JBI, Inc. Receives $1 Million From Debt Financing and Provides Processor No. Three Operations Update
Posted Aug 30th, 2013 in 2013 News Releases
Niagara Falls, New York, August 30, 2013 - JBI, Inc. (the “Company” or “JBI”) (OTCQB: JBII), a clean energy company that recycles waste plastic into liquid fuels, announced today the receipt of $1 million in proceeds from the sale of a secured promissory note and a successful first cycling of its flagship third processor leading to its continued operation.
On August 29th, the Company sold to Mr. Richard Heddle, the Company’s President, Chief Executive Officer and a director, a $1 million 12% secured promissory note, together with a five-year warrant to purchase up to one million shares of the Company’s common stock at an exercise price of $0.54 per share. Gross proceeds to the company were $1 million. The Company had previously reported the entry into a term sheet agreement with Mr. Heddle concerning the note financing. Further details regarding the financing can be found in the Company’s Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“This financing is a crucial bridge for our Company, as we continue to move forward with our new executive team and implement strategies for cost reduction, while also focusing on building fuel production momentum,” stated Chief Financial Officer Nicholas Terranova.
As previously planned, the Company cooled and cycled processor number three, it’s recently commissioned Plastic2Oil® processor, for approximately six days to inspect the machine internally, perform routine safety checks, and make minor adjustments to the machine’s flue gas piping. Processor number three’s initial production run lasted a total of 30 days, until the machine was cooled down intentionally.
“The speed in which we were able to cycle processor number three was very encouraging. We believe the technology behind our third processor is absolutely world-class. With our previously disclosed spending cuts and production momentum, we continue to progress with an eye on moving this company closer to a cash flow positive state,” stated Richard Heddle, JBI’s Chief Executive Officer.
JBI Chief of Technology, John Bordynuik stated, “Processor number three, as expected, had very mild amounts of coking throughout the pre-melt and the residue removal system has been operating as we had hoped. The resultant mild coking in the pre-melt was expected, due to our flue gas piping needing to be slightly adjusted. The reactor and residue kilns were both in excellent condition during our visual inspection. In addition, the adjustments that were made to the machine’s flue gas piping have helped the machine achieve ideal heat profiling, which is precisely what we were striving for during this period of downtime. Our next step for processor number three is to work on maximizing feed rates.”

John Bordynuik's 'Plastic Eating Monster'
In Niagara Falls, NY, John Bordynuik's 'Plastic Eating Monster' can even vaporize thick HDPE plastic into a cleaner burning number 2 fuel. Put plastic in one end of the machine and out the other end comes diesel, petroleum distillate, light naphtha and gases such as methane, ethane, butane and propane. The machine accepts unwashed, unsorted waste plastics, composites and commingled materials and returns about 1 gallon of fuel from 8.3 pounds of plastic. And the processor uses its own off-gases as fuel, therefore using minimal energy to run the machine. John currently has two massive steel processors up and running, with financing secured for three more to be built in the very near future.
The technology is not overly complicated, plastics are shredded and then heated in an oxygen-free chamber (known as pyrolysis) to about 400 degrees celsius. As the plastics boil, gas is separated out and often reused to fuel the machine itself. The fuel is then distilled and filtered. Because the entire process takes place inside a vacuum and the plastic is melted - not burned, minimal to no resultant toxins are released into the air, as all the gases and or sludge are reused to fuel the machine.
For this technology, the type of plastic you convert to fuel is important. If you burn pure hydrocarbons, such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), you will produce a fuel that burns fairly clean. But burn PVC, and large amounts of chlorine will corrode the reactor and pollute the environment. Burning PETE releases oxygen into the oxygen deprived chamber thereby slowing the processing, and PETE recycles efficiently at recycling centers, so it is best to recycle PETE traditionally. HDPE (jugs) and LDPE (bags and films) are basically polyethylene so usable as fuel as well, just slightly more polluting as a thicker heavier fuel is created. But additional processing can turn even HDPE into a clean diesel.

JBI Solution for 200 Billion Pounds of Plastics
EVERYONE Wants A Solution to This Problem. JBI is the one.
We produce well over 200 billion pounds of plastic each year. This is a well-documented environmental issue of grim proportions; plastic is literally trashing our planet
Jun 12, 2013
The Truth Shall Set You Free
We produce well over 200 billion pounds of plastic each year. This is a well-documented environmental issue of grim proportions; plastic is literally trashing our planet. Brands, manufactures and consumers are fully aware and the search for solutions is in full swing. Fortunately, our awareness has spurred incredible technological advances to address this problem, some better than others.
As a brand, being environmentally accountable is a trait that serves well in the marketplace. It’s a hallmark that projects the greater good. But in a Cass Sunstein meets George Orwell world, where the FTC, EPA, FDA, IRS, (insert acronym), are watching your every move and new terms such as Extended Producer Responsibility emerge, it can be paralyzing to make that technological decision. You want to choose something that is justifiable, reliable and proven.
In a small microcosm of the larger issue, we catch a glimpse of the efforts and problems we face. In a recent article Coffee Makers wrestling with recyclability of single-serve pods, TerraCycle is boasting about recovering 25 million coffee capsules over the last couple years, but has essentially found no use for them. Are we to understand that companies are paying TerraCycle to collect and store these things in some warehouse? Add to this, according to the article, 41 million adults drink a coffee made in a single-cup brewer every day. So in a two year effort, TerraCycle could not recover a single days’ worth of coffee capsules? Clearly, the Customary Disposal Method for this application is the garbage, in other words, the Landfill. Let’s not jump on a bandwagon for the sake of waiving a green flag, the overall effect is useless.
Here’s one, California is now floating a new Bill to put the burden on companies to find solutions for plastic waste in our waterways. The same State that bans the claim of biodegradable materials (and has sued companies legitimately making those claims), is now requiring brands and manufacturers to seek out and implement biodegradable solutions?? Are they expecting producers to put their necks on the line in search for innovation? Good luck taking that bait!
Unfortunately, the principle concern of environmental safety is being contaminated with agendas that have not proven capable of long term sustainability. There is a tendency to gravitate towards colorful Green language instead of clear, black and white solutions. Today, we have the capability to address plastic pollution on an incredible scale, without contamination. Unfortunately, too many producers are paralyzed with uncertainty or are turning to the least point of resistance.
A perfect example is the less than bold stand that one of the largest producers of bottled water took, “Lightweighting”. Holy crap! That’s it? Reduce your costs and provide a rigid bag for a bottle? C’mon…the “commitment to minimizing the environmental impact” is lackluster., considering 50 billion plastic water bottles end up in U.S. landfills each year.
Here’s my humble opinion. Within a generation, we have witnessed the birth of the plastic EVERYTHING. We began filling-up our Landfills with EVERYTHING and noticed NOTHING was reprocessing back into nature. The raging river of plastic is pouring onto our planet and we place the majority of this material in Landfills. There is a biodegradation process in Landfills that is beaming with potential and we have the proven ability to produce, capture and harness one of the most inexpensive and cleanest energy resources and fundamentally address our plastic pollution problem.
Recycling is an industry I support, but the numbers don’t lie and the goal is not to prop-up one particular industry, it’s to clean our planet. We need to stop kidding ourselves and start dealing with reality. I also understand Sourcing from renewable resources, but harvesting Corn for plastic in order to claim “Compostable” is absolutely wrong. I’ve lived in many places over the years and I have yet to find my local Industrial Composting facility. But if I did, I would respectfully not bring them my plastic waste. Let’s face it, you can claim it, but it’s not going there and where it is going, this technology does nothing. For those adding metal into the equation, this technology is borderline criminal. That probably explains the parasitic tendencies of this technology in underdeveloped countries. Both of these technologies have an adverse effect on our Food Source/Supply, which alone is highly irresponsible.
When making the decision on how to be accountable for your Plastic Footprint, know what is out there, get the full story and get the proof that it performs as claimed. If you stand in the light of truth, you will be safe. 70% is greater than 30%, 2+2=4, what’s right is right.

Heddle Saves JBI 2.1 Million! Brilliant Move!
NIAGARA FALLS, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 08/26/13 -- JBI, Inc. (the "Company" or "JBI") (OTCQB:JBII), a clean energy company that recycles waste plastic into liquid fuels, today announced continued actions to help significantly reduce costs as part of its ongoing goal to achieve cash flow positive results.
The Company plans to close operations at its recycling facility in Thorold, Ontario over the next several weeks, at which point all eight employees at the facility will be laid off. The Company's new executive team has decided to forego having a two stage plastic delivery process in favor of dealing with processor-ready plastics delivered directly to its fuel processing site in Niagara Falls, NY.
Based on operational data from the first six months of 2013, the Company estimates total annualized cost savings as a result of these measures to be approximately $800,000. In July, the Company announced additional cost reduction measures that it anticipated would result in annualized cost savings of approximately $1.3 million.
"Aggressively managing costs is a key component in positioning a company to eventually become cash flow positive. In keeping with the encouraging production data we've had to start the third quarter, these cuts were an important strategic move for us. We continue with the vision of procuring non-recycled streams of plastic that we can divert from landfill," stated JBI's Chief Executive Officer Richard Heddle.
JBI's Chief Financial Officer Nicholas Terranova stated, "We feel there is a great opportunity to reduce the cost of our fuel production, as a large portion of these costs have been associated with handling and preparing the plastic before it enters our processors in Niagara Falls. These measures are being taken to address these specific costs directly. Based on reviews of our cost of goods sold, we have realized that acquiring non-recycled, processor-ready plastic is the easiest way to continue having adequate feedstock at a desirable cost while streamlining our supply chain."
"A recent procurement partnership with a company that has been able to provide us with great plastic that is processor-ready makes us believe there is ample supply to be delivered directly to our site. Consistent delivery and consistent on-site fuel production make it simple and effective for us to manage procurement in this fashion, while making sure that we abide by all necessary guidelines in our permitting," stated company founder and Chief of Technology John Bordynuik.

Schoolchildren are now Supporting JBI From the mouth of babes… Parents from around the world have something to learn from their children now that CRAYOLA has launched their new COLORCYCLE PROGRAM. This program converts waste markers into clean energy through JBI. Children are now actively involved in helping turn waste into fuel. The future of our world is looking better!
EASTON, PA – August 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Crayola today launched its nationwide “COLORCYCLE” marker program, which transforms used markers directly into clean energy. The program is the latest innovation in the company’s continuing commitment to advance its sustainability efforts. The “COLORCYCLE” marker program will allow students to responsibly dispose of any type of used marker through an in-school collection process, keeping plastic out of landfills. Once the used markers are collected, a unique technology will convert the markers into usable fuel.

JBI processing wide-range of hydrocarbon-based waste into ASTM specification fuels.
The art of refining liquid hydrocarbons (crude oil) into diesel, gasoline, and fuel oils was commercially scaled decades ago. Unfortunately, refineries are technologically limited to accepting only a very narrow range of liquid hydrocarbons with very specific properties and minimal contaminates. Unrecyclable, hydrocarbon-based waste is a significant environmental problem increasing every year. According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2010 Facts and Figures report, over 92% of waste plastic is not recycled and with a growth rate of approximately 8% per year, there exists a critical need for a viable and environmentally sound, general purpose hydrocarbon-based recycling process. Hydrocarbon streams that fall outside of accepted refinery standards have traditionally been landfilled or melted into products of low value.
The barriers and challenges are so great that previous attempts to refine waste plastics into fuel resulted in unviable batch-based machines producing low-value, unstable mixed fuels. However, over the course of three years JBI, Inc. (“JBI”) has broken through these barriers and has designed and built a viable commercial-scale continuous refinery capable of processing a wide-range of hydrocarbon-based waste into ASTM specification fuels.
Research and testing of scale-up through 1-gallon, 3000 gallon, multi-kiln, and 40 ton/day processors took place in a plant in Niagara Falls, NY. Technical challenges encountered and lessons learned during process development will be explained in detail.
In 2009, our technology was “molecularly audited” by IsleChem, LLC (“IsleChem”) of Grand Island, NY and in 2012, the full-scale plant was viably validated by SAIC Energy, Environment & Infrastructure, LLC (“SAIC”). Numerous sources of waste plastic and users of the resulting fuel products conducted extensive audits of the technology, process, and plant. For the purpose of this paper, processing of waste plastics will be discussed in detail; however, this technology can be applied to other waste hydrocarbon-based materials such as contaminated monomers, waste oils, lubricants and other composite waste streams.

A Company that needs Crayola markers to work will hardly solve the world's Waste plastic problem!
