Oh, please, have seen van loads of dirty, lawless, immigrants overrunning whatever shit hole area you live in?
The fact of the matter is that we need more immigrants - have you not noticed all the help wanted signs for low wage jobs? The desperate need of farms to find field workers? The towns dying in the rural areas of the midWest and South because everyone's moving away?
You can't complain about inflation if you're anti-immigrant. The labor shortage drives up the cost of labor which impacts the price of just about everything.
Germany gets it:

I remember when the first Sex Pistols album came out, it was world shattering.

I haven't heard of any abortion bounty hunters in Texas actually reporting anyone, have you?
Next up: women can't leave their homes without a male family member as an escort. And there's really no reason for the little ladies to go to high school or beyond.
I agree. The Citizens United ruling will be the death knell for democracy in the good old US of A.
Corporations are people, my friend.
We, as a country, spend more on health care and get less in return than every other industrialized country. How is this a sustainable plan? Bah, socialism.
https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2020/jan/us-health-care-global-perspective-2019
I'm covered as a spouse by my wife's continuing retiree health plan and her union's (DC37) drug plan. If we weren't , I can't even imagine how people pay for this stuff, it's truly insane.
As I mentioned, my mother called 911, then collapsed and died. The ambulance came and they tried to revive her in her living room and when that failed they took her to the hospital. At the hospital they tried to revive her again and failed again. For all this, we got a bill from the hospital for $9000.00
No doubt, there is, or was, pretty good upward mobility in this country. We currently live near a lot of immigrants and understand that while they might be landscapers or house cleaners, their grandchildren will be lawyers and doctors living in high priced suburbs.
https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/09/social-mobility-upwards-decline-usa-us-america-economics/#:~:text=For%20decades%2C%20a%20majority%20of,harder%20to%20make%20this%20ascent.
Ok, thanks for that clarification, another myth busted.
I think it might be a situational and / or location thing. When my mother died at home in Florida at the age of 92, the medical authorities there wanted to do an autopsy.
Nobody had to ask them, she had called 911 and collapsed and had already been taken to a hospital, but we had to fight to avoid having one done. I mean, at her age, what the effin' eff was an autopsy going to show?
Not only that but, also uninvited, the police came and searched her medicine cabinet to see if she was taking drugs and what kind.
I believe insurance companies are in on this also, they don't pay out for suicides and want to know the circumstances of people dying alone at home.
That's the myth of America and immigration, but.....
I remember reading about the "no Irish need apply" signs, and Italians were treated poorly upon arrival. Ditto for the Poles and Russians who came here, and no one put down welcome mats for Eastern European Jews or Puerto Ricans.
That was in the 20th century and more recently we've witnessed anti Muslim immigrant sentiments and prejudice against Black immigrants from Somalia, Haiti, Nigeria, etc.
Let's not forget the lack of love for our Asian brethren coming over from Japan, China, and Vietnam, not to mention India.
So when exactly did this nation of immigrants actually welcome immigrants? I'd say the white nationalists have been here and active all along, am I right, Charles Lindbergh?
The only words you have to remember when trying fathom the reason so many are so loyal to Trump: white nationalism

Legend has it that Houdini died from a punch to his stomach.
Everyone testifying to the 1/6 Committee is a Republican, this is about as far from a Democratic witch hunt as is possible.

Someone, I forget who, recently wrote that only one party, the Democrats, is willing to lose an election and then acknowledge the loss.
Until very recently I thought fears for our democracy were overblown, but not really any more. These crazy em-effers will do anything to create a theocracy and that includes installing an autocrat. The belief is that right now at least 4 of the Supremes are willing to vote to allow states to overturn the results of a popular vote to install whomever they please.

She may feel scorned, but I'd guess that she definitely feels relieved. Like Bannon and O'Riley's ex-wives, to be finally released from these horses asses has to be great.
Her biggest challenge might be finding ex-hubby's stash of offshore money.
Agree on your last sentence. Or while he was awake.
Odd that you've determined she was the scorned party. You'd think any woman with any sense at all would be the scorner of the thing that Jones has become.
But more importantly, why did she wait until now to dangle this tease? Has she just remembered this stuff or was she maybe looking to make a deal that didn't work out?
For all we know, she might be no more ethical or reliable than he is.

It's interesting but begs the question: why would someone unjustly (according to Assange) accused of a crime, seek sanctuary in an embassy instead of fighting the charges?
Apparently there are libel / defamation laws in Sweden, too:
https://kellywarnerlaw.com/sweden-defamation-laws#:~:text=1)%20If%20the%20defendant%20is,to%20two%20(2)%20years.
So, why not fight to have your good name cleared and then sue for defamation? His actions make him look guilty, surely the justice system in every country in the world can't be rigged against Assange.
Sorry, this makes no sense. I never claimed that I'm taking care of all the women in my life, they are quite capable on their own, thank you.
You let the women in your life know that you're trying to take care of them which is admirable if they're children. Otherwise, why do they need taking care of by you and what services do you provide?
If you don't want to explain yourself, why bother posting stuff? If you're wealthy or have legendary sexual prowess, say, I get it, but otherwise I found it a bit unclear and condescending.
Seriously? I hope you do a good job of mansplaining yourself to the little ladies.
Why would adult women need you to take care of them (if they're not incapacitated by illness or chronic ailments) - what can you do / provide that they can't do as well or better?
It seems like you're conveniently forgetting stuff about Assange:
"Assange fled in 2012 after Swedish law enforcement pursued him for allegedly raping female WikiLeaks volunteers." (that's plural women)
But that's cool, amirite?
The Don Winslow? I'm a fan.
I know, it seems like almost all of the cleaners, handymen, landscapers, housepainters, and contractor employees, around here, are immigrants from Central America and working for cash.
Not to generalize, but my experience with them, overall, is that they're lovely people, here to work hard and make a better life for themselves and their kids. The actual leeches on our society are the Trumpster types, people who think they're owed something because they're white.
That number is also traditionally considered to be "full employment".
https://www.bloomberg.com/quicktake/full-employment
There are a certain number of workers who are naturally unemployed in the sense that they're between jobs but will be soon starting a new one.
The more important issue is the underground economy, those who get paid in cash, don't pay taxes, and don't file for unemployment. There are, literally, millions of them and that actually lowers the overall unemployment rate further.
The one child policy was a disaster and has been rescinded.
https://www.npr.org/2021/06/21/1008656293/the-legacy-of-the-lasting-effects-of-chinas-1-child-policy
Among other things, it meant that one person was responsible for two aging adults, possibly for decades. This is a detriment to growing the middle class and letting people spend discretionary income.
If a government can mandate that you have to have children (Roe), it can mandate that you can't have children.
Sure, the population bomb, I get it. But doesn't this go back to Malthus in the late 18th century?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malthusianism
You have that, and then you have out of control climate change with droughts and floods and all that, crop damage and the loss of arable land.
Then you have the potential danger of nuclear war as Putin and NATO gear up for a possible struggle.
And lead in the water and supply chain shortages and increasing maternal death rates and wheat shortages and caravans of killer immigrants and endless war almost everywhere.
So, good luck with the survival thing.
"Guide reproduction wisely - improving fitness and diversity;"
Genetic engineering for humans? I don't think so, the flip side of that harks back to the sterilization programs of the past, which were also done in the name of uplifting the race:

I don't really think that Trump's a conservative. He's a not very bright power mad wannabe tyrant, who was a useful idiot for the conservative cause (and Putin).
Democrats are the new conservatives, they propose and enact almost nothing that would be considered progressive by the standards of any other industrialized democracy.
Republicans have morphed into something unprecedented in American history, I think a name change to something like, The Craven Bitches Party, would work.
Miss Walker is in the house!
Maugham's best, in my opinion.
I agree about the funeral day, I guess cops are cops no matter their nationalities.
Honestly, the world is moving beyond the Israel vs. Palestinian thing, it's going nowhere. In the meanwhile, Israel has been selling natural gas to Egypt and Jordan and desalinated water to all comers.
When Egypt and Jordan were occupying the West Bank and Gaza, you didn't see Hamas firing rockets indiscriminately into those countries or doing much in the way of suicide bombings:
"The Gaza Strip and the West Bank had been occupied by Egypt and Jordan, respectively, since the 1948 Arab–Israeli War until the Six-Day War of 1967." Wikipedia.
Plus, Israel has recently started working with other countries in the region for mutual defense:
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/20/world/middleeast/israel-arab-military-alliance.html
The Palestinians have Jordan, that's their country - Hamas and the PA should try spending more of those foreign aid dollars on infrastructure and the economy and
maybe less on bombs. And they're partnered with Iran, so they can expect more hurt to come. Time to stop celebrating murderers as glorious heroes and get with the 21st century program.
Oh, ok, didn't realize that's what you meant.
As background to the murdered journalist discussion:
https://www.hrw.org/news/2021/08/12/palestinian-rockets-may-killed-civilians-israel-gaza
These Gaza victims of Hamas bombings are then photographed and paraded as victims of Israeli war crimes.
The murderer(s) of this journalist should be punished - I used to be an accredited journalist so am sensitive to this issue. But the Middle East is a labyrinth of false narratives.
“In war, truth is the first casualty.”
Again, unless the bullet has the journalist's DNA on it, how do they know it's the one that killed her? Because the PA says so?
I'm not saying that that it wasn't an Israeli(s), but don't we need any real proof that it was actually that bullet to begin the examination? Otherwise it seems possible that a random bullet that was fired by an Israeli gun is being examined.
I didn't see anything about that in this story.
We all like paying less at the pump but a falling price of oil, per barrel, sends mixed signals. That is, in anticipation of a supposed possible upcoming recession (which actually isn't happening any time soon), oil will drop on expectations of lower demand. If the price of oil is actually forward looking, I don't know.
If you look at 2007, for example, the year end price was about $95 / gallon, but a year later, in the midst of the Great Recession, it was half that. In 2020, the year closed at $48.5 but the high this year has been about $109, which is at least a 30 year high. Anytime commodities reach multi-year highs, it's reasonable to expect the price to decline because nothing keeps going up forever.
I can't figure this stuff out, it's apparently both a good and bad thing, at the same time, that the price of oil has been coming down.
Yeah and in a few years with this Supreme Court, Bobert will be mandated to wear long sleeves, too.
It's a good piece, but I want to point out that ad revenues are relatively minor parts of Fox revenue streams.
"Despite the drop in viewers at Fox News, the network benefited from contractually triggered rate increases that cable operators pay to carry the channel. Licensing fees rose 6 percent to $1.07 billion. Advertising fell despite charging higher ad rates." - NY Times
https://unfoxmycablebox.com/
If cable companies ever can be persuaded to adopt ala carte pricing plans, then we'd be talking. In the meanwhile advertiser boycotts won't hurt the parent company too much.
Exactly. Can we get you a seat on the Supreme Court?
Indeed. It does seem to be more about controlling women than the sanctity of life. If the voters in this country don't get it together this fall and vote out these religious nut jobs, they're going to get exactly what they deserve.
And the rest of us, unfortunately, will be stuck with what they deserve, too.
Just curious, how do you determine the provenance of a fired bullet? I mean, they can tell what gun fired it, but is there someway to definitively conclude it was the bullet that killed this woman as opposed to, say, being dug out of a wall?
Mostly, you could say, that women, regardless of age, need abortions when they become pregnant.
In the case of someone so young, you'd have to conclude it was caused by rape, from within or without the family.
Now that you understand the "why" of it, theoretically, maybe you could offer different solutions to this problem, if you're against abortion. As long as one of them isn't to make her carry the fetus full term.
