Lower spot prices in uranium shouldn't cause concern: industry specialist
Murray Lyons, The StarPhoenix
Published: Friday, August 24, 2007
Little should be read into a reported drop in uranium spot prices this week, one of Canada's best-known observers of commodity prices says.
Patricia Mohr, Scotiabank's vice-president of economics and a commodity market specialist, says the spot price is not that meaningful to producers of uranium yellowcake as traditionally, there has not been much of a spot market in the summer months for uranium.
"In the summer, the market really dies down and it does so because the utilities who are obviously the major buyers don't usually buy much over the summer," she said.
In the past two months, uranium prices on the spot market have tumbled from a peak of $136 US in mid-June to $90 earlier this week. As well, Mohr points out the U.S. Department of Energy has put out for bid a supply of UF6, a form of uranium that has been already been through the first stage of chemical processing.
"For the most part, the actual sellers are not mining companies," said Mohr, the author of the monthly Scotiabank Commodity Price Index. She points out that companies such as USEC, currently the only firm in the United States enriching uranium, sells uranium yellowcake from government inventories or from converted Russian nuclear weapons into the spot market.
Mohr says what's more important is what producers of uranium, such as Saskatoon-based Cameco Corp., charge utilities as a base price in long-term contracts. And that price has held steady at $95 US a pound recently, she points out.
"Contracts can range anywhere from delivery in a year's time to 15 years," she explained. "The contract prices are still at $95 US a pound. That is the base price.
"When a utility takes delivery, let's say, in two years time, about 20 to 40 per cent of the $95 is subject to escalation by an inflation indicator. The net effect is that the actual price is going to be higher than $95 on delivery."
In her report, Mohr notes the spot price of uranium is falling despite the fact it is now predicted uranium output from primary mines will come in globally at 112.1 million pounds of yellowcake in 2007, down from earlier estimates of 117 million pounds. Besides technical delays at mines in Africa, output is down at both Rabbit Lake and McClean Lake in Saskatchewan this year.
POTASH RISES
Meanwhile, the monthly Scotiabank index continues to track the incredible rise in overseas potash markets. In mid-July, the price for a Vancouver shipment was $202.50 US a tonne, a price that includes ocean freight.
By early October, it is expected Canpotex, the overseas selling agency for Saskatchewan potash, will sell potash into Malaysia and Indonesia at $330 US a tonne, a price already being achieved by Russian sellers.
"That, I am told, is just a spectacular level," Mohr said.
She says strong demand for biofuel around the world is causing palm oil producers in the two Asian countries to pour on the potash in addition to fuelling Brazilian sugar cane production for ethanol. The Scotiabank economist says she doesn't see potash prices hitting a plateau for the rest of the year.
"For sales into places like Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and Vietnam, you have various contracts kick in at various times of the year," she said. "So the average price at the Port of Vancouver is going to continue to climb for the balance of the year."
Pay Day claims evaluation:
Monday January 29, 9:30 am ET
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Russell Industries, Inc. (RSDS.PK) reports the following update regarding its proven and probable reserves. When extrapolating the preliminary report from Edge Consulting in December 2006 and information obtained by the Atomic Energy Commission dating back to February and June 1955 the geo-statistical estimation of reserves with underground mining, estimated reserves from the Russell Industries 54 claim group would be 2 - 20 million pounds of Uranium (U308) with an average grade of .27% and a cutoff of .10. An additional benefit of this area is the high content of Vanadium within the ore. Based on historical records, shipping records and samples, the average Vanadium content is 2 - 3%.
The current market price for Uranium is $71.00 per pound and $20.00 for Vanadium. The extrapolation of these parameters indicates the range of ore in the claims to have a value range in excess of $38,340,000. The Company is being encouraged to further testing which will require costly extensive mining, sampling and testing. "We are encouraged with the preliminary reports and will evaluate our options over the next 90 days," Rick Berman, President.
Clinton Stumps With Celebs in Vineyard
Aug 26 12:45 AM US/Eastern
By DENISE LAVOIE
Associated Press Writer

OAKS BLUFF, Mass. (AP) - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton returned to her favorite family vacation spot Saturday to raise money for her presidential campaign at a celebrity-studded event where she took some pointed swipes at President Bush.
Clinton—accompanied by her husband and their daughter Chelsea—smiled broadly and swayed to the music as singer Carly Simon and her two children, Ben and Sally Taylor, sang "Devoted to You" for a Martha's Vineyard crowd of more than 2,000.
Simon, along with actors Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, showered the Clintons with praise and predicted the senator from New York will be elected as the nation's first woman president.
"Is it Mrs. President or Madam President?" Simon asked a smiling Clinton.
The Clintons frequently vacationed on Martha's Vineyard during their years in the White House. The senator told the crowd that the family has been vacationing in the island for 14 years.
Bill Clinton told the crowd his wife would make the strongest president among those seeking to succeed Bush in January 2009 because she has the best plans to deal with national security, climate change, health care and education.
"If we were not married and Hillary asked me to do this, to be here tonight, I would be here," the former president said.
In her speech, the New York senator blasted the Bush administration on everything from failure to address problems with global warming to education and the economy.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the economy doing freaking awesome right now? I know there are some sub-prime worries, but this economy of ours is one of the best in the history of this country. How come statements like these go unchallenged? Also shows how far in the sand the heads of the democrats are if they can't see with their own eyes the prosperity of the average working man, including me, in this economy! - faz
She aimed her sharpest remarks at what she described as the Bush administration's "indifference and incompetence" in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.
"It is a national disgrace," said Clinton who is traveling to New Orleans this week to mark the second anniversary of the disaster. "What happened because of Katrina was a turning point in our country."
Clinton also sharply criticized Bush for his handling of the Iraq war, repeating her call for the U.S. to begin withdrawing its troops from the country.
"I believe that if he does not extricate us from Iraq by the time he leaves office, that when I am president I will," she said. "I want to be a president who gets back to setting big goals for our country."
The $50-per-ticket event was expected to raise more than $100,000 for the campaign.
Dak,
Yeppers, got that for the A/S increase to 10 billion. I was thinking more along the lines of the O/S. We saw a lot of volume on Thursday and I am wondering how much of that was angry investors dumping their positions or if any of it was Berman or whoever has a piece of the 2+ billion that has been added to the O/S.
-faz
Dak,
sorted. I will be calling the TA on Monday to confirm and will update the iboxes accordingly.
-faz
Makes,
But the volume since August 16 does not support that these were free shares dumped onto the market. I just do not see how they could be free trading shares. Please let me know if I am wrong as this is the first time I have dealt with something like this.

Cheers ONEBGG!!
A little humor to lighten the air. Might be a good look at the board room over at TRSI/RSDS/AUMN:

Lets wait and see what happens.

Maybe we could lease out our rig once when we are not using it
-faz
Nice catch. I was wondering if anyone would get around to that. I have had an email out to the company since you turned me onto analyzing the pictures from last night, however, I have yet to receive a response. I hopefully will be able to get some more info on the rig type and specs.
I will let you know what I find.

Good movement today. I am kicking myself for not loading the boat in the 2.60's
I still think this is way undervalued.
-faz
Can people even leave if they wanted to? I put two test sells in at the bid at the beginning of the day and still no takers. They are two different sizes of bids.
Wish they would put out a PR on the Big Lou wins. That seems to be long overdue. I also saw a link regarding a new website for Big Lou. Any idea the URL?
-faz
Thanks,
I usually put the link on my posts, just left it off.
Thanks for the welcome to the board. I am not sure I am Republican these days with the way they are behaving, but I think it is a whole lot closer to my conservative values than the Dems. Scary to think what will happen if they get the nod next November.
Cheers,

All kidding aside, why is he selling anyway? Why not hold to see this hit the 5's or even 6? Are you concerned this is going further south?
Yep, and I am buying at the 3's, maybe you could ask him to sell me some there.

Awesome. I just put my buy order in for 100 million @ .0003. Let's get this party started, I could use the cheap shares.

HILL: TERROR WOULD BE GOP BOOST
By GEOFF EARLE
August 24, 2007 -- WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday raised the prospect of a terror attack before next year's election, warning that it could boost the GOP's efforts to hold on to the White House.
Discussing the possibility of a new nightmare assault while campaigning in New Hampshire, Clinton also insisted she is the Democratic candidate best equipped to deal with it.
"It's a horrible prospect to ask yourself, 'What if? What if?' But if certain things happen between now and the election, particularly with respect to terrorism, that will automatically give the Republicans an advantage again, no matter how badly they have mishandled it, no matter how much more dangerous they have made the world," Clinton told supporters in Concord.
"So I think I'm the best of the Democrats to deal with that," she added.
The former first lady made the surprising comments as she explained to supporters that she has beaten back the GOP's negative attacks for years, and is ready to do so again.
- Isn't this an admission that the Republicans are more tough than Democrats on terror? This should raise a lot of red flags and the GOP should jump on this statement. Hillary is outright saying that the public would rather want the Republicans in office if we are dealing with terrorism and not the Democrats.
Must be that she finally gets that Democrats have a spaghetti spine when it comes with dealing with international terrorism. Their philosophy of everyone is equal and let's treat everyone nice is a load of horse bleep!

Russell Industries Begins Drilling
HOUSTON, Aug 20, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Russell Industries, Inc. (Pink Sheets:RSDS) announces that it has purchased drilling equipment and has begun drilling as per its permit that was approved by Bureau of Land Management in July. The Company received approval for its Plan of Operations for uranium exploration on its Cache Claims in San Juan County, Utah. The permit was approved by the Division of Oil, Gas and Mining for the State of Utah and allows for 33 holes, one wet and 32 dry to be drilled. "The purchase of this equipment is a major step for a development company like Russell Industries. We will now have the ability to validate the proven and probable reserves of this claim area and our other claim areas as permits are approved. We will then evaluate our options regarding strategic use of these assets," said Rick Berman, President and CEO of Russell Industries.
Pictures from the drilling sites (courtesy of http://www.ru308.com)
Click on the images to view full size.
#1-No license plates on any of the vehicles, at least not visible, but the two rigs have close up shots of the back ends and i see no license plates, did they remove them? or just tow the rigs in?
- Pictures are not detailed enough to know if plates are not on the back ends. The drilling rig could be covering one up and the other could just be too dirty to see. Hell, they could have photoshopped them out. So what.
#2- Only 8 lengths of drill pipe visible in the pictures, should there not be a little more drilling pipe than 8 lengths?
- Who knows how much pipe is in the hole. Also, you could have a closer look:
#3- The file of the picture of the rage claim stake for claim #two, the file is saved as Rage%20Claims%20074.jpg, so if the stake was a mistake, then whoever saved the picture a jpeg, named the file accordingly or intentionally.
- Not sure. This is the most suspect one.
#4-I am not seeing a large compressor the likes of what may be required for RAC Drilling of this magnitude in my opinion, john pointed this out and got me looking. Not seeing the collection hopper either. Mind you these pics are not up real close.
- Might be RAB drilling:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=22225016
#5- The drill rig has some trucking company name on the door hard to make out. Is this rig on a flat deck and transported by some trucking company, cuz mercy me if i sold a truck to rsds would I not remove my companies info?
-No idea...maybe they need to do another 504 to buy some spray paint!
#6-No gvw numbers on the water truck passenger side, in fact no information on the water truck at all, looks painted over. And aain no license plate. Now this is out on a limb here, but if it is a roadworthy water truck is it not supposed to have clearly marked gvw and tare information for DOT, and a license plate? I have never seen a water truck without weigh scale data for cops and DOT guys to see, on both sides of the truck!
- There is info on the rig truck, but not on the water truck. Maybe they don't need that stuff for a truck that is going to be kicking around just the claim sites. Could be like a truck that is used on a farm. Not sure about this. Good catch.
I agree. And the highlighted section of your post could not be more true:
"this was for seeable, and it is very sad. people get executed in muslim countries for changing their religion from islam to something else. this is why our country has been founded on the belief of freedom from religion. only ignorant people fight over religion"
This is precisely what the constitution outlines: Freedom from a state sponsored religion and freedom to practice whatever religion that we want.

Haditha Massacre: Media and Terrorist Hoax?
By Sher Zieve | August 16, 2007
As charges against U.S. Marines - regarding an apparent fabrication of the “Haditha massacre” - continue to be proved false and based upon unsubstantiated “evidence,” only some of the leftist media appear to be standing by their original spin on the story. This media’s bent was based upon their proposition that the Islamist terrorists were telling the truth that the accused Marines were guilty of murder. Of note is that this twisted account was picked up by leftist members of the U.S. Congress - including former Marine and House Rep. Jack Murtha (D-PA) - who helped their media spread the poison. Based upon no evidence at all, Murtha said that the accused Marines had “killed innocent civilians in cold blood” and “I know there was a cover-up someplace!”
Neither of these ill-advised statements has proven to be true. In fact, they have been confirmed to have been bogus. But, it didn’t matter as the “we hate the U.S. Military and will say anything we want about it” crowd was in fine form and - with no evidence whatsoever - had already begun its renewed campaign against U.S. soldiers. This same group also strongly implied these soldiers were murderers; a charge that has now shown to be both unwarranted and patently false.
Note: To large portions of the worldwide media and a growing radical leftist faction within the United States Congress, the U.S. Military can do nothing right and the terrorists can do no wrong.
The AP reports that one of the hearing officers, Lt. Col. Paul Ware, “said murder charges brought against Sharratt were based on unreliable witness accounts, poor forensic evidence and questionable legal theories.” In an 18-page report, Ware wrote: “The government version is unsupported by independent evidence. To believe the government version of facts is to disregard clear and convincing evidence to the contrary.”
Charges against the Marines are in the process of being dropped. However, to date there has not been even a hint of a slight apology from those who blatantly and unconscionably accused these Marines of murder - including accusatory members of the Democrat-run U.S. Congress. Instead, against even one of their own liberal think tanks - the Brookings Institution with its NY Times article “A War We Just Might Win” - Democrat leaders (specifically Sen. Harry Reid D-NV) have not rescinded their statements that the U.S. has “already lost the war.”
Note: Even in the face of overwhelming facts to the contrary, leftists refuse to back off from their talking points. And, even elected Democrat officials refuse to apologize to those soldiers who fight and die to protect these same officials and their right to vilify them. These are revolting behaviors from those electees who should know better.
So, the liberal/leftist press, with very few exceptions, is not even bothering to report on the discovery that the Marines were, indeed, wrongly accused. After all, in the minds of the liberal media, the wrong side has been exonerated! Of those pieces that are being written of the vindications, they are short and included in the back sections of most publications. Whereas, when the fake “massacre” reports were initially carried by these same publications they were included on the front page. This is the prime example of ‘absolute power - this time of the press - tending to corrupt absolutely’. While our courageous troops protect even these corrupted individuals, the same corruptees hide behind one another while continuing to malign, denigrate and degrade their protectors. This is not only the mark of childish bullying behavior but, the essence of weak-mindedness. This is what liberalism and the tenets of the Left breed; dishonor, cowardice and abject stupidity. But, the honor and intelligence of our fighting men and women will prevail. However, sadly and apparently permanently, so will the contradictory pillars of the Left continue to exist.
Then again, without the presence of evil, how would the rest of us recognize good?
Finally, some come sense is coming to our land.
AG: Cops must ask suspects for immigration status
by Rick Hepp and Claire Heininger
Wednesday August 22, 2007, 8:49 PM
Attorney General Anne Milgram today ordered all local police officers in New Jersey to inquire about the immigration status of suspects charged with serious crimes, and to notify federal immigration authorities if there is reason to believe the suspect is in the country illegally.
The requirements, which go into effect immediately, apply to suspects arrested for specific indictable offenses and for driving while intoxicated, Milgram said. If the suspect is unable to prove he or she is legally in the United States, the police officer is required to notify Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, she said. The policy also specifies that prosecutors and courts be notified.
Local officers cannot inquire about the immigration status of crime victims, witnesses to crimes or persons requesting police assistance, she said.
"The overriding mission of law enforcement officers in this state is to enforce the state's criminal laws and to protect the community that they serve," Milgram said. "This requires the cooperation of, and positive relationships with, all members of the community. Public safety suffers if individuals believe they cannot come forward to report a crime or cooperate with law enforcement."
The 7-page directive also sets guidelines for municipalities that apply to federal immigration officials for Section 287(g) authority, which deputizes local, county and state officers to enforce federal immigration laws. While the directive grants the full exercise of federal immigration authority at county jails and state prisons for incarcerated undocumented immigrants, Milgram said, street cops participating in 287(g) could invoke federal immigration authority only after an arrest is made.
Morristown's application for 287(g) authority, the first in the state, has generated heated debate in the Morris County community. One other New Jersey municipality has inquired about the program, according to ICE officials, who would not identify the town.
Milgram's announcement came amid questions about how Jose Carranza, an illegal immigrant from Peru who is a chief suspect in the Newark schoolyard killings, was released on bail earlier this year after being charged with child rape. Authorities are still determining whether a second suspect in the killings, Melvin Jovel, 18, was also in the country illegally.
The case has drawn national attention from those who decry illegal immigration, including Rep.Tom Tancredo of Colorado. The Republican presidential candidate visited Newark Monday and said local officials were complicit in the murders for refusing to deny government services to undocumented immigrants.
In Newark and other cities with large immigrant populations, officials note that detectives investigating robberies, rapes and murders already are struggling to develop informants among a population fearful of the police. Adopting the role of immigration cops would make that job even tougher and allow criminals to go free and commit even more crime, they have said.
"I do not want to create a chill in my community where people are afraid to come forward to police and report crimes," Newark Mayor Cory Booker said last week. "Undocumented immigrants and immigrants within our city are an important part of our fabric. And my police department, it is not their role or responsibility."
About one in five of New Jersey's 8.7 million residents was born in other countries, according to U.S. Census figures. The state is also home to an estimated 450,000 illegal immigrants.

Have you seen the claims for Trophy yet? I still have not seen the claims from the BLM in utah and based on the PR, I believe they are close to the Rage claims, but further southeast. I don't think that TRSI and RSDS/AUMN own the same claims, but they very well could have a vested interest in developing them for both uranium and O&G.
If you have learned the names of the claims TRSi picked, please let me know.
