I reduced PM holdings first thing yesterday morning, down to 10% now. Staying there for now. Reduced other holdings also.
I'm liking money market fund rates right now :).
Needham upgrades AAPL, I hear. Anyone else hear that? eom.
Increase cash once daily
If you don't it could be gone
Financial haiku
CWPC - did some buying, increasing the position sevenfold rather than the fourfold I planned yesterday - buys at 6.33 and 6.35.
Frank has missed a call before.
I went 20% PM equities on Thursday.
Going heavy CWPC on Monday - plan to quardruple my position. They are going to be reporting drill results soon, getting an AMEX listing soon and I am feeling a bit like gambling *g*
Holding GPXM some AAPL and DIS. Cars had a good weekend and Pirates of the Caribbean II is due up sometime this summer.
Gonna keep some cash also :). that is the stock account.
Mutual fund account is still 80% cash.
MS Office
We have it through a site license with Kathy's college. I think it cost us $10.
I like iWeb so far, but only due to the blogging feature.
I bought the Take Control of iWeb book, but have not looked at it yet. Will this weekend and will report.
Smart money at 59 bottom
There was a double bottom at ~ 58.50. Not a TA kind of guy, but I hear that could be positive :).

I bought a week bit more today. Hope I didn't buy it from Bootz.
July 19,
I'm hoping for a big ole buying opportunity soon thereafter
If Apple gets enough mindshare,
It won't make as big a difference as it has in the past, I think.
I have an account with a bunch of mutual funds - it is
the public employee equiv. of a 401k. We get to choose options - Large Growth, Large Value, Mid/Small, International, Medium term fixed, short term fixed, Balanced (a combination), total Stock Index and one other I can't think of now.
I have split my monthly contributions between Large Growth, Large Value, Mid/Small and International for a three years now. Put all but International into the short term fixed (a money market fund, basically) a few weeks ago, but did not change the allocation of my monthly contributions.
So far, I likey. Since it is pre-tax money and it is an unqualified plan (no penalty for withdrawal before age 59.5), it is one of my favorite things :).
I may be a bigger spender soon.
I went to the back room and used the G4 iMac tonight whilst Kathy was doing some free lance work. I love the form factor of the iLamp, but it is really a dog and hard to tolerate after using the G5 iMac. Saw more beachballs than I do on vacation.
MacBook in my not too distant future, I tell you.
Intel upgrade cycle
This here Luddite will probably keep replacing his every 3 years or so, but I hope dilleet and lots of other folks do so more often.
If you didn't own a Mac of some sort Roni, I'd swear you were a Luddite or at least over 60
hehehe. I like net storage for some home stuff on my .Mac drive. I use network drives a lot at work. We got a staff there to keep that stuff secure.
Google = P/E of about 70. Don't hafta to be a Luddite to avoid that. I have long admired Eric Schmidt, though. He is a smart cookie, but didn't have what it took at Novell.
I am not enamored with web apps or with google.
I prefer files to be on my computer with the option to upload them to webspace if I choose to.
Google is still well below where dilleet went gaga over google, even though he did not buy any shares with his own money *grin*, as I recall, subject of course to the limitations of my memory.
Wake me up when the HUI hits 300.
In the meantime, MA has been fun amongst the carnage.
Have Bono's people call Sir Paul's people. eom.
A lot of people were. eom.
Hey froggie dude
That is ok with the many of us who sold most in January.
wise guy :)
prevent defense
I dunno - I am just a simple guy. I got me some stock. I got me some cash. I sold a bunch of stocks a little while back and I'll buy them back a little while from now. Would have a wad more money if I had sold them sooner, but made a wad anyway.
I like wads :).
ps. MA is doing all right.
JimisJim, there are at least two
pretty fair international bond funds that don't hedge currency risks - one is a T Rowe Price fund, the other is run by American Century (BEGBX). They will benefit from a falling dollar, but timing is everything, eh?
JimisJim
I am more comfortable with the notion near 4 1/2% for the money market fund it sits in than I was when it was near 0%....but even 0% is better than a pretty good haircut. But, this year is pretty much made for me - it is gravy now, so I am being a bit defensive, perhaps.
stagflate
Go higher cash Jim:).
I'm at ~ 50% now and headed higher in our investment accounts
Sexton: I heard AXP is a better bet than MA.
We can hear a lot. Each of us has to decide to what, from that large universe, we will pay attention.
Sister of Mimi Farina
I kinda like MA here, bought it last week. Also like AAPL for a 6-12 month hold.
Have one small PM position (GRS), one moly position that I have had since March 2005 with a couple of adds (GPXM) and one specualtive energy (CWPC) that I have made some money with trading and now just holding a position I plan to hold for some time.
And Cash. Will wait till later in the year to go heavy PM again - later in the year could be late June or July. Last year I started buying in July. Worked ok. In fact, playing the long term seasonal chart has worked pretty well over the past year.
Remember Barbera's call, and I do listen to Puplava every week. Pretty much ignored that call, but not many of the ones I hear on Puplava.
Mastercard (MA), AAPL, DIS, CWPC, GPXM PEIX and GRS
are the ones in my company stock stable right now. GRS is 3.2% of total in that portfolio. Close to 1/3 cash.
Will look at more PM stocks later in the year.
OT: Mastercard leading the charge today, with Apple following at a slower pace. Portfolio down to 3.2% precious metals after sales yesterday morning.

Concerns about buying AAPL at the moment
Another concern, I think, is whether the current quarter's numbers will suck. I think there is a chance that it will. If it does, that would qualify as a back up the truck moment. I have 25% of the AAPL that I had at the end of last year, so still have a lot of room to buy - and a lot of cash - which is pretty much where to be for now, IMO.
Best Buy foothold
That is good to know. Apple stores rock, but wider distribution is good, particularly with Apple's higher, iPod driven brand awareness - even given the fact the iPod brand does not translate 100% into Apple/Mac brand awareness. Point is, I don't think Macs will suffer the ignoble fate in general retail outlets as they have in the past. Will, for sure, be better than all those Performas at the Montgomery Ward store.

Thurrot on MacBook
Music to my longer (after today) ears :)
Not looking like much of a bounce to me :).
The street is infatuated with the iPod, and with good reason. I think the story over the next year is going to be the Mac, but will have some indication whether I am correct on the consumer side come October and January - and by April and July on the tower side, or whatever comes along to replace the tower.
Of course, there is always the possibility of goddess knows what on the iPod / new product side. We've all read the same speculations there.
It can always be sold for a small loss, or
optimistically held :).
Position building can be......interesting.
Bought more at 60.04 and 60.10. I figure it is near the 200 moving average, according to lines on a graph, and playing for a bounce here. Of course, it may not bounce :).
Typo, yes it was. em.
dilleet, comcast
I worried about that a little, since a friend has wireless net set up by comcast. I just plugged in the Airport Express, used the setup assistant and no comcast issues so far. As near as I can tell, they didn't get into the middle of anything.
Did have a service tech over for a couple of hours on Saturday, but that was due to squirrel damage to the cables from the pole to the house :)
Order @ 59.59 got filled.
Mebbe I oughta put one in for $49.95 now - though that one would be a GTC order :)
Just put in a limit order
to buy a small amount at $59.95.
Blue, I did this and
The only way I was able to receive email on the second computer, the one not directly connected, was to turn off the firewall on the one that was directly connected. Multiple Apple Geniuses were unable to help and finally suggested I call the mothership for help. Since I was planning to by an Airport Express anyway, I did not call the mothership.
Airport Express working great. No issues. Still have to do the USB printer thing and the speaker thing, but may not do that until I get the MacBook. Kathy, OTOH, thinks we just oughta take the iPod and speakers out to the deck when we want music out there :). FYI, living in a 1200 square foot house, I doubt that we will even need more than one Airport or Airport Express.
Want WiFi for your digital camera?
Why? So I don't have to plug it into the computer to transfer photos? Are there any other reasons?
