Not precisely, the top of their web page article reads Jan 22, 2007 (if you view the article link I posted below). However that web site may just update their page dates automatically. Note that their copyright date below the article indicates 2007 (Year may also be on autopilot).
I would suspect late 2006.

From Atari To Antipasti (GIN Article)
Busnhell’s uWink Combines Games, Food and Fun
Nolan Bushnell has been in the computer games industry since it was an industry. He is sometimes referred to as one of its founding fathers. Perhaps his most celebrated accomplishment was creating Atari, but many people don’t know that he has also been into restaurants as well, and founded the well-known Chuck E. Cheese chain.
So combining a new restaurant chain with computer games might seem like a natural fit. But this is not the standard arcade with food model. The new uWink restaurants – starting up in California and then expanding across the country – are designed to be an extension of a person’s digital life. All ordering is done via terminals at each table, and you can challenge other tables to games of skill, like trivia. Combine that with a festive atmosphere filled with DLP projectors all around, and you should have a unique dining experience for a few people or a big group of friends.
We asked Bushnell to dish about the new place, and to give us a sample of what treats visitors can expect when they shuffle into a shiny new uWink.
GiN: After working for years at Atari making games, what made you want to get back into the restaurant business? They would seem like completely separate areas.
Bushnell: Food and fun have always gone together. I perceive my skill at using technology for fun. Games are just one element.
GiN: Can you describe the type of experience you wanted to provide people when they come to eat at one of your places?
Bushnell: I want a new social game experience that cannot be had elsewhere.
GiN: Specifically, you order all your food from your table but also can play games there? Do the diners pay for the games they play as well, or is this a way to entertain them while they wait for the food to arrive?
Bushnell: We have both free and pay to play games. Some have prizes and some are just for fun.
GiN: There are game and food establishments now, such as Dave and Busters. But there you eat and then go and play. How important is it to bring the concept together in one place and at one table for that matter?
Bushnell: I think that the arcade business is somewhat out of date. The social fun with a group is the issue for which I am striving, not having some arcade with food thing.
GiN: How is the establishment organized? In other words, does a hostess seat people at the different tables and then the waiter only comes out to deliver the food?
Bushnell: You are seated and currently while we are new we have an Entertainment Director explain and teach our system. The food is brought by runners who also can answer questions.
GiN: What is the overall atmosphere of the restaurant or is the theme really what goes on at the tables itself?
Bushnell: Remember that the walls are washed with video projections. The atmosphere is very warm, hip, and interesting, and the table terminals just add to the fun.
GiN: Do you think the rise of the Internet culture where people chat, make friends and even conduct business without ever actually meeting makes a place like yours more feasible? I mean even in the 1980s something like this would have been a difficult concept for people to follow.
Bushnell: uWink is just a physical extension of your “private” digital life. Everyone’s “digital life” is very robust, but it’s very private – you do it 1:1 and at your home usually. uWink is very much about providing a physical space to digital life. People are expecting to have increased transactions using touch screens from ATM, Tickets, Hotel Rooms. The step was a natural one to move towards restaurants.
GiN: What kind of food does the restaurant specialize in? And what is an example of the price range?
Bushnell: We serve Modern Comfort Food with a no veto premise. Food should be simple but great. Food that everyone knows (comfort food favorites like Mac n’ Cheese) but updated with flavors for today’s tastes. We expect a lunch tab of $14 and dinner about $18 (per person).
GiN: What types of games can people expect to play while they are there, and what, if any, are the costs?
Bushnell: The games are simple and social from Trivia to card games to games of perception. Most of the games are free.
GiN: You have started your first restaurant and I hear others are pending. Where can people find one of these new places, and where are the planned expansions?
Bushnell: We’ll start first in California, and then next year there is a good chance that there will be one near most large population centers.

Beating Around the Bushnell – Info & Personal Opinions
Mr. Nolan Bushnell has informed this board that he was in London on 1/12/07 and that he was in New York last week. Not to spur speculation but I seriously doubt he was simply on a vacation or was visiting acquaintances. The man is impressive, his every move and word is hand crafted for the sole purpose of making uWink a Global success, as soon as it is humanly and financially feasible to accomplish. By now, most here would agree that the uWink Company Concept via his Prototype Restaurant (not the Flagship) has now been Proven to Work, and they, and we, are all now breathing that proverbial sigh of relief.
For those newer board visitors that are not fully aware of the concept, uWink is a social entertainment restaurant where guests can order their food, drinks, and interactive media via touch screens located at their table, and employees utilize their outgoing personalities while they act as runners to bring their guests food and drinks expediently. From the uWink 10QSB: "Our longer term growth strategy is to open additional company-owned and/or company-managed restaurants in new markets and to franchise our concept, focusing on MULTIPLE-UNIT area development agreements with experienced operators. We are targeting a mix of one-third company-owned restaurants and two-thirds franchised restaurants. We expect we will also seek to generate additional revenue through the sale of media equipment to franchisees."
The have clearly stated that “in addition to expansion through its franchise program, uWink plans to open new company-owned restaurants in the Southern California region in the coming months.” Their company website (uwink.com) also states: “For those interested in franchising, we are currently able to offer franchises in 29 States and territories. As we begin our franchise operations in the United States, we are also proceeding with the registration process for international franchise opportunities.”
I am confident that Nolan means to do what he has set out to do. I am excited that the UFOC is now in place in a 29 states so far (to date). I am confident that the uWink concept fits all generations and all types (their target demographic of 21 to 35 year old woman, everyone’s kids, the guys of all types and ages, the baby boomer generation, etc., etc.). I am confident the concept has been proven in a Grade ‘C’ location (an important prototype strategy on their part). I am confident that there are many developers with money that will want in on uWink.
Think about these thoughts:
Most Couples now both work, they eat out a lot. Those without kids will enjoy the concept over other places. Those with kids will enjoy it even more as their children are entertained, and they will be steered more quickly to a uWink by their kids. Girls and Ladies will go, guys will of course follow. Dates will bring others and meet other couples. Singles will seek singles. Kids will bring their friends. Baby Boomers will bring their grandkids. Malls will want the traffic draw a uWink will bring them. They will build them, and we all will come to spend our money. Nolan has created an ever-changing social lab that everyone will want to play in.
We have greatly changed as a nation. We like to eat out, and we like to be entertained instead of entertaining ourselves (the old days). Kids are grown on games, the adults are installing Media Rooms (I have a comprehensive one myself). In this era of affluence and desire the country at large wants HD Home Entertainment with wide screens and surround sound computerized gaming. Combining food, fun, and media When we Go Out to eat is simply Brilliant!
As my profile says… “uBuy until uSell”. For those that can not read into that idea, it means that if a willing buyer (having the resources) would not continue to buy at higher and higher levels, then that individual should consider selling his / her position, as they apparently can not justify why they currently hold a stock (at it's current PPS). If they can not justify a number of reasons to buy more of stock they already own (again, having the resources), why would they think others would buy more...
FWIW:
Had 28K shares when I first joined and posted on this board, the steady trend gave me the time and reason to continue to add. Frankly, never thought I would ever be in for so much (154K+ shares), as I acknowledge it is a vast sum for any investor to commit to any one stock. But this is no ordinary opportunity to me, and it presents a max profit potential that few other stocks may come close to.
Of course, if I am proven wrong later on down the market road, it’s going to take over 58 years to write this off (I will never make it). But if I am right in my beliefs (or even half right) it’s going to be a 24/7/365 yearly blast spending those uWink profits. At my current age of 52, or at any age over 21, you still have to fully play all the worthwhile stocks to the max when the odds are likely in your favor. Obviously with my current position I have built, I am playing this one more then any other right now… FWIW: So far, I am already clearly way ahead (w/ an avg of $1.45 PPS) and please do not think for a moment that cashing those chips earned is not tempting. The reasons for Not doing so should be obvious to anyone serious enough to do their own DD, and who perhaps understands the future potential that yet awaits us all…That of course means those of us that are Actually playing to win with our money involved (at risk). Playing on paper just does not count kids (you know who you are), put some real money in the kitty and those that are making a killing on paper will gain a real world and worthwhile education in managing your emotions, when your hard earned money is actually at risk on a daily basis. To conclude this banter, good luck to all, however you decide to play.
Netman Note: I try to base my own trading decisions on my own DD, research, evaluation, constant re-evaluation, insight and observations. Current UWNK trading action is STILL reflecting short-term price action trading in the overall scheme of things (try to think longer intervals with stock reactions with perspective to the company results and company / products / franchise potential). I believe most of the true FMV of this diverse company has yet to be priced in.
Of course, everyone else has to do their own DD, and then draw and constantly evaluate their own conclusions and then place their own bets accordingly. All just IMO (not advice / none given), we all make (and live with) our own investment and/or trading choices. I Wish You All the best in your own investment and/or trading decisions, I've obviously made mine...
Full Disclosure: Currently Holding (Long) 154,117 UWNK Shares.
PKG, if you must caution me young sir, please post valid reasons why, instead of simply quoting some tiresome old phrases (we all have heard before) like you did. I am not in love with any stock, nor are they like selecting a passing streetcar metaphor, and you suggesting I am not being “objective” was truly laughable. Other silly comments such as your comment regarding me not being able to remember later on what I paid for my uWink shares (to somehow support your ill-stated logic for buying later on - perhaps) tells me volumes as to how You gauge and exercise your Own stock trading skills sir. Why you (and others) do not spend more time and DD on gauging potential stock investments instead of critiquing other board posters makes no sense to those that have been active in the stock market for well over two decades.
M thoughts and beliefs based on DD are still fully intact. If you have something actually worthwhile to refute DD, other then clichés, please do post your verifiable info or your opinions, providing you can back them up when they are refuted sir. I await your further critique!
I will post my information & opinions post again for you next,
and also as an effort to get this board back on uWink thoughts.

The post was Not directed at, nor about ‘Rawnoc’…duh!
Some clarity of pose below to grasp my metaphoric posting
“wine” = whine!
spilled wine = To Whine!
wine maker = a constant Whiner!
trade merchant = a stock trader
other cases = other statements made
refreshments rhymes with investments!
Market Place = Stock Market
barter = to trade
claim false goods = make false statements
own words betray their true nature = words do not match actions or reality
and the vision to see beyond the next horizon = short term vs long term view
“Tis far better to be thought a spoiled vintage, then for one to constantly pass their only bottle around and thereby remove all doubt…”
“Far better to be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
I would hope the rest of the post, and the context inferred makes sense now. Thought it was rather obvious whom this was about, and you guys would catch on... I promise I will not be so subtle in the future when I am referring to our resident whiner!
That spilled wine reeks of sour grapes and is leaving a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. Tis far better to be thought a spoiled vintage, then for one to constantly pass their only bottle around and thereby remove all doubt, by those with more discerning palates. Tis truly best to discard and disregard all of that particular wine makers other cases (lock, stock, and barrel as they say).
Other trade merchants always know where to find the best refreshments. They seek and share valid info, and prefer to associate with fellow trade merchants that function as they would conduct themselves. Unfortunately in the Market Place where all come to barter… there will always be those types that claim false goods, and great storage holds of their stock. However, their very own words betray their true nature to those that have clarity of thought, and the vision to see beyond the next horizon…

Now on uWink Web Site - News > Press Coverage
"An interesting move by the amusement sector to utilise its skills in the “Eater-Tainment” scene can be observed with the launch of the uWink Restaurant concept. Legendary founder of Atari, Nolan Bushnell’s latest project is a dining experience that offers a social element. Using interactive touchscreen units on every table, for self-service ordering and multi-game content, the uWink Restaurant concept aims to create a Starbucks-style franchise. The idea of interactive ‘self-service’ table terminals is also available from UK start-up Escapism Media with its Escape Pod – bringing mini-game entertainment directly to diners’ tables."

BTW Board Buds: Will not be able to Regularly post or respond during market hours as my Primary working schedule changed as of today (I also run a side business). I finally got a break from the rotating 12 hour day and night shifts I have been working at my Primary Tech position for many years. Have changed to Monday to Friday 6:30am to 3pm and therefore will normally make it home for about the last 10 minutes of daily market activity. FWIW – Posting this info simply because I did not want anyone to think I was ignoring you, if / when you may write to me during the day concerning UWNK. Will continue to read board posts on my breaks and after working hours, and have recently acquired a Verizon Pocket PC with unlimited data access that will act as my improved (remote) stock trading station (when required) and also enables me non-company access to the web, so I will be able to read (and reply) via Ihub when feasible to do so. This new work schedule will of course cut into (not eliminate) my (other stocks) day-trading activities that I am very fond of, however it is a small price to pay for being able to work 8 hour days with weekends off. Just cause you do not see me posting regularly, does not mean I am not following the stock and the board. - Netman
Rawnoc - Yahoo Board Club House Mentality.
Had posted an invite on the uWink Yahoo Board
on Jan 7th to suggest another uWink Board for

Just finished reading all the latest posts on the
Yahoo board, including yours with the Marketing

not interested at all in seeking any info from the
folks that have been following this stock for years,
and have been accumulating shares since bargain
basement prices. Will Not extend another invite,
nor bother to share info there again as most act
as if we are intruding on their Yahoo Club House.
There are none so blind as those that will not see.
FYI - Attention uWink Board Buds
