WEED little brother Aphria uplisting Wednesday. Could be bad timing
I don't buy it. I was offered a Cannabis pre IPO position today by Canaccord. Not sure they'd want to tank the industry benchmark before raising money on a peer
That was big of you. Yes I'm talking about capital gain tax as being stupid. As I said, if it doesn't come to light on Wednesday we should rebound. If liberals put it in it's going to be sickening.
I'm hearing others say retroactive Jan 2017. I just realized I liquidated many private placement investments this year.
Barf.
Atleast if they do retroact it it'll help markets rebound.
Tsp?
Nice lol. I'm keeping a little nest egg for the chance Trudeau burns us
It really does...
If you got lots of dry powder.
I hate to see longs who have every penny sunk into this lose half their money though.
We're all here to make $. I hope we continue to!
https://www.fraserinstitute.org/sites/default/files/economic-costs-of-capital-gains-taxes-in-canada-chpt.pdf
Nice read here. Capital gains taxes contribute to $2.8B in tax revenue.
Such a tiny tax revenue stream...
Altering it could severely stunt economic growth.
Hey-o!!!
If it does tank I got a lot of powder. I'll make out like a thief in the night!
I know you do too
It won't hurt me at all. I trade. I've realized all my profits from private placements early last year. But make no mistake, many deep pocket longs will be dumping their stock if inclusion goes from 50% to 75%. Especially if they are sitting on substantial gains on margin.
If there is a January 2018 change, Do the math on buying Tweed at $2.5 and selling now compared to after Jan 2018.
Morneau needs to publicly state they are not doing it, because the worry is really hurting the Canadian markets.
Many people are selling now in anticipation.
Again, we will bounce back if it's left out of budget on the 22nd, but if it's there watch out. WEED share price will be cut in half from the mob sell off.
I'm going to get involved in politics to make the Country better. Can I count on your vote?
Oh haha. That WAS fun!
Whose being mean? I'm getting slandered because I'm unhappy that the liberals might crash pot stocks with the capital gains thing. If people don't want my opinion there's a block function
Some people only want to hear positive posts about how this is going to the moon.
Apology accepted. Just try to handle these emotional roller coasters a bit better. You'll be a better person and investor in the end.
Who is insulting who? You get nasty every time your account sees red. Grow up
This stupidity will really hurt us Cannabis investors.
I kidding me? Wow dude. This is a big deal for someone like you.
I agree with you. But we can't will the market up. Especially when Trudeau is about to destroy capital gain taxes.
Trudeau needs to announce they aren't touching capital gains or Canadian stocks will continue to tumble. Particularly pot stocks as we have enjoyed ridiculous profits to date.
Maybe you can theorize why cannacord would short attach WEED on the day of such a big catalyst.
I can't figure it out.
That's a good strategy until you realize you continued to average down and you are either down 80% or lost 80% of your profits.
I'm not saying that will be the case but this is not manipulation here. Volume is too low for "big hands" to be loading up.
Point is, be careful
Plenty of people lose money on the market from things that just don't make sense!
Market doesn't care that you own a great company.
I'm taking a hair cut from my profits but watching very closely. Gotta keep the emotion out of the equation and realize wheh we are holding a losing hand.
Is WEED pulling down the S&P composite? Lolol
Seems trudeaus potential for destroying capital gain inclusion is tanking the markets.
If he brings a date to move capital gain tax inclusion to 75% on the 22nd
then you might see WEED hit $6/share. People are simply sitting on too much profit right now not to sell.
Live by the sword die by the sword I guess. Trudeau bringeth riches with the pot industry then yank it back on socialist economics.
You are really good at research. I got a good bit of info before my attention disorder took over. I'm going to find out how to save that pdf in the iBooks thing.
Thanks
Precisely. So can you explain to me index rebalancing ?
Is it just the process of the index (S&P in our case) putting the value of all outstanding WEED shares into their index and taking another asset out?
Is there more to it?
Clearly the S&P index isn't buying WEED shares as we've already established. So how does the rebalance work?
I understand that individual funds may choose to "rebalance" and thus sell one asset and acquire another (WEED)
But the index rebalance I'm confused by
So correct me if I'm wrong, but you still aren't buying the index. You are building a portfolio to mirror the index.
Which is tough to do without endless amounts of money.
Can you explain how you/me or anyone would buy the index?
The index doesn't buy in Yoda. The S&P index is a made up barometer of the top 250 companies in Canada. You can't buy it or trade it.
You can, however buy mutual funds or ETF's that follow the index. Thus, now that WEED is included in the index, funds can go ahead and buy them. Think of the S&P as a litmus test to allow funds to purchase.
A fund bought WEED shares for their clients. This is what happened on Friday.
You'd think the mutual fund/ ETF fund manager would advertise they now own WEED. It's a pretty popular stock and I'm sure will bring in a lot of investors for them.
Yes looks correct. I took a guess at after hours trade. Thank you for clarifying the actual time
No, institutions buying/selling is on L2. What funds the shares end up in we won't know without research.
Amen
I just love how they can inherit copious amount of the stock at my expense. Question is how many funds will do the same?
Do you know which fund bought? And do you know who sold? Pretty nice discount
Some fund(s) bought $55 million worth at 4:00 and 4:55 Friday.
I just don't get how they found a seller at 10.66.
Can't make sense of that one
That's what she said.
Yes. Gotta keep the finger over the sell button frequency in this industry. Hype is wearing off big time. Need a catalyst
I buy what you're saying. But there have been BD bag holders for years. Noting new here.
Hold on let me grab a pen and write down this sage advice ;)
Reality is, this industry is new to us all and so fair market value is a riddle.
I won't argue WEED value at $15/share, but I also won't argue it at $6/share. How do we peg it?
Let's just hope the manipulators are nice to us.
Lmao. It was a nice stinky if we use logic. I fear the big boys are taking us for a ride now
I bought more at 10.81 ten minutes before close. Now by looking at this close, I'm not confident we won't see 9 on Monday.
Criminal lol
Happy? The trade before the 10.66 dump was 10.81 I believe. It's a bit disconcerting that this can be so manipulated. Check out the tape, tells a dark story. What's going to happen Monday? God only knows.
Can't believe that's legal lololol
OSC is useless.
How'd you guys like that bit of manipulation. Yummy
I don't understand
