OT....FYI
Not sure how credible this is quite yet...but jus wanted to post here in case this one does have legs....I jus rec'd it from a family member....stay tuned.

Oh they'll use that piece of news (needing 1/2 a tril) when they want to....like most news events that you'd think would drive the mrkt fast & hard..yet don't....a few days later when we forget about it..& thus seemingly at the time for no reason at all....wham.....they either bring that news back to the surface & react on it....or worse yet, don't bring it back to the front page yet decide ta finally move stuff around settin the mrkt off...ya jus never know how the powers that be wanna play....& that's exactly the way they want it...or the position they want to keep us small fish in.
This is precisely why ya wanna simply let the mrkt come to you.....never over thinking things or trying to outsmart the mrkts. That's way too much work...at least for me....lol

Careful on any yen crosses.....the econ calendar shows several high impact releases due to come out a lil later on....any moves in advance may be simply these events beg to be baked in...so unelss you have a good idea as to what these reports will say....I'd remain very cautious w/any yen crosses.
JMHO!!
Yeah...I have a fancy for the Aussie too....can be very tricky at times tho.
One thing that's made it a real tough trade the last few weeks was the rate cut down there. Ever since it seems as if it can't make up its' mind where it wants ta base....so careful on any long calls. But I will say this....sure is tempting to go long lookin at that chart...ya jus gotta have the kahoona's is all....& in 4x having kahoona's can get ya wiped out real fast :0
But w/re to bang for the 4x buck (spread vs volitility)...I think the Aussie for the spread does indeed give ya many good opps....meaning the spread is relatively low yet the volitility tends to be on the high side. For the most part, w/volitile pairs such as the Ugly Sister...gpb/jpy, Aus/NZ, etc) you tend to pay a higher spread....but w/the Aussie the spread at Oanda during prime mrkt hrs is as low as 1.8...not bad at all for the moves you can capture.

Jus wanna emphasize the importance of staying on top of any #'s being reported....even correlation paris can effect a trade so be aware of all correlations as well.
Once again here's the link to the econ calendar

& if ya haven't considered the correlation factor....here's a good lil link for that as well....

both these matters should be given serious considerations at all times....entering, during & exiting trades.

thx for that one....1/2 tril....that's all? ;)~ ...
jus went short eur/jpy @ 161.21....lookin for 160.61 or thereabouts...jus above the 3rd fib retrace off the 15 min....& set the stop fairly high @ 161.60...if it breaches that....it's up, up 'n away from there & I will have missed this one....quite horribly I might add.
Slowly but surely gettin caught up...have a had few successful trades (more so than bad one's) over the last 24 hrs....almost back in the saddle ;))

riden'em both awhile longer...that's the plan at least...201.75-80 w/the beast & 8615-20 w/the Aussie.

Well 69....I can tell ya this much....if you have a decent grasp of TA (which you seem to have), you have the majority of the battle won w/re to 4x. Unfortunitely for me....I've always been more of a macro/fundi guy back in my equity days....guess that was a good excuse to be a Buffet type investor....look for undervalued quality & could thus care less about timing an entry or exit. Just begin to build a position over time & simply sit & wait it out. A viable strat for equites if ya have the patience I suppose. But I've come to find that this wasn't necessarilly a good strat match for me....at least til I found 4x which seems to truly suit my style....more risk taking & a faster mrkt...not to mention way more fluid.
W/re to the group that seems to be assembeling here...on the other 4x board (for at least the last 15 mos) we've been signing up for monthly competitions to see who has the best montly roi (there was also a yrly comp that began in Jan)....& we're only playing for pride....tho a few mos we were actually able to find a few sponsers who gave us prizes (books on trading 4x & other lil mrkt related goody's) but I don't think they are doing that anymore. Anyway....it's a good way to see whose doing what & discuss here on the board how they are doing it...a good way to gauge all the various strats that folks are using & most importantly to learn from others.
All this is done via Oanda & best of all, it's completely free. The contests are already set up & I invite anyone whose interested ta sign up now for the September comp. So if ya don't yet have an Oanda demo & wanna join us & see how ya measure up....by all means...follow this link....it's a blast.
Rules are easy....beg bank is 50K, leverage is your call & you can not add funds at anytime.
ROI's are updated every night @ midnight EST so you can see where ya rank on a daily basis.
Follow this link to sign-up & well see ya on the chart...jus pls be sure to tell us what your Oanda trading handle is....that way we'll know whose who here.
It's the IHub Sept Comp.....click here....
https://fx2.oanda.com/mod_perl/fxcontest/fxcontest.pl
So far we only have 2 signed up...."Cracker" is already approved (have no clue who that is?) & I just signed up but my handle (same handle as I have here) is not yet approved by the Powers that be so my handle doesn't appear quite yet.
I think it's still Ataglance who directs the montlhy's..approves all sign ups in advance.
Should be a hoot..let's get some participation goin & have a lil demo fun w/it all.
Cheers...& GL!!

I gotta agree Simple in that at least for me.....
keepin it simple has been by far the winningest strat I've used....not overthinking or trying to outsmart the mrkt...let it come to me & take only what it happens to be given at the time.
Remaining conservative & taking profits on the early side...or at a minimum, if I really like position that's in the green...take at least 1/2 off the table & let the other 1/2 ride....& of course settin the sl at or just under b/e...that way a guaranteed profit is assured.
However I must add that most times when I do this...I do end up given back approx 1/2 the profits I coulda had if I woulda jus simply closed out the entire lot & look for the next opp. At least compared to the few homeruns I've hit while allowing the other 1/2 to ride....I still think I woulda most likely fared better by consistenly closing out the entire lot while in the green....no doubt...always a work in progress tho.
W/re to Oanda....I rarely if ever use candlesticks...typically always line charts...simple MA's & look for the volitile moves to any direction & then if it looks right to me (checkin the news that's been recently released, pending news along w/basic mrkt sentiment) I go the other way lookin for the correction. Sometimes it takes a few entires to time it right...& sometimes not....but all in all I've found that w/this keep it simple strat, I've been fairly successful...no need to out think the mrkt...in fact tryin to do so will most likely hurt ya. I am of the belief that all mrkts makes no sense so why try to get cute & figure them out...just let'em come to you. ;)~

Is that like trading the channels?
All 4X really is....
1) is adhering to strict money mngmt principals...I'd give that one at least 40-50%
2) T/A knowledge....approx 25-30%
&
3) knowledge of how all the fundi's work....including news, geopolitical events, other mrkts..equities, bond, commodities, etc.....& a lil weather too....how it plays a role w/re to the oil mrkt, etc.
I'd say approx 15-20% for #3 here.....that's really all there is....sounds simple...but it aint....sound right to you 4x Vets out there?

AP / Fed: Rates not too low; next move likely to be up
Tuesday August 26, 2:18 pm ET
By Jeannine Aversa, AP Economics Writer
Federal Reserve officials at August meeting said rates not too low, but next move likely up....
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080826/fed_minutes.html
OK...let me get this straight....1st they tell us rates aren't too low...then in the very next breath go onto say that the next move will most likely be up? WTF!!!
not that I disagree....but why even say that rates aren't too low...are they tring to tell us they wish they woulda moved'em lower but now it's too late? lol
Makes ya wanna say....which end is up Ollie....n'yuck n'yuck ;)~

aus @ 8546...already got stopped out once w/a 8532 try at it
& eur/jpy @ 160.57...that one hasn't gotten stopped out...yet...lol
tryin tighter stops these days...which I realize is 4x suicide :0

OK...now that the night shift has checked out....anyone 'round for the day shift?
Who dare attempt ta trade the Pacific zone? lol
hehe...yeah...1st day of 1st grade today so the 6 yr old is out til 2:50....home w/the almost 3 yr old now...who will hopefully begin preschool in another mos.
Slowly but surely I'll get myself back into the ebb 'n flow of the mrkt. Funny thing, my original plan was that I'd be able to really focus on the mrkt during the summertime when my better 1/2 was home (she's a 2nd grade teacher) & here to help out w/the girls....but between our 3 vaca's (a week each) & the short time we were home in between & all else that we were busy with this summer....4x really took a major backseat for me....best made plans as they say. & funnier still....I think my wife knew that would happen....I think it was her lil ploy to keep me busy so I wouldn't lock myself in our lil office all summer long....lolol
& man alive...tryin to trade with all those summer distractions (had the laptop on a few trips & did what I could) really made it tough on me....all my demo's took major hits....it was like throwin darts all summer long for me...wasn't even close...think I put more holes in the wall that the dart board is hung on than I did the dartboard itself....& by far, over the last 16+ mos...I've had my worst performance...since approx early June I've been in a real 4x funk....damn good thing I didn't finally go live in early June like I was plannin....fee-u!!
Think I'll continue to do demo awhile longer..at least til I feel I'm caught up w/the flow of the mrkts & back in a fairly regular daily routine. I feel way oudda 4x whack these days....really lost myself & what I'm tryin to accomplish over the summer...time to regroup & refocus.
Anywho....missed not bein around & lookin ta catchin up.
Cheers!!

Good plan....BUT the tuff part is...
the head fakes that can occur jus b4 & or jus after the news hits.....u could easilly end up dumpin the winner & taken the loser...no free lunch as they say.
Ex: the last euro hike back in early July (maybe it was late June)....you'd think goin into it that it would rally.....BUT it did the opposite...of course...lol Guess in this event....that was cuz it was in rally mode for quite sometime goin into it...so by the time the hike was made official....there wasn't even a short term pop....what happened was that it held for an hr or so....then all of the sudden when London fianlly woke up & got their coffee (or tea)....it sold off...& quite hard at that.
That was the very first call I really nailed...I finally decided to go against all conventional wisdom (albeit Newbie wisdom) & do the opposite....so I shorted the euro goin into the hike....at 1st I thought I missed that call cuz it didn't do anything at all post hike...stayed pretty much in its' current channel....but I held on to my short position & powered down & went to bed.....woke up a few hrs later & wadda ya know....the sucker came home for me & tanked a hundred +.....was a good feeling to have finally made a call in advance...a call that one would think went against all conventional wisdoms.
Anywho....straddl'n works...ya jus gotta be real careful which side ya cut...those head fakes can sure wipe ya out real fast.

is it bed time yet? lol
I'd offer ya a Sbux but I'm afraid what might happen :0
& nice call on the Swissy.....these opps are exactly the one's I look for.....very over extended charts...then simply go the other way....typically you don't have ta wait all that long for your position to develop & many times you bag a real nice profit....especially on t'stops...the only way ta trade.
hehe

I believe the 100 in question should be referred to as units & those 100 units make up 1 position (since all those units are at the same price & bought or sold as the case may be at the same time) aka 'lot'.
Sorry....shoulda been clearer there....meant to convey that I wanna learn more about both...which is why I added the as well there....guess I shoulda included an "also" in there as well.

Nope....but been wantin to beg learnin about all dem calls 'n puts as well.
Thx...this is one pair I'd let go focus on so any comments/charts on it are always most welcomed...at least by me.
TIA!!
I think he means....the more doemstic resources we can acquire (individual wealth) the better off in genl our econ will be.
& imo we don't need more foreign investment to bring us out of this funk....we need more domestic fat cats to get their feet even wetter. They have plenty of cash still on the sidelines...they jus dont wanna take the risk is all....& they are the one's who can afford to do so....tphhffftt!!
I'd much rather have the domestic fat cats get even fatter as opposed to the Saudi's or anyone else for that matter.
Too many of the US big boys are gettin complacent I'm afraid....all the while the rest of the world wants ta take an even bigger bite out of us...& could eventually end up owning us...or at least own more of our domestic assets than we do. I don't care what anyone else says....that wont be good....just like the GOP/Bush argument of a weak greenback being good for us.....such BS imo.
Right on...indeed a Yank I be...born & raised on the left coast....East Bay region of the SF Bay....born in Oakland & have lived in various places in the East Bay all my life.
Love your credo....good stuff....& if it sounds too nationalistic....tough!! lol
I'm a lil afraid that this current recession in the US is beginning to bring on the de coupling of the greenback & will thus make it much tougher for the greenback to regain it's stature as BMOC.

Love that fishen quote...1 I try ta live by fo'sho....
W/re to Fibs....the 1st TA tool I delved into...been usin fibs for entries but mostly exits. I think it's true that most traders use these levels thus you can pretty much bank on at least the conservative levels being hit much of the time.
Then I moved onto MACD....not to say that I feel all that confident w/MACD quite yet....then again I suppose one should be in learning mode w/everything all the time in life...& most especially 4x.
I also like the Livermore quote....maybe it's cuz one of the cities that borders the one I live in is named after him? lol
Yes....I live fairly close (w/in 7 miles) of the dreaded lab...so I suppose if anything happens 3 Mile Island wise over here...I'll be one of the 1st ta go....would prefer it that way I suppose...lol :0
Back to 4x....I have to add this to my Disclaimer...was readin the IBox about the strat of goin w/the trend...bein your friend 'n all.....I must admit that for the most part...much of my early success (albeit demo) can be attributed to doin the exact opposite....I look for large spikes in any direction (albeit I do prefer to look for spikes to the opposite direction of what the longer term trend has been..that's def preferred) & look to go the other way on the correction. I've found that when I try to trade w/in a established trend...for the most part I get burned whereas when I go against the flow, my success occurs sooner w/in the trade. Perhaps this is b/c I don't know T/A all that well...so the trades I enter are fairly obvious one's? Then again who knows....maybe I'm jus blowin some Newbie smoke here?
Having said this, I sure would like to hone the skill of being able to more successfully trade w/in an established trend. I must admit however that mentally speaking, goin against the flow is not an easy thing to do...it sure aint natural that's for sure.
Thx for the very kind words Kimosabe....Cheers!!

Thx....I'm over there in the back of the class takin notes....thx for helpin the chart-challenged along (like myself).....whoever said everyone is out for themselves...thx for takin the time!
Cheers!!
I tend to be in agreement there.....the dollar has gone up too far too fast imo....all is not well in the US & I feel that the greenback still has some meds ta take....& the euro is lookin good for a long here as well. I'm also liken the long Aussie but that one seems a lil tougher trade to enter...not quite sure where it wants to base post rate cut. I still say Australia (& most everwhere else for that matter) is far better off right now than the US fundamentally speaking....then again...4x is more T/A then anything else.
Guess it depends on what one is lookin for in a board....
GREAT spot here folks....bookmarked & will check back a few times each day.
Worn's Disclaimer: I gotz much ta learn however I have been consistently demo'n w/Oanda for 15 mos now...2nd demo stint actually...1st one was approx 2 yrs ago for a few mos w/MG Financial where there's a fixed 5 pip spread...OUCH!!
I must admit, I feel as if I can't hold a candle (pun INtended) to you expert chartist's here....which is why I'm headed for the back of the class here & plan on takin copious notes.
Great-informative posts here since inception....& I do have lots ta say but will do my very best ta stay on topic...which as some of you may know is a challenge for me ;)~
W/re to Oanda....it wasn't my original pick so it took me some time to get the feel down...but now I've found that it's fairly user friendly & I love the fact that you can trade micro lots & small leverage ta boot...perfect for a Newbie like myself. Still have yet to go live....I jus may end up bein one of those who demo for 2+ yrs b4 I can find my 4x kahoona's. I have done fairly well w/demoing....been entering the monthly IHub contests over at Oanda & won a month or 2 over the past yr....I'm also in the yrly too....was actually in 2nd place on that one for much of the yr but then I took a big stumble on the recent Aussie fall & Jester & few others have overtaken me....was up close to 300% at one pt....now it's down to a paltry +50% roi or thereabouts.
W/re to stops....I hear ya....I think it is best to only have mental stops...but then of course u r babysitten your positions...which should be a pre-req anyway I guess. W/re to trailing stops....sure wish Oanda would offer those....my only real beef w/them & is why I'm not quite sold on'em when I do finally decide ta go live.
Lastly, my biggest challenge (other than bein a novice at T/A as compared to all you pro's 'round here) is that I'm on the left coast clock...so trading the London session is a tough one for me. I'm lucky if I ever see the London open....early Asia is about the best I can do. I'm a stay at home dad w/2 young one's.....6 & almost 3....so I gotta be up at 6:30 & do all that I can ta get them out the door by 8a pst....which is just about the time everything begins to wind down...tphhfftt!!
OK...I'm babblin now....to the back of the class w/my notepad....just one request if ya don't mind....when talking about all the charts you're posting (awesome stuff btw...TYVM!!!).....pls keep it as elementary as possible...some of the abbreviations I've seen here are still somewhat foreign to me. So pls be patient w/me...I'm sure I'll be askin lotza stoopit ?'s ;)~
Thx again for puttin this board up...time to go act like a 4x sponge.

Ahhh yes..the Dead...I shoulda known that...bein from the SF Bay Area 'n all...shame on me....tho admittedly, for some reason I wasn't really ever into the Dead all that much.
I hear ya w/re to the patient thing....agreed....sure wish that was the case w/me when I was beg school....lotza stuff was forced down my throat at an early age when I wasn't even close to being ready for it all. My parents where in the midst of a divorce when I was approx 5-6...right when I was beg school....was tough one me....so I began stuttering & had to go to speech therapy classes....was also a slow learner....still am to this day I feel. I still think I had some kinda learning disabiltiy....& of course w/all that was goin on in my family life during my adoloesence...that sure didn't help matters. Was w/mom only on the wknds, dad had full custody (& he sure was a hard nose...not a very nuturing guy, etc) so I felt fairly bounced around. Guess that's one reason why I'm a stay at home dad these days.....really wanna provide a nuturing enviornment....at least better than the one I had....don't think my girls realize how good they have it....no daycare whatsoever...& if anyone ever watches'em...it's family...tonz of cousins their age, etc.
yeah....all in all....who cares if she doesn't get oudda diapers by pre-school next mos....she can start the next qtr I suppose....no big e.
But w/re to school....they both really look forward to it...after all, their mom is a 2nd grade teacher so they really love everything about school....sometimes my wife even brings our oldest to her classroom for the day....which Haley really enjoys...hangin out w/all the older 2nd graders...& so far, all of my wife's classes have enjoyed Haley when she comes as well...always askin when she's comin to the classroom next to spend the day...good stuff!! So of course the lil one (3 in Sept) enjoys all that stuff too....I keep tellin her....if you wanna go to Gingerbread (our local pre-school) you gotta be a big girl & not wear the pull-ups...big girl underwear only.... that seemed to be working at 1st....but now as I said...backwards we've gone for some reason.
OK...there's an wknd OT ramble for ya ;)~

Warren Buffet
Yeah...aint that the truth.....nothing's remained the same for at least the last yr +.
I suppose that's one primary explanation why the equities are movin higher....cuz oil is fallen off. Which still kinda makes no sense to me cuz the xio is still high relatively speaking from a yr ago.
Seems the powers that be are conditioning (manipulating) us quite well....same as it ever was. After all, everyone is sayin if the xio can get down to a 110 base it'll allow the mrkts to truly go into full fledged bull mode & that this is the only thing holding us back....which could be true I suppose....but it still just doesn't wash for me.
110 oil is still at least 10-15% above where it was averaging last yr...so what they are tryin to tell us now is...."suck in that 10-15% increase & all is well".....unreal!! Like we should be sooo happy that oil aint 150 or worse yet, north of 150.
Such BS it all is....not only should oil get back to at least sub 100-95.....but we also need a few other fundi's to swing the way of the consumer as well to really make a true, considerable diff as far as all things macro go. Too many folks (media) have the rose colored glasses on.
So if we continue to see broader mrkt strength under these current (what I'll refer to as) "mrkt falsehoods" for lack of a better term, any gains will/should be artificial & fairly short lived. We still have some meds ta take.
"Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing."
Warren Buffet
Well...was actually a Led Zep ref there.....
but whose Rose? Or shall I ask? ;)~
BTW.....when does school begin for your clan? Read your post about it being this time fo yr.
We begin 1st grade next Tues (8:15...gonna be tough as we've always been Pre-School & K'garten Late Birds) & da lil 1 begins Pre-School in another mos...as long as she decides to stop regressing w/the potty training. That's been the strangest thing....she was fine or at least imporving all summer long....even on our trips..couldn't've been better....then as soon as we get home...backwards she goes. Her older sis never regressed....even when younger sis was born....was right at the time she was gettin oudda diapers & startin Pre-School too...she actually had her very 1st day of Pre-School the very next day after her lil sis was born....so we thought for sure she'd regress some...but nope, no porb at all w/the oldest one at that time. But now I guess the lil 1 wants to stay the lil one awhile longer...lol
Oh well....what ya gonna do....the trials & turbulations of a stay at home dad...lol But I digress...apologies....at least itza Fri so a lil OT aint too bad....OK back to da biz at hand.
Ramble on!!/eom
