints with the market,Mutal funds are a dead issue since the internet came along. And the idea of buy and hold is for people who can afford to take a lose and let time take care of it self. But for them upside is limited.I still believe in you have to learn to daytrade, its in my opinion the only safe wayto make money in the market.Last week made $6220 and to day $1143 all on long positions,as i never short stocks.
I may be wrong, mrvl high of 11.72 fills gap on a bear wedge.Done for the day.
08:43 RIMM Research In Motion: Investigation threat to RIMM's India market - Financial Post (93.59 )
Financial Post reports the co faces a potential BlackBerry blackout in one of its hottest markets after the Indian govt said it is investigating whether the device poses a security risk and could be used for terrorism-related purposes. The Indian gov's Home Affairs office is involved in meetings with four of the country's telecom carriers to evaluate whether the BlackBerry's secure encrypted messaging features would help terrorists evade authorities. If a resolution is not met, the govt may shut down BlackBerry service in the country by the end of the month.

07:36 MRVL Marvell: Color on quarter (11.52 )
Citigroup says a much better-than-expected print for MRVL left little for the Bears. However, once again the stock traded off post-close on the outlook's sequential growth (-8%) despite Street F1Q09 and F09 revs which will reset HIGHER, and Street F09 EPS which should remain flat. Firm believes MRVL's high-teens annual rev growth and 700 bps of intra-year operating margin expansion are compelling catalysts which can pull the shares steadily higher through the year. A trough 15x multiple on firm's C08E $0.72 EPS implies downside to $11.0 vs. upside of 74% to their $19 tgt, compelling risk/reward... Thomas Weisel says MRVL reported 4QF08 revs of $845 mln, up 11.4% q/q, solidly beating their $783 mln est and consensus $780 mln est on better than expected demand for SoC storage products, enterprise-class communication products and cellular products. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.20 handily beat firm's and consensus by $0.06 and $0.09, respectively, mainly on the higher rev. According to mgmt, firm says the weaker sales are related to a temporary slower demand in game console and other consumer wireless customer markets. For the longer term, mgmt believes top line could grow between the high teens to low 20's y/y. The difference between high and low growth may depend on the economy... Friedman Billings says all MRVL's rev news was offset by a disappointing 1Q gross margin and operating expense guidance. 1Q gross margin guidance reflects little improvement in cellular margins, as many would have expected. Furthermore, MRVL's 1Q opex guidance is greater than what the firm spent in 3Q of last year before it eliminated 400 employees through headcount reductions. While its fundamental product and rev momentum is robust, its same old "opex gone wild" problems persist...
did their GM improve and what was it
Well for some reason i can get NSM,noting on MRVL
S2 How do i get back on your email list, thanks.
is anyone listening to CC ON YAHOO says to start at 4:45 est time.Did mrvl srew this up too
HL ABOUT TO BREAKOUT IF INTERESTED
16:28 MRVL Marvell beats by $0.09, beats on revs (11.52 -0.23)
Reports Q4 (Jan) earnings of $0.20 per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.09 better than the First Call consensus of $0.11; revenues rose 11.5% year/year to $845 mln vs the $782.7 mln consensus. Co has reached a tentative settlement with the plaintiffs in the previously disclosed federal derivative lawsuits related to stock option practices. "The better than anticipated sales trends during the fourth fiscal quarter was due to strong demand for our system-on-a-chip products for the storage market, better than expected demand for our enterprise-class communication products and better than seasonal demand for our cellular products. The results demonstrate successful investment in a broad range of technologies and our ability to integrate these technologies into superior products across many markets."
08:24 MRVL Marvell: Expects in-line quarter with limited catalysts - Kaufman (11.75 )
Kaufman says MRVL plans to report fiscal 4Q08 results today after the close. Demand from MRVL's storage end-market (approx 40%-45% of revs) remains mixed with P.C. softness offsetting stable hard drive order patterns and inventory levels. However, firm believes demand in enterprise/PC networking (approx 20% revs) also remains muted reflecting broader economic weakness, limiting significant upside in the quarter. On the whole, firm expects in-line MRVL revs of $780 mln for fiscal 4Q08, representing a decline of 3.8% Q/Q. They expect EPS to be burdened with higher operating expense, and drive results more in line with consensus $0.11 expectations this quarter.
just heard on "fast money" take of APPL coming out with possible blackberry.real or not don't know
07:17 MRVL Marvell: Earnings preview; expect a Q4 beat - FBR (11.85 )
Friedman Billings says MRVL will report FY 4Q08 earnings results on March 6. They believe business is robust, with the firm benefiting from strong demand for RIMM's Blackberry devices, and hard disk drives (>10% customer Western Digital just raised its 1Q guidance). Recent production checks show continued order strength at MRVL as the firm needs more product. The Street, however, is only forecasting a measly 2% sequential rev decline for Q1. One possible scenario is that the Street is too aggressive with its April-quarter rev est. The other possible scenario is that MRVL beats 4Q rev ests and guides 1Q seasonally down, which would get one close to the 1Q Street est. Firm raises their 4Q and forward ests to reflect this latter scenario.
april 24 after market, unconfirmed by briefing news ,thats all i have
S2 WELCOME BACK
I just don't trust MRVL.Only way i play it now is if it breaks above its 15 min high and day trade.I'll buy anywhere from 2000 to 6000 shares..30 GAIN NETS 600 TO 3600.Only way to make my 45000 back.
If we didn't have late day bailout package,i'm sure market was headed down. The NYX index is a excellant index to use to gage the institutional investor. On Friday it was at the apex of its triange and needed to break in either direction. Here's the problem its relative strength RSI needs to get above 50 for rally to continue. It stopped at 49.85 on friday.I suspect if we were to ralley further the institutional ivestors do no want to be left out.The bailout package needs to be confirmed early monday,so we can break above 50 on the rsi. Each time we have gone over 50 we had a ralley north, the question now is how much.
Presently semi's trading with the rest of the market. The SPY if you look at a daily chart will see no clear direction at a mid-point of a broad but narrowing trading range(triangle).ONCE we hit the pivot point we will know.Seems to me the market is lining up for some event. What i do see is the macd lines rising for the spy, smh, dia. Can it be the smart money is slowly buying in.Rambos may be right on the semi's as over the weekend on a few programs i watch, comments on semi's starting to look interesting. This does not mean we can't fall more but i think we maybe close to a end.Remember market looks a head six month's.Plus the one sector that never took part in any real rally has been the semi's.The rotation of the big money always whats a deal, tell me semi's aren't for sale.IF world econmony is going to slow we all know energy and finacials are effected.Let rotation begain.ONE other note the number of downgrades that have come out on semi's,we all know brokerage firms are honest.
