Sierra Leone has long been known for its production of titanium ore, consisting of the minerals rutile and ilmenite. (FeTiO3 or FeO TiO2). Before the 1995 start of its civil war, Sierra Leone was one of the world's leading producers of both rutile and ilmenite.
